Just after 603, outside the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the home of Jefferson, Madison, and Henry. I am Scott Lee filling in for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News. Thanks for waking up with us this morning. Man, the big sad news this morning I woke up to. By the way, I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I don't know what's wrong with me this morning. It must be the back-to-back, you know, yesterday and today. I'm not used to getting up and driving from the metropolis of Midlothian to over here in the Henrico County area. Which, by the way, I'm a huge fan of Henrico County. Yeah. All right, we are up and right. By the way, this text line is great to you. 833, 804, 1140. Good morning. I read first thing this morning about the RVA Santa. Did you hear the RVA Santa passing? Yeah. I mean, that's a tough time to pass. I mean, here we are at the edge of the Christmas season, and Central Virginia's beloved RVA Santa has passed away. quote his in his Facebook page it reads his legacy will live on countless families he's touched and cherished memories he created and of course the joy brought to every holiday season r a santa if you don't know was kind of like the holiday mainstay of the uh green top location in ashland so everyone kind of knew who this guy was and now i know the rules because i saw home alone the movie home alone when he When a little kid went up to Santa and goes, hey, I need you to help me out. And he goes, I know how it works. You're not the real Santa. You help Santa. You can communicate with Santa. So obviously, this RVA Santa was not the real Santa for those listening, those kids who woke up early this morning. The real Santa is perfectly fine. He was the conduit here in Richmond here in Richmond, here in Richmond, he's passed.

2:13

is going to take over and continue the tradition of the next generation of the RVA Santa so we don't lose our conduit into the real Santa. Now, is this the Santa that does the end of the parade? Remember how the Christmas parade? What is the insanely good question? I don't know the answer to that. I know that he was the staple at the Green Top one, and Green Top actually has a statement that said they're deeply saddened by the loss and thanked RV Santa for the magic and memories. They went on to say he brought so much joy not only to the kids who lit up the site for him, but to our entire Green Top staff. So it sounds like he was the RVA Santa at Green Top, which was critical. But again, this is, of course, it's horrible news. You hate to hear this. This guy was certainly dedicated to the cause and did a great job for Central Virginia. We know that his grandson's going to take over and remain that conduit into the real Santa. I mean, obviously real Santa's, this is Christmas coming up. Right, yeah. Yeah, we lost the RVA Santa here in Richmond, which is quite sad. Growing up as a kid, I remember there was also a Sergeant Santa that was around here. Yeah, what was that wrong? Why does that ring a bell so much? Well, I think you used to be, I think you used to work with the Salvation Army around here, but, but he walked around kind of in like fatigues. But that was the thing growing up. I remember like in the 80s, in the 90s, Sergeant Santa. Yeah, good. Yeah, good. I love the whole. I think if you're, if you are. like the perfect Santa Claus. Like you got the weight thing. You got the white beard. You got, it's actually quite magical. You know, if you could pull that off really and truly, that's amazing. You know, it's the fake Santas that really bother. I mean, the fake fake Santas. I mean, they're all kind of fake because the real one we don't see. But the real ones that are real logistic and like magical looking, those are pretty cool. Those are like you're walking and go, wow, that's, that's amazing. That's like, that was cosplay before cosplay was a thing. Right. I mean, seriously. Right. Exactly. So we lost the RV Santa this morning. That was the first thing I saw, and I was devastated by that. All right, Pac Show coming ahead, coming up. We are going to get into, what's the reaction to Jay Jones? I've heard some things that people, that some police officers are leaving the state. they're like, I'm not going to stick around for this. And, you know, you're like, why? I don't get it. What was wrong with Jay Jones? Anyway, so they are, they're considering bolting. We have the Loudoun Cowan Sheriff. I said some things. So I want to get, we're going to get into that a bit. But then that's what interesting to happen in Montana, a person who's running for public office calls the senator of Montana. and tells them they hope they die and get cancer, they'll probably win too. Anyway, we'll talk about that coming up in this program. I want to get to that for sure. By the way, Target smiles. It's called Their 10-4. I'm going to share that with you at the bottom of this hour. Actually, we have a pretty cool little clip from the past for you on that. It's actually something the Lee brothers did about Target in 2012.

5:26

And actually, we're going to talk about that at the 735 hour about what target means. Could you imagine being told if you're in a work environment? You need to start smiling. This is, I mean, there might be a problem inherently that they didn't. We'll get into that at 635. State spending, up or down, you think, are the last three or four years. Definitely up. Right? I got each year's calculation. I'm going to share that with you. And then I'm going to go into the new bills that Democrats have already pre-filed. I've got them in my hand. I want to go over those in great detail and tell you why you should be holding on to your pocketbook and purse and wallet. And then why we might be a little bit concerned. Chick-fil-A has a new sandwich. They're testing it in a couple locations. Instead of a bun, it's a waffle. Did you hear this? Well, you're not in your head like you know what's going on here. I just found this out. Actually, I saw a picture of it. The picture is more appealing than me saying waffle chicken. I would never order that thing. Never. Maybe get into that. Hold on. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. So every time they post a picture of food, it always looks better than when you actually get it. It sure does. I mean, they dress it up with paint and whatever, acrylic, however they do it. It's all marketing. It's all slick. The lettuce is always soggy, no matter where you go. And the commercial, it's all crunchy. It's lettuce under there. I don't get lettuce. Not anymore. Yeah. I mean, it's all marketing. It's all show. It's the reason we're dressed up this morning, and no one can see us. By the way, I love that tie. It's phenomenal. I'm very impressed that you put a tie on this morning. I have a tie on every day. That's impressive. It's impressive. Listen, we celebrate 100 years. At least the least thing I can do is. That's true. A hundred years thing I can do. A hundred years signal. Man, now I really feel bad. I have a button-down shirt, but no tie. You can do it tomorrow. That's true. I've got the rest of the week. I'm here the rest of the week. I can wear a tie the rest of the week. Bang. And honor of WRAVA, the voice of Virginia for a century. One more thing. What do you think it costs in the Commonwealth of Virginia to raise a child under five? Just give me a, I mean, I raise four, but I can do the math on this. And by the way, this number is extremely low. But just recent, according to smart asset, new data. It says the cost to raise a family or a child in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

7:54

is under five is $28,300 annually. Well, I think I saw the stats about a month or so ago. I think just to be a single in Virginia, it's like 120 or something, 109 to 120. And then to be a single person? Yeah, for like, you know, for cost of living. And then for a family of four, it was like 250 plus, I think, a year. There's no way that one person. is $109,000. There's no way. For a cost to live it out of us. It was, like I said, it was interesting. But, you know, seeing, of course, the family of the family of four, 250,000 a year. Like, I mean, it's just, but then, but then again, you're just saying just from one to five is just 28,000 a year. You get a couple of those. Bam bam, bam. So this represents a 3.8% increase from last year, according to this data. Then there's this quote in here from Wendy Malfour Malfi, a mother of three. She says, well, I think it's scary. I think they're, I think they are holding off of having kids right now because the price of housing, price of rent, everything is more expensive than it was when I was 26 and thinking about starting a family. Okay. So what she's saying is there's people holding off because it's expensive to have a kid. Now, if everyone did that, there would be no kids, okay? I mean, that is not the way to think about children, in my opinion, radically. I mean, oh, I can't have kids right now. Got a six-pack in my hand every weekend. I mean, there's other things you can think about that think. In other words, you can rationalize anything. The greatest thing that happens to people, and it's the truth when they're married is they have kids and they weren't even expecting it. And then they have all sudden one or two kids. It's the blessings of their lives. It changes everything. It changes the way you think, the direction you're going. And it is good for society. It is the actual foundation of civilization. We argue a lot in politics about... Oh, we need a bill for this and our country's failing and we're lost our moral direction. Well, it all starts with kids and families and marriages. This is the foundation of our culture and society. When you have people who graduate from high school, get married, get a job, and have kids, that order, you are successful in the United States of America. And that builds this underpinning for our country that we need. We have people now who aren't having kids. And it's hurting our country. It's hurting our country because we're losing that foundation. And when I was a kid, we sat at the kitchen table and had dinner every night. Nobody went out for dinner. I couldn't even get up from the table unless my dad finished. And he said, don't get up until you ask to be excused and thank your mother for the dinner. Who's doing that today? 614. Richmond's Morning News. I'm Scott Lee, filling in Rich Herrera, News Radio, WRVA. Scott Lee, and for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News, how will Abigail Spanberger govern different than Yon because she's a woman? Forget policy. We are told that we elected a woman, and that means she'll govern different than a man. Virginia's become the 33rd state to elect a female governor. So this isn't like new. But we're told this is like a big deal because remember, identity politics is everything, right? A woman will give us something different than a man. What is that? What bill? What policy? Give me a bill or policy that Abigail Spanberger will introduce because she's a woman.

