Now, a lot to get to, as I mentioned today, of course, the big talk nationally is the deal with Iran. You know, and I've always heard in situations like this, if you have both sides attacking an agreement, it's probably a pretty good agreement. But, of course, people are nitpicking it. I think there are some things that I would be leery of. And I think the skepticism from a lot of people comes from the fact that most Americans feel that this country cannot trust leadership in Iran. And I agree with him. I mean, we simply cannot trust him. Now, the president, during his news conference, following the G7 summit, he's on his way back to Washington. Think of the schedule this guy's been keeping. But he's on his way back to Washington. But before he left held the news conference, and he basically said, look. If they don't comply with this agreement and, you know, follow the steps that we have ironed out, we're going to drop bombs on their heads. I mean, you know, and that's the president's taking on all of this. Now, there are some who are saying, wait a minute, we're giving them money. We're not giving them money. That was explained by the president today. And we'll get into that. So there's a lot to get to with that. Mike Lee. Fighting for the Save America Act, which 80% of the American people believe is the right thing to do, including, I think, about 71% of Democrats. But John Thune basically came out and said today that there are some Republican senators, and I can think of two right now, John Cornyn and Bill Cassidy out of Louisiana, who hate the president so much. that they are not going to support the Save America Act. And apparently there was a meeting last night or yesterday, a luncheon with the Senate and members of the Senate. And apparently there were several senators who got after Utah Senator Mike Lee, who has been the driving force behind this and basically called them out on the carpet.

Well, apparently there's another man whose, I think his wife and maybe his mother, needed to use the restroom as well and called police on this father. Actually called police said, hey, there's a man in this women's restroom. What is he doing here? I mean, we'll get into that story and let you hear exactly what happened and get your opinion on whether or not this father, these two little girls. I mean, they aren't any older than five years old, would be my guess. You know, did not want to take them into the men's room. but accompanied them into the women's room, cleared it with the store and said, please, you know, don't let anybody in here will my little girls go to the bathroom. I'm a guy in a women's restroom, and I don't want to scare people who need to use it. I think he did the right thing. But this guy gets on the phone and actually calls police and says, hey, there's a man in the restroom. You need to come to arrest him. I mean, this is a bizarre story, and boy, is the guy who called the cops. being roasted on social media and we'll get into that as well and get your opinion so like i said a lot to get to today always great to have you along for the ride it is the rod and gregg show without mr hughes today taking a day off to celebrate his anniversary but it's good to be here with you and we want to hear from you today 888 5708010 or on your cell phone dial pound 250 and say hey rod all right I want to get in a little bit more as to what's going on with the Save America Act. As I mentioned earlier, Majority Leader John Thune admitted today that there are some Republicans who hate Donald Trump too much to support the Save America Act. John Thune apparently admitted today during a closed-door GOP luncheon that took place today that some Republican senators oppose the president so strongly. that they you know they're going to hold the Save America act against them and not vote for regardless of the legislative merits and it does i mean all of it how many of you out there actually disagree with this i mean you had Hillary yesterday and we played this audio sound by yesterday Hillary Clinton saying you know there are some people in rural America who don't know how to get an ID therefore this act is not fair she actually did say that Now today, do you hear what she said? She's now saying Joe Biden made a mistake in running for re-election, even though she endorsed him wholeheartedly back when he was running. But this whole Save America Act, apparently there was during this luncheon today, according to the Daily caller, they're reporting this today, that there was a heated exchange between Senator Lee and the bill's chief sponsor and several of his colleagues, including John Cornyn. Let's see, John Cornyn just lost his bid for re-election down in Texas, didn't he? And he didn't have the support of the president. John Thune also pushed, Leeds pushed for the legislation, according to people familiar with the meeting. Now, the majority leader office is denying that there was a heat exchange today. But these guys, if they're so against Donald Trump, it wouldn't surprise me if they're doing it. Of course, the president is behind it. The president said, you know that visa word, the visa bill that you want to extend security and government snoop operations? I'm not going to sign that until you pass Save America. The president is behind what Mike Lee is trying to do, and most Americans are behind what Mike Lee is trying to do.

Yet he's attacked by fellow Republicans during a meeting today. We're going to see how this all shakes out. Now, when we come back, the Fed, they hold their first meeting with a brand new Fed boss. What's the reaction to that? Later on, the story about the dad and the girls' bath, the women's bathroom, and also about Major League Baseball and their rainbows. Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, held his first meeting today talking about all kinds of economic issues. Walsh, who has vowed that the Fed will remain, as to his words, strictly independent, taking over, of course, from Jerome Powell. Now, what exactly happened today? What did he have to say? Let's get some analysis on that right now. Joining us on our any hour newsmaker line is Kurt Couchman. He is a senior fellow for fiscal policy at Americans for Prosperity. Give us your take on what happened and what the new Fed boss said today, Kurt. Well, not a whole lot changed. They're not planning to change the rates. And, well, actually, one thing that changed is that they are no longer expecting to reduce interest rates any time in the foreseeable future because we've got inflation that continues to be high. Yes, some of it is being driven by the energy shock that hopefully will dissipate if the Iran conflict is actually over. And if things stick and the oil flows again and all of that. But the truth is that the Fed is between a rock and a hard place. So with inflation and interest rates, they have to trade them off against each other. And that's because Congress put the Federal Reserve in a really tough spot by spending and borrowing way too much over the years, especially during the years when Nancy Pelosi was speaker. Kurt, talk about the challenges that Kevin Warsh faces now as the new Fed boss. What kind of challenges is he looking at? There are a couple. First, the Federal Reserve has a dual mandate where they're supposed to pursue maximum employment and also price stability, which means low inflation. Their target is 2%. The problem they have is that the Federal Reserve ended up buying a lot of a new debt that was created in the pandemic, and they would like to unload it. And they have done a little bit, but they can't do a whole lot more if there aren't willing buyers out in the marketplace.

So because of that, if they were to reduce interest rates, then banks would lend or take some of the money that they have in a reserve right now, lend it out. That would expand the money supplies, the money multiplier effect. And if that expands faster than the economy is growing, then we're going to have an uptick in inflation. So that's what they're trying to avoid. They're trying to keep both of those things as low as they both can be, the interest rates and the inflation, and they can't unload. the treasuries they hold right now because of the precarious debt burden financial situation that we're in as a country. Spend, spend, spend, spend. A real challenge for America right now. Kurt, what do you know about Kevin Warsh and what do you think he'll bring to the Fed? I don't know an enormous amount about him. Those that I know, that do know him, think he's a highly credible economist, that he really understands the nuts and bolts of how these things work. And certainly, you know, he has the president's confidence. They have a job to do. And so he has to balance all those things against each other. As far as interest rates are concerned, there is talk possibly of raising interest rates. Do you foresee that happening sometime this year? It's a possibility. Again, they're trying to keep inflation under wraps, and depending on what happens, they're going to change. They just always have to pivot based on what's coming out. Now, I mean, if Congress can cut a bunch of fraud and other nonsense spending and start increasing the fiscal space that everybody has to operate it, and then, yeah, I mean, maybe they could have cut interest rates because Congress would give them that breathing room. But they're just going to have to respond to whatever's coming their way with the macro economy and the fiscal situation and anything else. What impact, if in fact we do get a deal with Iran and the president said we have one now, we'll see how all of this pans out. Well, what if, in fact, we do get the Strait of Hormuz open? The economy starts settling down a little bit, not so heated. How does that change things, do you think, Kurt? If the Federal Reserve is able to reduce interest rates to keep the economy moving ahead and the economic growth strong without unleashing a bout of inflation, then I think they would like to do that. The Iran negotiated deal, which I haven't seen yet either. It sounds like it would largely return us to the pre-Iran war status quo, and that's okay. It was maybe not the best move that we've seen out of this administration, but it seems to be winding down, and that's relief for consumers. We really need to be focused on making the cost of living, the top priority for the country, because people are feeling in their pocketbooks, and, you know, that's just the number one issue.

