I am your guest host on the Incredible Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Podcast Network Radio Show. I can't even tell you how stoked I am. My name is David Rutherford. I just, if you don't know who I am, let me give you a quick...

2:58

brief on who I am and why I'm sitting in this epic seat today the day after Christmas. Again, my name is David Rutherford. I'm a former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor. I'm also a world championship performance coach, won a World Series, helped the Boston Red Sox in 18 win a World Series. I also work with professional athletes and college. sports teams and athletes as a motivational performance coach. And the reason I'm here today is because my good friend Buck Sexton had the foresight, the courage, and the premonition that when the venerable Sean Parnell left their podcast, the Clay and Buck Podcast Network and his epic show called Battleground, he left to go work with Pete Hegseth. thought it might be an interesting idea to give this old frog man a shot underneath their network. And that happened back in April. I launched my first show on the David Rutherford show. You can listen on all podcast platforms on the IHeart app, on Apple iTunes, on Spotify. I release a show every Monday and Wednesday. I talk about everything you can think of. I talk about political science. I talk about geopolitics. I talk about the military. I talk about veterans issues. I talk about sports. I talk about performance. You name it. I talk about it on the David Rutherford show. And so when they reached out a few months ago, He said, all right, Rutt. Here's, and by the way, my friends call me Rutt. So when you call in later, make sure you call in and say, what's up, Rutt? When they asked me about four or five months ago, they reached out, we're like, all right, Rutt, we want you to guest host the show over the holidays. I was like, out. Absolutely fired up. I'm all over that. I got that. They're like, well, slow your roll there, Skippy. We're going to have to give a little test run, which I was able to do back in November. I was able to guest host the Mandy Munoz show on 610 WIOD News Radio down here in southeast Florida. And I had two days of that, and I think I passed. And so they're giving me a shot today. And so today, I want to mostly entertain you. I want to. make you feel good about your fat stomach over the holidays, your hungoverness today, and basically just have some fun on the radio with all of you, all across the nation. You know, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and just God bless to everybody, even the nod-committal people who say, happy holidays to everybody. And that's the other thing, man. Just own up, man. If your faith believes in one thing, just say happy Hanukkah. So I go into the mall at town center.

5:51

right, up in Boca Raton, and I walk in, and every person at every store is like, happy holidays. Happy holidays. I'm like, hey, man, just, it's cool. If you're Jewish, tell me happy Hanukkah. I'll be like, yeah, happy Hanukkah, do you? If you're Christian, go ahead and say Merry Christmas. I'll say Merry Christmas. If you celebrate anything else, just tell me, you know, happy, whatever. But I would prefer that people just get committed around the holidays a little bit more than a happy holidays. get it. I get it's politically correct. You don't want to offend anybody. But I think we're over that, right? I think we've moved past all that stuff and we can just be truthful with what we say to each of. Okay. So here's a deal. All right. So I am basically feeling a sloth, a post-Christmas sloth today. I woke up and in... Granted, I didn't go big like I typically do. And you can ask my four teenage daughters and my beautiful wife. In the past, I had a tendency to basically go way over the limits with my consumption. So, you know, on Christmas Eve, I'd probably have two or three helpings of everything. You know, I'd start with some champagne, then I'd move into some great red wine, and then I'd finish with a couple scotches. You know, maybe a gummy later in the evening, right? And, and then I do the same thing on Christmas morning with a huge Christmas breakfast, probably not the booze and a gummy, but definitely gorging myself. And then I'd go and, you know, I'd try. I would always tell myself, right, I'm going to work out in between, but I didn't. And then I just kept, you know, went into Christmas dinner and ate again. And, you know, that reality used to cause some, some, pretty substantial gut issues where every now and then I'd do a little projectile vomiting later in the night just to get to sleep. And I know that's gross. It's not what you want to hear. But that was the only way I thought you had to do it. Well, you'll be happy to know this year I actually restrained myself, right? I had one helping Christmas Eve, one helping Christmas. I actually did work out yesterday. And so I was able to have a relatively seamless night. Now, if you're struggling this morning and you feel like a sloth, I know what you want to do. You want to just chill. You don't want to do anything. If you're at work, I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about that. But if you're home and you're lounging around, get off your ass. and go workout. All right. Go, you'll feel a thousand times better. Work out with your family. Go snow shoeing. Go skiing. Go for a walk. All right. Go to the gym and start prepping your body for a little recovery because I guarantee you it'll help you. The other aspect of Christmas this year that I really... kind of fell short on as well in terms of the gluttonous uh actions is i told my kids i swore to them i said this year i'm going clark griswall on the lights i'm going to hang i'm going to do the whole trees i'm going to do you know the whole thing and down here in south florida right the big thing is you wrap your palm tree with white lights all the way up and then a little red on top looks kind of weird either like a cigarette or penis or i don't know wherever your head is at you know and