11:35

that a man couldn't introduce. I'm just, I don't know what that is. I'm willing to learn. Here's something else that happened in Virginia. The women representation in the Virginia house went up to 42. Now the house only has a hundred people in it. 42 of them are female. They used to be only, it used to be 34 female. All right. So we got a lot of emotion. I'm a huge fan of women, by the way. Don't get me wrong. We got a lot of emotion now in the house and those areas. So women are dominating politics everywhere, right? Except Michelle Obama's upset. She doesn't think we're ready for any women. Do you think that that impacts the room that we've made for a woman to be president? Well, as we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain't ready. We ain't. That's why I'm like, don't even look at me about running because you all are lying. You're not ready for a woman. You are not. So don't waste my time. You know, we got a lot of growing up to do. And there's still, I'm sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman and we saw it. When? Virginia. What was the question? All right, enough of that. It's ridiculous. That is the most absurd thing. As if we're supposed to vote because she's in heels. We're supposed to vote. I guess in today's culture, it could be a guy in heels. It doesn't matter. But we're supposed to just vote because it's a woman? As if nothing else matters blindly. Just vote for a woman because... Hey, listen, they check a box and so should you. Good point. Just check the box, guy. Just check it. This is so disgusting this kind of identity politics. Meanwhile, I just shared with you. We picked a female governor here. Is Virginia not ready? Is that at Michelle Obama? Come lecture us and tell us we're not ready for a woman. Whatever. You know what matters? I still think matters. I still think it matters. American people are not voting on gender. It could be women are. I actually have that stat I might share with you next. It's Scott Lee and for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News, News Radio, WRVA. Good morning, just after the bottom of the hour. We are live outside the Capitol of this great Commonwealth on a 50,000-watt News Radio, WRVA, the voice of Virginia. where I'm sure Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Patrick Henry would be listening. And approving, by the way, which matters greatly. They'd probably write to get together with Hamilton, John Jay, and Madison, and write a Federalist paper about the 100 years of News Radio, WRBA. It wouldn't be 85. It'd probably be more like eight. Eight essays, not 85, like the Federalist paper. But it would be quite the entertainment to listen to all the things that Richmond has heard for 100 years.

14:40

here on News Radio WRBA. And actually what's interesting about it is when I think about that and how the Lee brothers ended up getting here and just being a part of it, in my mind, I've got a story, and someday I'm going to tell this on the air about how we ended up on this station. It's hilarious. And I've told this to people, and they said there's no way of how it happened. And I'm dead serious. It's exactly how it happened. And not only did we get... I want to tell it so bad. The program director at that time in 20, whatever it was, brought us into the office to talk to us about doing the show and spent the first 10 minutes destroying us. I remember thinking, what am I doing here? It was unbelievable. We're so fortunate to be part of WRVA. So thank you so much for letting me, Scott Lee, fit in, sit in for Rich Herrera here on Richmond's Morning News. I noticed Target, and by the way, I don't go to Target. I don't. I used to years, years ago, when they first put the new Target down there at 288 and Hull Street, I went to that target because it's brand new, right? It just built a thing, and I went in there. I was like, that's pretty nice. I'm not a Target fan, essentially. But I haven't been there. I haven't been in a Target, I can't tell you how long. I just... Just don't go in there. It doesn't appeal to me. It's actually a very leftist kind of organization anyway. You know, they're whacked. As, you know, that's not a reason not to shop there because I'm not a big boycott or person because quite frankly, everything I buy, I could find a reason to boycott for some reason, right? I'd end up starving in the street buying nothing. So you can't do that. But Target has a new policy. It's called their 10-4 policy. So it requires employees here within 10 feet of customer. Okay. Smile, make eye contact, wave, and use friendly, approachable, and welcoming body language, unquote. Okay. Now. Some of that stuff, to me, if you're working in the retail environment, this is natural part of working in that environment. It's almost like these things that don't need to be said. I'm hiring you to engage the public. Guess what's required when you engage the public, right? It's like if I have to tell you to do certain things, you really shouldn't even be working here. If I have to tell you to smile, To smile at someone who's 10 feet away from you. Then you shouldn't even be here. If you can't enjoy your job and smile, don't be in that job. Do you know Chick-fil-A, which is really interesting to me? Chick-fil-A has the most stringent hiring processes. I have talked to people who kids who go into interview at Chick-fil-A who didn't get hired. And they didn't get hired, and they weren't told why, but they're certain, they ask these questions to find out where your mindset is and how you think. And they want you to be ecstatic about saying, my pleasure.

17:46

Thank you. And so here's Target going. We got to do something. Our people sock to hate us. And morale has to improve or the beatings will continue, right? We will beat you until morale improves. And here's your 10-4 policy. You must smile if you're in 10 feet. If you're within four feet, okay, here's the four-feet one. You must personally greet the guest, of course, smile and initiate a warm, helpful interaction. Target, you've already lost. you've already lost. If you have to put a policy in like that with your employees who apparently hate what they do, you've already lost. Forget the policy. Like I said, we're going to continue to beat you until morale improves is not the way to do this, right? You ought to look internally and say, why aren't our people happy? No pizza parties. Yeah. Why do people suck here? Why do people, when they come into Target, look around and everyone's like, You know, look like they've been sucking on green persimmons or something. They look horrible. They're mad. They're angry. That's a cultural thing that you can't overcome with a 10-4 cute little statement. Oh, and by the way, imagine policing this. You're a manager walking around. You were nine feet from that customer, and you didn't smile. Damn, you're going to learn to smile, or I'm going to beat the crap. Or you're going to fire you, right? I mean, what a great environment to work in. So Jeremy and I were talking last night about this whole thing about Target. And he reminded me that we did a show on this. The Lee Brothers did a show on Target in 2012. We did a show about Target. I want to play it for you. Here it is. Lee Brothers on 1140 WRBA. Make sure you check us out at WRI.com keyword Lee Brothers. There's a video there about immigration. I think you'll find out why the debate is getting tougher. Okay, women are upset when they're complimented on their looks. Some are. They're upset when they're not. And they're upset when they shop at Target. So much so that Target apologized. Some Target shoppers saw a label that listed the color of a plus-sized dress as manatee gray. while the label on the same dress in a smaller size describe it as dark heather gray what what woman takes time out of her day to look at the plus-sized dress and says manatee gray and says, I'm offended. It didn't say mastodon gray. It didn't say bull elephant gray. It didn't say rhino gray. It didn't say whale shark gray. It didn't say beast whale gray. It didn't say you're fat if you buy this dress gray. Manatees aren't manatees gray? And some are thin. Yeah, and some are small. Just because they have no shape to them. It doesn't mean if you buy this dress and put it on, you're going to look like a leased manate. It doesn't look like that. It doesn't mean that. People are offended by this. And Target feels like they need to respond and apologize? That's as crazy as a complaint. It's just hilarious. That a corporation, if I was Target, I would bust out laughing.

