Congressman Scott Perry Joins The Show

One of our favorites, Congressman Scott Perry from the Central Pennsylvania, Harrisburg area, I guess. has vast military experience in addition to his time in Congress and is one of the most targeted by the other side, his opponent, same person that ran the last time media figure, may or may not even live in the area. You know the drill with that. Wanted to get him on, though, for an update on what he's doing. And we see that, wow. There was a momentary loss of separation between Marine 1 and a plane coming in from California on Tuesday. Wow. What the heck goes on with that airport in Washington? Bad stuff. Just seeing that on Fox. Let's go to Congressman Scott Perry. Hey, Congressman, this story just happened here. And this is with the President of the United States. How much talk is there in Congress with reform? Remember the horrific accident we had, and yet we still have this problem. Yeah, hey, great to be with you, Dom. There's a lot of talk. We, you know, and the taxpayers have funded a lot of the new upgrades that are coming onto the air traffic control system. Most people... don't know this, but if you did some flying, and I mean other than, you know, if you did the flying yourself, or if you're in the front seat, you would know that the system that we have is very archaic. We're using things from, you know, literally 60, 80 years ago. They're still in the system and we still use them to navigate some and so forth. So it's been the FAA is unfortunately one of those agencies that been around for a while, but has a hard time because of the bureaucracy implementing the changes that's needed to modernize our air traffic control system. And, of course, the D.C. metro area is pretty busy. You've got obviously Reagan there. You've got Dullet and you've got all the low-flying traffic. You know, people don't realize that that low-level route right up the Potomac there, I used to fly it. The maximum altitude is 100 feet. 100 feet, wow. 100 feet maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum maximum altitude, yep. Well, I remember, too, when this came up before with the horrific accident, there was a sense that too many generals and the like were taking helicopters, you know, in the mixed traffic there, rather than driving a car. It might save a half hour here and there. But maybe it's kind of over. I mean, this is the president, and I just see it announced now, they are looking into doing an investigation of what happened.

Well, anytime there's a near miss, but certainly the president, because the other thing that happens when the president's flying is a TFR, a temporary flight restriction. And so no one can be in the area for that period of time. And it sounds like somebody violated the TFR or the TFR wasn't issued. And either way, you know, somebody's head has to go to roll there because it's just too dangerous. Yeah, absolutely. We're talking with Congressman Scott Perry. So in your race, if you had a catalog, what is the issue at this point? I don't know that your opponent is going to embrace what's happening in Michigan, but if she were elected, she'd be an enabler of it. She's certainly not saying anything against it. Well, yeah, if you're not going to say anything about what's happening in Michigan, believe it or not, it's happening in Pennsylvania. The gentleman that's going to take a seat in Congress down in Philadelphia has disavowed the founding documents. It's happening a lot of places across the country, Chicago, et cetera, where people that are going to be elected to office, they're going to take the oath. And I imagine they're going to. They're going to swear to uphold and defend the Constitution, but I think it's going to be perfunctory. And you're either, you know, to me, either say that's a problem or you, you know, silence is acceptance. And so, you know, the whole party, I mean, if you watch the morning shows a week and a half ago, the vice chair of the party said that, you know, they're going to open the borders. They are going to confiscate. private property. They're going to, you know, close the prisons, all those kind of things. That's their platform. And even though every candidate that's running across the country for these positions in that party might not be for those things particularly, they're not going to be the ones running the show. The people that are for those things are going to be the ones running the show. That's where the energy is. That's where everybody is afraid of all this stuff. Your sense, given the military background and given your contacts there, we heard that the situation in Iran, we may have another memo, another ceasefire. You probably know, I'm not sure your constituents. I know our listeners, though, are pretty upset that we keep on going back and forth with them. How about you, as this come up during the campaign? Well, I think what it is is that most people just want it to be over, right? We have a short attention span in the United States, and we don't put up with this stuff for long. And we know also that this president has not, you know, he's shied away from these kind of things. They have military conflicts over the course of his time as the president. So people are fed up with it. And of course, they're fed up with some of the results of it, which is. You know, one thing is the worldwide market for fuel and gasoline in particular.

