93 segmentsThis is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Welcome in, everybody, to the Wednesday edition of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton show. I'm just going to start with some good news today, Clay. Trump's sharing this one out. S&P 500 just hit 7,000 for the first time ever. All caps. America is back. So it's a good thing. Some of you might say, well, I don't have stocks that I'm invested in. You have a retirement account. You work for a company that has public shares. I mean, this actually is an indicator of pretty broad sentiment and at least in some sectors. Economic health. Price is still too high. Yes, I know. The prices would be even worse. If the stock market was down 20%, I can say that as well, meaning. You'd have a much harder time affording the prices if the economy was in a tailspin from a dropping market. So it's good news. I like to start with the good news, which is that we've got the first time ever 7,000 on the S&P 500. We've got the White House weighing in and now other places as exactly promised to you on this show. Other places starting to get... involved and see the early stages of these anti-ice operations, these sabotage operations. White House has spoken about this one. We shall get into that. Also, Trump talking a pretty tough game about Iran, and we've got some updates on that situation, plus Venezuela. So we will get into all of that. I've also got some great guests joining today. Mark Halpern, who's the editor-in-chief of Two-Way, and he's a host in his own right. You guys all, I'm sure, have seen his political analysis. What was his book, Clay, the most famous one that he did? Game change. He was game change, really? I think I'm going to make sure that that's correct because I don't want to. By the time we have him on, we've got to make sure we get that right. But I believe... that he was one of the co-authors. Yeah, he was co-author with Heilman. Okay, that, yes, yes. So that, that's right. And then we've got 2.30, Joe LaVornia, who is a counselor to the Treasury sector. Look, there's a big summit going on in D.C. Clay, now we're going to be there, but there's some travel issues with, you know, the snowpocalypse that is hitting. Clay, it's even getting a little chilly down here in South Florida. Some of you will note. I am wearing a sweatshirt, not just because it is indeed cozy earth, one of our fabulous sponsors, and it is the most comfortable sweatshirt imaginable, but because it is a little chilly here and it's going to get chillier. So I understand that places are going through a bit of a deep freeze right now. It is dropping into the 60s. It might even hit the 50s in South Florida. It's rough. I will say this, by the way, on the weather thing. It is actually far worse than I realized in Nashville all the way down to Mississippi. I don't know if you've seen the footage buck. They basically have shut down several interstates and they are impassable in Mississippi right now. And last night I went to the Kentucky Vanderbilt basketball game. Vanderbilt University is shut down, which never happens.
And I was blown away by how awful. This was the first time I've left my house since the storm hit. I was blown away by how awful the roads are and how significant the damage is from this winter storm that came through, the ice in particular. So Nashville is hammered all the way down into Mississippi. There's about a 200-mile stretch, I would say, Buck. where it is utterly devastating in terms of the number of people without power, the number of trees down, the amount of significant damage. So we're thinking about all you guys out there that are from Nashville, basically south in this stretch, dealing with a truly awful scenario. And yes, Buck pointed out, we were going to be in Washington, D.C., with the president and with the Treasury Secretary today at these Trump account announcements. But we couldn't get up there. And so we had all sorts of issues with travel. And so we're going to have, we'll talk about what was going to happen there. I'm sure we'll be up in D.C. again soon. But that is taking place right now. And Marco Rubio is testifying under oath on Capitol Hill about Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, and everything else he's dealing with as Secretary of State. Now let's take things back into the center of the political storm. And that is the situation in Minneapolis, ICE, what's going on there. And our friend Will Kane, who had Trump on yesterday, asked the president about this. Because what's happened now is there's been a switch up in some of the personnel. Tom Homan has been sent to Minnesota. And... Kristi Noem is coming under a lot of criticism, a lot of pressure. As I said, she said the wrong stuff after the shooting of Pretty. So that was not a good moment in messaging. She just, she messed that up. President still says he has confidence in her, though. Any, I won't get into more of that for now. I'll just say Tom Homan, I think, is the guy who should have been running this op and should be running all these ice ops the whole time. And I don't know why anybody would think otherwise, but here we are. So Tom is going there, and here is Trump speaking specifically about this. This is cut 12. Hit it.