20:57

You know, if I was Target, I'd say, seriously? Seriously, this is what you're upset over? I mean, Rome burns. The country's falling apart. You've got a president telling an AG she's pretty, and you're worried about a dress. You've got people faking hate crime, and you're worried about a dress. Exactly. This is a hate crime. Unbelievable. So Target apologized for the label. A spokeswoman called the labeling of the brand Women's Plus Size Max Dress on unintentional oversight. Are women really, would you really be offended by this? This woman says to Target, manatee gray is actually a seasonal color that is used across product categories at Target.com from apparel items to home items. It's not the size. It's not even about. It's the color. It's exactly. It's not even about the animal. Would you buy a dress called Beached Whale Blue? Think about that for a second. Well, here's the idea, and this is going to be quite offensive, but. If you're buying this, it got bad after that. We got carried away. By the way, that was the Lee brothers talking about Target in 2012. 2012 I mean when I was looking at that I was like that's insane and by the way I miss Richard his voice just makes me almost cry because he passed away and that's why the Lee brothers were kind of uphold that 21 year tradition here you can check us out at the Leebrothers.com there's a bio there about Richard and kind of telling you about how the Lee brothers came to be all at the Leebrothers.com but I thought that I thought that segment was interestingly timing timely perfect For what we're talking about with Target and their new 10-4 policy. 13 years ago. Isn't that crazy? Target's still clowning itself. Did you see the picture of us on the thing there? Because it's a YouTube clip, right, with a picture of Richard and I standing there? Yeah. Yeah. I haven't aged a bit, have my little gray hair. You don't look at Day Past 21. You're still, you still get carded if you didn't have the stubble. I've got the, I'm a grandfather now. So that certainly wasn't the case then, by the way, obviously. But I'm a one-year-old little great girl. Anyway, I thought that was interesting. A lot of fun. Thank you, WRVA, for letting me. play that clip and a lot of fun here on Richmond's Morning News. I'm Scott Lee filling in for Rich Herrera. News Radio, WRVA. We're a creative group here. That's awesome. Scott Lee and for Rich Herrera. This is Richmond's Morning News. Glad you are with us. Manatee Gray, right? Manatee, I got it. I mean, and... You got, oh, you got, so you, you bought one? No, I didn't. Oh, oh, oh. I got your take there on the song that matches that what the Lee brothers did in 2012, talking about the manatee.

23:44

clothing from Target. By the way, I'm going to post that at the Leebrothers.com, just so people can go back and listen at some point and what happened in 2012 on WRVA and the Lee brothers were doing that skit. I just can't believe how it fit with the target conversation we were having like real time and then that was perfect. I'm grateful for WRVA for that. Chick-fil-A, I'm grateful for too. A huge fan of them. I go there as much as I can, which is probably too much, but I love their Chick-Flea sandwich. But you're already throwing shade on this waffle sandwich. Yeah, I'm not a fan of this thing. It's called Chicken and Waffles Breakfast Sandwich, I'm assuming it would only be served during the breakfast time frame. It's just a guess. And it's going to be in Baltimore stores and San Antonio stores only from December 1st to January 24th as they test it. Actually, wait a minute. I think that they actually have two different ones. They have like a sandwich one and then a breakfast one. So the waffle sizes is like two different sizes. At least that's what I remember seeing one interwebs. That's interesting. Yeah. I will never order it. I will never order it. I'm not a waffle fan. I don't like waffles. Never had waffles. Your pancake guy? Not a pancake guy either. I don't eat at one of those. French toast. There you just keep going. None of those. None of those at all. I think it's interesting about the food industry as how they're always trying to up each other with some new invention, right? They're always got, and by the way, Taco Bell is excellent at this. I'm a huge taco. I love Taco Bell. I'll go in there and grab a quick burrito or something, but they always have something new that's so good. Like they're grilled cheese burrito. I'm going to tell you right now. You need to try the grilled cheese. It's awesome. Makes me hungry thinking about it. Grilled cheese. Is it just wait? It's the burrito and they grill it with cheese on it and actually grill it. And it's like melting on it hop. Oh, it's so good. And that was a new invention for them not so long ago. Now, KFC has their own new invention. KFC has a pop-up store in New York City that sells chicken, obviously. It's called Sundays. Now, why do you think they call it Sundays? Because Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday. So it's like a punch in the face. They're like going at each other like crazy. And so they're come up with a Chick-fil-A attack by calling it Sundays. And because Chick-fil-A is closed on Sunday. Which, by the way, I am also a huge fan of that. I think that's awesome. Now, it is frustrating when you're traveling on Sunday. I want Chick-Flei sandwich. You always want Chick-fil-A on Sunday. That's a thing. That's right. But have they missed a beat because of that? No. Do they actually get a kudos for it? I think they do. I think their employees love it. I think most people are like, it doesn't bother me. I'll just go on Monday or Saturday. Obviously, they could do more business they were open on Sunday. KFC's like, yeah, we're sticking it to them. And they're like, yeah, well, we have the day off. Yeah, exactly. That really sucks. Why don't you just go to work on Christmas Day, too? I mean, it's just the way, I guess, how competitive the chicken sandwich market is.

26:41

Big chicken. Yeah. Which? Big chicken. Big chicken. You know how they are. Right. You got to watch out for big chicken. Watch out for big chicken. Hey, coming up. I want to talk about, is state spending up or down? And what bills have the Democrats already submitted that will impact you? I'll share that with you next. This is Richmond's Morning News. I'm Scott Lee in for Rich Herrera. News Radio, WRBA. Just after 704 outside the capital of this great com wealth, I am Scott Lee. Fill it in for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News. Virginia Citizens and American Patriots. I used to say that all the time on the show. It was great. I love that statement, by the way. And by the way, you can find out more about Virginia Citizens and American Patriots at the Leebrothers.com. We define where that came from and what was meant by that. And I want to thank you for some of the great texts about the Target clip we played earlier. I'm going to try to, I'm serious, I'm going to try to post that. That's a YouTube clip we made in 2012. of the Lee brothers talking about Target and how timely it is. We had that conversation yesterday. Some of you chimed in here and said it was hilarious. It was a lot of fun. That was mainly because of Richard, but a lot of fun back then. I'll post that on our... You got some more of those, right? There's others. There's a ton out there. Yeah, they're floating around somewhere. And the ones that are safe for work now. I know your comedy changes after 13 years and everybody gets upset. Actually, back then, we were very tight. Blip, man. We handled it pretty good. A couple of little slips, but most part, we were pretty safe for work and everything else. We're on a delay. That's true. That's true. I forgot about that. That's an incredibly important point. Text line 833, 804, 1140. Thanks for the comments there. Rich Herrera will be back. I promise you. It'll be after Thanksgiving, but he's coming back. Right? Rich Herrera, is it after Thanksgiving? No. No, he's coming back before then. And next week, he's coming back. I was going with that. At 7.30, he will be here. We'll have him on the phone. But when he really comes back and takes his seat back and kicks me out of the studio is what is really important to the listeners, I think. I think they care greatly about that. They're like, when the hell is Rich getting back? Okay. So he is coming back. We'll talk with him in about 25 minutes from Sicily. And he's with a bunch of you. Listeners that coming up. State spending has it gone up or down? What are you kidding me? Government can never get smaller. When Trump tried to take the behemoth that is the federal government that has bounced outside the bounds of the Constitution in Article 1, Section 8, the enumerated powers, I wish people would really look into that. It's like the argument about what government should do at the federal level was already discussed and settled. It's in the Constitution. The Constitution United States was written to limit the federal government. That's the entire point of it. And then in Article 1, Section 8, it even goes deeper and says, here are the things the federal government can do, and everything else is left to the people in the states. That would be amendments 9 and 10. If we had a knowledge of that, don't you think our government would be different? But Trump went in there and he goes, look.