Congress should be responding to that. Yeah. He has indicated, and I'm talking about Kevin Warsh, is that he's not going to be swayed by all the news. He thinks maybe we should keep things a little quieter when it comes to discussing the economy. Do you see that as well? Yeah, I mean, my sense is that he doesn't think he needs to be in the news all the time. I mean... The Federal Reserve has a job to do. They really do three things, right? They do monetary policy. They regulate financial institutions. And then they do a bunch of really good economic research. So it may be that he'll lean more into those missions rather than the spokesperson mantra that Jerome Powell seemed to be taking on a little bit. Although, you know, sometimes he was prodded into speaking out. Yeah. Well, we'll see what happens and see where it goes from here. Kurt, as always, enjoy a conversation. Many people are speculating probably will not go down maybe for the entire year with a possibility they could go up. I mean, that's some of the speculation. that you're hearing when it comes to this. So we'll have to see what happens with that. And we'll keep our eyeing up for you as well. All right. And then we'll talk about the case in Texas involving that teenager being sentenced to 35 years in prison for knifing to death another student. Apparently on Pride Night, a couple of players decided to wear the hat, of course, but they also wrote on their ball caps, biblical verses. And it's really storing up this whole debate about Pride Night and American sports teams getting involved in this. We'll talk about that coming up in the 5 o'clock hour. Also the story about a father and taking his little girls to a women's rep bathroom. I think it was in Alabama. And the controversy, this is all generated. We'll get into that as well. But right now, remember the story about Carmelo Anthony? This is the case in Texas. where Anthony was convicted of first-degree murder for killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet. And once the verdict was handed down, and once the sentence was announced, of course, here you have the perpetual racism churches being leveled against this country. And joining us on our newsmaker line to talk more about that is Zachary Faria. He is a commentary fellow at the Washington Examiner. Zachary, how are you? Welcome back to the Rod and Greg Show. Thanks for joining us.

Sound good. Thanks for having me. Zachary, talk about this case and your thoughts on it is you see the case, you hear the trial, you hear the evidence, you see everything that went down and then reaction to it and reaction to the guilty verdict. What are some of your initial thoughts? Well, my initial thought when I first heard about the case going way back to when it happened was that it seemed pretty straightforward, because if it did not seem straightforward, I'm sure we would have got video, we would have got riots, we've got all of these things that come with something like this. So it seemed like a pretty straightforward case, and sure enough, throughout the trial, it was a pretty straightforward case, and Carmelo Anthony was ultimately convicted. The reaction has been... odd to me, but in a way I understand where it comes from. We came out of the 2020 Black Lives Matter summer with this idea that black Americans should be segregated socially from their fellow Americans. And that came from people like Jasmine Crockett, who's one of the people coming out and promoting this idea that Austin Metcalfe, the victim in the scenario was the perpetrator. The aggressor. Yeah, it came out like that. The mere fact, Zachary, that I think the jury only took a couple of hours to come down with a verdict was pretty amazing. I mean, that's an indication that they saw the case fairly clearly had the facts and made the right decision. Yeah, and there's really nothing that's come out of this trial that indicated any sort of question about what happened here, which makes it all the more alarming that people like Jasmine Crockett, like Angela Rye, who used to be on CNN and on ESPN, have come out and fabricated this scenario where Austin Metcalf is the avatar of white supremacy who was intentionally being aggressive towards Carmelo Anthony. There was no indication that any of this happened. None of the witnesses would vouch for any of this. This was a pretty straightforward case where Carmelo Anthony brought a knife to a high school track meet for some reason and decided to get aggressive with Austin Metcalf when he was in a place that he didn't belong. In cases like this, Zachary, are we ever going to get past the perpetual victimhood and the racial tribalism in this country? Are we ever going to be able to get past it? I sure hope so. The good news I would say was if this case happened in, say, 2021 after the George Floyd thing, I think you would definitely see more people picking up Jasmine Crockett's flag here on what she's trying to claim. The fact that it's been muted to corners of Democratic media, Angela Rye is not a big media personality anymore. Jasmine Crockett is no longer going to be in Congress by this time next year. I think that we've made progress here. That's why I think it's so important to continue to call out this kind of behavior where people try to create a racial division where none exists because we are closer to eliminating it than we were just a few years ago right after the Black Lives Matter summer of 2020. In cases like this, and it was a pretty clear-cut case with all the evidence and the fact that were presented, I got to thinking what exactly do some within the African-American community in this country want out of cases like this? What do you think they want?

Well, I think for the most part, the African-American community in the United States got what they wanted in this case, which would be justice. I tend to think that most black Americans actually agree with justice in this case. I think the problem is you have people like Jasmine Crockett, you have these activists, these people that show up kind of at the courthouse just to be agitators and activists. They're the kind of people that try to claim they speak for black Americans. And they go around saying things like black Americans should be living. by their own set of rules that the justice system sets out to get them unfairly. And I think what they're trying to do is trying to create that racial divide to generate more political power. Like Jasmine Crockett has done, that has been her whole time in Congress, is trying to create racial divide to get black of voters to back her in Texas. You know what I thought was interesting on this, Zach Green. I'd like your thoughts on this. Of course, we know what happened after George Floyd back in, I think it was May of 2020. And we had the country on fire over all of this. You didn't see a national outbreak of violence that I recall. following this verdict in the Carmelo Anthony case. Why not? What do you think has happened? Um, I think definitely part of it was the moment, the fact that the Black Lives Matter stuff also took place during COVID and people were just looking for an excuse to do something. That definitely played a factor in it. But there's also the fact that you have Democratic politicians who run a city like Minneapolis who are willing to coddle rioters and who are willing to encourage them to go out onto the streets into protests that eventually devolve into riots. In Texas, you're not going to have that. And also, because this case, again, was way more straightforward than what happened with George Floyd. Obviously, the officers that killed George Floyd were convicted, but that case was a little more controversial than this one. This one was very straightforward. And I think what you would have seen, if this situation was reversed, if Austin Metcalf had been the aggressor who had stabbed and killed Carmelo Anthony, there would be riots all across the country because Democratic politicians like Jasmine Crockett would be the one stoking it. Different story, that's for sure. Zachary, as always, great having you on the show. Thanks for a few minutes of your time today. Of course. Thanks for having me. All right, Zachary Faria. He is a commentary fellow at the Washington Examiner talking about victimhood and racial tribalism in the Anthony case down there in Texas. Apparently, Major League Baseball has threatened to find members of the San Francisco Giants who during Pride Night... A couple of nights ago, they were, you know, they were wearing the pride hats with their insignia in the rainbow colors. And in their own handwriting, they wrote on the hats a biblical reference. And Major League Baseball now is going after them. The alphabet people are going after them. But, you know, ERA pointed this out. I forgot about this.