in prices to levels that we certainly don't appreciate. So, as I said, the problem is, is that what we're dealing with is an ideological theological death code that's, what, 14, 1,500 years old, they're not going to change because President Trump wants them to. And obviously, when you marry that ideology with the prospect of nuclear war, and you... you know have a country that wants to deliver it by ballistic missile that makes it that's a very dangerous cocktail and it's difficult because these these people though you know it's it's in their doctrine it's in their culture um they're allowed to they're allowed to misleave you and so that's that you know they say one thing and oftentimes do another Well, I hear the dilemma that we're in, and I saw the other day, Congressman, that the Pentagon publicly asking enlisted men and others for creative solutions. What is your sense inside Washington? I mean, what do people think the solution is to keep the straight open and to move on? Is there one? I don't know. I agree with you completely. They can't have a nuclear weapon. It is a death cult. I don't know what the lever is over them, though, that will get them to admit to that and to stop to cease and desist on this. Well, I don't know that anything is going to stop them from. from exercising that belief. That's what they all grew up believing. That's what they were taught. That's their culture. And, you know, we can get into that. But I think in the interim, the answer really is to do it as necessary to make sure that the straits remain open so that global commerce, including the free flow of oil at market prices, can return. And then there's going to be a longer lasting solution for... the country formerly known as Persia, that's going to involve partners not only in the Middle East, but partners in Europe. And maybe even, let's fit it in the Far East, because China gets a lot of oil from there, and they have taken this thing, and they have been conspicuously silent on a solution. Absolutely. To help your campaign, which is vital, what do people do, particularly that we all know people in your district, maybe tons of them that can vote. What do we do? Well, certainly you can be heard. That's the biggest thing as Americans. We have what other countries don't have is which is a voice and an opinion that we're allowed to express. And so when you know that they're saying things that are marginally true or patently false, You can certainly contribute and you can tell your friends and make sure you go vote at a minimum and ask your friends in the district to go vote and certainly volunteer. You know, we're on the streets and we have different events where people can learn about what's happening in the district and in their country. And all those things add up to, you know, a victory that is going to be desperately needed when...

We've got folks like the gentleman who just won the primary last night, potentially are going to be serving and making decisions on behalf of the United States of America. Absolutely. In the beginning, he actually flew along that route. They should open and investigate. How is it that the president's plane, a helicopter, could have been in danger there? That's the story just breaking. Of course, that fundraiser at his California club, they arrested a guy with hollow point bullets and all kinds of weapons and somebody who allegedly had been casing that club for quite a while. On and on and on it goes. They are not going to stop. when it comes to President Trump. These things are a real threat. The other, the incompetency in Washington after that horrific accident, it's pretty apparent from this. All right. Coming up, DJ was all over this story yesterday. Henry, you cut it. We'll play it after the break. It's an argument at Joey Tomatoes in Point Pleasant in New Jersey. And the rub of it is... They come there and they're holding a kid's birthday party, and it's not Chucky Cheese, right? It's just a pizza place. Correct. Yeah. And they may have spent a fair amount of, I'm not condoning the owner going nuts here. But do you do a kid's party and then ask them at a pizza place for a knife to be cutting the cake and all there. You go to a restaurant and all. They'll do it for you. You know, they'll either cut it or they'll bring you a knife, depending on, I don't know any restaurant that, but something about just a pizza place and you're there, et cetera. You watch this. Do you side with them or the owner? I side with them. How come? What's the difference in a pizza place and some restaurant? You're acting like there's huge differences. Yeah, it's something that I think you really have to. Tell them in advance you're coming there doing a kids party. Yeah. And then asking them with the cake is a little bit different. Yeah, I think it is. You've got to realize that the owner might be quirky and doesn't want a kid's birthday party there during it. So they shouldn't have approved it then. Well, I don't know who approved it. Oh, that's a little bit. So what? It says in the description. Yeah. We'll play the owner. overreacting with this rather than dealing with them at the restaurant. And something about it, the guy that does this does it for a living. He kind of chronicles Jersey. So this has gotten, it's one of those incidents that have gotten unbelievable. And usually I side, you know, with people with the kid and everybody says the kid is a brat and they're not in these restaurants. We'll play you a little bit of that. And the side question, something big. I haven't heard anything huge from the 80s yet, really. Think about it. That whole decade, MTV, 45 years ago, you heard Perry 2 on the Democrat nominee in Michigan. This guy is the juice is not Medicare for all and all the rest of it. It's gone after Trump and it's gone after Israel. This guy would refuse even to sell.

