News Radio Wham 1180, the trial of three prison guards accused in the beating and killing of Rochester area inmate Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional. We'll move to the jury soon after closing arguments today. Matthew Galaher, Nicholas Kiefer, and David Kingsley are all charged with murder. Other officers already took plea deals, and one of them testified Tuesday that records were falsified. With that, the prosecution ended its case. The defense called no witnesses arrested. Closing arguments begin this morning at 10, and then after instructions from the judge, the jury will deliberate. Todd Holliday, News Radio, Wham 1180. The man who admitted to killing a man outside a bar on Westridge Road nearly four years ago, formerly will be sentenced to 22 years in prison today. 34-year-old Jose Acevedo pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month just before he was to go on trial for murder. He gunned down 29-year-old Sean Semprey outside Black Bear Pub in November 2021. Hasevedo was already serving five years in prison and an unreasonable. related weapons charge. The former commander of the Geneva American Legion has been arrested while he was on the run in Pennsylvania. Dale Mosier is accused of taking $100,000 from the post and was supposed to go on trial September 15th for grand larceny, but fled to Gettysburg and Harrisburg. Ontario County Sheriff David Serencion says Mosier has been threatening witnesses. During this time. Three victims now from Geneva received the letters that were very threatening, and two of the three people are witnesses in the case against Mr. Mosier. The third is a relative. Serencione says he's pretty confident the letters came from Mosier. Five of the seven people arrested the death of Sam Norquist due back in court today, and they face first-degree murder in other charges. Prosecutors say the defendants beat, starved, tortured, and sexually abused Norquist earlier this year, and they also forced two young children to take part. The transgender man's body founded afield in Yates County in February. Big NATO summit underway in Brussels. I'm Fiki Barker at the Foreign Desk in London. NATO defense ministers discussing ongoing aid to Ukraine with U.S. Defense Chief Pete Hegseth. the take-up on the Pearl program, which sees NATO members buying U.S. weapons for delivery to Ukraine. If there's anything we've learned under President Trump is the active application of peace through strength. Also on the table today, Russia's ongoing incursions into NATO airspace and how to stop them. Leaders of young Republican groups around the country that used racist violent language in a group chat told to immediately resign. Messages in the group chat among leaders of young Republican organizations in several states repeatedly used racist and homophobic slurs, refer to black people as watermelon people, putting political opponents in gas chambers, and loving Hitler. The seven months of messages on the telegram instant messaging service were obtained by Politico. The board of directors of the Young Republicans National Federation is calling on everyone involved to resign.

The entire Kansas state young Republican organization has been shut down. Its vice chair at the time of the chat is let go by the state attorney general's office. A Staten Island, New York State Assemblyman fired his chief of staff who made the Hitler comment. Chris Foster. Fox News Radio Wamp, below many time is now 805. But rest assured, I'm unusually good-looking, just like always. Kind of a movie star looks. That's really been the secret to my success in radio. That situation with the young Republicans really has, as its center, the leadership of New York State young Republicans. One of the people mentioned repeatedly almost 20 times in this political article of yesterday is a man who has worked for Senator Rob Ort from our area. What happened is that just the context. We know that there's horrible, nasty fighting between parties, right? In this new era of contention where you hate everybody, folks who vote my way, really, really hate people who vote your way. And the people who vote your way, we really, really hate people who vote my way, right? And we fight tooth and nail, unfortunately, and to our great shame and social hurt. But we know about the fighting between parties because it happens out in the open. What most of us, regular people like you and me, are not aware of is the fighting that occurs within parties. And the only thing nastier than the fights between parties are the fights within parties. Now, to people like you and me, that doesn't make any sense, right? Because when we were playing Little League, we didn't fight with our own teammates. We had a common cause. When you were finally on the varsity, your teammates were your bros or your sisters or whatever they called it wherever you're from, right? But you were family. Right? A little bit of, you are family. You're on a team. You have a common cause. If you ever served in the military or something like that, we're on your volunteer fire department. It belonged to a fraternal organization. This is your tribe. This is your clan. These are your people. And you've got their back, right? But in politics, there's a different motivation.

And many people who are engaged in the political process are very nice people, but not all of them. And some people are drawn to the political process for horrific reasons. Some of them are very bad people. And some of them will run for office or get involved in a party because they want to aggrandize themselves. Either they lust for power. They lust for ego. They want to be big wheels. They want to feel like they're important. And that motivates them. They want to be able to control who can get what job, you know, working at the town highway and stuff like that. Maybe then they'll bump up to the county and we'll be able to see who gets what job at the county and you have to kiss my ass a certain way if you want to get that job at the county. And then they bump up to the state and for crying out loud if you want this. I mean, they get into that. It is a sinister sort of thing. And you see that inside parties. So all of this is getting to the point where we have a bunch of text messages which have been released, which use a lot of racially insensitive language, seemed to show very negative attitudes towards black people and Jewish people and seem to think that the Holocaust was funny. What happened is that the New York State young Republicans is an organization of wannabes in the Republican Party. Junior staffers, largely overweight young men who like to wear suits with American flagpins. I'm all into the American flag pin, but some of the climbing and aspiration, I don't know if I'm all that fond of. The New York State young Republicans or at war with the New York Young Republican Club, similar name, but based in New York City. And the two clubs hate each other. They're both Republicans, okay? Supposedly believe in the same things. But they spend their time pissing and moaning and fighting backstabment against each other within the Republican Party. And then the New York State Republican Party, New York State young Republicans, they're the ones whose text messages we got. They were planning a takeover of the national young Republicans group. And so they were plotting and planning how to do this, that, and the other so they could take over the whole country. And it was their communications about that and some of their characterizations of the people who were opposing them that ended up in these text messages. What happened was that the New York Young Republicans Club out of New York City got a hold of one member of this text exchange group.