That just, what was it last week? Two weeks ago, whenever at Dodger Stadium, they had Pride Night at Dodger Stadium, and there were members of the team who refused to wear the Pride caps they wore the Dodger hat. They weren't punished at all. Now, they didn't write anything on the cabs, but they weren't punished at all. But apparently these players who decided to put a biblical reference on their cap, it could be fine, and we'll dig into that. Plus, we'll tell you about the story about this Oklahoma Dad. He had the cops called on him for taking his two young daughters into a women's restroom. That's right. You heard me right. This is an unbelievable story. We've got some audio from this. We'll want you to hear as well. But it's pretty amazing. And we'll get into that in the 5 o'clock hour. A couple of things that I do want to mention before we go to our break at the top of the hour. American workers, you know, the president, I think his biggest achievement. during his second term in office has been what has happened down on the border. Illegal border crossings are way down. The wall is being built. It's coming right along. Probably not at the pace he would like to see. But the wall is being built. And there has been a real change in the impact that illegal immigrants have had on this country. Thanks to Donald Trump. And as he said during his address to Congress, we don't need any new laws. We just need a new president. We got one. And look at the changes that have taken place. But, you know, as someone said, you know who said this, you know, it's the economy stupid. When it comes to immigration, it is the economy stupid. Key among the benefits of illegal immigration slowing down for American workers is that housing costs were inflated by the presence of illegal aliens. They're now starting to moderate. And wages being paid to those within the service industries, and like within housing, within construction, are starting to trickle up again. because there aren't as many illegal workers willing to work for less in this country than there were under the Biden administration. It was analysis that was in the Wall Street Journal today, written by a man by the name of James Carter. Carter is a former deputy assistant treasurer. And he basically says, look at American workers are now winning. American workers are winning because of a slowdown in illegal immigration. And I think that's a real plus for the president as well. So you may want to get a hold of that article in the Wall Street Journal today talking about American workers and how they're benefiting now from our crackdown on illegal immigration that we've seen in this country. Coming out, number one, Provo, Utah. That's right, Provo, Utah. The folks who put this, Wallet Hub is a, it's kind of like a daily survey, and they ask all kinds of questions and rank all kinds of things. But they were out today, and here's what the editor of Wallet Hub had to say. He said, Provo, Utah is the best run city, and the reasons for that are that the city is experiencing business growth. around 3.1% along with a high school graduation rate of nearly 91%. He went on to say that Provo is also a city that is safe. It has the seventh lowest violent crime rate and the eighth lowest property crime rate in the country. Two top things off, Provo has relatively short average commute times. You can ask people in Provo if they agree with that. Other cities that came out on top. Number two was Napa, Idaho. Number three, Manchester, New Hampshire. Number four, Boise, Idaho. And then two towns, the worst in America. Bottom five is best-run cities. Chicago, Oakland, New York, Detroit, and San Francisco. all run by Democratic mayors. So congratulations today to the city of Provo being recognized as one of the best, if not the best run city in America today. All right, our number two coming up. We've got a couple of very interesting stories to talk to you about today. We'll talk about Major League Baseball and its criticism of some players who decided during Pride Night that they would write a biblical verse on their ball cab. a U.S. Senator is now threatening to call Major League Baseball before a Senate hearing to explain why they're attacking these players. We'll talk about that. And the story of a dad who wanted to take his little girls to the bathroom. They needed to go. And he took them to a women's restroom. And he was called out by another man who called police and wanted them to come by and maybe even arrest him. It's an amazing story. And we'll let you hear that as well and get your reaction. I think you'll enjoy this hour and want to comment on. First of all, let's talk about Major League Baseball. Major League Baseball, as of yesterday, I think it was, were warning some Major League players. There were three San Francisco giant players, baseball players, that they could be fined for refusing to bend the knee, so to speak, to Pride Night. Well, what exactly? What exactly did these players do? They wore the pride cap. But they also, handwritten.

wrote by hand on their ball cabs biblical verses. And the biblical verses refers to rainbows. And in the Bible, after the rain stopped, Noah, as many of you know the story, God told Noah with a rainbow that he would never flood the earth again. And that's what these players were talking about. They were basically saying, hey, you believe the rainbow represents pride in the gay community, the gay lifestyle that you live and have overcome challenges. We believe, and through these messages, that to us, Rainbow isn't a symbol of pride night or the pride events taking around the country, but a reference to God in the Bible. Major League Baseball did not like that. As a matter of fact, they had threatened to find these players. Now, that hasn't happened yet. There's already a senators that... ready to call Major League Baseball before a Senate committee on this. But let's get more reaction to this. Joining us on our any hour newsmaker line is Stacey Matthews right now. Stacey, a good friend of the show. She's a columnist and contributor at Red State. Stacey, thanks for joining us tonight. Tell us your reaction to what went on here with baseball and what you see taking place. Well, Rod, first, it's good to be on your show. Appreciate it. I think what's going on here is... Of course, for anybody who doesn't know, there were three San Francisco Giants baseball players last Friday who decided on Pride night that they were going to add a little something extra to their hats that were rainbow themed. They put Genesis Bible verses on their hat, which, you know, is anybody who is familiar with the Bible knows what that means. And the Major League Baseball issued a warning to them a couple of days later because apparently there was some outrage. They were seemingly rejecting side night. And this resulted in Josh Hawley, who was on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to write a letter to Major League Baseball demanding answers as to why they did this and basically threatening to haul them up before the Senate Judiciary Committee for a little love fest. Well, I heard, I love fest. I like that, Stacey. Josh, Josh Hawley, I heard him in an interview today said, look, Major League Baseball has an antitrust exemption. They want to play around. We can play around with that. That is probably not something Major League Baseball wants to hear. You know what? It sucks to be bored. They don't. And, you know, MLB has been on Holly's radar for a long time. He introduced legislation along with, I think, Ted Cruz and Senator Mike Lee in Utah. I believe he introduced legislation in 2021 after the Major League Baseball League. They took the game, the All-Star game out of Georgia over the election reforms law that they passed and signed into law. That's when Joe Biden and... Stacey Abrams were claiming the election reforms bill was like Jim Crow 2.0. So Holly went after them, after that, and introduced legislation to try to revoke their exemption from the anti-trust law. And it didn't go anywhere. They tried it again in 2023. It's just one of those things where I think at this point, Holly may be aware that he may not be able to get much traction on an actual bill, but the public embarrassment that the MLB would face at a... congressional hearing would probably be something they don't want to deal with, especially right now with us being in the middle of the America 250 celebrations and with baseball being considered as American as apple pie. This is not something that the Major League Baseball wants to be going through right now. Stacey, what do you make of the comments by the players who did this to their caps? I heard one of them say, look, I'm not against Pride Night or against the K community. I just wanted to share my thoughts on what the rainbow needs to me. What is wrong with that? There's nothing wrong with it except in the eyes of the Alphabet Mafia and their supporters, Rod. You know, I mean, it's basically, and La Cale said this isn't the first time they've been caught discriminating against players for expressing religious belief. But it's also hypocritical for the Major League Baseball for the league to go after these players because they have made exemptions to their handwritten rule and their... the rule about not affixing messages to your uniform. They made it during the Black Lives Matter protest back in after the George Ford riot started. And all the players were kneeling and expressing their solidarity with BLM and all that stuff. So they did. They made, and as Josh Hawley pointed out, they made special exemptions in their rule just to cater to the segment of the major league baseball players who wanted to express their opinions about what was going on. Stacey, I can think of only one of the major leagues. I think it's the NHL that has kind of walked away from all of this stuff, these Pride nights and Pride practice jerseys. But you have the NFL, the NBA, now Major League Baseball, getting involved in this. To me, it doesn't serve these organizations or these leagues well because there are a lot of people who simply cannot get along with Pride Month. Why do they get into this? Well, they got into it, again, because of the alphabet mafia and for the desire to be politically correct. We, and here in North Carolina, we've dealt with it for many years. We were one of the early states who started the push for bathroom bills, what they called bathroom bills, which, you know, protected women in the bathrooms from people who pretended to be women from going into the women's bathroom. We dealt with this. They went after the NBA All-Star game that was supposed to be played here in Charlotte. over that bill. So we are kind of veterans when it comes to dealing with the Alphabet Mafia. But that's what happens. You get these groups who have backings from mega donors and the like to basically force people to either conform or be punished. And these players should be held up as an example. They didn't express hate. They put Bible verses on a hat. That's not expressing hate in anybody's rulebook, but the Alphabet Mafia and the Woke Mob.