30:05

We need Doge. We're going to eliminate some government agencies and shrink it down to inside its constitutional bounds, which we wouldn't even do that. I mean, if you cut 10%, people would freak out. And look what happened. People absolutely freaked out. All we had to do, all we tried to do is cut a little bit of federal government. It is never, ever getting smaller. No government gets smaller, ever. And those who complain about cuts and those cuts, there's never been a cut anywhere on the planet for anything. By the way, even with the tax cuts, revenue has exploded. We've never had less revenue. We have more revenue flown into the federal treasury than we've ever had, ever. And those nasty Trump cuts, they hurt us. We got more money than ever. We have a spending problem in D.C. And we have one here coming in Richmond, too. In Virginia, the General Assembly's Joint Investigative Division, J. Lark, some call it, reported a general fund spending growing at an average annual rate of 7.1% over the past decade. Over the past decade, government spending in Virginia rose 7.1%. Spending increases were even larger in the past four fiscal years, raising 13.6% in 22, 15% in 2020. 3.2% in 2024 and rising to 13.4% this year. I tell you that for a reason. The General Assembly will be back in January, and there will be income tax increases. There'll probably be a mansion tax, a wealth tax, talked about this yesterday on the show. For what? To fund this aggressive growth spree has your income? gone up 13.4% this year? Government spending did? Has your income gone up 3.2% like it did last year at the government level? Of course not. So I got my hands on the bills that have been pre-filed by the Democrats. And I thought this was interesting, especially as it impacts us here in Richmond or in Virginia on Richmond's Morning News here on WRVA. So I mentioned this yesterday as a pre-filing going on right now. So a lot of the General Assembly is doing what politicians do. They introduce bills. When they should be repealing bills, that's what I would love to see. If we have 100 House of Delegates members and they all went out and repealed three bills each, it'd be 300 more freedom established. Instead of putting your name on a bill, how about put your names on bills you got rid of? How about that idea? How about going to Washington and saying, here are the three bills I want to get rid of. I'd rather repeal laws than make them. Expand freedom rather than shrink it. But that's not what's happening so far, at least in the pre-filing of bills that are going to flow into the General Assembly. And that pre-filing ends December 1st, so there'll be a bunch coming up here in the next week or so. Here's a couple of them. Just so you know that the Democrats have submitted. I think some of these are probably, we knew it was coming. The constitutional amendment to abortion. That's coming. Now, I don't know how you feel about abortion, but a constitutional amendment to that seems outrageous when there's...

33:37

life, liberty, and the proofs of happiness seems to be before that. But forget the whole, I guess we could debate that whole thing. But it's always interesting to me in that debate, though. Why can't anyone who's on the pro-abortion side at least tell me, and I've had this conversation many times, when should the government protect life? Just, that seems like a legitimate real question that all of us could ask. But that's not what this amendment is. It's a constitutional, fundamentally right to reproductive freedom. It'll say abortion. Of course, they word it reproductive freedom, which, by the way, everyone has reproductive freedom right now. And there's no constitutional amendment for it. But you do have this abortion that wants to be codified inside the Constitution of Virginia. Provides that every individual has a fundamental right to abort. Fundamental right. A right to take a life. which seems outrageous. So that's one of the pre-filed bills that has now hit the General Assembly before December 1st that the Democrats are putting forth. Here's another one that I think this will impact us greatly. This is paid sick leave. Now, I love the big heartiness of this, you know. I mean, if you could be a politician on a throne somewhere with a magic wand, and you could decide what every employer... to do with every employee. Forget their own little debate that they have among themselves. When you go make a high, you know, you interview and you go through the hiring process, you can debate those things back and forth and you usually forget all that. Who needs that? I want a king somewhere on a throne in Richmond to decide what my employer should do for me. That's what I want. I mean, it seems easier that way, right? And essentially, that's what this bill is with paid sick leave. See, a politician somewhere said, it's not fair that somebody's sick and their employer doesn't let them go do what they need to do which by the way is a very rare thing i mean there i don't know any employer that their employee calls up and goes look i've got a problem i'm sick that my kid's sick my whatever i've lost a family yeah there go you that's it you're done i mean and if that happened then good you don't want to be there anyway right but leave it up to a politician This is introduced by Cordes Fowler. She's the chief patron, Democrat, paid sick leave for all employees of private employers in the state and local governments. All private employers. You will now offer a 30-hour works for, what, one hour of paid sick leave. You're thinking, Scott, that's not much. It's a regulation forced upon a private employer, just like the next bill that was filed. which was an increase in a minimum wage. Now, I remember having a dinner conversation with my kids when they were in high school, very young. And I asked them, should there be a minimum wage? Just conversation around the dinner table, you know. You can't get up until I say you're excused and thank your mother for dinner, right? So a two-hour dinner, I remember asking the kids this. It's just like a teenage kid, you know, should there be a minimum wage? What do you think they all said? Of course, right? Of course, Dad, it should be a minimum wage. I said, let me ask you a question. If the government can set a minimum wage, can they set a maximum wage? Quiet. Then they said, well, yeah, I guess they can. Should there be a limit on the maximum you can make? And they go, no, I don't like that idea. Oh? Okay. But the government should set the wage, a minimum wage. Yes, Dad, they should. Okay. What should it be?

37:18

Let's have this conversation. What should minimum wage be? It ought to be at least $10 an hour, Dad. Why? Because that seems reasonable. Can you live on $10 an hour? Actually, I can't. I need to make more than that. Well, then why set it at 10? What should it be? Give me, you're a magic what? You're a politician. You've got the wand. You got the whole General Assembly on your side. You've got 64 Democrats in the House. What should be a living wage? $50. $50. Why not? If the government can set the wage and it's based upon what people can live on, not work, remember, that's what it's based on, right? We've got on motion now. It's all based on what people can live on. It should be $50 an hour. Then let's establish it. This puny bill that is in my hand only takes it to the $15 an hour. How mean and ugly are these Democrats? Only 15? It is not right. It's wrong. That's not. It's not a livable wage. Can you live on 15? No, absolutely not. This is repugnant. It should be $50 an hour, not 15. Move on that quickly. This is Scott Lee, and for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News. News Radio, WRVA. There you go. Good morning. Richmond's Morning News. Scott Lee and for Rich Herrera. By the way, I just want to tell you, my kids finally agreed that the minimum wage was stupid. Should not be, should not exist. So they're smart kids. But that doesn't mean we're not going to get a big increase in our minimum wage. Thank you. Democrats have already submitted that bill. I've talked a lot about the public school system and how important it is that we have competition and choice in schools. I always find it interesting that you move into a neighborhood. and you're told this is your school. You're not told this is your pharmacy. You're not told this is your restaurant. You're not told this is your grocery store. You're not told those things because you can shop those things. Oh, but the school your kids are going to is right here. Well, I don't like that school. Too bad. Sucks to be you if you live here. That just is too bad. It's the weirdest thing. We accept that as human beings. We go, okay, that's my school. I got it. Let me be a little robot and get in line and go to my school no matter what they teach or say. The public schools have been public run indoctrination centers for a long time. And the biggest example of this is just walking your school and talk. But the second one is what happened this week. This is the Michigan State Superintendent of Public Schools in Michigan. Sue Carnell was asked this. Here's the pre-clip of it. How many genders are there? How many genders are there? Different people have different beliefs on that. Oh, my God. Well, you can believe all you want, but science says there's two. Well, don't do that to her. By the way, she should have seen the video. Her face is like, uh-oh, what do I do? She's the superintendent of public schools in Michigan. She's teaching those kids, and she can't do that. By the way, she's not alone. Our own Supreme Court Ketanji Brown Jackson Ketanji Brown Jackson, couldn't answer the question either. So, I mean, come on. When does this end, folks? When do we finally say, you're right since the beginning of time? There are two genders. It's the reason we have separate bathrooms and locker rooms. In fact, without those things, there is no civilization. It's a complete breakdown of everything we know. And the superintendent of public schools in Michigan says, dear end headlights, I don't know. Scott Lee and for Rich Herrera on News Radio, WRVA.

