A Rochester woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for setting an apartment building fire the killed of five-year-old boy. Takita Hendrix was sentenced in Monroe County Court after being found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and second-degree assault. The court denied an application filed by her attorney under the Domestic Violence Survivor's Justice Act, which had delayed her sentencing. The fire was set in July of 2024 at a building on Portland Avenue. It killed Malachi Stoval, who was trapped inside. Takeda's sister, Tikaela Hendrix, got 12 years for her role in the fire, and Roy Chambers was sentenced to nine years. Bud Lowell, News Radio, Wham 1180. The second of two men will be sentenced today in a deadly shooting in the Upper Falls neighborhood. 21-year-old Timothy Brooks Jr. was convicted of second-degree murder, attempted robbery in a gun crime back in November.

Police say he and Rafael Marquez shot 39-year-old James Jackson, Jr. several times back in August of 2024 as Jackson was sitting in his car in Cuba Place off Joseph Avenue. Marquez pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. A Geneva City counselor under arrest is part of a wide-ranging drug trafficking investigation. Troopers say 45-year-old to Med Whitfield was arrested yesterday. After he was caught selling either cocaine or fentanyl. He faces three felony drug counts. Whitfield is an at-large counselor. And he just won re-election in November. Geneva officials released a statement acknowledging the arrest but won't comment on any specifics. A former Ogden police officer due back in federal court this morning. 47-year-old Stephen Plouf is charged with threatening a federal law enforcement officer. He allegedly left a threatening letter on the porch of an FBI special agent last September, then threatened Greece police officers who went to detain him. Plouf was then taken to Rochester General, where he later escaped triggering a manhunt. He was arraigned on state charges of reckless endangerment and menacing a police officer in October. Marty Casper News Radio, WAM 1180. He's also scheduled to appear in Monroe County Court this afternoon to possibly enter a guilty plea on those state reckless endangerment and menacing charges. One RPD officer was hospitalized after a fracas outside the transit center downtown. Police say they were called to the scene about eight last night. The officer expected to recover. No citizens were hurt. Several people were arrested. but they haven't named any of them, and no charges have been announced. Transit Center operations are normal right now. And on duty, LaRoy police detective sent to the hospital after an allegedly drunk driver hit his vehicle. It happened yesterday at Route 19 and Munson Street. Both the detective and the driver had minor injuries. Police had the 29-year-old driver had opened beer cans in the car and his two prior DWI convictions, and he's accused of fighting with officers at the hospital. News Radio Way. I'm 1180 time. 705. Another check of traffic and weather together on the tens in less than five minutes. Minneapolis is a city at edge after an ice agent shot and killed a woman from Colorado. Renee Good was described by some as a legal observer after Homeland Security kicked off what it described as its largest DHS operation ever in the Twin Cities. The shooting in Minneapolis has become the latest political touchstone with the left and the right. viewing the videos in contradictory ways. Law enforcement officials say that the agent was acting in self-defense that the woman was trying to run him over. They called the driver a violent rioter, with Donald Trump describing her as violently, willfully and viciously attacking the ICE officer. Those on the left and protesters say this was murder. with Minnesota's governor, Tim Woolse, saying it was a consequence of the federal government trying to generate fear, headlines, and conflict. I'm Nick Harper in Washington. A manhunt underway for the person or persons who killed two people and injured six others outside a church in Utah.