They're threatening fines. I don't know if any have been issued yet. Do you think the Major League Baseball will carry through and find these players? Are they just going to try and quietly slip away from this? Because I think a lot of people are saying, come on, Major League Baseball, you're better than this. Yeah, I don't think that they will, only in part because of Holly's implied threat. But also, again, because, you know, Rob, you know, we're going through America 250 celebrations right now. A baseball is about as American as it comes. And do you really think that America wants that MLB wants to be viewed as the team that the league that levied fines against baseball players for expressing their Christian beliefs? I mean, and think about it, they didn't even, you know, go out onto the field and give a speech. They just wrote Bible verse numbers on their hats. That's all they did. You know, they didn't make a big production out of it. That's all they did. Now, if it said Black Lives Matter or something woke like that, that they would have been cheered and applauded. But because they had a Christian message, they were, you know, given a warning by Major League Baseball, which is kind of funny. Because after, you know, the outrage to the outrage, which the outrage to the outrage was that people were pushing back on Major League Baseball, they issued a revised statement that, oh, we just want to make clear that the reason we warn the players was not because we disagreed with the message. It was just because we have a standing rule about handwritten messages or messages that are affixed. in some way to their uniform. Does anybody really believe that? Absolutely not. Stacey, thanks for joining us. Stacey from Red State. By the way, here's what Senator Josh Hawley said today on the Clay and Buck Show about Major League Baseball and the whole pride issue. What would you encourage other Major League baseball players to do who might feel similarly to you? Well, you know, as a person of faith, I've got to encourage people out there who share that faith to follow it. And this is why I admire. what these individuals did on the Giants. You know, I mean, they were trying to follow, I think, what they were told to do. You know, they're trying to be good team players. You're really putting them in a terrible position, right? Because you're trying to leverage their own team against them. So the league ought to be saluting them for that. They ought to say, you know what? Good for you, good for you guys. Good for you. Good for you. But instead, they're treating them like villains. They're treating them like criminals. And I just think that that's wrong. Clay, I think it's right. I think we ought to say to these guys, good for you for trying to be team players. Good for you for expressing your faith. We ought to encourage people to do that. That's a good thing. Again, God and country, this is the United States of America, for heaven's sake. And we ought to say the baseball, knock it off. I mean, knock it off with all the political messaging and quit treating people of faith like their pariahs. That's like most of your audience. Maybe you're the dad with your little daughter, you know, your wife's not traveling with you. And she really has to go. Dad, I got to go. We all heard that, right? And you go into the store. and you find that the men's room is either locked or you don't want to take her in there because men's rooms have urinals and, you know, guys kind of expose himself to be able to go to the bathroom a little bit. You don't want that to happen. So you as a father make the choice to take her into the women's room. There's nobody in there, and you ask the store, can I go in there? I've just got to take her to the bathroom. Well, that happened to a young man by the name of Tyler Brodsky on his way back to Oklahoma from Florida. And he did this with his two little girls, okay? Like he said, I'd rather bring two little girls into a men's bathroom full of grown men and dirty stalls. He didn't want to do that. So he took her into the women's room. Well, apparently the situation escalated. When another customer confronted him after his wife and very ill mother-in-law reported that a man was inside the women's restroom. That's when he decided to call the cops. I'm standing in the doorway of the ladies' bathroom. Okay? My wife, there is a man with his two little girls using the women's bathroom. He's washed her hands, baby. He is. He's washing his hands with his daughters right now. He is leaving it. It's all right, baby.