And he says in the sworn statement extorted him, threatened to get him fired from his Republican job if he did not turn over to them all these text messages. Well, he didn't want to lose his Republican job. So he gave to the New York City group the New York State group's text messages. And then the New York City group took those text messages and gave them to Politico, which yesterday published them. And it was in those messages. Again, one of the members, a former staffer for Senator Rob Ort, you had black people referred to as watermelon people. There, somebody said in there, I like Hitler. And people who oppose the political plans of these New York State young Republicans, they, I presume, and I hope joked about killing them, putting them in a gas chamber. And then it was, oh, not a gas chamber, but like a shower. like they did in, you know, the Holocaust. And, you know, there's a point where someone uses a colloquial variation of the N-word a few times. And people talk about Jews in a not flattering fashion. And, you know, there does seem to be an awful lot of reference to Hitler in the Holocaust, not in revulsion. So, and again, there are almost 3,000 pages of these text messages. A lot of the things were exchanged back and forth, but undeniably, a lot of what was exchanged was deeply offensive. And it came from within, you know, the interior chamber of the New York State Young Republicans. Also, some individuals involved from Kansas, Arizona, and Vermont. But the large theme of this was. New York State young Republicans. And it's an unfortunate reality. It's a heartbreaking, disappointing thing. And of course, Democrats like to say, oh, Republicans are a bunch of racists and bigots and stuff like that. And we Republicans say, oh, no, we're not. Stop saying that. And, you know, then you have stuff like this where you look at it and you can say, you know what, that probably is racist and it probably is bigoted. And it is an embarrassing reality. And also the venality of the infighting, the absolute shallowness of these people is deeply, deeply disappointing. And to think that the structure and apparatus... of the ancillary portions of the Republican Party would become a home to such people and that such people would find success there is disappointing and calls for soul searching. Senator Orte has said all these people must be fired.

They've also been denounced by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and also by Congressman Mike Lawler, the two potential gubernatorial candidates. But again, you can pull out the weeds, but you've got to figure out what grows them. And at any rate, that's what happened. I've reached out to Rob Orte, see if he wants to speak on this. Not to sound all Nambi Pambi, but I was out running yesterday and oh my gosh, I forget the name of the street. Is it Columbia? There's one that goes east and west in the southwestern portion of the city. And there's, I think that's it. Yeah, well, Columbia Avenue is what it is. I was on Columbia Avenue, and there's an old church there. I think the original congregation has long since moved out, and it's been taken over by a successor of faith or congregation. But when they originally built the church, they put... Above the front doors, it's kind of stained glass in that it's leaded, but it doesn't, it's not all a colorful illustration. It's not some, you know, visual depiction of some Bible story. It's a Bible verse or a portion of a Bible verse. It's John 1721, the first phrase from that verse. And it is, the words are kind of like, arched like they're like you know in an arch and the words are that they may all be one And then it has John 1721. John 1721 is in the King James Version, that they all may be one as thou father art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou has sent me. In any rate, it is a call for unity.