Messages out that Tom Homan is in. Commander Bovino is supposedly leaving Minneapolis along with some CBP agents. Is this a pullback? I don't think it's a pullback. It's a little bit of a change. Everybody in this room that has a business, you know, you make little changes. You know, Bovino is very good, but he's a pretty out there kind of a guy. And in some cases, it's good. Maybe it wasn't good here. But you have to understand, when I watch some of the people that I've been watching over the last few weeks, these are paid insurrectionists. These are paid agitators. These people aren't normal, like, OG, that, you know, they're... incensed about anything how do you get incensed when you go into a state and you're taking criminals out now clay i am still i am still hopeful and i think it is probably the case that this is a shift in tactics but not an abandonment of enforcement but i will get into what we're already seeing and i've been saying this ever since this incident happened you're seeing more noise in new york More of the organized sabotage operation stuff popping up. You're seeing other places like Philadelphia, their DA, threatening to arrest ICE officers. The madness can spread if it is not contained in Minneapolis. What do you see? That's the concern. And you know this, but... I think everybody out there is becoming aware. If resistance works in Minneapolis, then they will copy it everywhere else. And the ultimate challenge that we're going to get into here. And it is a challenge of wills to a large extent is it's very easy to start as the Trump administration did with deporting people who have violent criminal records and people who have broken our law. It's a no-brainer that they should be out of the country. But at some point, If there are 20 million illegals, there are not 20 million people who have committed violent crimes. So if you want to try to return the nation to some semblance of lawfulness when it comes to our immigration policy, then you're going to have to start to deport people who are not necessarily violent criminals. And that becomes a political challenge. Now, I think Buck, in general... The number of people that have decided to leave is fairly substantial. And it may well be the case that the best part of the ICE deportation policies is just letting people know, hey, the salad days are over. You can't rely on the American taxpayer to be giving you free hotel rooms in New York City, free Wi-Fi, free meals. Like, that is utterly absurd and ridiculous. And I like to think that we've turned a page at least a little bit on that. And the data reflects that as many people as we have been able to deport, that there are millions more that are voluntarily leaving because they're recognizing that the situations back home are not necessarily better or getting better relative to what they have here. The challenge is... I think Democrats are playing the long game here. And this is what we told you. Once you let the 20 million in, it becomes almost impossible to get the 20 million out. And it would take sustained multi, multi numbers of presidential Republicans that are committed to this for years and years to come. And I think they know it's not going to happen.
There is some precedent for this. The Eisenhower administration got over a million illegals deported back in, I forget what year of Eisenhower's term, but you're going back 70 years, okay? And you have massive deportation operation that occurred then. There's also, Clay, the self-deportations that occurs, a big part of this. needs to become workplace enforcement too, which that's, then you get, all of a sudden, Republicans get a little, a little weak in the knees. Or a lot of Republican leadership starts to go, well, you know, we don't want to punish the job creators. Like, well, you are if you're employing a large number of illegals who are going to be reliant on welfare and social services provided by the taxpayer. And also. There is something about being American and Americanness that should not just be conferred upon people by virtue of a physical status that is illegal in the first place. There is a principle at work here, but you need to do workplace enforcement. Trump also, though, I wanted to note this because we do get your calls and emails about this or talkbacks on how this seems to be detracting or distracting from... The fraud in Minneapolis. Trump is saying, I promise you we're still on that. If this is the game they're playing at some level, it's not going to work. This is from that Will Kane interview on Fox. Again, this is 14. Hit it. This whole Minnesota thing, it started because of a focus on fraud. It started because of illegal immigration and welfare fraud. The question is, will there be accountability? In Minnesota and beyond, other states, California. Minnesota is one state, if you look at California. So in Minnesota, they think it's $19 billion. If they think it's $19 billion, triple it or quadruple it. And if we catch a lot of this fraud, and I felt it for a long time, but now we know what's happening. And the answer is, yeah, there will be accountability. Clay, there will be accountability. I hope that is, in fact, the case. The best tweet I've seen on this is, have you heard anybody complaining that their kids have lost child care? since the money was frozen for Minneapolis child care. I mean, all of you out there that are parents and have your kids in daycare in any way, and I bet that's a huge percentage of people that listen to us on a regular basis, if your child care was interrupted, it would be a major issue. Isn't it really interesting that none of these Somali parents have been up in arms over the fact that their kids, they're not able to get their kids into child care and these subsidies are not working for them? It shows you how much fraud was going on.
