And troops, listen, like always, I appreciate you showing up for muster. And I hope that all is cool and copacetic on your end. Whatever challenges you face today, I hope you know that you are up for them, right? I hope you know that there is no such thing as a mountain you can't get over, a problem you can't get around. There is no difficulty you can't handle. Your life's experience teaches you that. I have faith in you. You heard there referenced in the news by the gentleman. The Supreme Court yesterday looking at a couple of laws on transgender sports having what with West Virginia and Idaho. And I want to read you a brief exchange between Samuel Alito and a lawyer who was there representing the American Civil Liberties Union. The justice said, To decide, if there is discrimination on the basis of sex, we need to define what sex is, right? To which the ACLU lawyer responded, yes, Your Honor. Lido then says, what does it mean to be a man or woman, a boy or girl? And the ACLU lawyer responded, we do not have a definition.
which prompted me to write this column, which is at Bob Lonsbury or check, which is at Lonsbury.com and is at Bob Lonsbury on X or Facebook. It goes something like this. People can get so smart that they get stupid. Like yesterday at the Supreme Court, where they wrestled again with what it means to be a male or a female. In arguments about bands on transgender athletes in schools in Idaho and West Virginia, there was a lot of dancing around about what is a male and what is a female. Much of the talking was done by Ketanji Brown Jackson Ketanji Brown Jackson, who famously at her confirmation, declined to define what the word woman meant, saying she couldn't because she wasn't a biologist. Well, I'm not a biologist either. But a woman... is a human being who doesn't have a penis and who usually has boobs and at the genetic level has two X chromosomes. That's a woman. There is no confusion, at least not in the real world. In fact, in the real world, the reality of two genders, male and female, and what constitutes each, is one of the most obvious, undeniable and absolute truths in the universe. Among multicellular organisms, 99% engage in sexual reproduction. And among organisms engaging in sexual reproduction, 95% have males and females, like humans. It's not a social construct. It's not a cultural artifact. It's not an imposition of religion or race. It's an immutable biological fact, no matter what anybody says. Country kids learn the difference when Grandpa shows them the south end of a litter of newborn puppies. And a few years down the road, nature clears up any lingering questions or uncertainties. God said he made male and female, and Darwin concurred. But we live in a day and age when the highest court in our land can entertain supposedly logical discussions on what and who is or is not a male or female. And the informed opinion is that the answers are fungible. Politicians, teachers, reporters, and activists all insist that male and female are subjective and assigned or even chosen instead of innate, unchanging, and eternal. Well, they are wrong, and every honest person knows it. we can differ on who should or should not play on what sports teams or where people should shower or go to the bathroom but no amount of politicking or sophistry will ever change what makes a man and what makes a woman And before God formed us in the belly, he knew us. And he knew, as we knew, whether we were male or female. And when we are on the farthest shore of eternity, we will still be what we were then, just what we have always been, a male or a female. It is in our DNA. It is in our bodies. It is in our souls. And neither the lawyers in the courts nor the butchers in the hospitals will ever change that.
And pretending otherwise is the flat earth folly of our time. It is a sinister deception which asks people to reject the evidence of their eyes and the reality of their lives. Evil people spin their tails to confuse us, hoping to lead the impressionable among us away from the joys of family life, which is the ultimate purpose of our maleness or femaleness. People may live as they choose and believe what they will. But certain truths are absolute. And males are males and females are females, no matter what the Supreme Court decides. Again, that's a column I have at X and Facebook under Bob Lonsbury. Yesterday at the Monroe County Legislature, they voted to spend, or rather borrow some $600,000 in order to buy body cameras and tasers for Monroe County probation officers, 30 body cameras and 140 tasers. About half or so of the county probation officers are armed. New officers coming on, I think, are all armed. These people perform an important service and role in regard to public safety. And, you know, they, sometimes, they secure guns. They find guns that people aren't supposed to have. Sometimes they're in situations where people can get out of line. And at any rate, so the cameras and the tasers. And that's good. I would hope that, and I think this is the plan, obviously, in time, I hope all the probation officers are armed. I think it can only be a safety backstop for them. We ask them to go to dangerous places, to be honest with you, and we ask them to visit with dangerous people. And sometimes those dangerous people are around other dangerous people. And, you know, all of that is you want to keep these people safe. And I think they'd be safer with a gun on their hip. Buying all these tasers, that's a step in that direction. And I'm grateful for it. But while we're sitting here thinking about the county probation, there's one other thing I'd like to bring up. And that is the fact that probation officers are required to work, I think, until they're 63 if they want to get a pension, if they want to be able to retire. The 25-year law enforcement retirement that some folks analogous to them get is not available to them. And I recognize that passing out more freebies and spending more money is, you know, it's not high on anybody's agenda.