9:16

And so I'm like telling my kids, I'm going big. Even so much as like my wife went out and bought some of these giant globe light balls or like ornament balls that you can hang from the trees, bought a ton of those. And needless to say about a week and a half ago, I hadn't put a damn light up yet. And I was like, all right, no big deal. I'll just, I'll do it real quick. So I go out to do it. I've been work and traveling. I travel for work. I professionally speak all over the country given motivational performance talks. And I got what's done traveling for the first time in like six weeks, got home and didn't do anything. And finally, every other block, a house on the block had lights up except me. So I go out and what's it do? It starts raining. And so now I'm getting wet. My staple gun, I'm, you know, it's not working correctly. My, I lost my ladder. I have no idea where my ladder went. So now I'm using the damn step stool. I can't really reach. And I'm just swearing up and down. I sounded like I had. Tourette's, how much I was just swearing at the lights. I probably had six different light wraps that no longer worked anymore. So it was miserable. So it was the hilarious part is my wife comes home. She sees me in a garage. I'm holding the scotch. I got my glasses on. I basically quit, right? With like five strands of lights on. But, but that, but so I was like, okay, I'm just comfortable with this. I'm just going to let this roll. I'm not doing anything. I'm good to go. Well, this week. Right? I go out. Yesterday, my wife has literally ordered every single shopping gift. She's ordered every single thing there is. She's ordered all of all the presents for the girls. She got all the food. She cooked last Christmas. She cooked Christmas Eve. She got all the gifts for herself, for me, except for a few all talk about here. And I'm in the garage working out while she's slaving, you know, doing all the other prep. And I look over and I see those giant globe. So I'm like, you know what? I'm going to do the right thing. I'm going to step up and really take care of my responsibilities this year. And so I broke those suckers out, you know, assembled them, went and borrowed my... neighbor uh sam's ladder uh and by the way sam and his beautiful wife just had their second child a christmas baby hooya sam jr love you guys congratulations but i go get sam's ladder and i go out and you know the funniest thing uh none of my trees have limbs so i ended up like you know, just kind of rigging up some zip ties and some, some fishing line. And I'm just stapling things to the tree in the most random way. It looks horrible. And then I, last least, you know, I'm like, you know what? Now I know why there are so many blow up like Santa things. It's because nobody likes hanging lights. And so what I do, I broke out one that I bought two years ago that I, my kids said, if you hang that, we quit. And that was a giant blowup Santa next to a mushroom. And so then I was done. And I, felt great like I had actually done something. Well, the reality was I didn't do squat. I really didn't. And, you know, I just, I think the greatest thing to wrap up, you know, this first segment with y'all is to, is to just say,

