20 segmentsWelcome back to you have you live. The U.S. soccer podcast. I'm your host, Megan Klingeberg. And after interviewing so many dudes during this men's World Cup, I'm so happy to be back with my U.S. women's national team players. I know the U.S. men's national team has changed how I think about myself, how I think about being an American, how I think about being on a team. It's one year out from that World Cup, and we're going to talk about the brightest prospects in U.S. soccer. You ready? I'm ready. Let's do it. The U.S. soccer podcast, presented by Henko. Follow and listen on your favorite. This is Talk Radio 102.3. By the way, I want to, well, first I want to thank Victoria Coates. Good analysis on the latest in Iran. Do you want to button up that topic a little bit here because I know President Trump talked about it yesterday. And today, here's a little bit of what he says. I wish you would just stop talking. You know, more explosions. That's what I want. But here's Trump. This is the last chance. This is not something that if it doesn't happen, this is a last chance for them to sign a good document. When we talk, we say we're talking. If we're not talking, when you ask me, no, we're not talking. I'll say it. But we are talking right now. We're talking. And we're talking at the request of Iran. I want to give them every last chance before decapitation. Very tough to do what we have. Planned. Still planned. We'll see what happens. One last chance. He says, Max, this is it. He superswears. Piki promises. According to the Wall Street Journal here, it says stock market today. Stocks have gone up. Oil slides after Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary. It says a raw deal may be near. So stocks are rallying amid strong earnings and comments by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that a deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could come today or tomorrow. So the Dow jumped 1,000 points, trading in record territory for the second straight day. Earnings are in focus as well. Apparently companies like Caterpillar are helping pull stock indexes higher overall. Oil majors Saudi Aramco and BP profited from higher oil prices. It's like one of the only benefits of higher oil prices is if you have stock in those companies, they do pretty well. It says crude prices resumed to their recent decline with Brent Futures, the international benchmark dropping 5%, so a little under $80 a barrel. It says before Scott Bessent's comments, investor confidence in Mideast negotiations had been tested by conflicting messages on the status of talks and a fresh attack in the straight. Now, in terms of what I think we should do next, I'll play this cut from former Vice President Mike Pence, because I tend to think he's right. Here it is. I have more confidence in President Trump than that. And I think the Iranians should be very wary in this moment.
Look, I strongly supported the president's decision to use military force last year and this year, striking around really for the first time in 47 years after they've waged a continuous war against the United States and the West all those years. But honestly, I think the president, after that first month where our military did a brilliant job taking down 13,000 military sites. I think the president has tried to create room for diplomacy. He's done that again over this weekend, even as we were marshalling military assets across the region. But I honestly think that the time has come for the President of the United States to unleash the armed forces of the United States, strike the remaining nuclear facilities in Iran, take down and degrade their ability to project force, not only in the strait, but across the region. Look, one does not make peace with one's enemy. One makes peace with one's defeated enemy. And given their posture and their attitudes and even denying that negotiations are happening, I have every confidence that there will come a moment where my old running mate has had enough, and we ought to turn loose, the greatest military in the world, too. I have to say I like that line. One doesn't make peace with an enemy. One makes peace with a defeated enemy. It's kind of what I've been saying. If we're going to negotiate, let's negotiate their terms of surrender. By the way, speaking of Mike Pence, you might remember when he was vice president, he was head of the coronavirus task force in the White House. And he talked about that a little bit because obviously Dr. Anthony Fauci's been in the news. He pled the fifth. Remember, not the fifth, but the fifth, I plead the fifth. Yeah, 111 times. I got the lines memorized. Yeah. But here's what Mike Pence said. I think early on, Dr. Anthony Fauci was a great source of comfort to millions of Americans. But as time went on. And when we had a temporary shutdown to make sure that we didn't run out of supplies and communities around the country, as governors were opening up states around the country, whether it's Georgia or Florida or Arizona or Texas, we saw Dr. Anthony Fauci shift. I think you pick up some of that, at least in what I've read about the diaries, that he continued to advocate for the lockdowns, that principally were driven by Democrat governors around the country. Yeah, I remember a lot of that. It wasn't just, unfortunately, it was some Republican governors as well. But he also talked about the lab leak theory, which he says Dr. Anthony Fauci continuously...
hit back at. He would not take it seriously. But, you know, what was most troubling to me was I lost count of the number of times in the situation room where I asked Dr. Anthony Fauci if it might be possible that this came from a lab leak in Wuhan. And he assured me over and over again, even with other virologists at the table, taking a different view that couldn't have come from a lab. Do you think he lied to you? I don't know what... the source of it was. I wrote about it my book about four years ago that I always suspected that it came from a lab. I'm troubled by the fact that we haven't, to this day, held China accountable for a virus that costs the lives of millions of people around the world. And so... So that really is something that isn't talked about enough, holding China accountable. Because whether it came from a lab or not... China covered up a lot of the spread in the beginning, and that cost a lot of lives. And China just gets away with it, I guess. So we'll talk about that and more coming up next here on the Effie Live. Mike Drop, hosted by former Navy CEO Mike Ridland. How would you characterize your prowess? I'd say my style is that I just kind of outwork everybody until I get there because I'm not a quitter. It's just you. It's yourself. Everything else is team-oriented. The motivation, it was a sort of anger at myself for being weak. That ends up being the driving factor. That anger, that pride, that ego, I think it's a muscle. It gets stronger. When you take that voice seriously, you start to change your life. Mike Drop, follow and listen on your favorite platform.
