This is John Whitmire, with Ted Woodward has the morning off. The Secret Service says one of its agents shot a suspect who reportedly fired a weapon near the White House. Monday afternoon, Fox's Mike Emmanuel is in Washington with more. Secret Service says a plane closed officer spotted someone around 3.30 this afternoon with a weapon not far from the White House. The suspect fired his weapon after being confronted by officers. A juvenile bystander was hit by a bullet. A uniform Secret Service officer shot the suspect near the Washington Monument. He's been transported to a local hospital. Secret Service notes the vice president's motorcade drove by that area a short time before the incident. The deputy secret service director says the agency will get to the bottom of whether this was a threat to the president or not. The White House was briefly locked down while the incident was being investigated. A Wichita Police officer has been arrested for domestic violence over the weekend. WPD spokesman Andrew Ford confirmed that an officer was arrested on Sunday following a domestic violence incident at a home in Bel Air on Saturday. The officer was identified by Sedgway County booking records as Grayson Hofer. He is accused of domestic violence and battery and was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on Sunday. Investigator said the officer had a prior relationship with the alleged victim, but they were not married. Ford said that the officer has been relieved of sworn duties, removed from all enforcement duties, and placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy, effective immediately. Phil Hildebrand, KNS News. At least 10 people are injured following a shooting at a party near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma Sunday night. Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward provided very little details on the victim's injuries. I can confirm that we have transported 10 to area metro hospitals in various conditions. I do not have an update on those conditions at this time. However, there will be more victim numbers coming in as some did take their own personal vehicles to the hospital. Edmond police say two shooters wearing ski masks open fire on a group of young people. Those gunmen remain at large. Western Kansas tends to face dry weather, but farmers say this year's drought is unusually bad. While some wheat has survived the drought, an incoming freeze puts it at risks. Temperatures will fall below freezing Tuesday night, which risks causing damage to the wheat itself. When wheat heads open, it's almost fully grown, meaning that it can be more easily damaged by the cold.

Wichita school leaders are recommending a $615 million bond proposal that could be largely tax neutral, according to the district. The plan would go before voters in November if approved by the school board in June. It's split into two questions. The first, about $407 million, would keep the current property tax rate the same, according to the district. The second, nearly $208 million, would increase taxes slightly if approved. District leaders say the funding would rebuild several schools, upgrade aging facilities, and improve air quality and career training spaces. Community feedback showed strong concern about costs. Opponents of the plan argue the current bond expires in less than two years, so any new bond amounts to essentially a net tax increase. They point to declining enrollment and recent school closings. and argue the district is already slated to receive over $100 million in increased funding from the state. The board is expected to decide next month whether to put the proposal on the November ballot. The process is underway to find homes for hundreds of beagles. Rescue organizations have banded together to find new homes for about 1,500 beagles removed from a breeding facility in Wisconsin. Last month, police resorted to using pepper spray to stop activists from breaking into Ridgeland farms to remove the dogs they said were being mistreated. The rescue groups, including Big Dog Ranch Rescue, out of South Florida, paid an undisclosed amount to have the dogs removed. a process that continues this week. Workers at Big Dog Ranch say the Beagles are adjusting and warming up to their new temporary home. Hundreds of applications have already been received for the dog's adoptions. Gernal Scott, Fox News. Today there are primaries in Indiana and Ohio and Vermont, Senator Bernie Sanders, now has multiple endorsements under his belt with six months out from the November midterms. Fox's Chad Pergram has details on Capitol Hill. Democrats veering left for the midterm. Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders endorsing progressives like Democratic Michigan Senate hopeful, Abdul El-Sayed. I'm the only candidate for U.S. Senate who hasn't taken a dime of corporate money and never will. Critics attacked Abdul El-Sayed for his comments after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed at the start of Operation Epic Fury. Some Democrats are concerned that extreme candidates could alienate mainstream voters in November. A Washington Post poll found that 53% of those surveyed believe Democrats are too liberal. It comes as Democrats and Republicans are fighting a battle in to redistrict some congressional maps with both sides facing legal challenges. It's 806. Cinco de Mayo is the fourth drunkenest holiday in America. That's true. It's the fourth, yeah. The first three are St. Patrick's Day. So, thank you. What would be mean? Cinco de Mayo, really, if you think about it, it's a holiday for all of the people that were trying to keep out. Although a lot of people mistakenly think that it's Mexico's Independence Day. So remember to correct people if you want to be the most annoying guy at Happy Hour. It's a common mistake, actually. Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the day that French armies were defeated at the Battle of Puebla by drunk blonde girls and sombreros.