12:30

You know, what Christmas really is for men out there, young and old, is an opportunity for us to basically say, I'm sorry. Right. Now, I know there's opportunities to say, I'm sorry and buy gifts or say, I'm sorry and cook something on the grill or whatever. But, man, I drop. that Christmas ball so bad this year. And so, you know, I just really, I want to say I'm sorry to my beautiful wife, to my kids. My neighbors are probably pretty stoked because I didn't, you know, make the street look like an anomaly with my house in the middle. I probably should have helped my elderly 80-year-old parents and my brother and brother's partner James cooked a turkey yesterday, but I didn't. So I'm sorry to you all. I'm sorry. Sorry to my cousins and my cousins kids who showed up yesterday at Christmas and all I got you was a lame $50. Actually, my wife got the $50 guest card. So that's what I'm saying. My Christmas response to start this out with everybody is Merry Christmas. I am sorry. Who ya. Clay Travis and Buck Sexton. Mike drops. That never sounded so good. So Christmas is this incredible time a year. It makes us feel like there's this space for us to just relax and take a break. You know, it's the only time where you pretty much can check out from work modes. Starting maybe post Thanksgiving first week at December, where you're like your output is probably 20, 25%. You can get out there and just spend, you know, way too much money on crap you don't need. And that's my favorite aspect of the holidays. Now, I know what you're saying. Christmas is not about materialism, rut. Christmas is about, you know, giving and doing great things for other people. And so that's why, you know, when I buy gifts now, especially with four teenage daughters and a very stylistic wife. has great taste in all things. That's why I go out and I buy my own Christmas presents, right? I've been doing this for a good for, or really post-COVID, right? Because, you know, Christmas time, COVID was we weren't really, there was something going on in the world. I kind of saw this with my background, like, oh, this is going to be bad, a pandemic, maybe. So the end of the world is coming. So I need to go out and buy a bunch of stuff. So I bought a few guns. I bought a pair of Night Vision. I bought a bunch of animals.

18:30

probably 5,000 rounds or so, nothing a lot. But this year was like, okay, things have died down. Trump's in control of a lot of things. You know, we're bombing the snod out of terrorists all over the world, which feels great, by the way. And, you know, that's a great Christmas gift. But, you know, so I'm looking at what do I get for myself? Well, stocking stuffers this year were awesome. I found this great magnetic, like, tactical pistol holder for your call. It's a car. It just slaps right on the side, right? And just you put your pistol down. in so you're ready to go if you get carjacked or jump or just have a little bit of uncontrollable road rage which is very common here in south florida if you don't know how to manifest a good deal is road rage in florida chances are you're not going to last maybe you know maybe 15 to 17 days down here right so i got my tactical magnet and then i found out you actually have to drill holes in your seats that that didn't that's not going to go well uh over well for my my wife and our cars but you know oh well and then the other thing is i bought this new tactical assault stretchy uniform, right? All kinds of companies. I bought Born Primitive, a great company started by a former Navy SEAL, go check them out, highly recommend it. And I bought this incredible, all black, sleek, tactical outfit. And it was so funny because my wife had wrapped it in the, you know, pretty much in the box, put a thing on it and said, you know, two dad from the girls. And, you know, they were like, well, what's that? What did you get it? And, and I, like, so now I'm ready. I've got this great, great outfit, you know, to prep in order to go to war. Because what have we have? We've had the HHS has reached out to people to conduct ops with them. I think, you know, we've got some other people reaching out. You know, people are being. kind of called to go back to service, whether it's at, you know, the agency or wherever it is. But for me, the big one this year that I got super fired up was when Senator Mike Lee introduced the cartel marquee and repisal authorization act, right, in the 119th contract. Now, this bill would authorize the president to issue letters of marquee and reprisal to private U.S. citizens, companies, and entities. These would allow them to legally seize property. vessels and even persons belonging to drug cartels outside U.S. borders that have committed acts of aggression against the United States such as fentanyl traffic. Now, this fired me up. I'm telling you when I say this fired me up. Like, I immediately, you know, reached out to a couple buddies, my buddy Clay Martin, former Green Beret. I called my best friend Sean Ryan, said this is going to be fun. I called Evan Hafer, Black Rifle. I called all kinds of people and got fired up for this. You awesome opportunity to become pirates. Now, I think that that has got to be the greatest opportunity for us in the whole world as former GWAT operators to get back in the...