These people were never enrolled in schools. They were all getting kickbacks. They created one of the largest frauds related to child care that we've ever seen. And when it's actually stopped, there is zero pushback from people saying, wait a minute, my kids were legitimately enrolled. I've got jobs. I need help with the kids in the child care. Now we can get into what the role of the federal government or state government should be when it comes to child care in general. That is, I think, a. really significant situation there, Buck, because people don't get to count if you're a mom or you're a dad or your grandma or you're a grandpa and you're providing child care for your family, you don't get to huge, massive discounts in earnings, right? Like, you don't get to count that as a $50,000 a year job. I think there's a lot of different ways that tax code could support parents and grandparents and family members actually providing child care for family. which happens all over the country and is a huge part of the safety net for families. But, yeah, again, just have you seen anybody complaining in Minneapolis about this? It's just indicative of to what extent it is a fraud. And by the way, this event that's going on right now, which we'll get into the so-called Trump accounts. I actually think this is a great idea buck. And we talk a lot about financial literacy on this program. And we can get into this somewhat during the course of the program. So few kids out there have financial knowledge or understand the concept of compound interest. That is, if you start with $1,000 invested when you're really young and you just allow that money to continue to grow. It is transformative by the time you get to 20 or 30 years old. I'm glad you're admitting this because I believe you were giving me a bah humbug and making fun of me for being the uncle who gives his nieces and nephews who are toddlers or babies instead of useless, you know, like butterfly socks or something. I give them money in long-term either, you know, stock accounts or... for their purposes of college because that money grows, Clay. That is very, very good of you. I would suggest maybe Uncle Buck could also give a toy to a kid in addition to a, I don't think it's one or the other. Let's not get crazy. Let's not get crazy. I think you probably could get a, you know, talk a truck for a kid and also give him some help on his future college. But I do think this compound interest idea. is one of the least understood aspects. And what it does is, and we'll have some fun with this, because I do think it's important. But it... teaches you the values and power of individual responsibility from a financial perspective and playing the long game as opposed to constantly trying to scramble in the short game. We'll get into that. In the meantime, two gifts are better than one when it comes to Valentine's Day, and it's going to be here before you know it, so don't mess this up right now. Welcome back in Clay Travis, Buck Sexton show. I was not expecting ever to see this duo. Nikki Minaj right now at the Trump account rally. She just, he is a famous rapper musician. She just went scorched earth on. everyone who comes after President Trump and says she is his number one fan. That is cut 29. I am probably the president's number one fan. And that's not going to change. And the hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more. And it's going to motivate all of us to support him more. We're not going to let them get away with bullying him and, you know, the smear campaigns. It's not going to work. Okay? He has a lot of force behind him. And God is protecting him. Amen.