In the world is Carmen San Diego. Steal their soul in South Korea. You stunned me there. I was completely stunned with the music. I was like, when am I? Here we go. That's as it. Good morning. Just after the bottom of the hour, we're live outside the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the home of Jefferson, Patrick Henry, George Mason, James Madison. I can go on. I could go on. And it's also the home of Rich Herrera. Now, it's his home. But he's not here, which is why you're listening to me sitting in this whole week while Rich Herrera is, okay, he's on vacation. You think it's a work vacation? No, he's on vacation. And I'm a little jealous because I'm a listener at WRVA and I got rejected from going on this trip. I submitted my paperwork and it came right back to me. Nice try. That's all it said. Nice try and the thing. I'm like, what? Okay. Anyway, Rich Herrera joins us right now from Sicily. Rich? Good morning, bonjourno, and here with 22 of my best friends, and we just enjoyed going to Taramina, and we ate some gelato, had some lunch, ate some pizza, we went shopping. I'll eat your heart out. This is awesome. Pizza's different in Italy, isn't it? I had pizza last night from Domino's. Is it different in Italy? Just a little bit different. The margarita. The cheese doesn't go all the way across, so there's like splotches of no cheese on top of the sauce. But the crust was incredible, and the fresh mozzarella was to die for. Is this the best part of the – well, I'm not going to say the best part, but it's obviously a perk of this trip is the food, right, Rich? The food is incredible. So I've tried to have as much as I can. I've also, and now everybody here is on the trip with me, understands that I have the, well, I have the palate of an eight-year-old. I like eating a lot of hamburgers and chicken strips and tried chicken and stuff. But I've been expanding my horizons. I learned how to eat salad with oil and balsamic vinegar, thanks to my friends sitting over here. We had colomari. I've had many, many different things that I've never had before my life, and it's been incredible. That's outstanding. What a lot of fun. It sounds great. I know people here miss having you here but are enjoying this update for our listeners who got to go on this trip. And there's 22 of them again, Rich. Is that right? Yep. There's 24 total. There's 22 of us that are WRVA listeners. Do you want to say hi? Who? Me? I want to say hi. Yeah. Hold on. Let me put you on speaker. Hold on. Hold on. Can you hear me? I can hear you. Okay. Say hi to all of our listeners. Hi. When Toronto. Hello from Richmond. We're all jealous and miss you greatly. Have a safe and wonderful trip. Thank you. Grazie. Grazie. That's right. Grazie. That's good. This afternoon, taking a Jeep tour up to Mount Edna. I am not going to take that because I don't want to get car six. So instead, I'm going to just love it by sitting by the pool right off the Mediterranean enjoying this great weather, nice offshore breeze after I had some gelato and some pizza. And they don't have Diet Coke here, so it's Coke zero. And I've actually learned how to order that.

44:15

Italian, so I've been able to enjoy that, and they know to bring me ice, and that's been great. I did watch TV yesterday, and there's only one channel that it was in English, that was CNN International, and after I got tired of watching that nonsense, I spent the rest of the day watching Bewitched in Italian. Oh, wow. That's it. Did they have subtitles, or just that must be like the lips? No, no, just straight up. No, no, just straight up Samantha speaking Italian with Tabitha and Darren and Indora, and that's when I ended up watching yesterday. So I was going to ask you, Rich, is your schedule like, it doesn't sound like it's packed full? You're not running from one thing to the next. It is kind of an open freedom kind of more a vacation, right? Am I wrong? No, it is. It's the best of both. So we've got a wonderful, wonderful tour manager named for Arsario. Guys, what do you think of Rosario? Yeah, so they love him. So he oversees everything the night before he puts up a paper that tells us what the schedule is for the day, what time we have breakfast, what time we have to meet the bus, what time we have to luggage out of for changing hotels, and then he has a day plan for us. And if you want to participate, great. And if you do, great. If you don't, you don't. And there's people that have ducked out of here, ducked out of there. Like, I'm going to duck out of the Jeep ride. Just to sit here and enjoy this beautiful beach. And we've seen so many great historic things. And it's just interesting. The layers of culture that you have from the Greeks, the Rosemans, the Byzantines, to the Arabs. And it's just fascinating looking at this culture. I can imagine the other aspect of this is the relationship you're making with some of the listeners. You're really solidifying some relationships. You'll probably have, Rich, for maybe the rest of your life. Oh, yeah. I mean, they talk about its family. We really are. We're all traveling together. Has anybody gotten tired of anybody yet? No, no. Has anybody got tired of me yet? Yeah, I've got a couple of years and it's been fun. And, you know, it's fun on the bus. Rosario asks us, hey, don't you sit in the same place. Sit with different people get to know them. Yeah, right. We sit with different people. We split around and... We sit at different people for dinner, and it's been great. Some of us have gone off on our own to dinner with different folks, and everybody here is just so nice. Let me ask you a question. Are they all from the Richmond area, or are they all over the Commonwealth, or even outside the Commonwealth? We have one Georgian, somebody from Atlanta. Everybody else is from central Virginia, from Midlothian to short pump and all throughout central Virginia. So it's been a lot of fun. And we've been checking, you know, we check the UVA score and the Virginia Tech score. And people are talking that Virginia Tech's getting a new football coach. So we're doing a little bit of everything. So, Rich, I just want everyone there to know that. that they're pre-filing bills for the General Assembly now. Are they concerned about that? Are people talking about pre-filing of bills in the General Assembly? Well, Rosario told us, Rosario told us no politics. We're on vacation. We're supposed to relax. But as we slip aside, you know, we're all talking and we're all kind of shaking our heads of some of the stuff. I told everybody the first English TV I've seen it a week was a lawyer from Richmond who's suing Trump.