And it's just interesting that in this church, and it looks to be, I don't know, 100 years old or so, maybe a little more, a little bit less. But 100 years ago or so, as this congregation chose to, I don't know, define itself or we're going to spend the money to put a message in the stained glass on the window up there, what message did they choose? And it was that they may all be one. It was a message of unity. And, you know, I don't think that we become one by ceasing to be ourselves or by abandoning our values, but maybe more firmly clinging to our shared values, like our belief in our shared humanity and the fact that we have rights in common. I can pursue my happiness. You can pursue yours. I'm free to say what I want. You're free to say what you want. And while we may choose to say different things or believe different things, we still have that common belief. And we also recognize that, like, I'm a human being and you're a human being. And I know it's been said a million times, but we need to re-embrace this concept in our country. And, you know, I can't control the country and neither can you. But we do each have the unique and limitless ability to control ourselves. Right. And, you know, I can't do, I can't control Trump. I can't control a Chuck Schumer. I can't control anybody about myself. And I have my handful with that. But if you and I work better to control ourselves, we all, some people say that they are unable to change. No, they're unwilling to change. And I'm not saying it's easy by any means. I'm not saying it's going to be a flip of a switch. It can take a lot of effort and it can take a lot of time. But we are individually capable of being better people. And we can find a way to hold true to our values while not spit in each other's faces. And if I try that and you try that and the other guy tries that in time, our society, our country are better and stronger. And we kind of pull back from this cesspool of mutual hate that seems to be sucking us all in. Let's stop. One of the individuals prominently mentioned some 19 times in the story in political about this. is a man who had worked for Senator Rob Orte. I reached out to Senator Orte to see if he wanted to comment on this. And I said, you want to say anything about this political matter? And he wrote back, I'm not ignoring you, but I'm on vacation with my wife, so I will pass for today. Thank you. And, you know, that certainly is, of course, his prerogative in option. I would personally think that this would be a matter that one would want to address more directly. And, you know, vacations certainly are important and wonderful and such, but it's hard to imagine a day or a place where there aren't five minutes that can be spared. There needs to be – now I'll move on. Let's see another time. We'll come back, talk about those folks another time. The war in Israel and Hamas. On Monday, that was really, really swell, right? On Monday, we were rejoicing. You had the reunion of hostages with their families. You had the reunion of the Palestinians who had been held near 2,000 of them with their families. You had people on both sides of the border, if you will, who were gleeful and rejoicing. You had the Palestinian folks who were moving on foot and en masse back to whatever part of Gaza city they lived in or whatever other community they called home. And prospects were high, the president and all this other stuff. And I'm not saying that anything has been diminished, but the reality on the ground has turned immediately ugly.

As soon as the Israeli defense forces stopped attacking Hamas, Hamas surged into the area, to Gaza City and other places. And Hamas has since Monday been engaged in, to be honest with you, a purge of anybody in the Gaza Palestinian community who could rival it. or who disagrees with it. More about that in the second. It is 53 at 841, and you're listening to News Radio, Wham 1180. Saying about the situation over in Gaza. Hamas is one faction in Gaza, if I'm expressing that correctly. And as is sometimes the case in that part of the world, there are prominent families who will be community leaders, if you will, and they will sometimes have like their own militia or their own political pull. And, you know, there have been some of these families which have not been the biggest fans of Hamas. Also, many Palestinians just joined Betty Palestinian have grown to really dislike Hamas because it's been oppressive to them and because, you know, its actions led to this two years of really living hell for the people in Palestine. And some people had expressed during the war their dislike for Hamas. And some of these families had, again, expressed, you know, glee that Hamas was apparently going to be gone. So Hamas has spent the last most of three days now literally executing these people. Yesterday, a video came out. Members of one of these prominent families had taken shelter in a hospital during the last days of the war, if you will, hoping to be safe there. Hamas went to the hospital, made violent incursion into it, dragged out the members of this family, at least the men, and bound them hand in foot. blindfold them, made them kneel there in the road with the rest of their family looking on and the community watching and executed them, right? It shot them through the head in cold blood. Hamas has killed dozens and dozens of Palestinians since this thing ended. And Hamas seems to be killing rivals and trying to reinforce itself. So that has been a huge problem. Further, Hamas, President Trump said, was going to kind of be like the police force to keep things stable. And that's apparently what Hamas represented to our folks. That's not been the case. And unfortunately, there has been significant crime on Palestinian.

And as people are, you know, walking back to their homes, they've got their worldly belongings maybe in a cart or on their back or something like that. But they are being violently assaulted by gangs of other Palestinians. And they are being beaten and having their thing stolen. And unfortunately, women are being raped. And so right now, it is, believe it or not, a worse hellhole there than it was. a week ago. And, you know, how that gets stopped, I don't know that we have a solution. Israel angry that just eight bodies had been returned by Hamas instead of 28, and Israel angered that in the second batch of four, one of the bodies appears to be a Palestinian and not an Israeli hostage. Israel, in response to that, has said that today... It is cutting the amount of relief that can come into Gaza in half. Also, Israel is not going to allow the hafa. I'm sorry, I got that wrong word. But there's a gate that goes into the Rafa gate that goes into Egypt. Egypt has allowed food to come in this Rafa gate, but the goal is to allow for Israel to let Palestinians to go out of the Rafa gate. Egypt is not into letting a lot of these people in, but some of them need medical care or they specialize treatment or their families they can reunite with. And at any rate... Exit through the Rafah gate is shut off by Israel. And so Monday, everything was great. Wednesday, it is a very, very difficult reality. And again, the same evil which defined Amos on October 7th, its disregard for human life of Israelis, is demonstrated now that same spirit of evil with an equal disregard for the lives of Palestinians. Hamas is using violence today, killing people, unarmed people in cold blood to reinforce its grip on Palestinian society. That's where things stand. Take a break. Xerox is as I understand it, though the number is not in this memo, Xerox is reducing its worldwide workforce by 15%. There was a time when layoffs at Xerox in our area were a big deal. Xerox, however, like so much of the region's industrial base, has essentially been gutted, not to minimize the jobs or the people who work there, but in terms of raw numbers, they're, of course, dramatically down. Let me see, I've got this. memo here. It's from some guy named Steve, who I guess is the hi-up-muck-de-muck, the CEO.