Patriot missile systems to protect Israel's civilians. Right there, that tells you what this guy is. This is an anti-Semite. This Muslim movement in Michigan, to me, is suspect around all this stuff. And that's what he's running on. That's what they're running on in these places. That's what gets people fired up, not corporate corruption or anything. That's what he's trying to tout. It's anti-Semitism. Scott Perry just mentioned Chris Rav. Mount Airy loves, even if they're Jewish, they apparently love anti-Semitism, anti-Israel, anti-Benjamin Netanyahu. Let the Israeli civilians die. I get the line about what's our role with Israel. How far do we go in providing for their defense and all that? But no Patriot missiles, even if they paid for them? That's what these people are running on. The media wants you to believe. They're running on. We're going against all these corporations and we're going against all this corruption. I'll give this DSA, Hater, Crazy, Al Zaid in Michigan. One praise moment today. He's just challenged his opponent, Mike Rogers, to five debates. Now, you know my thought on this. If that guy says five debates within 15 seconds, however long it takes to hit a button. I'm challenging him to two debates a day for the rest of the campaign. No bathroom breaks. Five-hour debates. I'm serious. Wow. Yeah, let's see, because I believe just in your will, and also if you can't break down this guy over that period of time, then you don't deserve to win. So I got to say this, if Mike Rogers doesn't jump on this by the end of the show and Henry or Kirk, you tell me you see it and say something like that, I've got to say, what kind of Republicans are we putting out there? The guy just said it. Well, I'm not sure the time. I know, no sudden mediate at the end of his tirade here. That's five debates. I'm hoping for an answer today. It's going to be a lot of fun. My guy. If I'm called my guy with this guy, oh, man. Where do we have it? Mike Rogers, who look, is a rhino, neocon, you know, we got to win at Michigan. If he can't say, you ought to jump into chance, we ought to be someone like Zohran Mamdani. I don't care how many debates he wants. Are they really emboldened? Now, I don't think Michigan's necessarily just a purple state. I think it really leans harder blue in certain areas at Dearborn Michigan, Muslim population and all that. But Trump did win it. If somebody challenges you to five debates in this, you've got to immediately come up with the counter of more. And what kind of rules are we going to agree on as far as what we're going to debate and what we're going to talk about?