waiting to use the restroom with her mother who is very ill. Wash your hands. And who is on oxygen. It's okay. Someone are not just immature. And he's refusing to take it this week time. I have two girls washing their hands. You let this lady, this woman, she's a woman. She can bring your daughters in here. She's a manager to QT. I'm their dad. You can ask her. I understand. And you don't have any business with her in the widow's bathroom. They're girls. They go to the women's bathroom. As soon as he lives in the woman's bathroom, my widow, I'm standing in the doorway. This is all sweet time. This is ridiculous, man. I am surprised. That's okay, I'm just... Thank you. Now, if you want to see that video, it's up on our X page. There was the store manager inside the restroom with that father, actually helping the father, handing the little girl some towels. But this guy was so upset because his wife and his aging ill mother-in-law could not use the women's room because the father was in there. He would have been out in just a couple of minutes. But this man was so irritated, he decided to get on the phone and call the cops. Well, they went out into the store, leaving the bathroom. And again, they had yet another conversation about this. And the cops did come by. They were by there very, very quickly. And they asked Tyler Brodsky, who was the father of these little girls, what he did. And he explained it. And the cops totally understood this. Now, the guy who brought this up and who called the cops, his name was Robert Buckner, I believe it is. I think that's right. Robert Buckner. Well, there's a website out there that decided to track this guy down. And apparently he's a real estate agent, somewhere, I think, in Stillwater, something like that. And this guy is now being raked over the coals for what he did to this young father and his two little girls, my guess probably five and two, maybe three. and you're just going this man did not have to call the cops there's a better situation better way to handle this but this guy was being pardon my french and ass for getting on the phone and for calling the cops on a father who is just trying to help his little girls in the bathroom Hey everybody, Lady Luck here, and we're celebrating America's 250th birthday. He just explained, you know, my little girl's got to go to the bathroom. They're washing their hands. You know, and they got out of there. But this guy wouldn't accept it. And he wanted the cops to come in and either arrest this guy or charge him with something. I'm not sure what they'd charge him with. Give him a ticket. So here you have this young father trying to help out his little girls who needed to go to the bathroom. And if you've ever browned little kids who need to go the bathroom, you know it's urgent with them. They can't hold their water for very long. And then you have this man who has his wife and his ailing mother-in-law who's in a wheelchair who needs to use the bathroom as well. And he's offended that a man would be in this bathroom. And he was leaving. So who is in the right here? The father? who took care of his little girls as best as he possibly could. He didn't want to take him into a men's room. Or the man saying, wait a minute here. What are you doing in here? I got to, you know, my wife, my mother, they got to get in here, go to the bathroom. What the hell are you doing in here? Who's in the right?

His two little girls needed to go to the bathroom. and he pulled into a convenience store truck stop type thing. And instead of taking the girls to the men's room, he decided to go into the women's room with the little girls. Well, that upset another customer who wanted to use it as well. But I have a grandma, or I am a grandma of a little boy. And I know that I had taken them into the women's room before because little boys, little girls, you know, and I totally understand this dad. He was taking care of his girls the best way he knew how. And in theory, this gentleman. I hesitate to call him that because I like what you said about him. He's an ass. I have other words. But, you know, in theory, he's a dad. In theory, he's a grandpa. And why could he not give this young man just that 30 seconds or one minute of grace to take care of his tiny girls? You know, he could have simply... Because little people are so important. Yeah, he could have asked the father, how long are you going to be? You're going to be out of here in a minute? I need to use it to. Are you going to be out? Instead, he calls the cops, and you can hear him. If you've seen that video or heard that audio, he's calling the cops on this poor guy. This poor father who's got two little kids trying to go to the bathroom. Well, my little boy, the one who's 35 now, he's a cop in Salt Lake. I think the old man should be charged with misuse of 911. That's a good point. Thank you, Leslie. That's a very good point. I mean, come on. And this guy, as I mentioned, the video's up on our website, our X page, if you want to take a look at it. That bathroom situation with those two people, that is the confluence of a paradox. Both people were right and both people were wrong. If you want to boil it down to the purest sense, you have to look at it that way. But again, it was the perfect storm. And each individual had the right to act the way they did. Well, thank you for your comment. First of all, I think the father of the little girls acted appropriate. He didn't get upset. He could have gone after this guy. He didn't get upset. He said, look, I've got little girls. They need to go to the bathroom. They're washing their hands. Don't we want all our kids to wash their hands after going to the bathroom? But this guy, you know, accuses him, well, he's taking his time. He's not trying to get out of here. He could have simply asked the father, how much longer are you going to be? Because my wife and my alien mother-in-law in a wheelchair. needs to go to the bathroom as well. So how much longer are you going to be? That didn't happen. There was no reason for him to get on the phone and call police. Here's another one of our talkback comments. Hey, Rod, this is Nate. Hey, letting you know, I don't think you needed to say the word part of my French there. I think that guy was an ass and I would add an additional word to the end of that phrase. What a jerk. Yeah. He certainly is a jerk. That's for sure. And, you know, and he's paying the price for it. I mean, apparently he's got a website. I think he's a realtor down in Stillwater, Oklahoma. And because this thing has gone national and on social media, people are just going after this guy. As a matter of fact, I think they had to shut down a couple of the pages he has just because he's being really attacked. And he just didn't need to do this. There are better ways around it, but apparently he did not see one. All right, let's go to another call. talking about a number of issues, including Major League Baseball and Pride Night. Here's another comment. Hey, Rod. So here's my thought about the whole baseball thing. So let's say commissioners brought before the Senate and it opens up. the whole idea of not forcing political views within sports, which needs to happen. How will that impact the other sports? NFL, NBA, NHL, things like that. Boy, I'm with you on that. I mean, in my opinion, sports, we come to you, sports can be a... A unifying factor in all of us. I mean, look how the country responded. I know there aren't a lot of soccer fans, but there are soccer fans out there. You know, it's now what I think, third-ranked sport in America today. But how that win last week and everybody looking forward to the game, what is it, Friday afternoon against Austria, how that brought people together. And sports does bring people together. We can debate over which team is the best team, but it brings us together in one unifying effort. That is why I just do not think that sports franchises need to get into any political or cultural issue. The country is sharply divided over so many issues. Why get involved in it? Why not just say, hey, right, left, middle, upside down, I don't care where you belong or where you sit on the political or cultural spectrum? We want you to come to the ballpark. Watch some amazing athletes do their thing and be entertained.

