The dead toll climbing after two powerful back-to-back earthquakes hit Venezuela. At least 164 people now confirmed dead with a number expected to continue to rise, as many remain trapped under the rubble of collapsed homes and buildings. Matthew Blackett, a professor of natural hazards and earthquakes at Coventry University in the UK, says Cruz must work fast to find the survivors. It's dangerous to send people into buildings or collapse buildings to get people out. But unfortunately, we just had maybe 24 or 48 hours to get those people who are currently trapped. out of the buildings, but to do so, we put more lives at risk. A magnitude 7.2 quake first struck yesterday, followed by a magnitude 7.5. That was the strongest to hit Venezuela in over 100 years. The U.S. Geological Survey warns there could be thousands of deaths associated with this quake. The U.S. and other nations planning to send rescue teams and humanitarian assistance to Caracas. Back here, there is an arrest in a shooting that left a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. woman in critical condition. Police say 50-year-old Spencer Wayne of Elmira opened fire on a 67-year-old woman at her Center Street apartment yesterday afternoon, hitting her in the torso. The victim was airlifted to Strong Hospital. Wayne allegedly fled the scene before leading a chase that ended when he crashed into a parked car on Milton Street in Geneva. He faces attempted murder and assault charges. Anthony Panazowitz News Radio, William 1180. Our Rochester man hospitalized after an overnight stamping on the city's northeast side. Police say the 33-year-old was slashed in the upper torso on Clifford Avenue near Morton Street at around 1 o'clock this morning. He was taken by private vehicle to Rochester General and is expected to survive. Officers surrounded a nearby home and closed roads for several hours, but they were... reopened. No one has been arrested. Two suspects in a deadly parent in shooting will be arraigned this morning on new charges. 27-year-old Destiny Koto and 20-year-old Jackquez Riley Hill were indicted earlier this month on second-degree murder and first-degree robbery. Authorities say the two worked with 35-year-old Tyree Ross Simmons to kill 32-year-old Ezra Nunes last month in his apartment on Pittsburgh-Palmyra Road. Ross Simmons is also facing a murder charge. Rochester police have arrested a teen in a Kenwood Avenue shooting from earlier this month. Officers found a man in his 40s with a serious but not life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body back on June 11th. And investigators now say a 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody after a probation appointment. He's charged with attempted murder, assault, and weapons possession, and is being held at the Monroe County Children's Detention Center. Dave Debo, News Radio, Wham, 1180.

And a missing giraffe is proving how to find than you might think. An escaped giraffe named Gracie's been on the loose in the Texas Hill country for nearly two weeks. Online rumors circulated earlier this week that she had been spotted, but that turned out not to be true. Gracie got away from Cedar Hollow Ranch and has made herself scarce among the area sparse population and huge ranches. The owner is offering a $5,000 a reward for Gracie's safe return. But they're still searching there. Here's my thought. If the giraffe is loose, do we have to catch it? In fact, alternate storyline here, how about we get another giraffe? Whichever flavor the first one was male or female, there being no Democrat giraffes, there's no confusion about male and female. Whichever one the lost giraffe is, let's get a giraffe of the other sex, okay, and just turn that one loose, maybe with a little bit of clone or some roses. And just let them be. You know what I'm saying? Let them do their thing. Let them eat trees in Texas, right? A lot of, a lot of strange things live in Texas. Think about your cousins. So why not giraffes? Why not giraffes? There's a, in T, T, T, T, T, T, T, T, a little bit of Arizona in New Mexico. There was a period of time when camels lived. There was, I can't remember exactly what army commander it was, but there was some kind of thought about how can we better transit and patrol the American Southwest. And people looked around on the back of their cavalry horses and said, Capi, to me, this looks like a frigging desert. I read a book one time about a guy with 40 thieves, and he lived in a desert, and they had camels, so maybe we ought to get camels over here. And the United States government, like always, having money it needed to spend said, hell yeah, let's get some camels. And so camels were brought from over there to over here. I just want to stop and say, in the 1800s, transporting camels almost halfway around the world. That was a significant task. Somebody should have gotten a positive letter in their file about that one. You know what? You want me to do what? I'm supposed to go to the Middle East, okay? Hey, can I stop off at the Holy Land while I'm there and say hi to Bethlehem? But I go, now here's the thing. Before I go, you're going to have to write it on the requisition form. You want the one hump camel or the two hump camel? So at any rate...