The markets are soaring right now. I'll say this for what Trump has done with this. He's managed the markets well. He sent Scott Bessent out there the other night. The markets went wild yesterday and they're going wild again today on hopes of a deal with Iran. But I didn't get from Scott Perry because I don't think there is anything. What is the deal with them? What is it that would assure the world they can get through the Strait of Hormuz? The deal apparently is Iran wants ships going one way to be in certain lanes with them and then the other country coming out. but they will not charge a toll. Are we actually going to say after all this, well, we got them to say they're not going to put a toll on people going through the strait with Harmoos. The issue is, can we reassure people enough? And I'm tired. And I wonder if you are, too. Don't feel it's disloyal to anything. We want to win the midterms. I don't care about loyalty to Pete Hegseth, or this, that, or the other. It's about one thing. winning the midterms. You're not going to win the midterms if we're still engaged in this way in Iran. And I think they're very winnable. It's a home court advantage. Mike Rogers ought to be able to mop up the floor with this guy. Let me know. I'm serious. Let's see how quickly. I don't know what time exactly he said. I just saw it on media. Rogers ought to be saying, you don't need to, what kind of guy is this? You don't need to talk to your advisors. Mr. Machet, you're my advisor. What would you say? Oh, I don't know. Five debates with this guy. You know, that might be a lot. Maybe we should say three debates. No. And stipulates you want these debates to be lengthy where people can actually see what you really think about. All this. All right. So here is a little bit of Pizza Gate. And again, the owner is over the top on this. But I just thought this is kind of a weird situation. Now, if you worked in restaurant industry, it is customer. If you ask them that you have a cake, I don't remember a restaurant ever poo-pooing that. The owner doesn't feel, though, it's appropriate for this business, which is pretty successful. Does she curse in his side? I don't know if she curse. Somebody curse. I think it. Maybe that's in the background. Okay. But it's gone viral. And you never know in these restaurant debates what the telling thing is. Often they don't end well for the restaurants or the pizzeria. almost all the time. Now, I was a coach for Little League, and after the season, we would have parties at a certain pizza place every year. I mean, and this place catered to it. If you were buying five pizzas or six pieces or ten pieces, they would cut the cake for you if you wanted them to. They even gave out little plates to put the cake on. That was smart business. So everybody went there whenever they wanted to have a party at a pizza place. Okay. I think this owner is a little short-sighted, and I still don't understand what the problem was. What's the problem with giving them something to cut their cake that they're celebrating at your pizza place? Yeah, I don't know if there's more tape of something else she said. That's all that we have. All I know is it is nuts. Well, she's the wrong guy, too. This guy chronicles. all these crazy things in Jersey. Oh, my God. That's who apparently at the birthday party. Hey, Robert, do you agree with me, though? This is Mike Rogers. This guy just challenged him to five debates. Shouldn't this guy be taking out ads? Here's what I'm proposing. I don't get it.

Absolutely. Dom, I know that I said that the Senate would be 54 or 55 Republican after the midterm. Now it's 55. If the Democrats had chosen the so-called establishment candidate, whatever that means, they probably would have eaked out of victory in that race for the Senate in Michigan. But now it's completely up in the air. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot. And the beautiful, Tom, for years. We have been saying that the Democrats are like socialist light or they're going towards socialism or communism. And millions of people in the middle say, no, they can't be going socialist. They can't be going communist. I can't still vote for them. I think that's going out the window now. If they're going to draw these lines in the sand of socialism, I think a lot of moderates, many of whom will lean left, are going to say, I can't vote for this and they'll either not show up. or maybe even go for Republican. So I think that Republicans are going to wind up with 55 sheets now because of this. Yeah, it just offends me. What kind of Republicans? You know, I don't want to be associated with a guy that just doesn't say, let's debate right now this morning. I'll come over to where you are, right? Right now, let's do it. Let's do it right here in the street. You would have been standing out in front of this house with a podium, Doc. And no suit on, some kind of outfit that says this wore a helmet and you take it off as you're coming there. Well, you saw how effective the Democrats were at getting their minions to hate Trump based on lies and smears. Here we have a chance to do that to Democrats with the truth. They are now telling you they're extreme. And I think that's going to drive a lot of moderates over to our side or get them to stay home. My other point is you would strike a blow across the country. We have a dyed in the wool anti-Semites. We have, we've invited Chris Rab to come on the show. Robert Henry's been diligent in this. It's only from over in Mount Air. We'll give him an hour. They can tape my mouth for the first five minutes. He's not going to do it. Well, a lot of this is being discussed in the chat room, and I'm hearing a lot of good points from people who are saying the Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot on this. And while I might be glad for that as a Republican, I'm sorry about that as an American, because we need two sane parties in this country. Exactly. I'll go right to my side answer, and I'm very biased on this, Dom, because there's a lot of great answers again in the chat room, and I'm sure on Twitter. But I'm going to go with the F-15 Eagle. It came out in the 70s, but it was named the most dominant plane in the air in the 80s. It ruled the skies in the 90s. It's still in service today. It could gain speed while going straight up. It could target seven different targets simultaneously within 15 miles of the plane. Well, wait a minute. How do you simultaneously? Yeah, the head-up display, yeah, the head-up display was able to target multiple targets, and it had six missiles, and it had a 30-millimeter explosive shell cannon up front, I'm sorry, 20-millimeter, and it could take out them planes before them planes were in range to do anything to the F-15.