The Shockers have signed senior forward, Lily Baugh, sophomore power forward Lillianna Harrison, and senior forward Clara Kula Bali out of the transfer portal. Ba, an Overland Park, Kansas native, joins the Shockers after two seasons at Tulane, one at Louisiana. Harrison joins the Shockers after playing her freshman season at Delaware State. And Kulobali hailing from Montreal, Quebec, comes to the Shockers after two seasons at Gulf Coast State College and then one season at Auburns. We've got some new faces headed to the Wichita State Women's Basketball team. Royal starter Michael Waka needed only 79 pitches to get through seven innings, and Bobby Witt Jr. came up big in the fourth inning with a big home run, and the Royals get themselves a 6-2 win last night at Kaufman Stadium. The NHL Draft Lottery is happening today. With more on that, here's Fox's Jared Max. It's not Lakukaraja, but on this Cinco de Mayo, lottery balls will be dancing in the NHL. It's the annual draft lottery, live Tuesday from the NHL Network headquarters. In New Jersey, the draft lottery will determine which will be the first 16 teams to select in the upcoming draft. The 16 teams, those who did not qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs, or those who traded for first round picks with teams that missed the postseason. Because teams can move up a maximum of 10 draft spots in the lottery, only 11 teams will be included in the first lottery to determine the number one pick, then there will be a second lottery drawing. The Vancouver Canucks had the best chance, 18 and a half percent, to land the number one choice. Chicago Blackhawks had the second best chance with the New York Rangers third. Jared Max, Fox News. President Trump tells small business owners and reporters at the White House yesterday, he's looking forward to his visit to China in two weeks to meet with President Xi Jinping, but he insists the U.S. is in better shape and leading in the race to adopt artificial intelligence. We have friendly, we have very friendly competition. But it'll be, actually, it'll be a very important trip. The president has said he has a good relationship with Xi Jinping. He imposed a 10% tariff on all foreign goods after the Supreme Court struck down his Liberation Day tariffs back in February. U.S. warships and aircraft are helping guide commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Fox's Jared Halperin has more from the White House. Project Freedom is a defensive operation, CENTCOM commander. Admiral Brad Cooper says to protect commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. My operational assessment overall is that the U.S. military has the clear advantage. We have an enormous amount of capability in firepower. concentrated in and around the street. In the first day of the operation, CENTCOM says several small Iranian fastboats threatening commercial vessels were eliminated. The operation includes U.S. warships, dozens of land and sea-based aircraft, unmanned drones, and 15,000 service members. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News. Vice President JD Vance takes the Trump administration's economic policies on the road to Iowa today. Vice President JD Vance heads to Des Moines this afternoon, where we're told he'll make a stop at Ex-Guard Industries, maker of extreme duty grill guards for semi-trucks. The vice president's focus will include the administration's economic policies. The visit also to support fellow Republican, Iowa rep Zach Nunn, who represents the Des Moines area and who's seeking another term in Congress. President Trump also chose Iowa for his first stop on a midterm campaign swing earlier this year. The president won Iowa by D. double digits in the last presidential election. Jeff Monasso, Fox News. Vice President JD Vance was originally scheduled to appear at Iowa State University last week at a Turning Point USA event, which was canceled due to scheduling conflicts. The visit has been rescheduled for this fall. A 27-year-old man is dead after a shooting involving Wichita police responding to a possible mental health crisis. Officers and ICT mental health team were, were called to the 1,400 block of West Haskell after reports the man was suicidal and had access to firearms. Police say they found him sitting in a vehicle where a shot was fired from inside. An officer returned fire while taking cover. The man died at the scene, and it's not yet clear which gunshot was fatal. No officers were injured. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office is now leading the investigation.

A whale is reported dead in Grey's Harbor, Washington, Fort TV, Fox, rather TV affiliate, KCPQ, Fox 13 Seattle's Lauren Donovan reports from Ocean Shores. April brought a stunning number of strandings to Washington Shores, a record-breaking 16. And in April alone, four gray whales washed ashore here in Ocean Shores. It's notable that of that, three were discovered in the same short stretch of beach. According to scientists at the Cascadia Research Collective, we are in the midst of an unusually high mortality event. Not since 2019 have we documented this many dead. Before that, the previous record was 10 in 1999. Aberdean City Council member John Shaw has been working alongside research biologists to better understand this unprecedented cycle of death. Reporting in Ocean Shores, Lauren Donovan, Fox 13 News. Dolly Parton has canceled her Las Vegas shows as she works on improving her health. Dolly Parton is facing health issues and she shared a video with fans thanking them for their support and letting them know that she is canceling her upcoming September Las Vegas residency, which had been rescheduled from December of 2025 because of health issues. Good morning, Kirk. Good morning, John. Six acres of vacant land along the Oxford Vista campus in Midtown, Wichita, that's the former Kansas Masonic home property, are now on the market. Oxford Senior Living says exploring development options for the Seneca frontage that would complement its senior housing operation nearby. The site is currently zoned for multifamily there in the Delano District. Another major solar project is being proposed just south of Wichita, bringing a potential... $150 million investment to Sedgwick County. Overland Park-based TED renewables plans a utility scale solar farm covering about 1,360 acres with enough capacity to power roughly 130 megawatts. Project is headed to the County Planning Commission later this month, with construction targeted for late 27 and completion in 29, if approved. Developers say the project could generate millions in local tax revenue. A vote on a similar project was deferred last week by the Planning Commission because of concerns raised by residents. and a national aircraft cleaning company has landed in Wichita, setting up shop at Eisenhower National Airport. Real Clean Aircraft detailing Wichita is servicing everything from private planes to corporate jets. Franchise owner Chelsea Grove says the mobile business to business operation fills a gap in the Air Capitals aviation ecosystem. She plans to grow the local team as demand builds.