21:33

Get back in the game to become pirates. So just so you know, we'll touch more on this when I get back. I'm your, I'm hosted. I'm David Rutherford guest host for the Clay and Buck Show. Welcome back to the Clay and Buck Show. I'm your guest host, David Rutherford here. Just reminiscing about good old times when I used to carry a gun for the living in the SEAL teams and working for Blackwater, which really was the time where I actually felt like. I was pretty much engaged in the kind of thing that Senator Mike Lee issued as an idea for President Trump as, you know, the Cartel Marquis and Reprisal Authorization Act. Now, this whole thing allows private citizens to join together to create little pirate gangs and to go out there and begin to terrorize cartels, which I think would be an incredible thing. I remember in the teams and working for at Blackwater. At the agency, we would literally just sit around in our forward operating bases and basically think about all the different ways we could go jack up all the evil people in the world, right? And it was so funny when this was posted. my my buddy em berling game great uh great green beret you should file him on x out there uh posted a picture like what fit he would wear and he posted himself in like a scottish tartan and then you know uh my buddy clay martin green beret badass file clay out there he had himself in like some uh wendango crazy monster outfit right i don't i think i'd want to wear like some cool kit from i don't know uh you know Like. You know, probably just my modern kid I just bought from born primitive, a little bit more functional. But the idea of this whole thing I thought was hilarious. And so I want to ask you, I'm going to have call-ins today. And I want you to call in in my third hour at 1420. I want you to call in and tell me what you would wear if you were going to go out and be a pirate and start seizing stuff from cartel members. And who would you roll with? What would your... crew look like. And so that call-in number is 1-800-282-282-8-2. That's it. You're going to call in third hour at 221 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at 1-800-282-282. And you're going to tell me what you would wear and who would you become a savage with. What would your crew look like? Would you have a bunch of seals, a bunch of green berets, a bunch of Rangers? Would you throw us all together? and, you know, create some kind of weird, weird ordeal there. Just tell me, I want to know what you're going to do. All right.

24:23

Okay, so the other aspect I think I love most about Christmas is Christmas music and entertainment. We just can't get enough of this whole thing. And so this year, obviously, when I flip on Christmas, I go to the essentials, right? I'm looking on TV. I'm looking for the Charlie Brown Christmas special. I'm looking for Rudolph and the red nose reindeer, right? That stop action stuff, the claymation stuff. And my personal favorite is... is Yukon Cornelius, right? I love that dude. Man, always got, he had this pick. He had his little six shooter. There's some great memes out there about Yukon Cornelis. Check those out online, hilarious. And then what? What else? Oldies, I love Bing Crosby. I love the Bing Crosby, David Bowie stuff. I love to Johnny Mathis. Every now and then I can stomach the modern pop stuff, right? Mariah Carey, you're not getting out of Christmas. No matter what, you're going to hear Mariah Carey. You're going to hear it 50 times. So you need. to just grin and bear it, right, right? Motivation is the key to the whole thing, right? That PMA as you're grinding through to pop, the Jonas Brothers, all the latest. You know, Kelly Clarkson's got some awesome stuff out there, love her. But this year, the thing that just completely took me by surprise, which was when I was checking out online. And I saw there was a Snoop Dog halftime show that had a whole host of people, Andre Bechelli and his son. And I would love it. You know, if you guys, Crash, could you play a segment of the Snoop Dog halftime show for me, please?