Buck, some of these in these buddy movies, I would not have foreseen happening ever. She's one of the most famous musicians in the world. I think it's fair to say. And so that just happened a few minutes ago in D.C. at the Treasury event. I would not have. There's a lot of things that you have said there that you would not necessarily have anticipated would be in the same sentence. And yet here we are. Trump is in so many ways, Clay, broadening the tents. Yes. But unfortunately, Biden broadened the tent to include 10 million people who aren't supposed to be here in the first place. So we're going to get back to that and handling that situation, which is right in the center of the fight these days. All right, for President's Day, 2026, Pure Talk is making their attractive price offer in terms of former presidents forever remembered on our currency. Stay with me on this one. Pure Talk wants you to save money in your cell phone bill. You know that. When you switch your cell phone service to Pure Talk, you're getting service for just $25 monthly. That's a Jackson and a Lincoln, a $20 bill and a $5 bill for just $25 a month. Pure Talk gives you unlimited talk, text, and plenty of data. Now compare that to big wireless companies where you're likely to spend a whole lot more every month. Save your Benjamins for another day. Pure Talk is an American wireless company, one that supports our veterans and invests in a U.S. only customer service team. So when you call, you're talking to someone right here in the U.S. Peartock uses the same towers as the big carrier, so enjoy superior 5G coverage without the inflated price. Dial pound 250, say Clay and Buck. Get 50% off your first month. Dial pound 250, say Clay and Buck. All right, welcome back in to Clay and Buck. So Alex Pretty. Not pretty, pretty. I mean, it's not, you know what I mean. As I've been told now, his name is pretty. Although, although I do have to point out something that this reminded me of, but I don't think we got to yesterday. This man was killed. We all know that he was held down. He was shot, ICE officers. He's one of these involved in these sabotage operations. But now it looks like two ICE officers shot him. It's looking more like they... They reacted to a threat that was not really not really the threat that was there. They may have overreacted, and it's still being investigated. Facts are still coming out. But right now, if he didn't have the gun on his person and they shot him, that's a very tough, meaning he has been disarmed and then he gets shot. That's a very tough situation to say the Law Enforcement Act. Now, there's acting in good faith and making a mistake. Those are things that can be also the case, right? So again, if somebody reaches behind, the cop says drop it, drop it, drop it, and they make a furtive movement, they call it, by the waistband for a cell phone, but it's dark and you don't see and you shoot. The cop isn't going to go to prison for that, but the person who got shot is probably going to get like a $10 million for their families. And I think that's where this is likely heading. And I've thought that.
early on in this process, unlike the Renee good situation, although she may get a whole lot of money too just because of the jurisdiction this is in. But I think this may be a tragedy that results in a large judgment against the federal government here in favor of the Preti family. Yes, Clay. There is also, and you may have said this, I was reading to try to get updated because this news is breaking right now. There is also now the report that two people fired guns, right? So we initially said we thought it was one person. I think it gets harder to explain, to be fair, when two different guys are firing weapons in the wake of this shooting as the... You'll have law enforcement, I'm sure that it will be lining up in a second here to call in to tell us something, which is true, but which I'll just cut to the chase. Oftentimes, Clay, if you're in a situation like that, if one person draws and shoots... There's usually a cascade effect that, or often, I should say a cascade effect where someone goes, oh my gosh, you know, we're in a threat situation. They pull out, start shooting too. Again, this does not, this does not mean that it was a clean shoot. I want to be clear about that. It just means that that is what looks like it may have happened. This is what the left wanted, which is really sick and twisted. They wanted there to be a murkier. They tried with Renee Good. But think about this. Renée Good gets killed in this situation. And you're this guy, Prattie. Now you're going to go out there and do that. Think about the mindset here. And why I mentioned the pretty versus pretty thing for a second is. MSNBC, I couldn't believe this, but it's real because there's been comparison side by side, Clay, of the MSNBC used AI or was sharing an AI doctored image that made this guy, I don't know else to say, look more handsome. Because then he'd be a more appealing martyr. They can't make him a black guy. They can't make him a minority woman or, you know, they can't do any of that. So what they did do is let's just make him a whole lot more handsome so that it will upset. But this goes to the point about emotional manipulation. It's meant to upset people more. But it's not about the facts. It's not about the ethics of this. It's about outrage, Clay. I mean, MSNBC. This is our MS now, whatever. The fact that they did this is outrageous. Here's Trump, by the way, speaking about this 13. We didn't do this one yet. Did we? I was about to do it. No. Cut 13, hit this one. I think the whole thing is terrible. I don't like the fact that he was carrying a gun that was fully loaded and he had two magazines with him. And it's pretty unusual. But nobody knows when they saw the gun, how they saw the gun, everything else. Bottom line, it was terrible. It is a tragedy for sure. Trump's right about that. And I think Trump is completely correct also here in saying, and we got to see when did they see the gun? Where was the gun? Everyone keeps saying we have video.