So maybe for a couple of hours, you can simply forget the cares of the world and enjoy a good sporting event. But for some reason, they've all been pulled into this. Now, as I recall, the NHL has been the only one who's kind of backed off on this. And one of the reasons why is some of their best players are from Europe, European countries, who do not put up with this. And they won't wear the jerseys or they won't wear an insignia on their helmets. They won't do that. So the NHL is backed away from this. But I think, you know, you still have the NFL and they have the signs at the end of the end zones and on the back of the helmets. You know, you have the NBA, which has really gone totally woke. And that's why I think their numbers are done, even though the last finals has some pretty good numbers, primarily because the Knicks were in it, a major metropolitan area. But I think people are going to sporting events just to enjoy the game. Why do we have to be reminded of these cultural or political divides that exist in this country? And three of the players wore the hats, but they also took a Bible verse and had it handwritten on their hats. And the Bible verse was about rainbows. and their thoughts when it comes to rainbows. They were referring to rainbows in the Bible. And what God said about rainbows and flooding the earth, which he said he would never do again. And we're also talking about this dad in Oklahoma, who was left with a very difficult situation. So there was a major league player a couple years ago. Can't remember which one, but he refused to wear a pride jersey that had the rainbow on the number on his jersey. He refused to wear it. You got heat for it, but never got fined whatsoever. So why they're giving these three guys issues makes no sense to me. Yeah, it makes no sense to me either. And as he re, let me know during one of the breaks that, you know, What a week or two ago, the Dodgers were having Pride Night. And there were players on the Dodgers. They didn't want to wear the Pride cap. They wore the Dodger hat. They didn't get any heat for this. Back to our talkback line. So if the bathroom stalls have been completely full, whether it be boys or girls, would the guy still get upset and call the cops? That's where it makes no sense. Yeah, it does make sense. And there was such a better way to resolve this. I mean, put yourself in your situation. You can see a young father, and my guess he's, you know, somewhere in his 20s, late 20s maybe. Two little girls, probably five and two or five and three. They need to go to the bathroom. Daddy, I need to go there. How many times of you as parents run into this? You know, and their little bladders can't last very long. And they're bouncing around. I got to get the bathroom. And you as a father, you didn't want to take your little girls into a men's room. So you said, okay, I'm going to take her into the women's room. Make sure nobody's in there. And I even think he asked the store to kind of look out for him so people wouldn't come in and be upset. But apparently this other man who with his wife and his mother-in-law. who is in a wheelchair, needed to use the restroom. And when he saw him in there, he decides, I don't know if there was a conversation before this, the video that we see, we don't see any conversation before this. You see video and you can see it on our X page. Just go to X and look for Rod and Greg's show. And this man is standing in the doorway, calling cops and saying, look, there's a man in the women's restroom. And my wife and mother-in-law have got to use it. And he accused him of dragging his feet because the little girls, the father was doing the right thing, making sure his little girls wash their hands before they left. And then he goes out into the store itself. The guy is still on the phone with the cops. Now, this young father played it, I think, very, very cool, wise on his part. Could have just went off on that older gentleman. But he didn't. He remained calm. And he left, and then I guess later on he posted video again, I think the next morning of himself talking about his confrontation with police and police game. He had a conversation with him. They basically said, sir, you did nothing wrong. There's nothing we're going to get after you for. So just another example sometimes of stepping back and counting to 10 before you say or do anything and avoid an overreaction like I think this man was. Sure, you know, he's protecting his mother-in-law who, you know, in a wheelchair need to go to the bathroom as well. And older people sometimes have trouble controlling their bladder. But he didn't need to go off on this spot.

During Pride Night in a game against the Cubs, they were wearing the hats that the team asked them to wear, recognizing Pride Night. And they did. But they also wrote, in their own handwriting on the hats, a biblical reference about rainbows. and their belief from what a rainbow signifies, different from what a rainbow signifies today to many, many people in this country. And Major League Baseball, very upset with that, threatened to find them, but now there's a lot of pushback on this. Now, I want to let you hear from a player in Major League Baseball. He is a pitcher, I believe, with Arizona. His name is Ryan Thompson. And he explains and defends the players for what they did. Here's what he had to say. A lot of the hate comes from perceived negativity and without getting too off track, but like the Pride Night stuff with the Giants. Like. I think that there's a perceived negativity with this stuff of like, okay, Landon Rout wrote a verse on his hat. That means that he's anti-something. That doesn't mean that, right? It means that he's pro-something, right? So the rainbow means something to him. It means that he believes in the Noahic covenant being something that's special to us as Christians, right? That means that no matter how bad we possibly could be, no matter how much we reject God, that he will never again flood the earth. That's really cool. That's really special. And we do a lot of stuff. We're all sinful. We all do a lot of stuff that may be worthy of a flooding. But God will never flood us because of that promise and his promises are unconditional. So that's something that's really cool to me is that there's nothing negative. There's nothing anti. There's nothing that says that he doesn't support anything or that he's like hateful or anything like that at all. It's all positive. It's all like, man, this is what the rainbow means to me. And I just thought that was really cool that he did that. And I think it was cool, too. It was self-expression. There's nothing wrong with doing that. But apparently, Major League Baseball says, don't you dare. Now, comedian Rob Schneider. You may remember Rob Schneider. This was from the Adam Sandler movie. You can do it.

Yeah, that guy, right? Well, he was on the Laura Ingram show last night, saying if they're fined, he'll step and pay for the fine. You know, they're all for a diversity, equity, and inclusion. Unless you have a diversity of opinion, then you're not included in your opinion. So, I mean, baseball players signed up to play baseball. What part of their contract said, oh, you also have to promote our leftist ideology that may be against your religious beliefs? Yeah, I mean, you know, now what's going to be, I think going to be very, very interesting in all of this is Major League Baseball right away comes out and said, you can't do that. And we're going to find you. Well, now they're seeing how the public is reacting to this, including. Major League baseball players. I'm surprised more having stepped up. I mean, that's the fear that people have anymore, unfortunately, for expressing their opinion. You just heard a pitcher with Arizona, share his opinion, and explain why the players did this. Totally justified. Don't have an argument with that at all. But, you know, and I expressed this earlier, I wish all major league sports. from hockey to baseball to basketball to football to whatever league exists out there would just get out of politics and get out of cultural efforts why on earth did they do this and the two you know i thought for a while major league baseball would stay away from this and they did for a little while but it then caught up to him He had the NBA and the NFL get into this right away. And then Major League Baseball has jumped in on this. Hockey tried it, but the NHL backed away and said, we aren't doing this anymore. I mean, the question is going to be, what is baseball really going to do on all of this? If anything. My guess is, and Josh Hawley, you heard we played an audio soundbite from him. He was on with Clay and Buck today. Now, baseball gets an antitrust exemption. I think they're the only major sports league that gets that exemption because, you know, they're kind of America's pastime, or we used to think they were. But Josh Hawley says, you know, they keep this up. You know, and I believe he is chairman of this committee. But he says, I may just call Major League Baseball in front of my committee and explain why they're doing this. because players who objected to this didn't write anything on their hats like those at the a dodger game didn't get punished they didn't wear the pride hat they wore the team's hat with the dodger logo on it and they they didn't get punished they didn't get threatened with a fine so apparently because these players decided to put faith on their hat they're going to be punished for it This America's pastime, folks. What on earth is Major League Baseball doing? And the other story we're talking about tonight is this father from Oklahoma, I believe, on his way back from Florida.

And from what he says here, in one of the videos he said he had only 45 days with his girls, and he wants to spend every minute with them, which leads me to believe he may be a divorced dad. And his wife lives in Florida. He lives in Oklahoma. He had to travel to Florida to get his girls to spend part of the summer with him. But he's driving through Alabama. He noticed a convenience store. And his little girls are saying, you know, Daddy, I got to go to the bathroom. And he pulls over. doesn't want to take them into the men's room. And it says, apparently checks with the store and says, hey, would you check this? Okay, if I go into the restroom, the women's restroom right now, so my little girls can go to the bathroom. And he takes them in there. Well, this other man comes in, notices that he's in the women's bathroom and decides to call the cops. Because this man who's calling the cops. His wife and his mother-in-law need to use the restroom as well. So instead of saying, hey, Got a few minutes or how much longer are you going to be? We're kind of in the need for it as well. How long are you going to be? No, he gets on the phone and calls the cops. By the way, you can see that video. It's up on our X page. If you just go to and search for at Rod and Greg Show and you'll be able to see it on the X page. And you tell me who was in the right here. I don't think the father of the little girls did anything wrong. I think he did everything right. He checked in with the store. even had the store manager inside the bathroom with his girls, you know, to make sure and to let people know, wait a minute, man's in your restroom, don't come in here, ladies, for a second. But this jerk of a man calls the cops on this young father. And kudos to that young father, because I'd tell you what, he kept his cool. And now this guy who called the cops, his name, by the way, is Robert Buckner. Apparently, I think he's worked for a real estate agency there in Florida or in Oklahoma. and there's one guy in the internet who decided to track him down and he tracked him down and he tracked him down and he gave out his information to people who were on this guy's postings media post social media post and people are just going after this guy and they should i mean he it could have been handled so differently And this is why a little patient sometimes goes a very, very long way. And this guy, he's not going to be embarrassed by this. He's one of those people, I don't care. You know, I'm protecting my wife, my mother-in-law. We totally get that. But I think it could have been handled so differently. And be an adult.