47:34

the Trump administration over the ballroom. And that's the first thing I saw. I'm like, oh, great, he's from Richmond. First person I saw. So that's when I decided to start watching Bewitched an Italian. Yeah, no kidding. Right. Bonjourno, Darren. Oh, but enjournal. So what's next for you today? When you hang up this phone and you get off and go do your thing, what do you guys doing next? Dude, we've got this beautiful hotel. So we're in Maxos. We just went to Taramino, which is, we're in a Gardinian naxus, which is an ancient Greek city. It was the first Greek, it was the first Greek colony on Sicily. But then it was overrun and taken down by the Carthinian, Carth, by Carthage. Then they moved up to the little town that we're up today, but we're riding on the beach. So I'm actually just going to hang out. I got a book. I got Jack Carr's new book I've been reading on the trip. So I'm going to go sit and read my book and just relax. And it's got this beautiful pool. I left the window. I left the door open last night. You can hear the waves crashing is just awesome. It's so relaxing. Yeah, you can stop with that. Well, and I'll tell you this. Let me tell you this. All of our listeners are absolutely amazing. Oh, wait a minute, Candy Candy, our bus driver telling me to get off the bus. Now, let me tell you this, the best driver ever. He's, I'm going to tell you this, there are hairpin turns that he's taking that Mario Andretti couldn't do. I mean, he is the best driver because there's his little, and we're in a big, gigantic, you know, tour bus. And he's taking these hairpin turns that are incredible. I can't believe he's making these turns. He's been great. Like I said, everything's been so good. All the hotels have been great. So I will put in for you to come with us on the next trip. Okay, fair enough. Everybody's got to do. I'm going to call, I'll call Zach. I'll call Bennett. I'll call everybody you need to come along. Yeah, that'd be great. I'd love that tremendously. Well, Rich, it sounds like a great time. And I know they're listening. They're listening to the WRVA right now. I'll probably wish you all right. Oh, what's this? Condi, say hi to America. Ciao, all, total America. Ah. That's our bus driver, Candy, Gandhi. Oh, very nice. Yeah, so Candelori, our bus driver, so, hey, I'll check in with you tomorrow. Rich, thank you. Enjoy your trip. We're all jealous. That's Rich, thanks, Rich. That's Rich, thanks, Rich. That's Rich Herrera. He is your host here on Richmond's Morning News, live from Sicily. Obviously, he's enjoying his time and having a great time with listeners of News Radio WRWR. Scott Lee, in for Rich, News Radio, WRBA. Scott Lee, in for Rich Herrera. This is Richmond's morning news. Jamming here this morning.

50:30

Got a text from Tim in Mechanicsville, 833, 804, 1140. He said he wants to be an honorary Lee brother. Now, the history of that goes back past 2012. When we first started radio, we came up with, obviously, the Lee brothers, and people would call on and go, how can I be part of the family? And we said, hey, you can be an honorary Lee brother. And you don't have to be a male or female. It's an honorary status. And we had these bumper stickers that said, I'm an honorary Lee brother. and 1140 WRVA. And I actually have seen these stickers across Richmond, which is kind of cool. I actually still have a stack of these stickers. So Tim's asking if you can be an honorary Lee Brother, you can, Tim. You can drop me an email at Patriots at the Leebrothers.com, and I'll send you an honorary Lee Brother bumper sticker. And you're going to bring one. Actually, I will. I will. I will bring you up. Yeah, there you go. Honorary Lee Brother bumper sticker. People don't know what that is. But my car got keyed one time, and I figured they knew what it went. So anyway, I am, I've been looking at this tariff conversation. You know, Trump has reversed some tariffs because the cost of coffee, beef. And he's actually gone back and said, all right, we're going to lift the tariff. because of the cost of tomatoes and other specific spices, those type of things. So he admits that the tariff did have a cost impact on certain things. So he's lifted this. It just happened on Friday. Forever, the conservative movement has been against tariffs. It's been a more free market free trade forever. Ronald Reagan was free trade. The Heritage Foundation was free trade. I've been free trade forever. I think the idea of a trade deficit is a joke. Someone needs to explain it to me. And I don't understand why we care that we have a trade deficit. I have a trade deficit with my grocery store. I buy a whole lot more from them than they buy from me. And I've actually, I've had it. I'm going to go into Publix tomorrow and I'm going to demand they start buying something from. No, I'm not, it doesn't matter. I benefit from that relationship. And for us to have a trade deficit with a poor country, it makes total sense. Vietnam can't buy jack from us. Of course we're going to have a trade deficit with a poor country and a rich company at wants product. That was never a reason to implement the tariffs, although we were told that. Then Heritage came out. And they've actually adjusted their articles that were against tariffs and form. I don't know what's going on. It's an interesting take watching this whole thing flip. Probably get more into this tomorrow if we have time. I am Scott Lee and join filling in for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News. News Radio, WRVA. After 803, outside the capital of this great Commonwealth of Virginia, the home of Jefferson, Patrick Henry, George Mason, and Washington. Virginia citizens and American patriots, but aren't we all? My name is Scott Lee filling in for the great rich. I think he'll, uh, he's having too much fun in Sicily.

53:33

I refuse to take any more phone calls from him. It's just rubbing it in is what he's doing. Hey, you can check me out at the leadbrothers.com, the leadbrothers.com. We've got a couple posts there for you, a couple of great videos, all for your listening and watching pleasure. One actually deals with Thanksgiving, and you can find out more about it there. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I think every time I get into the holidays, I don't want to go anywhere. You're like that, right? I just want to stay home. But it never ends up that way. I got to go here. You got grandkids over here. You got this over here. And we're going to come over here. And then it ends up being a bigger ordeal because it's never easy. Especially we live in Richmond. There's this road. I don't know if you've heard of it. It's I-95. It's like it goes right through the middle of the, and that is the worst. I want to avoid that at all costs. But it's impossible. You want to go north? Guess what you're getting on? 95. You want to go south? Guess what you're getting on, 95. I'd like to say I'd be on Route 1, just enjoy the scenery and make that happen. But you don't. You get on 95 and you realize that it's you and 800 million other people. But actually the stats say there's going to be nearly 82 million Americans predicted travel over the Thanksgiving weekend. Help us get a handle on this and what that actually looks like is Tanya Powers. Fox News correspondent. Hey, Tanya, good morning. Hey, good morning. So you like to travel on the holidays? Is that what you do too? You get in a car and get with all these people on the road? Oh, heaven's no. No, on Thanksgiving, I have a tradition. I always work on Thanksgiving because I get to cover the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. It is one of the coolest. I grew up watching it on TV, and it was such a, like, a big deal every Thanksgiving to watch the parade, and now I get to cover it every year. So for the last, like, 10 or 12 years, that's what I do on Thanksgiving, because it comes down 6th Avenue right in front of the Fox News headquarters here in Midtown Manhattan. All I do is walk out the front door, and they're SpongeBob. So it's like... one of the perks of, you know, where our building happens to be located. Oh, wow. That's just awesome. Yeah, that's my, that's my, that's my, that's my big Thanksgiving tradition. I usually don't travel on Thanksgiving, but if you do, there are going to be a whole lot of folks doing the same thing. Triple A says about 82 million of us are going to travel this Thanksgiving holiday period. And by the way, that runs from Tuesday of next week through Monday, December 1st. Is that up or down? That's up. About 1.6 million more than last Thanksgiving. They expect this to be a new record. Can I ask a question? How do they find, how do they know that? I'm always like, how do they figure out that it's going to be 8, not 81 million, but 82? I mean, how do they know that? I think it's a magic eight ball. I mean, that's just me. But, you know, I honestly don't know. What they, they look, I know they do look at things like they, they team up with Enrics, which is a, they provide transportation data and insights. I know that they usually, they have a lot of their information that they work with them on. Like, they team up with them to give that. Those are the folks who are in charge of saying, okay, here's the best and worst times to drive around holidays. Right.