The video, it's kind of tough to see because of all the people around him. And it's very, you're talking about very specific things, very specific timing, and it happens really fast, Clay. But now we have the left feeling like the narrative is on their side and ascendant. And I worry that this is going to result and not just a tactical change, but a pullback. And I can already point to other places where they're lining up to be the next Minneapolis. No doubt. And again, the fallout from this shooting, we'll see what ends up happening. But I think more and more is going to look like these guys are imperiled in terms of potential charges being brought against them. It doesn't change, however. The fact that what you just said is very true, this is the goal of protest. They said in July that the way to draw attention to the ICE protest, the way to help to diminish the power of ICE and the deportations, was to get people shot. And they got two people shot in Minneapolis. And the truth of the matter is that that changes the narrative from their perspective. So this isn't an accident of the protest. This is what was intended to occur. And when it does happen, they want to celebrate it happening. And it's unfortunate that they would basically be tossing these guys out there as sacrificial lambs. But again, Buck, we talked about this yesterday, and I think it's very significant. This guy was tackled and had a broken rib trying to obstruct an ice arrest just a few days before this year. He's a loon. The guy's a loon, okay? I'm sorry he's dead. He didn't deserve to die. It is a tragedy. I do feel sorry for his family, but the guy was a loon. He had become deranged because people like Tim Walz are saying that it's like Anne Frank hiding from the Gestapo. Yes. And then he went back to obstruct anew with a loaded weapon. So to me, the logic here is he did make a decision that he might have to use a loaded weapon. Presumably he didn't have a loaded weapon when he got tackled and got the broken rib the first time. So this was the decision he made that he might have to get engaged in an act of violence. And if, if, if you knew you had a weapon, let's pretend you do you had a weapon. Would you decide to obstruct ICE agents who were making an arrest and get involved in any way, knowing the fraught circumstances of these relationships? If you were operating of sound mind, would you think, hey, you know what? I need to get in an altercation that I intentionally create with ICE agents, knowing that I have a weapon on me right now. Would anybody out there think that that was a smart decision to make? This guy intentionally put himself in a dangerous situation and unfortunately is dead because of a series of choices that he made, like you said, Buck, that were motivated by Mayor Fry and Tim Walz's encouragement, that the idea that these guys are heroes for the behavior. And I've got to say this to some of the 2A organizations out there who are all like, but you're allowed to bring a gun to a protest.
We can all look up the law here, but let me tell you what's happening right now. Gavin Newsom. is giving speeches about how outrage she is because this is about the First and the Second Amendment. Gavin Newsom is citing the Second Amendment now in the Pretty case. Gavin Newsom, who just banned Glockes from his state, basically, who has tried to ban all kinds of assault rifles. He's increased the prices on all these different processes. I mean, he has done everything he can to ban the Second Amendment in his state. But all of a sudden, he's, oh, you've got to be able to bring a gun to a protest. Don't be used by the other side, okay? When people like me are telling you that you are being used, if you're standing alongside Gavin Newsom, I'm like, you're allowed to bring a gun to a protest. It's not a protest. It's a sabotage operation. It's confronting police. It's a dumb thing to do. As I said, it is currently the law in Florida Clay. I could walk across the street to my grocery store right now. wearing the mask from the movie scream with an AR-15 with a silencer on it. I could do that legally. Legally. Now, I probably couldn't go into the grocery store, but I could be outside walking in the street. That would be an incredibly stupid and disruptive thing to do, okay? People would think that I was a maniac, and they'd be right to think that, even though the law is on my side. Even though legally, I wouldn't be doing it. I mean, people might say, oh, but they can get you for menacing or disturbing the peace or something. But in terms of the gun stuff, it's allowed. My point is... This guy was a loon. What he did was dumb. Doesn't mean he deserved to die, but we are allowed to talk about the full context of this situation. And also the bringing two magazines, I might add. I mean, you know, I concealed carry sometimes. My older brother points out, he's like, why not all the time? Because my older brother can seal carries all the time. So he's the real deal. I'm like, you know, a slightly scaled down. Even when he's out walking his dog, he's got a gun on him at all times. I mean, he had a gun on the Pomeranian case, which he would carry around, the Pomeradian, by the way. We wouldn't expect the guy with a Pomeranian to be strapped. And he was really strapped. Let me tell you, 24-7, okay? So he's a CCW guy through and through. But, but. I mean, extra magazines? I mean, are you in Fallujah? I mean, what do you think this is? I mean, they think about what this, this guy is dressed like he's going into battle. He's not dressed like somebody who's trying to be able to defend themselves should the need arise. And why would you need to defend yourself if you're going to a place that's full of law enforcement? Yes. There's a reason why you're not allowed to carry if you go into like a courthouse, because guess what? The assumption is that the state's going to keep you safe in there, and if you're going in there with a gun, you're doing bad things. So I'm frustrated to see some of the two-way people falling in this trap of just, like, standing along. Yeah, and I understand what the law says. It doesn't mean it's smart. It also can mean that people are being used in this process. We'll take some of your call, by the way. I'll take all the heat on that one, by the way. You said it, but I'm telling you, people.