That's why it was never shot down by an adversary. We just lost three in the last year. Two of them were shot down by Kuwait by accident, and one, they were able to shoot down because Russia and China are testing their new munitions, giving them to Iran to see how effective they are against American assets. And I'm glad to see that our American assets are still reigning supreme. She is conducting a purge. in his military industrial complex because their munitions aren't doing what they told she they would do against the Americans. So it's getting real interesting. There's a fierce battle going on with highly educated and advanced parents, cardiologists, journalists, you know, all that stuff in which they won't give in only so much, even with younger kids. What is it that continues to fuel that when there's obvious your research and just gut instincts of really people that are engaged with this? This is not working particularly with young kids. Yeah, and I think it's it's the SpaceX problem, right? There's stories going around out there that tech feels good. It is the highlight story going on right now. AI must be powerful. Otherwise, why would people be spending trillions of dollars on it?

And I think that drives a lot of the people's who want to continue the tech and not actually start to really confront what's going on with it. So I think the narrative right now is beating the data. And so hopefully a book like this can help to push that narrative back. And I think take the next step further. I think there's a weird narrative going on that if you're not trained in tech, especially during the younger years, you're not going to be ready for the tech workforce going ahead. And believe it or not, the data, new data in the book shows, no, it's the complete opposite was between 2013 and 2023, the percentage of kids who are digitally literate, minimally digitally literate, has dropped about 11% across the U.S., even though the percentage of kids who are explicitly taught with digital tools at school has increased hundreds of percent in that same time. So it turns out that if you actually want to be digitally literate and ready for the workforce, Training on the digital tools themselves is irrelevant and actually harms your ability to think creatively. What you want to do is learn in an analog way and then bring that knowledge to the tool rather than trying to develop that knowledge through that tool. Does that kind of make sense? Yes, it does. I'm thinking about it even with sports. I have a thing. It reminds me of this with the overtraining of kids, stay on a single sport, starting when there's seven. versus play a lot of sports, and then when you arrive at the appropriate age, make a decision if you're going to specialize in a sport. What you just said there is exactly intuitive to me of how this should go about. You mentioned something, too, doctor, with the new data points, et cetera, you have in the book, another version of it out, about we look at these Asian countries, for example. And over a period of time, we see how regimented it could be. And I guess the technology blended with that, the argument is the big argument with AI, we're going to be way behind China. I've had people I really respect on the show, even friendly with me, tell me, well, AI's going to cure cancer. Why don't you see this? Why are you in the Luddite and things of that nature? Are you a Luddite? Are you accused of that? Oh gosh, I am a card-carrying Luddite. I will stamp that on my head. Because you got to remember, the Luddites weren't fighting against. technology. They used technology in their craft. They were fighting for a way of life, a community that they thought was better and healthier for them and their families in development. And to be fair, they were correct. They lost the battle, but the industrial revolution basically destroyed everything they were trying to protect. It's the same thing here. I'm a lot. I don't care about tech. I'm not pushing against tech. I'm just fighting for a form of learning and deep understanding and thinking about the world that I think is going to be more important. going forward than this very shallow, narrow answers-based society we're building right now with tech. So yes, I'm very much a Ludite because I believe in deep thinking and understanding. And I think what's funny is if you go to those East Asian countries,