26:15

Thanks be Now, that's really beautiful stuff, Andre Betrell, but what makes this thing so hilarious, and you go check out the visual list, you can see it all over X right now. But Snoop Dog is wearing a giant long fur red coat. He's got his three-piece suit. He's doing his dance in front of the Bacheles, right? He's got all these other singers. And it just made me think to myself, man, that's Christmas in a nutshell, right? That's Christmas in 2025. And I just love the fact that we were so entertained with Snoop Dog. It got one of the highest radians. You can never go wrong with Snoop Dog. I'm hoping this year's halftime show is as good as this one today. But the other crazy thing that really has hit me this year that I cannot get enough of, this is hilarious. It's all the new AI music stuff that's out there. And so as I'm going through my Instagram feed, and you can follow me. on Instagram at team frog logic that's at team frog logic you can follow me on x that's pretty much the only two place on that at team frog logic follow me personally and i'm looking to scrolling through and i see these fantastic hilarious new songs and the one that that really just cracked me up was a play on the old kind of song, you know, I caught Mommy Kissing Santa, which is always hilarious to me. I love that one. But this one was I caught Santa Claus sniffing cocaine. And it was one of the... funniest things. And it's set in this 1970s kind of soul pop music. And if you haven't tried this yet, take any awesome, hilarious or even good song, like modern rap songs or any song, and put it in the AI music thing and go back to like the 1960s, soul music stuff. And so when this one came, you know, I caught Stan a Clause sniffing cocaine. Like I literally was pissing myself. when I saw and heard this other one. Another one I saw that was absolutely hilarious was the Grinch that stole bitches. And that one to me was just, I again, whoever is out there in on social media land, it's sitting around as you're stuffing your face and you're. punching these things in, man, I'm so thankful for you all because I know one thing, man, Christmas could also be a big downer for people, right? It can really be troubling. It's a real depressive time for many people. But if you just simply go search up these hilarious new AI songs, and I know what you're saying, you're like, rut.

29:04

every AI is going to destroy all of our classic, our classic songs and our classic shows. And I say, yeah, you might be right, but it's also going to give us more memes, more trolling, more hilarity than we've ever gotten before. And I just think that we need more laughing, right? We need that thing. The other. hilarious thing as I saw were these AI photos that were being produced that were absolutely also just, they killed me. One was, it's like this 1970s, uh, wood boarded walls with the shag carpeting and everybody's sitting around a beat up old like fake Christmas tree. And one was I never, one was the Star Wars folks doing that. The other was the shining and Jack Nicholson got an axe for Christmas and he's next to Shelley DeVall and the crazy twins are in the back hallway. Uh, there was a hilarious one with, Pulp Fiction with Samuel Jackson and John Travolter and they're eating McDonald's and he's opening up a gun. There is another hilarious one with Hannibal Lecter. And what I love is that when people kind of stop taking themselves so seriously, what happens around the holidays? People get intensely creative. And... They do really creative things for each other, for sharing with each other and whether it's a creative gift or it's going out with people and having a great night together or it's creating, you know, sending funny memes or funny things to each other. Not just really believe that that's such a positive aspect. So what I think. I also want to do. All right. And also an hour three, here's the second call in question I'm going to have for all y'all, all right? And this is a good one. So the second call-in question, which will take place in the third hour, you can call in at 2.35 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. And I want you to tell me what the most awesome act of kindness that you saw someone do or that you did for someone else this Christmas season. Now, it can be hilarious. Don't get me wrong. They can be funny. They can be hilarious. All that matters is that I think, you know, I want to hear a story about a great act of kindness. Now, the call-in number is 1-800-282-282-282. That's 1-800-2-8-2. Now, don't be confused because I'm also going to have people call in in my second segment in the third hour at 221 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. And you're going to tell me what.

