Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee yesterday, and there were a few interesting exchanges about the war with Iran. The first one I want to get to is this back and forth between Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff. and Tulsi Gabbard. So the assessment of the intelligence community is that Iran's nuclear enrichment program was obliterated by last summer's airstrikes. Yes. In the opening statement you submitted to the committee last night also stated, quote, there has been no effort since then to try to rebuild their enrichment capability, end quote, correct? That's right. And that's the assessment of the intelligence community. Yes. Then there was this exchange between the two. Was it the assessment of the intelligence community that there was an imminent nuclear threat posed by the Iranian regime? Senator, the only person who can determine what is and is not an imminent threat is the president. It is not the intelligence community's responsibility to determine what is and is not an imminent threat. It is precisely your responsibility to determine what constitutes a threat to the United States. This is the worldwide threats hearing. where, as you noted in your opening testimony, quote, you represent the IC's assessment of threats. Yeah, the idea of the intelligence community doesn't offer some kind of an assessment as to how imminent a threat might be is just ridiculous. They absolutely do. And it's hard to make the case based on Tulsi Gabbard's testimony. She says... that the nuclear enrichment program was obliterated there was no effort to rebuild their capabilities since those airstrikes in operation midnight hammer how then do you get to the point where there was an imminent nuclear threat on the part of Iran. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense at all. The two things completely contradict each other. Yeah, it doesn't add up. So I think this raises more questions. Again, about the reason, or at least one of the main reasons that's been given for why we needed to conduct this operation right now. Now, I can make a case, and I have made the case on the air, what I think the real reason was behind the decision to go to war with Iran. But, you know, this line that we keep hearing and Senator Rick Scott.
reiterated it yesterday with you and read that there was an imminent threat from iran a nuclear threat and you know this idea that iran they keep saying death to america and all of that so the second they had a chance to use a nuclear weapon on our assets in the region our forces or the u.s mainland itself that they would do it well iran's been chanting death to america for decades there's no question they're a bad actor the question is the that we're being given from the administration that their nuclear program was an imminent threat, is that true? And we just haven't seen any evidence. In fact, Tulsi Gabbard's testimony is the opposite of that. Right. She's saying that we destroyed it. It was obliterated and they hadn't made any efforts to rebuild it. So how was it an imminent threat? Right. I just want the administration to be upfront on the reasons because we've had this in the past where... We've been lying to about this stuff. And I don't care who it is in office. I'm not taking the government's word for it. When it comes to something like this, we've been burned before in the past. It's a lesson that we should have learned by now.