Here's the joke that most people don't know. The least tech-using countries when it comes to education are Korea, Singapore, Japan, China, Hong Kong. They are like the most tech-heavy countries when it comes to their economics. But they do not use digital technology in the schools or at least they didn't up until about 2024. They started to bring it in more. And they're already seeing drops because of that. But isn't that funny that these countries that are super tech advanced have realized tech is for work. Tech is for employees. Tech is for experts to make their lives easier so they can create. Tech is not for novices. Tech is not for learning. Tech is not how you become an expert. And they figured it out long before we did. We're talking with Dr. Harvath, who has been with us before, the new release, new material in this book. Let's take a look at a couple of the things I think you mentioned that you really tried to because of some of the pushback on this. And that is low income. We hear, well, this is going to be the solution. Philadelphia just gives that Philadelphia Public Schools doctor just gives out these Chromebooks. And everybody's going to be using that at home. And I think what they found out, it's mostly game playing and things of that nature, rather than other activities, it might be better. Talk about that. Doesn't it help people that are more impoverished to gain? Yeah, so you're right. On average, 80% of all computer time is going to be gaming, multitasking, watching videos. It's not going to be learning. But that ratio gets higher, the lower your income. So it turns out higher income kids spend less time on computers fooling around, more time learning. It's kids from lower income houses who end up spending two to three hours more per day using these tools for non-academic purposes. So already it's a pure training issue. If I train three hours a day every single day more to use this tool one way, which is bad for learning, don't be surprised when I start to get worse and worse and worse at learning. And in fact, that's what we see is if you look at the gaps, the SES gaps in performance. Between about 1990 and 2012, things started to really shrink. And 2012 was about the best it ever was. Between 2012 and today... Oh, my goodness, the gap between the top 10% and the bottom 90% is larger than it had been since the 70s. I mean, the gaps have exploded. So tech, by and large, when did tech come in heavy right around 2012? So you see, this tool isn't a way of diminishing differences. It's a way of amplifying and the shining a light on them making those differences worse.

And I hate to get pedantic and boring, but I think there's a researcher named Neil Postman. He passed away a while ago, but he said the same thing about tech all along. He says... No tech in history has ever narrowed gaps because there will always be a difference between the haves and the have-nots. So even as something as simple as an air conditioner, we'll start to widen gaps simply because the rich can afford better versions of it and the poor either can't get it or get poor versions of it. So why would digital technology be any different? I know Postman, interviewed him, et cetera. Yeah, I agree with you. Yeah, yeah. So absolutely. He was brilliant. Yeah. Dr. Horvath, so what are the solutions to this? What are some of the metrics? What do you propose in the new edition of this book? I think at a district-wide level, it's time to do a significant tech audit. So basically, my recommendation is most school districts, draw a line in the sand, moratorium on tech, no new tech. Just make a guarantee no new tech for the next two years. We already have enough tech. Then you can spend the next year doing an audit on the tech programs you already have. What programs do you use? What subscriptions? What hardware are you using? And from that, you can start to glean what's working and what's not. And what you'll see is probably half of all the tech expenditure you're doing right now. No one's using it. You will have subscriptions that no kid has touched in years. You'll have an LMS platform that no one is using, but you're still paying for it. So once you do that audit, that's when you can weed out, what are we using, what are we not? Scrap what we're not using and save that money. And then you can run a cost-benefit analysis on what's left. Are there programs that are genuinely beneficial? Compare it back to learning. Are there programs that you're seeing no growth from? Are there programs that are harming? Compare that to the cost, and then you can decide what is the better way moving forward to spend our money. Most of the time, it's not going to be on tech. It's going to be on teacher training. It's going to be on physical manipulatives and textbooks for children. It's going to be on blue books and pencils again, which are far cheaper than iMacs and iPads. So believe it or not, I think you can save yourself a ton of money and see better results. If you just give yourself a year or two to do an audit, see what's actually working, what's not, and make decisions from there. Great stuff. Thank you for the addition and coming back on again. So there's that, and then there's the anti-Semitism that Israel can't even protect its own citizens. The DSA stuff, don't you want to debate a guy like this? Wouldn't you be aching? And he barely got across the finish line here. To do that, not only to win Michigan, but to expose this type of deal. So I got to say this strategy in the initial statement after the win of saying, yeah, let's have five debates. At least make them backpedal. Make him backpedal what that means, what the, you know, at least go after him on that. Or even better, show up and debate them right now.