56:55

They are the ones who say this year, if you're, if you're, the best travel time for you to go is next Tuesday before noon or next Wednesday before 11 in the morning. Returning Sunday the 30th. It sounds like you best time to travel. Yeah, it sounds like the best time to travel would be like on Thanksgiving Day, right? I mean, maybe you're wrong on that. Yeah, no, no. I mean, that is the best minimal traffic impact expected as what they have on Thanksgiving Day. I mean, your best day to travel, but if you're trying to get there before Thanksgiving, if you're going Tuesday or Wednesday, leave before 11 or 12 because that's going to make things a little bit easier for you. I would imagine. I would imagine Wednesday night, like after work on Wednesday is going to be absolute insanity. I mean, that's just the way I look at it, because if people are trying to get there to the place or wherever it is, and then they wake up and it's Thanksgiving Day, right? I mean, that would be the way I look at it. Yeah, the worst time to travel, the absolute worst time is 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. So you're not wrong. Everybody's got the same idea on Wednesday. Let's get an early start when you should have probably left on Monday if you really wanted to get an early start. That's not an early start. That's when everyone starts. No. Yes, that's when everybody starts. Exactly. So what recommendations would you have for people who are traveling? Should they go by car or by plane, in your opinion, Tonya? Well, I mean, there's about 6 million of it that's going to go by plane. That is also up about 2% from last year. That number actually may be a little less when it's all said and done because of people who may have changed their flights after the flight cuts of the last week and a half. People who were planning to fly may have said, no, let's don't do that. So that could be a little bit different, but it doesn't, I don't think it's going to change a ton. The number one piece of advice I give people, especially if you're going by air. Go extremely early to get into TSA lines, especially if you don't normally travel by air a lot. Right. Download the TSA app before you pack. Take a look at it. It'll tell you what you can and can't bring. It'll tell you what you need to check, what you can carry on, all of that. Do it before you get in the line, because once you're in the TSA line, you get up to the front. I guarantee you you're going to have half a million unhappy people behind you. Right behind you. That person is usually in front of me, by the way, and every single time. I'm like, what the heck? Every single time. So, yeah, that's one thing you could probably do to make your life a little easier, not to mention everybody else's. Just leave extra early, allow plenty of time. And have fun. I mean, this is supposed to be fun, right? What great advice. I mean, you're supposed to enjoy this. What great advice. I mean, look, you're going to go see family. You're going to be with family. And try to just recognize that everyone's in the same position. They're all going to try to see their family too. And they all want the same thing. I just don't know what's worse. Being stuck in an airport and complete chaos with canceled flights or being stuck in 95 and you can't move in a car.

59:46

I don't know which one would be. Because someone's going to have to pick one of those. Because on this week coming up, someone's going to be stuck in traffic or someone's going to be stuck at an airport. And that's part of travel. I'm going to pick. I'm going to pick it. It would be worse to be in the car on the interstate. Yeah, because in an airport, I've got access to coffee, and my knitting is always handy because you can take knitting needles on a plane just to let you know. So all I have to do is just sit there. I can read my book. I can chill out. I can get fresh coffee refills in an airport. I can't do that in a car. So, yeah, I'm going to pick that airport. That's fair. That's fair. You know what I think of on Thanksgiving and things like this? is planes, trains, and automobiles. One of the best movies of all time for Thanksgiving. Yes. Yes. I ran into someone other day who had never seen that movie. I've never seen that. I'm like, are you insane? That's like one of the staples of any holiday season. And it kicks off this week and put that movie in before you travel with 82 million other friends. Classic for a reason. Yeah, I agree. Tanya, thank you for the update. Any other last bits of advice you would have for the weary traveler? other than leave like right now and come back in December 12th or something? That's the best idea, yes. Take your snacks, you know, leave plenty of time and have fun. Remember why you're going in the first place. Well, I'll tell you what I will be doing is watching you on Fox News covering the Macy's Day parade. That's going to be spectacular. Enjoy that greatly. And I guess that's where everybody's traveling too. So you're safe since you're already there. That's good. Tanya, thanks. Good talking with you. Sure. Thank you. Thank you. That's Tanya Power. She's a Fox News correspondent, and we'll be having a very good turkey on this Thanksgiving. Good advice from her. All right, coming up, we're going to get into more details about some of the things that are happening here in Richmond and what's going on in the General Assembly. And, of course, your text, 833-804-1140. Scott Lee, in for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News. Thank you. That's just so awesome. Listen, I've been playing Christmas music for a week, you know, and this is definitely Christmas music. You know, just think about the whole thing. Scott Lee and Rich Rera, this is Richmond's Morning News, and we're going to let this song play the rest. It's just, it's perfect. You know, I started playing it more earlier this year than ever. It's been an interesting year, and I play it. constantly. I put my tree up back in like mid-September. I didn't care. I was like, you know what? Well, listen, hey, listen, you know, hold on, wait a minute. If Home Depot could put theirs up in September, I could put mine up too. Why don't you just admit to everyone that you never took it down, Chair? That's true.

You never took it. And there's some, let me tell you something. There's some people who don't, right? Just say, why don't leave it up there? Well, you can just have different ornaments to the seasons. You're going to have your Easter, your Valentine's, your Halloween, like just put different ornaments up throughout the year. So we got to believe it or not on the text line, 833, 804, 1140. Somebody said they never heard of the movie, planes, trains, and automobiles. Now, I was beginning to think about it. Now, it's an old movie. It's probably, is it 30 years old? Oh, it's older. No, no way. It's older than 30. It was in the 80s, man. But that movie is so past any kind of timeline. It could be played. And I think it is obviously played in our household every Thanksgiving because it's the ultimate in that kind of movie. So I guess there's somebody out there who may not have heard of it. They have to be like Gen Z or younger. Right? I mean, because anybody of a certain age would know it. But even that, you would have to say, there's no one in your life to introduce you to this movie? I mean, what there's, I mean, my kids are. been introduced to this movie. It almost seems like that's a societal failure. Something happened. Like we all dropped the ball. Forget men's and women's restrooms and women going to the men's rent and all the rest of them. Forget that. This is a societal crisis. If you haven't seen planes trains in all the bills, it had changed your life, man. It had changed your life. Humanity has dropped the ball. Humanity has dropped it entirely. That must be changed immediately if not sooner. But, you know, there's one scene in that movie. that I can't let it's the F bomb when he gets left in the parking lot of the rental car and he goes I need a F I need a car you know that scene although hilarious when my kids were seven I couldn't let him watch that scene anyway all right coming up I want to get into Jay Jones and are people leaving the police force because of this what's going on with that are they upset of the Attorney General all that is next it is Scott Lee and for Rich Herrera on Richmond's morning news news radio WRVA

How sweet. Just after 835 here, outside the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the home of Jefferson, Madison, and Henry. Merry Christmas. No, no, we're not ashamed. We'll play Christmas music right now. In fact, Jeremy's never took his tree down. He left it up all year because he loves it so much. It just makes you joyful and triumphant, I must admit. Well, they are playing the music now here in the building. Oh, yes, they are. So, I mean, if they could do it, then we can, you know, we can, they did it first. They did it first. Yeah, so yeah, it's okay. We have every opportunity to point to someone else and say they started it. Well, that's what politics is all about. It's what it's all about. Hey, I'm Scott Lee. I'm filling in for Rich Herrera, who's in Sicily, of all places. But I am glad to be here behind the microphone. Thank you so much. We actually reminisced. We started the show off reminiscing a little bit about what happened in 2012. We played a clip from the Lee Brothers here at WRVA. Had a lot of fun with that, and it was a great time. Enjoyed it tremendously. Thank you for the comments. And tune you in and checking me out at the Leebrothers.com. Jay Jones is still a question mark for many. How? How did Jay Jones get away with some of the most outrageous, brutal text messages about killing a political opponent's, even children or shooting them in their head? And the most outrageous things on the back of the Charlie Kirk thing, it just seemed like there is no way Virginia... would vote for someone like that. And the polling was going. It looked like, you know, of course, you can't trust that anyway. But everybody was like, oh, it looks like they've all kind of went over to Mias. And so I was wondering what happened. Then I found out, according to Virginia Mercury, which is the website. I found this article it says, voters decided Jay Jones text paled in comparison to the threats against the economy and democracy. So people voted for Jay Jones because the Republicans are evil. That's how it is. They're evil. Now, Jay Jones said evil things, but that's different. The Republicans are really evil. They're a threat to democracy and the economy. That's why he won. One of the voters, by the name of Clay, 51, voted for Jay Jones because sometimes people do make bad decisions. Okay. Like vote? Sorry. If this was the other way around, and there was a Republican that did this, first of all, no press, nobody's comments would have mattered. The Republican Party would have thrown him in the trash immediately. Done. It would not have been any kind of conversation about, oh, it's all right, don't worry about it for political expediency. He'd have been done. Gone. Now, the press would have absolutely helped 100%. The guy would have been, a guy wouldn't be the living, I mean, he would have had to leave Virginia. if it was a Republican. He couldn't even show his face anymore if this is Republican. It would book in the newscast whenever he... Every newscast, forever, right? Beginning and then. So if Jay Jones, the good thing about Jay Jones is he was a Democrat because he was able to survive. If he was Republican, he would not have survived. And now we're finding out that Virginia law enforcement officials are expressing some deep concerns for Jay Jones. Some people are going to leave the profession.