But, you know, we reported on this program. I think it was last week. Unfortunately, nobody else in the media picked it up. But there was a probation officer who out retrieving an illegal gun was exposed to a potentially lethal dose of an opioid, probably fentanyl. And that officer had to be narcan twice. that officer had to literally be thrown in the back seat of a Rochester police department car and that car speeding directly to the emergency room to save that probation officer when you ask people to do very dangerous things very important things and you have a standard set for this is how we you know treat people who do dangerous and important things there's a part of me that wonders maybe there ought to be a conversation about um you know if we're going to ask somebody to work a job or they might have to get out there and wrestle with somebody or fight for their life Um, maybe we ought not to have them working into their 60s. Maybe you ought to work out some sort of different, uh, retirement plan for them. It's, uh, 1015 time for a break. Back with you in a moment on news radio, Wham, 1180. Fulton Sheen made reference to him a week or two ago. I couldn't remember his name, but Fulton Sheen was a gentleman who...
through the middle portion of the 1900s, is a Roman Catholic priest out of the Midwest, and he became very prominent because he used radio and television to offer commentary, insight. Much of it rooted in his faith and in Christianity. And in a world where a lot of things were happening, there would be a Fulton Sheen, and he would offer a little bit of spiritual wisdom. a little bit of guidance. Sometimes he'd call a society to repentance. And Fulton Sheen was very prominent. He also was pretty conservative, and sometimes that didn't go over very well. At one point, He was punished by the Roman Catholic Church, or at least some of the middle-level functionaries of it. They thought he got a little big for his britches or something. He was a humble man. He was not all about the fame or whatever else like that, though he had a great deal of it. He was by far the most famous Catholic prelate in America at the time. But anyway, his punishment is, you and I've talked about over the years. was to be sent to Rochester to be the bishop of Rochester. But he came and he did a fine job, and every now and again you'll find a Catholic with a few years on him or her, who, when they were youngsters, may have had contact with Fulton Sheen when he was here as bishop. At any rate, there, a few years back, was launched an effort to have Fulton Sheen made a saint. And what the exact wording for that beatified or what I don't know what it means, but to have Fulton Sheen be made a saint. And it seemed to be on a fast track to have that happen. The folks over in Opeoria, Illinois, where he was from, they've got a diocese there, obviously, and they were pushing at St. Patrick's, and he's out in Peoria now. But the deal is, St. Francis, I'm sorry, Pope Francis seems to have been pretty supportive of this effort. and there was a miracle, or maybe two, I think you have to have two, right? There was a miracle attributed to Fulton Sheen or praying to him or something like that. At any rate, it was all set up to go, and then the Diocese of Rochester, New York, specifically the bishop, Matano, he put the kibosh on it. He said, we put a hold. And, no, we think, well, during the priest times when they were diddling the boys, did Fult and Sheen know anything or do anything about that or what was it and this, that, and the other. Well, here's the thing. There's never been the slightest trace of evidence that Fulton Sheen knew anything about any inappropriate conduct or ever provided any cover for any of these priests or anything else like that. His hands were clean here.
Nothing whatsoever to do with this. But for whatever reason, Salvatore Matano has been a barrier to Fulton Sheen getting satehood. And the efforts by the people in Peoria have just been brought to a screeching halt. Pope Francis, he pointed out that in context of this situation, he pointed out that... A saint doesn't have to be a perfect person, right? And that there aren't perfect people. And that doing good, even though you are immortal and fallen, like all of us, is, that's natural, that's normal. And nonetheless, Fulton Sheen has been held up. And that has completely been because of Salvatore Matano. I think it's a dishonorable position. to take, I think that it reflects very poorly on Bishop Metano and, you know, not to be negative, but 100 years from now, there still will be people who know who Fulton Sheen is and there will still be people who will read or watch or listen to his works and be positively influenced by them, right? 20 minutes from now, Salvatore Matano is going to be forgotten, just not trying to be a jerk, but... It is interesting that given the hierarchical power of the bishopric that he has been able to put the kbash on sainthood for this giant of the Roman Catholic faith and this leader of moral preaching in the United States. Anyway, I bring this up because with the movement in March of Bishop Matano to... emeritus status or retirement or whatever you call it and with the move in of this new bishop I wonder if the objections of the Diocese of Rochester will go away. And I wonder if this new bishop will step out of the way and allow the push for Sainthood for Fulton Sheen to occur. I hope that that's the case. It would be a good thing. It would allow a good man who made good points. to once again have a position of prominence and if that draws people to look up what he read or what he said I think that that would be a good thing. So at any rate, in what it means to have a new bishop, I think that maybe that one truly consequential impact of the departure of Bishop Metano will be the opening of the door to sainthood for Fulton Sheen. Also, this new bishop who, I probably should learn his name here sometime soon, right?