And this father was, help his little girls. He's asking him wash her hands. He's not confronting the man and say, hey, get off the phone. Don't call police on me. He didn't do that. He just said, hey, look, my little girls need to go to the bathroom. I didn't want to take him into the men's room. I checked with the store. And the cops, by the way, did come and question him. And they said, sir, we're sorry. You didn't do anything wrong. You're fine. Could have been handled so differently. Your calls and comments. And the whole story has gone viral. Let's go to the phones. Get your reaction to that. We begin in Salt Lake City with Becky tonight here in The Rod and Greg Show. Becky, how are you? And thanks so much for joining us. I'm good. Thank you. I'm kind of joining this discussion a little bit late, so I don't know the ages of the girls. I don't know what the status of the... Yeah, Becky, my guess is they're probably five and two, maybe five and three somewhere. They were young little girls, okay? Okay. Okay. Yeah. And really, the age doesn't matter so much. But I also don't know the situation with the restrooms, where they like multiple stalls or was it like a single one? I don't know. But anyway, my point is that maybe he just didn't want to have a discussion if he would take them into a men's restroom and he would have to then explain the urinal situation. I just think that's... You know, he maybe didn't want to go there. Yeah, yeah, I think you're right. I mean, you know, he, he was a little worried and he said this, that they're, you know, men's rooms are tend to be a little dirty and, yes, you do have urinals. And maybe he didn't want to explain that to his little girls. Like I said, my guess is there maybe two or three, maybe five? The oldest buddy was teaching me. They had to go. And you moms and dads know what it's like out there. When your little ones had to go, you better get them somewhere really fast. All right. Let's go to our talkback line. Here's what one listener has to add to the conversation. So if the bathroom stalls have been completely full, whether it be boys or girls, would the guy still get upset and call the cops? That's where it makes no sense.

Yeah, it does make any sense. And from the tone of this guy, have you ever run into anybody who you just look at? And sometimes they're just looking for a fight or they're looking for a confrontation. Now, on the other side, now, I've always said there are two sides to a pancake. Okay. So let's look at the guy who called the cops and his side. First of all, he didn't need to call the cops. Okay, I get that. But his wife and his elderly mother-law, who was in a wheelchair. maybe she really needed to go as well. And, you know, so he comes in, he wants to, you know, she's in a hurry. You know, she's got to go to the bathroom and he finds out there's a dad in there with his two little girls. And he said, hey, what gives here? And he had a right to say something, to say something to this father and to say, do you really need to be here or how much long are you going to be? I got to get here and get going. Can you leave? You know, the store manager was in there. But if you're a parent, You know, you are not going to say, hey, I'm a man. I do not want to go into the women's restroom. Would you take my two little girls into the restroom so they could go to the bathroom? And I'll be right outside the door. Now, it's unfortunate that in this world today in which we live, we don't trust anybody, especially when it comes to our children. You know, unless you really know somebody. and, you know, understand who they are. Maybe a family relative or a neighbor you could trust. To strangers, when it comes to kids, not going to happen. So, you know, this guy, you know, there's no way this father, young father, was going to ask the store manager who he didn't know from Adam or Eve. to take his little girls to the bathroom. He's not going to do that. He's a dad. He wants to protect his girls. And he does the right thing. In my opinion, he was not in the wrong. And this man who called the cops may not have been completely in the wrong, but the wrong thing he did was to call police. And he's paying the price for it today on social media. You know, there's a guy who's out there and he's always looking for these stories like this and posted it on his social media page and it took off like firing. People are really critical of this guy who's a real estate agent and is going after him. And it all could have been avoided by simply saying, let's have a conversation here. My mother-in-law has really got to go to the bathroom. Can I get in there? I mean, think about it. How many times have you men or women needed to go to the restroom and someone's in there and you can't get in the doors lock? And you're standing around. Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry. But this guy, for some reason, I don't know what he wanted the cops to do. Arrest the guy for being the father for being a pervert? He's not a pervert. He's a dad looking out for his little girls. And those little girls had to go to the bathroom and he was trying to do the safest thing he could to help them out. And it all could have been handled so differently by that man just asking him, how much longer are you going to be? I've got a woman here who really does need to go to the bathroom. It takes her a little bit of time because she's in a wheelchair.

So, you know, could you hurry it up a little bit or how much longer are you going to be instead of grabbing this phone and calling police? It was totally unnecessary, in my opinion. I learned something in this article that I want to talk to our next guest about. The article focused on a former president Dwight D. Eisenhower and his effort to add a couple of words to the Pledge of Allegiance. Vital words. And he thought they were very vital to help America's identity. Joining us on our newsmaker line to talk about that is Fred Lucas, chief news correspondent with the Daily Signal. Fred, how are you? Welcome to the Rod and Greg show. Hey, doing great. Thanks for having me on. You know, Fred, I didn't realize that the two words of under God weren't in the original Pledge of Allegiance. It was... Dwight D. Eisenhower, who added them to it. Why did he do that? Well, yeah, yeah. It was the Dwight Eisenhower who signed the bill to add to him. But it was actually, there was an effort going back to 1951 for the Knights of Columbus asked for it to, we're the first actually asked for it to be in there. And then Congress eventually passed a law. Interestingly enough, proposed by a Democrat, a congressman from Michigan. And it was passed by a voice vote. Somehow I've probably been controversial today. And, but, yeah, but it was something that Eisenhower was very committed to. He was, and even goes back to his time in the war, he felt like when he saw what happened in the Holocaust, concentration camps, he felt like that was what. happens in a godless society. And he didn't want to see the U.S. go that way. And he watched what was happening or what had happened and was happening in the Soviet Union. And he determined that what made America very different from the Soviets, other than just freedom, is that the Soviets were pretty much a godless society. When that changed, they... shut down on many of the churches and made them sort of a statist facilities and so forth.

