Buck Brief - Exclusive Reporting: GOP Senators Betray Trump on SAVE America Act

After the Texas Senate race, of course, we saw a play out. And this is one of those topics that seems pretty common sense that a lot of voters agree with that voted for President Trump in 2024. And we saw how the 2020 election played out. So I think for a lot of the GOP base, seeing that what they're saying behind these closed doors is really important. So explain this to me if you would. Can this even, it can't get through, right? So is the point here, as long as the filibuster is in place for the Senate Republicans to act as one on this, pass the Save America Act, which looks like that's not even going to happen, but just to play this out, they pass the Save America Act and then force Democrats to do an actual filibuster. Is that the game plan? Yeah, so you're hearing two arguments. I'll start with Mike Lee's argument on that side. It's a little more complicated to understand sometimes, but it's basically saying we do not have the 60 votes in order to go forward for cloture. So now we're going to try possibly a talking filibuster as he what he thinks is the best thing to go forward on this. What that would require is the Senate Majority Leader John Thune to basically put this thing on the floor and give it time and it can go on for weeks. But it can be painful. They would have to work. They would have to stand on their feet, which is hard for the senators, I think, on both sides. I think we know at this point. But basically would say, you know, we have a real chance here of, you know, putting Democrats in a bad position, PR-wise, politically, to say they are against this. And that's what he's asking for. As far as John Thune's argument, he was on Brett Baer's show actually on Tuesday explaining this. They just don't have enough votes. But he won't, you know, clarify. as to why he won't kind of tough it out, use his leverage to go after some of these GOP senators, Tom Phyllis, who's been on that side, Senator Mitch McConnell. You know, you can name a few of them that are kind of the obvious detractor sometimes on this. Senator Susan Collins has also come on the side of signing with the Same America Act, I think the one that was passed in the House specifically. So, I mean, you can... kind of look at this both arguments but i mean since the senate majority leader when it comes to the talking filibuster has the power to do it there is a frustration though as to why he hasn't done it and the excuse tends to be oh we need to get this legislation passed or this legislation pass when they're kind of just been the stall in the senate and i think most americans that keep up with politics kind of see have seen this uh there's dhs funding that was having trouble being put through so there's an argument to be said okay which one is more important to us going forward? And we can also talk about the FISA attachment that, you know, President Trump has put forward saying, you know, I don't want FISA without Save America attached to it, which there's an argument to be made that that's against Fourth Amendment rights, spying on Americans. There's a lot of the grassroots that disagree with that. So the actual aspect of this of how to get it passed is the actual argument, though, that is continuously being made. And you've seen Senator Lego on Fox News and talk about it and John Thune. We're going to come back here in a second. Ashley, I want to ask you what you're hearing about how, clearly some Republicans in the Senate, not huge MAGA guys, really. That's not a surprise to anybody, though. And now, back to a regularly scheduled programming. Ms. Brassfield, tell me... What are you hearing about Republicans in the Senate and this Iran deal? Because it's interesting. You have some Trump haters who I think might actually like it. And then you have some generally pro-Trump people, although complicated history, like Senator Ted Cruz, who seems like he doesn't really like it. So what have you heard from the actual senator, Senate staffers? So this is my observation on it so far is, you know, you have a lot of these, I would say, more so pro-war senators and, you know, considered MAGA or not. But I think there is this kind of switch all the sudden. They were the ones saying, oh, these, all these panikins that didn't want the war. But then they're all of a sudden not technically trusting Trump's deal. And, you know. We've just got the deal actually, the actual paperwork and framework yesterday to the public. So obviously there was kind of this rallying up on the pro-war front, I think. Not sure if Israel had heard about the deal yet, if not, or the public not hearing about it. But it was this kind of interesting switch of not trusting what President Trump was doing that I found very interesting. But I mean, look, I think on the Senate side, specifically we saw Roger Marshall go on CNN. I believe last night and say, you know, he would like to see Iran be able to defend itself, which I thought was a very interesting answer myself, seeing that. So I think it's an interesting spread. And it was a strategic decision by the administration not to share the deal with Congress, obviously. And I think that you see kind of the aspects of why that might be because of the Save America Act and the discussions there, the relationships maybe that are complicated now in the Senate comparatively to the start of the second term for the Trump administration. But I find it very interesting, and I think it's going to be, you know, we have 60 days to see the outcome of this MOU going forward. And it's going to be quite interesting to see which sides come out more satisfied. And there is a discussion of, you know, what does it mean to have won, obviously meeting the objective goals that the DOW has set out? But for a lot of people across the right in the conservative spectrum that are more pro-war, anti-war, than in the middle trusting Trump, that they either agree with it or they don't.