31:55

kit you're going to what what fit you're going to wear when you go raiding cartels and then who you're going to raid with and then segment three what act of kindness are you going to bring bring forward all right because you know really when you think about it like christmas is this pretty amazing time, right? It's a time where we have to kind of reset ourselves in our belief systems. And after the year that we had this year, I think that's a powerful thing to do, right? My best friend, Sean Ryan, had Lee Strobel on his Christmas episode, and I was listening to that. yesterday and it was really beautiful and he told the story of Christmas and talked about Mary, the Virgin Mary and he talked about Bethlehem and Y and Bethlehem, which was the place where David was from, right, and had to be a lineage. He talked about the angels coming, the three wise men, right, coming from the Middle East. And it really just encapsulated this beautiful story of hope. And I think that's the one thing that we need to really recognize is pivotal for everybody, is that we're willing. to reach out and bring that hope for each other. Another thing I'd seen on my feed a couple days ago is my good friend popped up on one of the sites that remembers fallen seals and other fallen people. And, you know, my friend Mark Miner. popped up online. And Mark was just an incredible frog man. He won Honor Man in one of the classes I was in. He had a storied career. But Mark unfortunately took his life a few years ago on Christmas Eve. And I just remember when I got hit with that, how hard that felt, how painful it was. And I just want you to realize that it doesn't take anything Really, it doesn't take any extra energy. You don't have to download anything. You don't have to buy anything to just offer somebody a little bit of kindness around these holidays. And I know you're smoked. I know you're crushed. I know you're getting hammered by, you know, different aspects of your life. You feel like maybe you're not getting ahead or you're overworked or your family dynamics or upset. But the one thing that I've learned in the 30 years that I've really been trying to understand how to be a motivational performance coach. And the thing that actually helps. me and buds was when I sacrificed and helped others. And so I want you to really start thinking about what you can do for the remaining holiday period with the people that you love most, that you care most about, is to get out there and love on them and show them some kindness. All right. This is David Rutherford, guest host for the Clay and Buck Show. Who ya. Two guys walk up to a mic.

I'm your guest host, David Rutherford, from the David Rutherford Show underneath the Clay and Buck Podcast Network for iR Media's premier network. Again, I just feel so blessed and so honored. I just want to thank Clay and Buck. I hope you guys had just a beautiful Christmas holiday and with your family. And Buck, to you and Carrie, man, and Little Speed, I just love you guys so much. It was great seeing you at your Christmas party a couple weeks ago or last week. And it was also great to see Clay and great to see Julie from... from my heart and just everybody who was there, man, so it was wonderful. I think we need to get back to more Christmas parties. There's just something really cool about having Christmas parties. I remember growing up, there would always be these, we'd go over to my parents' friends' house and like you would. hit there'd be like three nights where you'd hit two or three parties a night and you'd run into everybody now it's like man people people struggle having those parties anymore i you know i don't know whether they don't like their neighbors or nobody's communicating much anymore but i think we need to get back to just more parties in general for sure that would definitely help but especially over the christmas holidays because you know times are tough and like i was just talking about before my friend mark minor you know god bless him god rest his soul

you know, there's a lot of difficult things that are going on during these holiday spirits. Now, one of the things that if you don't know about me, again, I'm a former Navy SEAL. I work for Blackwater. I work for the CIA. And for the last 16 years, I've been a motivational performance coach and professional speaker. I work for all different kinds of businesses and organizations. I work with college and professional sports teams. Again, I won a World Series Championship with the Boston Red Sox in 18, won a collegiate World Series Championship with the Oregon State Beavers, a couple other regional stuff as well, too. Last year I did a lot of work with Penn State Athletic Department as well as the Penn State men's hockey team. And so. What I've done is I've compiled all of these information into this concept that I call frog logic. And that's thinking, act, and training, and behaving like a frogman. Well, at least I remove the bombs, the bullets, the death, and the craziness, right? And this is more tolerable for civilians. And what I do is I teach three basic ideas. One, I teach people to embrace their fears. I teach them to forge their self-confidence. And I teach them to live a team life. Now, if you're interested in this curriculum, It's available online for you. All you got to do is go to David Rutherford.com and check out these three individual courses that go week by week. It's journal-based in some activities. But if you engage in these, the whole idea is that you can learn all of the things that I engaged in through my 30 years of carrying a gun and all my time as a former Division I athlete. I paid the cross at Penn State back in the day. And all these lessons I've learned. So, anyways, I just want to say thank you. It's been a great hour so far. Vital doesn't always mean visible.