1:08:21

of the police, according to Sean Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President of Virginia's for Safe Communities, some of they are going to be leaving the state, he added. Some of them are going to be retiring early. Well, what would you expect? Jay Jones described the state policing system as having a well-known history of racism. So he's going to impose implicit basis, a bias training. So if you're in that organization, you didn't get a supporter in the Attorney General. You got the opposite of that. Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said Jay Jones faces a steep Klein in trying to establish trust with the police. He said ending qualified immunity would be devastating to the law enforcement profession. Well, it would be. While limiting cash bail would really be problematic for the safety of our citizens, Chapman added. But, you know, remarks such as two bullets to the head comments also aren't encouraging if you disagree with Jay Jones. So maybe he got away with text messages now. Maybe he feels like I can say pretty much whatever I want. I could say, here's what I think of the Loudoun County Sheriff. You know, text a couple things to people. Don't you wish the Loudoun County Sheriff's children were? I mean, what would he say? Wait, wait. Don't you remember when Trump mentioned that he could shoot somebody on like Fifth Avenue and how like the media ran with that? And it was like, you remember that? I mean, you know, they wouldn't stop. In fact, they still use it. But this is, you know. But this whole thing actually made me think about something else happened this week. There's a woman running for public office in Helena, Montana. She is a Democrat. She's running for the seat on the city commission. And she left a voicemail for the freshman U.S. senator in Montana. This is the clip of what she left. This is the voicemail. Hi, this is Haley McKnight. I'm a constituent in Helena, Montana. And I just wanted to let you know that you are the most insufferable kind of coward and thief. You just stripped away healthcare for 17 million Americans. And I hope you're really proud of that. I hope that one day you get pancreatic cancer and it spreads throughout your body so fast that they can't even treat you for it. I hope that you die in the street like a dog. I... One day. You're going to live to regret this. I hope that your children never forgive you. I hope that you are infertile. I hope you never managed to be born ever again. You are the worst piece of shit I've ever, ever had the misfortune of looking at. And you don't serve Montana, and you serve your own private interests. All that you have done since you've gotten into power is do shit. for yourself. God forbid that you ever meet me on the streets because I will make you regret it. I hope you die. Wow. Hope you die. Get pancreatic cancer. Hope your kids hate you. This woman

1:11:46

We'll be elected. That's her campaign slogan. Why not? It worked in Virginia. She ought to come out full-born. Say, you know what? You're right. It was bad things to say. But it's a Republican. They really should die. They really should get pancreatic cancer. Look what they did. They took health care away. This woman will probably win. Good grief. Exactly. She will probably win in Montana. Why should she be disqualified? Tell me that. Explain why she should be disqualified for running for office for that comment. Why? I mean, there's nothing wrong with that. Jay Jones said things he said. We voted for him. He's the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia. And he said things exactly like this woman. What goes on in the mind of the left? To have such hate about a political decision that you want your opponents to die? They don't know what the fuck they're doing. Thank you, Trump. It's unbelievable. I am, the people that have the sign in the front yard that says hate doesn't live here or were the most tolerant turn out to be the most hate-filled, angry, divisive. Slash, this is evil to me. This is like, who are you? The people with the coexist bumper stickers don't want to coexist. Exactly. That's exactly right. This woman feels morally superior that she thinks it's okay to call this senator from Montana and wish death upon her. It's pretty bad. But I was thinking about this. What stirred it? What stirred this woman who's running for city commission in, she's a Democrat running for a city commission in Montana? What made her so mad? What made her mad is her perception of what the federal government does for health care. So apparently the U.S. senator from Montana voted for the big, beautiful bill that changed how health care is divvied out. So in this whacked woman's mind, The health care hurt people. That's the problem with big government involvement and all this kind of stuff too. This woman will probably be elected, just like Jay Jones was. It's just unbelievable and shocking. That's the most incredible thing I've ever heard, by the way. All right, Scott Lee, in for Rich Herrera on News Radio, WRBA. Also, no Christmas music now? You moved on from that already? Okay, I got it. Hey, it's Scott Lee and for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this program. And Rich is in Sicily. And he called already this morning and rubbed it in our face, which was very, very nice at him. I mean, you all had an opportunity. We had an opportunity as listeners to go, although I got rejected, but the rest of you did and didn't choose to go. So when Rich calls in tomorrow and continues to do that, you know that in the future when we have these listener trips. You should be a part of it because you're a listener to News Radio WRVA. Hey, we opened up the show with the RVA Santa that had passed away. I kind of wanted to bring that back up just here as we're kind of wrapping up the show about how sad that is that.

1:15:08

the legacy of this RVA Santa on his Facebook page, let us know that he passed just the other day. He was the mainstay at the green top Ashland Santa. And as we were mentioning, he was like the original, I mean, you'd look at him and go, that is Santa. And of course, one thing we learned from home alone is he's the conduit to the real Santa. Remember Kevin said he knows how this works. You know, you got the... He's a helper. He's a helper. I mean, granted, he looks exactly like Santa, but he was the helper in the conduit. So for the kids who are listening, RVA Santa has passed. That is true. But real Santa, he does still exist. And the RVA Santa that passed on his Facebook page tells us that his grandson will be taking the duties for the next generation. So he's the new helper. He's the new Santa helper, the new conduit into the Santa Claus here from the Commonwealth of Virginia. You know, I never understood the whole like Santa Claus isn't real. I mean, he gets tracked by NORAD. Like, they do it every year. They do. Yeah, I mean, trust the science. Well, I mean, it's... Santa science. Yeah, Santa Science. Yeah, I got it. Yeah, I mean, I think it's... By the way, to that family... who lost the RVA Santa. What a great commitment for years this guy has made to the kids of Richmond. A lot of happy children. A lot of happy children. Hey, we also talked a lot about the bills that are being pre-filed in the General Assembly. More are coming. I would recommend for you to call your House a Delegance member and your state senator and ask them to introduce bills on your behalf. By the way, most of these bills that are introduced in the General Assembly come from their constituents. who have ideas or things like, hey, I want this, or here's what I need help with, and then they go brainstorm and find out how to implement that. But I also recommend that you call them and tell them to repeal laws instead of make them. If every house a delegate member would simply repeal three or four or five or ten or twenty, it would certainly be a great step towards freedom in the Commonwealth. Instead of making laws, let's repeal them. Can we all agree on that? I mean, that would be like one of the best things. Hey, our national anthem is sponsored by Freedom, Services, and Training. More than just a gun shop, their complete destination for firearms, premier guns and gear. So whether you're new to firearms or seasoned pro, they're certified gun classes off for safety, skill, and competence. And I will tell you, go to the gun classes. They're amazing. Freedom, services, and training, the National Anthem. I'm Scott Lee. Check me out to leebrothers.com filling in for Rich Herrera on Richmond's Morning News News. News Radio, WRBA.