I think it was two humps they brought over. And there were camels there. And like a fair number of very expensive federal government projects, it just didn't work, right? The camels looked around and said, I thought I was here for a cigarette commercial and said, this is not like where I'm from, kids. And at any rate, they turned the camels loose because that worked so well with horses in the American West. But the camels got turned loose. And for some number of years, the story was among ranchers and folks out that way, Native Americans and others, yeah, I saw either a horribly misshapen deer or one of those camels came through last night, okay? And in fact, its toe looked an awful lot like, well, let's never mind. Let's not have that conversation now. But at any rate, after a while, there were no more sightings of the camels. nor were the remains ever discovered. Now, were they taken up into some kind of space vehicle? Have they gone off to live in a commune with the chupacobras? I don't know. But at any rate, if camels can live in Arizona in New Mexico, I don't see why giraffes can't live in Texas. And here's the deal. Like Africa, you've heard of its large continent, a very nice place. Africa, I was going to say Africa as a continent, no doubt, has the best large land mammals. The land mammals of Africa, here's a thing. If you have a zoo and you have animals in your zoo and they did not originate in Africa, man, I don't think I want to be here. There are, no, you got buffalo, okay, and what else? You get to yourself a polar bear and them a little frigging birds that can't fly. But when we get down to, hey, you want to see an otter? That looks like a cat, doesn't it? And if it's not a large African land mammal, I, yeah, no, like the zebras, they all, every freaking kind of antelope you'd ever want to imagine. Lions? Early Native Americans were far better hunters than apparently early Africans. Or there was some aspect of geography or whatever in the Americas that allowed for far more successful hunting than in Africa. Because here's why. If you go back... to before humans got to the Western Hemisphere, we had around here all kind of freaky animals, right? We had some animals that you could stack up next to the cool ones they have in Africa, okay? Like who had the saber-tooth cat? Right here, kids, that was us, okay? US of A had the saber-tooth cat. We had giant sloths. We had, okay, that may not be all that cool. It's so reminiscent, by the way, of your sister-in-law, don't you think? But we had giant camels. We had odd horses of many different varieties. There were a whole bunch. We had like a bison that was about the size of a Winnebago. I mean, literally, there were giant animals around here, mammals. And then the little bearing seed deal happened and upshowed some guys with some little arrowheads and some spears and looked at the various creatures around here and said, I bet we could eat that if we tried. And we don't have any video of Homo sapiens wiping out the megafauna of the Western Hemisphere. But just about the time we believe humans got to this half of the world. all of these big giant animals disappeared. And so we're left with okay. What do we have? What's that? What's they have down in South America? They have like alpacas. And was llama from down there? Okay. What about that big bird that runs real fast? That's from Africa. Austrich, that's another Africa thing. So anyway, we'll leave this alone. You look around the sidewalk looks pretty nice. So, you know, folks have been doing what they're supposed to do. Well, Chick wants that trash can. And apparently, in her entitled world, you can take whatever you want. She's just a couple of steps ahead of the socialist takeover of New York City. Ultimately, you can have whatever you want, but the government has to give it to you. You just can't take it. Okay, not yet, honey. Okay, appreciate you. So what she does is she picks up this trash can. And she wants to steal it, but she does not want to steal the garbage. So she turns it upside down and shakes it and dumps all the garbage out just on the sidewalk. Okay? And then she, a Caucasian chick. And then she pretty heavy set. And she just walks on down the walk, waddle, whatever, down the sidewalk with this stolen trash can.