Yeah, it's interesting because you have the people who... in politics and in general, right, who opposed the war in the first place are now saying that they are, they feel like they're vindicated. People who were for this action are also somewhat upset with Trump. And then there are people that seem to be just in a, I trust Trump to see this through category. And I see that among senators and members of the House too. Like there's these different, these different voices. that sometimes intersect and sometimes obviously are in opposition in ways that are surprising. Yeah, well, you can look at President Trump's own opinion. I don't think he personally enjoys war. You saw that with some of the comments he's made about Benjamin Netanyahu and the bombings in Lebanon himself. So I mean, if you want to, you know, look at this spectrum of the conservative movement, I'm aware President Trump falls. He doesn't seem to like war. Obviously, we've, you know, been carrying out a, you know, whole bombing campaign against Iran. But it's, you know, to him, I think in his mind, and I don't want to put words in his mouth, it seems like he wanted an end eventually. For some, it feels like on the right, they don't want an end or whatever the end is, it comes down to annihilation of Iran of some sort. So it is this wide spectrum, and that's what I mean about winning here. And you, you know, they set out the goals of what they wanted to do when Iran, the government did and the administration did. But I think for a lot of these people with this whatever peace deal memorandum, whatever wordage you would like to use, there's going to be some that are not satisfied. And that's what, you know, war is ugly. And at certain points, I know the saying is nobody wins. Obviously, we hope the U.S. wins in the interim of this. I think we can all agree on that. But there's going to be disagreement going forward. Yeah, war is hell. It also has been said. And it is certainly true. I think there should be at least agreement across. A lot of folks here that it's good that that part of it, that the conflict part of it, the kinetic action, as they say in the military, has settled down quite a bit. All right, now I want to take in a different direction. Have a little fun for a second here. What are you doing to celebrate? You're a D.C. native. You are something of a... Just going to be honest, you're a swamp dweller. You dwell in the swamp itself. Don't call me that, no. So, yeah, I mean, so technically, you know, that is where you are. But I'm sure it's going to be a super fun place to be for the 250th and all the stuff that this administration is planning to do. What are you going to partake in anything in particular? Are you sad? Millie Vanilli has pulled out of the music act. We spoke to Vanilla Ice. I will tell you he is definitely in. So where are you on all this? Yeah, so here at The Daily Color, we try and keep our polls on the American people. I know we're located in D.C., but we want to cover things that the American people care about that matter to them that affect them in their everyday lives. So I always try and keep that in mind. One of the interesting things that they've done with this 250 that they recently announced just this week that I jumped on when I saw it was the 250 rodeo. And I can't spoil too much, but we're going to be doing something.

The Daily Caller is, me and a colleague, Rebecca. We're going to be going down there possibly and checking it out and giving some behind the scenes before the rodeo starts. That automatically, I'm a Southerner that caught my eye and I was like, I got to be there. And I also was walking the mall yesterday. They're constructing everything. It looks great right now. I saw the Ferris wheel being constructed. But they've also got this People World Cup section set up for viewing purposes for the DC games. And I think it's a great setup that I walked past it last time. I was not able to go in because I had a bag. TSA rules apply people. Don't bring your bag. But it's such a great setup. And it's a really great view. We were just over there yesterday walking through it all and you're seeing it come together. And I think people are going to really enjoy it. It's going to be a great time. And a daily college planning on covering many aspects other than just the rodeo. What is, will it be, I'm sorry, I have to ask. Yes. Will it be your first rodeo? It will not be my first rodeo. As a southerner, I've been to plenty in Texas, but they have a ranch. I don't remember the name, and I've forgotten it now, but it's coming from Colorado. So we're getting the real thing, cowboys, cowgirls. So, I mean, you're going to get, it seems like everything you want, it's the roping, riding. So to get all the swamp creatures to come see what real America is all about, is what I say. Are you going to get some, because I know you were D1 volleyball player, are you going to get some 250th? Celebrate America beach volleyball matches going out on the mall. We might have to. There are some courts over by the Lincoln Memorial and maybe we should get some going. Hustle a few people or get some, you know, collaborative games. But it's going to be a great view. They're doing such a great job right now. I mean, they just have an idea for you. I have an idea for you. Viral video idea. You just go recruit a bunch of purple-haired, nose-ringed, Trump-hating communists. And then you just say, we're just going to have a friendly game in celebration of 250th. And then you don't tell them you play D1 volleyball and you spike it at them as hard as you can. There you go. You'll hustle them. I'm like, or we can keep a patriotic and take the National Guard and have a fun game instead. They're more fun.