I don't think anybody out there who's really rational is arguing against this. Look, there is a difference between what you can legally do. I like your analogy. The screen mask with an AK go to public seems like a poor choice, right? There's a difference between what you can legally do and what you should do in a common sense basis, right? And I think most people out there get it because... Gun owners, by and large, I think are super individually responsible and understand the larger context of these choices. And I think, again, this guy getting tackled, getting a broken rib, and deciding that he needed to be armed, he thought that he was going to need to get into a gun battle. We won't know for sure because he's passed. But I think the evidence of what he chose to do suggests that he thought he was going and might need to get into a gun battle with ICE agents because he thought that he was a hero because of the moronic takes from Tim Walz and Jacob Frey. All right. When we come back, we'll take some more of your calls and get some of your talkbacks, but I want to tell you, all about our friends at Legacy Box. We've got a ton of different stories that we are tracking. Let me give you an update, by the way. We haven't talked about this yet.
Last night, Elon Musk Omar, while speaking, someone in the front row came up and threw a substance on her. An investigation by hazmat has determined that it was apple cider vinegar that was thrown on to her. We're going to get into this a little bit in the next hour because this is, the man has been charged with assault. Seems very strange. And again, we'll get into this at the top of the next hour buck. But I watch this video. Can I give you two? Only as I see it, I'm assessing the situation. First of all, just in case they're going to clip this or not. You know what I love? Nobody gives a you know what about media matters anymore. I don't even know that site still exist. Bottom dwelling scumbags. Honestly, there is no, there is no job. I would rather be. I mean, I was going to say it's an honorable thing to sweep out the elephant cages at the zoo. I would do anything before working, I think it would be anything lawful before working at Media Matters for a job. But I was going to say before, yeah, it's bad. Don't squirt things at politicians. We never advocate that. Don't assault people. We never advocate that. Bad thing to do. Bad, bad, naughty. We disagree with what happened here. Now. having said that, I love the having said that pivot. Having said that, I see two options here. This guy's either so crazy that there's no, you know, you're going to find out that he, you know, speaks to pink elephants in the sky in his spare time, basically, and, you know, like lives in his mom's basement, the whole thing. And in that case, you just got a whack, whack a dude. Yes. Or. Or.
somebody on the team who wanted to make Ilhan Omar look like she's under threat, just like all these Republicans are. Those are the only options, as I see it, I'm open to being proven wrong. You're not going to find out this guy was like leading, you know, major Tea Party organization for the last decade or something. It's not going to happen. I mean, if you go into the guy's logic, you make an apple cider vinegar mix and you go to a public event, you sit on the front row. And you decide that you're going to throw the apple cider vinegar mix on her? Like it doesn't, to your point, this doesn't even add up. It just ruins your life. It just ruins your life. It does nothing. Correct. Turns her into a hero now as well. That's it. Correct. And it's also like it's nonsensical. There's no message being sent. Like, look, I think all those people who believe in climate change and go try to wreck artwork or glue themselves to basketball courts or whatever else, like I think they're morons, but their action actually impacts things in a substantial way. What did this guy actually achieve? I think it's interesting to talk about. When we come back, Trump accounts in the news. Steve Kerr, I don't know if Buck has seen this, Golden State Warriors coach, last night at his press conference wait in. I want to play you this cut because I do think it's significant. And team, if we could grab Steve Kerr also saying that misinformation is a huge issue in the country. Well, I just want to weigh in on this clay. Steve Kerr is no Pat Summerall. Okay, that I can tell you. Buck and I did an interview with Mark Halperin, who will join us in the second hour of this program. And Buck was asked a very challenging question. What did he think about Madden and Summerall? If you have a clue who Madden and Summerall are, then you have a different take than Buck did. We'll have some fun with that. Hour number two next.