I'm excited about him. We talked about it that day, but when he had his little press conference and he, well, you know, introduced himself, you can track down and watch that. And he was comfortable. He was self-deprecating. He was playful. He was prone to smile. He had a real air of humanity about him, as well as a genuine air of spirituality. I'm excited. about the new Roman Catholic Bishop of Rochester. And like I said that day, my hope is that he can be a high profile person in the community, and I hope that he can be something of a little bit of a light of the world. I hope that he can weigh in on moral issues, and I hope that he can be a voice. in a positive direction, in a faith-filled direction. We've got Joe Lasky. He's going to give us the newscast next on News Radio, Wham 1180. Resolutions. My New Year's resolution is to volunteer in my community. 2026 is going to be a big year. To be a better person. Happy News Year. News Radio, Wham 1180. Finding great candidates to hire can be like, well, trying to find a needle in a haystack. I'm almost done. Kiefer Sutherland early Monday, late Sunday, was arrested in Los Angeles, California. You've heard of it. It's west of here. The other side of Bill Gates. I mean, way the other side of Bill Gates. He got in a ride share, and he... He sort of fought a little bit with the rideshare driver, no injuries sustained by the ride share driver, no treatment required. Anyway, looking at the conduct, he threw hands one or two, and again, no injury. Under New York law, if I understand it correctly, Kiefer Sutherland would have been charged with harassment, and he would have been released with an appearance ticket. In California, the exact same course of action is assault, and he was held on $50,000 bond. He posted the bond some several hours later and was released. But California, which we, you know, is kind of out there, at least we think most of the time, California put bail on this man. New York would not. And I would politely suggest that, you know, California is more correct in this situation than is, you know, New York. There, one of the big things to come out of the state of the state address yesterday was something that we had talked about before. And that was Governor Kathy Hochul's plan to try to waive part of the seeker process for some residential development.
It's not just residential development. It's also green energy projects, these cursed solar farms and wind turbines that rape our land and steal our future. To be honest with you, she didn't really, as I listened, I didn't catch a specification. When you say residential, do you mean like more apartment buildings on your mixed income scale with the subsidized housing in there? Or do you mean like a subdivision with single family houses? Are you including that too? But Seeker, the State Environmental Quality Review Act, it sometimes adds two years of review time. She says we have too much red tape, we have too many obstacles, and we need to remove them. And God bless the lady, she is certainly correct about that. And, you know, I wish her a success in this. The issue is, though, that... Um, you know, she proposes the rules. She doesn't get to make the rules. And it will be the legislature that will either give the thumbs up or the thumbs down on this. And the thing is that these processes to discourage residential development and to slow down development of all kinds, those came from the very people she needs now to reverse themselves. And maybe that'll happen and maybe it won't. I say it came from them. Again, as we've talked about before, New York State Democrats have been completely opposed to what, what they call it sprawl, they want smart growth. They can't stand, you know, you're putting in subdivision or whatever else like that. The politicians, the Democrat politicians of New York, have purposefully tried to discourage development, specifically residential development. They say it's sprawl. They say if you want to live someplace, you come back and you live in the cities, right? No more of this suburban crap. You've got to come in here and live in the city. That has been their push, and it's been effective. It has significantly diminished new home construction in the state of New York. It has created the situation of, you know, this so-called housing crisis that Governor Kathy Hochul is talking about now. Let me give you an example. If you want to build a new house in New York, or if you want to... you know, put in a subdivision or something like that. One, you're not going to get electricity for the subdivision, so you're not going to be able to build it. But two, if somehow you could, maybe people want to live in the dark, they don't care about electricity. It will take, building a house is 50% slower in New York because of the various approval processes.
