One of the big topics on the show today, as you know. They got elections this week. Hamilton County in Tennessee as well. Primary elections for some reason on a Thursday, which is kind of strange, but it's coming up. I know many of you have already voted because it was early voting. So let's talk more about that right now. Gail Green joining me on the show. She is the chairwoman of the Hamilton County Republican Party. Gail, thank you so much for coming on. Hey, thanks for having me. It's a big day in Hamilton County tomorrow. I hope every Republican listening is ready to show up. So yeah, I mean, some of the early voting numbers, pretty promising. More people showing up to vote early than in prior midterm elections, correct? Yeah, this election is one for the record book so far. I mean, the historic turnout is really exciting. I think that, you know, it's countering that narrative that, you know, the midterm, the party that's in power, it's always very, you know, it's a horrible turnout and things don't go well. And I think the candidates here in Hamilton County have been working hard. The party's been working hard and knocking on doors. And I think that's paid off. Okay, well, I was going to ask you, so you feel like there's good enough energy to get a pretty good turnout? Because there have been some primaries around the country where they've seen low turnout, especially on the Republican side. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I'm, you know, I can't I can't tell you for sure, but I think that if we if we look at the early turnout numbers and those numbers carry in to tomorrow and what's going to happen tomorrow, I think that we can feel really good about those. Obviously, you know. Hamilton County, we have the Republicans that we need to win here, but if they don't show up in the districts that we need them, there could be some disappointing races tomorrow. So my message is really just we need every Republican to show up and vote, period. Okay, I'm speaking with Gail Green. She is the chairwoman of the Alabama, or I'm sorry, not the Alabama. Excuse me, I do like three shows a day, I swear. The Hamilton County Republican Party. So, yeah, have you had a position on wanting to close primaries? That is something that has come up in the past. Well, I...
I do have a position. I absolutely think our primaries should be closed. I mean, when Democrats know that they can show up at the polls, pull a Republican ballot and help determine who is our nominee, then it significantly waters down our Republican candidates. And I just can't get on board with that. And I'm really hopeful that the... the legislature will take action next session and do something about it. And I'm really happy to hear Marsha Blackburn championing closed primaries. She started doing that publicly over the last week or so. So I'm excited to hear that. Yeah, I had that story earlier. You're exactly right. And I mean, there have been bills proposed in the past, but they never seem to quite make it through. But you think if Marsha Blackburn does become governor, whoever does, they're going to. be energetic and pushing that in the next session. I think we could count on Marcia and Moni for it. I don't know exactly where John Rose stands on closed primary, so I can't speak to that. Gotcha. You know, definitively. Gail Green is with the Hamilton County Republican Party talking about elections. The primary election is tomorrow. Obviously, people have been early voting as well. Anything else you want to share before I let you go? Well, I'd love to talk about a few of our candidates if you don't mind. We have, obviously, we have the mayor's race. We have Mayor Womp, who I'm excited to support and endorse over his opponent. I think he's shown us over the last four years that... He's willing and ready to work hard and to listen to his constituents. And I hope that Republicans will show up because the other option is not a good one. And we know what Democrats do when they take over a city. So I just, you know, I want to say we're excited about West and Wamp and the work he's done. He's really held, he's held our county taxes. steady for four years, which is a lot more than I can say for the Democratic leadership of the city of Chattanooga. We also have some really important school board races coming up. And specifically, I want to encourage people in District 8, that's the East Ridge area, to get out and vote for Sabrina Daniel. Her counterpart there, County Commission Mike Chauncey, he is also at for reelection. And we really want to keep our County Commission and our school board. a majority of Republicans because we know they're going to be more responsible with your tax dollars, and we know that they're going to put parents first. So if you care about the way that your tax dollars are being spent and the decisions that are being made in schools about your children, I just encourage you to show up and vote Republican and help keep the Republican majority in Hamilton County right now. And I want to encourage the people that listen to your last segment who are frustrated with the spending at the federal level in Donald Trump, I want to encourage those people to realize that they have a vote and a voice locally. And if they want to stop that kind of stuff from happening in Hamilton County, we need them to show up and vote tomorrow. Please show up. Thanks so much. All right. There you go. I appreciate it. It's a good message, honestly. You know, we're frustrated at spending in D.C. It really does affect us. But you have a vote. And there's also spending that has to be done on the local level. And we don't want to see too much spending of that because, I mean, the last thing we need is a property tax increase or something like that. No, I don't want to see that.