Yeah, and that's like one small, small gesture, but he also felt that it, however strong America could be, just that small reminder would be something to also keep Americans humble as well. He thought it was very important that school children would say this every morning in their pledge, didn't he? Right. Right, yeah, yeah. And that is something he said at the bill signing, and I can actually read that. He just said that from this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural schoolhouse, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty. And he added to anyone who truly loves America, nothing could be more inspiring than to contemplate the rededication of our youth on each school morning to our country's true mean. And, yeah, I mean, those are pretty inspiring words. He signed the bill on Flag Day in 1954. Fred, did he have a tough time convincing people to support this move? It was a fairly popular. Yeah, at the time, not a controversy, as I mentioned in Congress, it passed by a voice vote. But, yeah, it was a bipartisan move. It was an effort that kind of began, a slowly move that it was first supported by Catholics. As I mentioned, the Knights of Columbus. It did catch on, though. It was actually something. They're really convinced Eisenhower to do it. He was in the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. That church is actually very famous because Lincoln attended that church. But the Reverend Doherty, Greg Doherty, gave a sermon there in which he made a strong point about the need to add under God to the pledge. And that was kind of a really a convincing point where Eisenhower was truly committed after hearing that sermon. Fred, was there any concern that by adding those two words, under God to the pledge, that it would, it didn't include all faiths, like the Muslims, maybe even, maybe even the Jewish faith. Was there any concern that by adding that to the pledge, that it may offend other faiths? Well, no, I mean, I don't think that because it didn't say, it said under God, so I think it would include. almost or most faith in terms of like jews and muslims certainly who are monotheistic faith um but yeah under god it did not identify jesus uh or a specific faith so i i don't think there was a concern at that point uh and since then it's

pretty well sustained in court, despite a few challenges here and there along the way. Michael Newdow, I guess two decades ago, made a challenge. And that was dismissed on standing, but no one's really made a strong effort. And I would think the ACLU, the Americans United and so forth, if they really thought that they could get rid of that, they would have by now. In the secular world that the country is going through right now, how difficult would it be today to try and get something like that, that term under God, added to the Pledge of Allegiance? I would think it would be almost nearly impossible. It might be. At the same time, it would be rough to... Give the rationale of why you're opposing it. Yeah, that's true. I think the, I think they, right, right. I mean, the argument would be a separation of church and state or that exclusionary of, you know, exclusionary of non-religious people and or people who don't believe in God.

And interestingly enough, the first version of the pledge that just says one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, it just skips the under God part. That was written by a Baptist minister. It was actually to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Columbus voyage in 1892. So, you know, man of faith wrote that, wrote the pledge to start with, but it took a soldier and a president to sign the bill to add it. You point Fred to a book written called The Soul of an American President, The Unstooled Story of Dwight D. Eisenhower's faith. And it really points out before he even became president, faith was very important to Dwight D. Eisenhower, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah. And that goes back to his time. You know, I mean, he had a Christian upbringing. He may have swayed from it for a while in life and his youth. But he certainly was like certainly instilled in him during the war. And during his command, and he saw, as I mentioned before, he saw what, you know, what happens when societies turn their back on God. Yeah, yeah, interesting. Fred, great article. Learned some things in your article. So thank you very much for joining us tonight. Yeah, yeah, I encourage folks to read it on DailySignal.com. All right, Fred Lucas, chief news correspondent for the Daily Signal, talking about why Dwight D. Eisenhower believe the phrase, under God, was vital to America's identity and victory in the Cold War. By the way, if you're looking for a movie to take in over the weekend one time, if you haven't seen this movie, it's called Pressure, and it's the story of the invasion of D-Day. and how all the pressure was put on this one weatherman, a meteorologist, from the UK. And he had to tell they were originally planning the DDA invasion to take place on June 5th. But this meteorologist had the guts to tell Eisenhower and all the generals surrounding him, including those from the Allied forces, not to go on the 5th because it was going to rain and it was going to be a wicked storm. And all the generals, including Eisenhower, for a while, wanted to go on the 5th of June back in 1944. But this one meteorologist said, uh-uh, don't believe all the statistics. There is a storm coming in, and you do not want to go. And it was that Sunday where Eisenhower basically said, all right, I believe you, we'll wait until actually the 18th of June, which is tomorrow, by the way. will wait and go on the 18th. And a lot of people were very upset with Eisenhower for making that decision. And there's a terrific scene in the movie where you have all these generals going into this little church. Beautiful sunny day. It is June 5th. Beautiful sunny day. And all of a sudden you're going, boy, did this guy make a mistake? And they're coming out of the church and it starts raining with a downpour.

And it went on for several hours, and they did find a gap where they could go on June 6th. Terrific movie, if you're looking for one, it's called Pressure. All right, more coming up. He did so at a dinner tonight in France at Versailles with French President Emmanuel Macron looking on, but he has now signed this. I think there are 14 points to this memorandum of understanding. It will open the straight. It will end the conflict right now. But there's a lot of pressure on the president. Make sure this works a lot of pressure on the Iranians to behave them. Now, a lot of people don't have faith that they will. But we'll have to wait and see. You know, the president is a man of his word. And if they don't behave and do certain things that is mentioned in that agreement, the president is not afraid, as he said today, to drop a bomb on their head. So they better behave themselves. So we were talking before the break with Fred Lucas about the desire of Dwight D. Eisenhower, former president. uh to include two words in the pledge of allegiance that was under god and he had seen what a godless society could do and of course during the world war two he saw the concentration camps you know who wouldn't be disturbed by that uh he saw what was taking place in the soviet union at the time closing all the churches a godless society again And he wanted the term under God included in the Pledge of Allegiance and to make sure that every child in America would recite that as part of the Pledge of Allegiance every day in school. And they did. And he saw that was critical. But I contrast that now with what we're seeing with public opinion polling now. New poll out on CNN today. Nearly half of Americans say they don't consider themselves apart. of either major political party, the highest level of partisan independence measured by CNN, and the number of Democrats who are now saying they will not fly an American flag on July 4th is down to like 27%. You know, on the Republican side, they have 82% of Republicans who say they will proudly.

fly the flag on July 4th as we celebrate 250 years, but only 27% of Democrats are saying I'm not going to do it. You know, and it has dropped, I mean, I don't have that number in front of me, but it has dropped significantly from, I think of 2013, where it was upwards of 60 to 70% of Democrats at that time. saying that they're going to fly the flag on July 4th, now down to about 27% who are simply saying, nope. And, you know, does it all go back to Donald Trump? And is that why the Democrats now hate this country? Because Donald Trump is doing what many common sense, fair-minded Americans want to see happen in this country. They want to see the values of America and Western civilization restored. That's what Donald Trump is fighting to restore those values. And that's why he's doing whatever he can to make America shine once again. Now, a lot of people are saying, well, you know, he's a dictator. He's a king. You know, he's a racist. Any word you find, they will find a way to apply it to Donald Trump. But that's not what the American people voted for. 77 million Americans said, you know, what Donald Trump is trying to do, we support. But you have Democrats who just and socialist especially, and there's an inner party within the party of the Democratic Party who hate America. and are trying to convince all Americans. That's the way to go. You have Zohran Mamdani. You have Bass. You have Wilson in Seattle. You're about to get a socialist mayor in the nation's capital. She's leading. And her ideas as to what should be done to that city are no different from those of Mendonny. And we'll see what the president has to do when it comes to dealing with that in the nation's capital.