And if you're 50% slower in the completion of a project, that means ultimately that, you know, time being a finite limiter, you're going to only have 50% as much potential development. And that slows your way down. Here's a thing. Among people buying a house, any given year, people buying a house in the United States, 17% of those people are going to be buying a new house, right? That they either had built for themselves or that was part of some development they're moving into. 17% of all the homes bought in America are brand newly built. In New York, it's just 6%. Essentially, one-third. And the reason for that is that in New York, you know, God bless them. But our politician friends have been against residential development. The regulatory obstructions seek her being one of them. So the governor has pointed her finger at a real problem. And I hope that her proposed solution would be helpful. And if it would be, I hope that her proposed solution somehow gets implemented. that the Democrats in the legislature go forward with it. But to the plus and to her credit, I think the Republican song we've been singing for years is that the problem in New York is too much regulation and too much taxation. in regard to developing and building houses and stuff like that, or residential properties, rather, she has said, we have too much regulation. I appreciate her coming around to that point of view. I hope that she's successful in doing something about it. I honestly believe if you got the government off people's backs in this state that there'd be a natural kind of organic combustion of prosperity. if that were to happen. So that's that deal. She, of course, spent some time attacking Trump and the Republicans about every problem you can think of in this state as the fault of that damned Donald Trump and his Republican friends. So there was that. Immigration, it's interesting. She said kind of what she said before, that... in New York, state and municipal law enforcement agencies and officers will not be allowed to help federal officials with immigration enforcements. Okay? And she also, again, she's got a little provision. She leaves room for if the illegal alien is a true bad guy, has done a serious crime.
She has always left a little bit of wiggle room in cases like that. And as I listened, I thought she left that same wiggle room. And I appreciate that. Further, there's a Democrat agenda in the legislature called New York for All. We talked about that yesterday. Really, a series of things designed specifically to protect illegal aliens in the state of New York. Kathy Hochul has not come out. and supported New York for all. And, you know, I see that as an encouraging sign. And I think that probably right now, if you look at the stuff going on in Albany, that you would probably see Kathy Hochul as, again, she's as progressive as the day as long, but among all the crazy psychos who have power up in Albany, She is the one who is closest to being a moderate, closest to the center. Though she's not a moderate, she's nowhere near the center. But compared to with everybody else, she's the best bet you got. And so as they fight back and forth, they are going to be pulling ever leftward, and she's going to be dragging her feet a little bit on that. And so, you know, that kind of boils down to she may be. our only hope for a little bit of moderation and common sense and what comes out of Albany. And, you know, if that is the case, I hope that she keeps her head straight. I hope that she sees things continually or increasingly in a common sense way. And I hope that she's successful in getting... uh... her way at least in regard to these things that could be beneficial for us take a break back with you in a moment you're allowed to call you're encouraged to call two two eleven eighty this is news radio wham eleven eighty with the explosion of a i sometimes it's hard to tell what's the real deal that's something you'll never have to worry about with wham we give you the real story from real people no a i here Just reporters and anchors who work and live here. Across the Middle East, that probably in reaction to sort of a threat from Iran, that if we, the United States, take any action against them in regard to this uprising they seem to be having among their people that they will consider any of our military installations fair game. And, you know, we can, of course, protect these installations, but our greatest tool for... projecting power anywhere is an aircraft carrier battle group. We don't have one in that part of the world right now. And so we're a little slow to uncork things there. Saudi Arabia has encouraged us not to take action against Iran, even though Saudi Arabia and Iran hate each other. There are different brands of Muslim, I think, and they are the two rivals for preeminence in that part of the world. and can't stand each other. But Saudi Arabia's concern is that if you do something with Iran, that is going to screw up the flow of oil, and that is going to screw up the economy. Not that Iranian oil is that significant a player on the world market, but that Iran would mess with oil tankers of other nations as they transited. near its coasts and that that would be a problematic further Saudi Arabia has reached out to Iran to assure it Iran that the United States will not use Saudi bases, personnel, or airspace for any sort of attack on Iran. So Saudi says, leave it alone. I think that there's increasing desire on the part of President Trump to do something. There may well be an execution hanging today. It's believed that some 10,000 people who are in custody, more than 2,000 have been killed thus far. And the declaration from the Ayatollahs is pretty clear. If you are protesting the Iranian government, you are fighting against God and you must be executed. So they don't have like a First Amendment over that way. You're free to worship one religion and you have to do it their way. And you will not use any free speech. Unfortunately, they also don't have a Second Amendment over there because given the number of people across that country who are ticked off at the oppression they face, if they had a Second Amendment over there, the Ayatollahs would not be in business anymore and the Iranian people would be free. I don't know how they would organize their freedom or what their new world would look like.