And, you know, there's very good video of it, and it's like, my gosh, okay? I appreciate your support of the team, but, you know, if you in your heart and mind want one of those trash cans and it does look very nice, maybe you could buy one or something like that. You know, I bet you could track down. You probably have a search tool on your computer or phone. You could, Amazon will get you one of those, no doubt about it. Well, turns out that she was an executive with J.P. Morgan. And she was one of their remaining DEI staff. I say was in both instances because J.P. Morgan saw that and said, oh, crap. And at any rate, she no longer has either the trash can or her job. And here's the deal. um she did something foolish and selfish uh she stole a piece of property that wasn't hers and she took a city street and treated it like it was a garbage dump and um you know neither those things are cool and what goes around comes around so uh at any rate if you ever see a trash can that really appeals to you Honestly, look on Amazon. And the initial conclusions of yesterday are only starker with a little more time to look at them. The person who lost yesterday was Governor Hokel. And I don't say that because she's a Democrat and I'm a Republican and because I spend half my waking hours saying terrible things about her. The reality is that Governor Hokel, whose position relative to her gubernatorial opponent, this Mr. Bruce Blakeman, has improved over the last couple of months, and whose approval rating with the people has likewise approved over the last couple of months, in terms of controlling her party, she got spanked hard. And establishment Democrats pretty much across the state got spanked hard. The significant victory here in Monroe County by Congressman Morelli was really kind of...

one of the more stark exceptions to that rule, his race and the comptroller's race. But by and large elsewhere, folks who were socialist-leaning, they won. And in terms of congressional primaries in the Democratic Party, Zohran Mamdani had all three of his endorsements win, and Kathy Hochul had just one of her endorsements win. And, you know, Hakeem Jeffries, who is the top Democrat in the House representatives, again, I'm a Republican. He's a Democrat. I'm not a big fan. However, his achievement to rise to the top of his party is status as the minority leader of the House. Those are significant, right? That is a big deal. There's no doubt about it. More in a moment. But I was saying about Hakeem Jeffries, in the world of like American government and in the world of the politics of his party, he's a big deal. He's accomplished a lot. He is, if you're into such things, also the first black person ever to be the senior person in his party or her party in the Congress. And, you know, he could theoretically be the Speaker of the House of Representatives come January next. which would make him the first black person ever to be speaker of the House. That's what third in line to the presidency. Again, you know, we may not agree on policies, but looking at the organization chart, that's pretty high up there. So at a victory party, what night before last, where one of the Zohran Mamdani candidates has just knocked off a five-term member of the house in her own party. When a picture of Hakeem Jeffries came up, they started chanting, you're next, you're next, as if he's the next one they want to take down. And, you know, when you are like the high up muck-dy-muck in your party and members of your own party, are chanting for your neck, that's not typically a good sign. Now, I don't know how representative that is of real Democrats, but it's pretty clear that it's representative of these socialist Democrats. And at any rate, how that all works, I guess we've got a front row seat on it. It talked about that poll with Kathy Hochul.

In April, she led Bruce Blakeman 49 to 33. Now she leads Bruce Blakeman 52 to 32. It's not a huge move. But it is a move to her favor. And it also does give her at this stage a 20-point lead over Bruce Blakeman. And, you know, that's an awful lot. And I know we say, oh, plenty of time, Bob. We can make it up. We can get in there. We can fight if we all just out and vote. And, you know, I, yep, sure. All of that is true. Uh-huh. But it's been true every four years for the last forever. And it's never come true any of those every four years in the last forever. Also, here's a thing. Kathy Hochul. has an approval rating of 53%, which, you know, is not huge, okay? However, she's above 50%. And for a modern American politician, that's pretty good. And it is upward progress for her. So anyway, that's where things stand. One other factor in the gubernatorial election, while we have half a moment before the break, in April, in April, Independence in the state of New York leaned Bruce Blakeman plus two percentage points, right? Bruce Blakeman had a two percentage point advantage among independence. Right now, Kathy Hochul has a five point advantage among independence. So the move in support over the last two months has been among independence. which, you know, if you're Bruce Blakeman in this matter, would be an, uh-oh, kind of thing, because, you know, independence, there are a lot of you, wonderful folks, and you get to decide who wins elections.
