Pa. measles outbreak spreads as health officials urge vaccinations ahead of school year

Measles continues to spread in Lancaster County and surrounding communities in Pennsylvania, causing officials to sound the alarm ahead of back-to-school season. They're asking residents to look out for their neighbors. The latest data from the state shows 226 measles cases in Pennsylvania this year, and most of them are in Lancaster County. The spread broadened in the last week, with cases now reported in Lehigh and Bedford counties. Dr. Jeffrey Martin is chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Lancaster General Health. I do worry that as we approach the school season in later August, early September, that we are going to see more pediatric and children's cases of measles. Lancaster County Commissioner Alice Yoder wants residents to get vaccinated. I mean, it's the number one thing we can do to protect ourselves and our neighbors and family members to contain the outbreak. In Lancaster, I'm Haley O'Brien. WITF News.