But if you had that many people upset, and even if like 10% of them could go home and pull a gun out of the closet and come back downtown, all this stuff about shooting down protesters, that would be over like that. And there's a good chance that they might run up to wherever it is. The Ayatollah lives and pay him a little a visit. I'm saying like the villagers did with Frankenstein. So at any rate, that's the story on Iran. I pray for the liberation of those people. The Persian people for thousands of years have been among the planet's best and brightest. They have been a good-hearted people. They have been intelligent and innovative. They've been largely the people kind of their neighbors. But under the Ayatollahs, under this religious dictatorship, They are bastards. At least the government is. And again, Iran, the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism. They've killed people from one end of this globe to the other, on the name of their God. And it's about time for them to come down. And I am hoping that that happens soon. What about this deal where Bill Clinton might get cited for contempt? Well, it's this oversight committee. It's that guy Comer. It's the Epstein files. And we want Bill Clinton to come in and we want to be able to question him. Well, here's the thing. It's an old Democrat that a lot of people don't like and they want to bring him in and they want to humiliate him. And they want to do everything they can to make Epstein files about Clinton because they fear that other people are trying to make the Epstein files about Trump. And myself, I just kind of shake my head and say, man, I'm kind of done with the whole freaking thing. The Clinton's Bill and Hill. yesterday sent back a letter declining to participate and they went on for like I said four pages and they said you guys are politicizing this and you need to stop being goofballs and stuff like that the response is that okay if Bill Clinton doesn't show up then we will talk about in committee holding him in contempt next week, and we probably will talk about on the floor of the house holding him in contempt the week after that. Here's a deal. I guess I might need to check my testosterone lover or something like that. I'm just not getting my jollies in this let's beat up on each other politically game too much. You know what I'm saying? There are important things that we deal with in the political realm, and we should keep after them. But this deal where we like brutalize each other, just to brutalize each other, man, I'm not seeing the thrill kids. How old is, I'm going to look it up right now. How old is Bill Clinton?
How old is Trump's 79 and Bill Clinton is 79? I think that Brother Trump is holding up a little bit better at his 79 than Bill Clinton is. Bill Clinton looks a little frail, looks a little older. Anyway, the point is this. Do you really want to bring in this 79-year-old guy and sit there and shout at him? do you really want to bring contempt charges against Bill Clinton and send somebody to his house to arrest him? Is that what you want to do? I mean, does that, and my question is, that will accomplish what again? Right? And again, I'm not here defending Bill Clinton at all. But in terms of the Epstein thing, we've known for years that Clinton was all over Epstein and vice versa. But not a single one of the victims in this matter has ever said that Bill Clinton did anything whatsoever wrong. And here's the thing. With a crime, there usually is a victim. And thankfully, there have been victims who have come forward and they have declared that they've been misused. But the two names that have been named thus far have been Epstein himself and in that prince guy out of England. right and do whatever and you know i am fairly certain that if bill and i'm not defending bill clinton but just like the concept of probable cause no one has accused him of anything No victim has come forward. And as we learned, you know, in the mid-1990s that Bill Clinton engaged in some activities and that women were not afraid to come forward and say anything. And those were consensual activities to the extent that a president and an intern is truly consensual relative to that one. But if in that time period or since Bill Clinton had engaged in sexual impropriety, i.e. victimized a female minor inasmuch as so many of these young, now, you know, grown women have come forward and kind of courageously said, this is what happened in the Epstein world. If Bill Clinton had victimized any of them, I'm pretty sure we would have heard of it. And so. You know, I don't really, there are a lot of things going on in the world. Creating some tangential controversy, screwing with Bill Clinton at some little committee in the House of Representatives, I'm sorry, I just don't have enough juice in me to give a damn in that regard.
The Dilbert guy, Scott Adams, we talked about, you know, he's from upstate New York originally. He's passed away, dead prostate cancer. He, of course, ran into some trouble here a while ago, said some inappropriate things. And at any rate, that's a story on him. Real quick, the guy who burned the synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi, he may have been a conservative Christian who got to anti-Semitism that way. He doesn't seem to have tied up with, he was not one of these Gaza people, but he, strong Catholic background, and that may have been where his anti-Semitism came from, not the Catholic Church, obviously, but in the conservative world, there have been some people on the periphery, and that may be where this whole thing is. where that came from. I wish it were different. I wish it weren't that way. But just in reporting what has occurred, that seems to be the deal. When brought before, the judge, all he said to the court was Jesus Christ is Lord. And we don't get that out of a lot of the pro-Hamas protesters at the colleges. Let's stop.