Salt Lake City Mayor Aaron Mendehall says a funeral was taking place in an LDS church yesterday when an altercation broke out in the parking lot and shots were fired at a group of people. This should never have happened. This should never have happened outside a place of worship. It should not have happened at a celebration of life that was occurring inside of the church. Three people are in critical condition. The names of the victims and a motive for the shooting have not yet been released. Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Red says they don't believe this was a targeted attack against a religion. The U.S. has seized two sanctioned oil tankers that are linked to Venezuela. American officials say the tankers were in violations of sanctions and embargoes on Venezuela. CBS's Charlie Daggeta has more. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that seizing Venezuelan oil, both at sea and on land, will help stabilize the country. That money will then be handled in such a way that we will control how it is dispersed in a way that benefits the Venezuelan people, not corruption, not the regime. That oil, worth between $2 and $3 billion, would be taken by tankers and brought to port in the United States. Democrats called the White House plan theft. Bishop John Benici has been introduced as the next bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester. I'm inheriting a wonderful place. Your winters are going to take a little getting used to and a few other things. But overall, I'm delighted to be here. And I think by hearing those stories, I will discover hats that together as a community, we can do great things with the Lord. Benici is the auxiliary bishop of New York City. He'll be installed in Rochester, taking over for Bishop Salvatore Matano. Matano reached the mandatory retirement age several years ago. Currently, he's 79. He was allowed to stay on at the discretion of the Pope. Matano served as Bishop. since 2014. It presided over the diocese when it became the first in New York State to file bankruptcy in the wake of the child abuse victim's lawsuit. Governor Kathy Hochul laying out initiatives to crack down on ghost guns ahead of her state of the state address next Tuesday. We will not allow do-it-yourself gun traffickers to convert their homes into unsanctioned firearm factories. The bill would create criminal penalties for those who make and sell untraceable guns, which can typically be made or altered using a 3D printer. President Trump's increased tariff revenues will allow the U.S. to easily hit the $1.5 trillion number while also paying down the debt. Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland confirming to the Washington Post that he will not run for re-election after 44 years in Congress. Horry reportedly plans to announce his retirement on the House floor today. Hoyer has been in Congress since 1981 when he won a special election. In court, his mom, Brianna Akers. pressed for the maximum sentence. I think that she did not show any remorse at all. I mean, not that I would even want to hear it because, I mean, it wouldn't matter. I would also like that she gets life in prison. He's accused of charging his car at officers, approaching them with a machete and even trying to set them on fire with a spray can and a lighter. A search of his house after that incident found threatening notes for an FBI agent. He faces separate federal charges for that. Dave Debo News Radio Wham 1180. Four young men are facing charges after an overnight arrest on Rochester Southwest Side. Police say they've... filed the armed 20, 19, 18, and 17-year-olds just after midnight at Reynolds and Holly Streets. They recovered four loaded guns, including a modified AK-47 rifle. Some of the names, actually all of the names, and the charges against them, have not yet been released. The man accused of sexually assaulting three people in downtown Rochester goes before judge today for the first time after being indicted on several charges. Ronnie L. Brooks allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old boy, a 21-year-old woman, and a 15-year-old girl, all in the area of St. Paul Street and the Genesee River. These assaults took place in October and November. Brooks now stands indicted on charges of kidnapping, predatory. sexual assault, strangulation, multiple counts of rape and other crimes. Fox's Mike Tobin has the latest from Minneapolis. Minneapolis Public Schools canceled classes for the remainder of the week. Now, DHS says the shooting was justified in self-defense. Secretary Kristi Noem has said the ICE agent who fired the fatal shots was actually hit by the SUV as it lunged forward, treated and released from a local hospital. Cole Good 37 years old was shot and killed. Protesters immediately clashed with agents. There was minimal vandalism to the federal building downtown. Now, Mayor Fry says he doesn't want to repeat of the riots five years ago, yet he let loose with vulgar language condemning agents in the DHS version of what happened. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says he was outraged by the shooting, but called the protests for the protest to stay peaceful and suggested that he was already to deploy the National Guard if needed. More than 2,000 federal agents had been deployed to Minnesota. Salt Lake City Police say two people are dead, at least six others injured after a mass shooting at a funeral at a Latter-day Saints Church. CBS reporter Brian Schnee says so far the suspect?

More suspects remain at large. The woman I spoke to who was inside, her name Lillian, she was there paying her respects to the member of this community. She told me that all of this happened outside. She heard screams, did not recall hearing gunshots per se, and then people started to kind of mill about and move about inside. The delay comes after Reiner's attorney, Alan Jackson, unexpectedly withdrew from the case Wednesday. Reiner, whose arraignment was set for Wednesday morning, will now be represented by a public defender. The 32-year-old is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of his parents, Hollywood icon Rob Reiner and photographer Michelle Singer-Riner. Rochester's Upper Falls neighborhood will be sentenced later on today. 21-year-old Timothy Brooks Jr., convicted in November of second-degree murder, attempted robbery and a weapons charge. Investigators St. Brooks and Raphael Marquez opened fire on 39-year-old James Jackson, Jr. in August 2024, as Jackson said, inside its car on Cuba Place near Joseph Avenue. Four young men now facing charges after an overnight arrest on Rochester Southwest Side. Police said they found the armed 2019, 18, and 17-year-olds just after midnight at Reynolds and Holly Straits, and they recovered four loaded guns, including a modified AK-47-style rifle. Tensions escalating in Minneapolis after an ICE agent shot and killed a woman during an enforcement operation. Federal officials say 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was killed after an agent fired what Homeland Security calls defensive shots, leaving her actions in active domestic terrorism. Witnesses dispute the account, saying Good appeared to be driving away when the agent fired several shots into her vehicle. The Senate said to vote today on a bipartisan resolution that would block President Trump from taking further military action in Venezuela without congressional approval. Lawmakers, including senators Tim Kaine and Rand Paul, are pushing the measure under the War Powers Act to reassert Congress's authority after Trump's recent actions in the region. The resolution needs a simple majority to pass, but even if it does clear, the Senate, President Trump could still veto that measure. And there is a low-cost treatment for depression, and it's called exercise. An analysis of 73 previous studies has found exercise can be as effective as drugs or therapy in relieving the symptoms of depression. Author Andrew Clegg of Britain's University of Lancashire calls it a low-to-no-cost way of supplementing or in some cases substituting traditional treatments.
