Glenn Youngkin and Gerrymandering

that had her as possibly the least popular governor in America. And I think this just reflects the fact that Virginians don't like being lied to. And this entire redistricting effort has been deceptive. I mean, the Washington Post said it was brazenly dishonest. And the yes campaign should be rejected by Virginians. People need to get out and vote. I don't care whether you're a Democrat or an independent or Republican. This is against Virginia's interests. And folks need to get out and vote no. Listen, I think that we're still behind. And we've got to get going. And folks, get out and vote no. Make your voice heard before they take your voice away. As a private citizen now that you've moved out of the governor's mansion, you've jumped back into the fray. Why is this important for Glenn Youngkin to let people know what's really going on? Because, sir, to be quite honest, when I talk to people, they're confused. They're not sure whether they're supposed to vote yes or no, because all of this, all the commercials, everything is so misleading and so confusing right now. That's exactly why it's important for all of us to be engaged. During our four years, we were at work every single day, 24-7, trying to drive Virginia forward. I think we took Virginia from a state that was really lost to one that was leading the nation on just about every single front you can imagine, from economic development and job creation to $10 billion in surplus revenue and $9 billion in tax relief to an educational renaissance that's... took Virginia from the back of the line to the front of the line and standing up for our kids, get cell phones out of schools to make a Virginia community safe. We went to work every single day. And we were transparent about what we were doing and we were effective. And now we have a moment where the new governor has not only failed to deliver on her campaign promises, which is why she's so unpopular. But now there's this deceptive effort to disenfranchise Virginians. And it is fundamentally unconstitutional. And I have called and continue to call on the state Supreme Court of Virginia. to do the job and get out and declare this unconstitutional because it is. It's illegal in the way they jammed it through. And finally, it's immoral. And I think all Virginians should be outraged by what has gone on. You know, there's, I read this morning there's over $60 million that's come flying in from sources outside the state in order to fund this, California and New York, because they want California and New York kind of representation in Virginia. And we're not going to have that. I mean, listen, they just announced yesterday.

that Gavin Newsom and Elizabeth Warren are going to do a teleconference or a tele-rally with Governor Abigail Spanberger in order to promote the yes vote. I mean, come on, when you have Gavin Newsom and Elizabeth Warren, who are the far left trying to convince Virginians that they should give their vote and feed control of their representatives to California and Massachusetts. I mean, it is just reflective of the fact this is so wrong. And that's why I've been, I've been screaming from rooftops here for folks to get out and vote. Republicans, independents, and Democrats get out and vote. And I will tell you, one of the things, Rich, that is most telling in these polls is that independence are against this thing by 24 points. Independence. And that is what Abigail Spanberger used. Those are the folks that she used to get into office by telling them she was going to be a moderate and she was going to stand up for Virginians. And she's done the exact opposite here. The exact opposite. And that's why people are mad. Again, I say, I think we're behind. We got a rush here and get to the polls. You got until Tuesday, April 21st. That's just next week to get out and vote. Make your voice heard and vote no. We're talking right now with Governor Glenn Youngkin, and this is a WRVA exclusive, sir. When you say disenfranchisement, I hear this, and here's what I'm thinking, is that if the maps are drawn 10-1, and I have guaranteed to have 10... Democrats and one Republican, then why do we need to bother the vote? Because you've already fixed the election. You rigged it before he went in. That means my vote doesn't count anymore. Whether I'm a Republican living in one of those districts like I do now, or I also disenfranchise, take the vote away from the Democrat that's sitting out there in southwest of Virginia because his vote doesn't count anymore because it's stacked that way. Either way, I don't like stacked elections, sir. That's what it is. And all you have to do is look at this map and recognize. from how disenfranchised Virginians across the Commonwealth are going to be. And take it this way. They're taking Northern Virginia and they're basically infusing it across the state to where in the new, what would be the new congressional district number eight, which will go all the way down into Hampton Roads, you're going to see your new congressperson be from Northern Virginia. Now, I don't care whether you're a Democrat or a Republican. If you live in Hampton Roads, you want a congressional representative. Who's from Hampton Roads? Not from Northern Virginia. If you live in Central Virginia, you're going to end up with a congressional representative from Northern Virginia. And if you live in the Shenandoah Valley on the West Virginia border, you're going to end up with a congressional representative from Northern Virginia. The map is ridiculous. It's just a blatant power grab, but even worse than that. It is the epitome, the epitome of unfair. And this is Virginia. I mean, let's get right down to it. It's the crucible of democracy. The American representative republic was formed in the Commonwealth to give people a voice to elect their representatives. And that's why this is so unfair.

It's so unfair because they're taking this quick moment in time, which, by the way, the process they got here is unconstitutional. And again, the state Supreme Court has got to rule on this, but there's an election next Tuesday. And therefore, we've got to stand up and say we are not going to have our voice eviscerated by this ridiculous, ridiculous map that is being jammed down people's throat and, by the way, done in the most deceptive way possible. They wrote this amendment to say it's for fair maps and it's temporary. Well, let me tell you, first of all, it's not fair for fair maps. It's for the most unfair maps in the country. And don't believe for a second that it's temporary when, in fact, has Democrats or anybody other than George Washington voluntarily given up power? This is going to be a permanent change in the Commonwealth. And this is why it's been so confusing for folks because Virginians don't like this. They don't like being lied to. They don't like gerrymandering. And yet the thing has been done in such a deceptive way that people are confused. So let me just help everybody very clearly. Vote no. Vote no because we want fair maps that exist already and that reflect Virginia's representation in Congress. Six Democrats and five Republicans. I don't love that, but that's just the way it is. But the maps are fair, and folks have to get out and have their voice heard. Glenn Youngkin, joining us here on News Radio, WRVA, sir, if it's really as important as that, and if this country's in peril, you should be able to win 10-1 through fair elections, through competitive elections. You don't need to fix the map in order to push back against the administration you don't agree with. I wanted to ask you one more question before we let you go, and I appreciate your time. this morning here on News Radio, WRVA. You know, I've moved to the state about a year ago. I got a chance to watch you run this Commonwealth, and I was just amazed watching. But one of the things I started talking about when I got here because I saw the early, just little imprints of what happened in California, and I start to see it here in Virginia, and I was telling people, don't see my VA. Since you left office, now I know what was holding back these crazy Californian ideas that ran that state into the ground. Now I see them in Virginia. Your reaction, now that you're standing here as a private citizen to what we've seen come out of the General Assembly, what's going on in Capitol Square. Now I'm screaming even louder. Yeah, Rich, it's been incredibly disheartening. I'm angry about what's come out of Richmond because, one, is bad policy, and therefore it'll be bad for Virginia. I mean, we built an economic development powerhouse. We brought jobs and investment, and there's been anti-business legislation that has been passed, and it's going to hurt Virginia. We stood up strong for public safety. and wanted and made virginia safer listen murders went down by 30% while we were while i was governor and jason meyar as our great attorney general uh was leading as uh virginia's top cop and the first thing they do is turn virginia into a sanctuary state and make it less safe and then finally we stood hard uh for parents and students And all of a sudden, you see that consistent effort to manipulate curriculum. I mean, listen, they're going to make students study climate change as opposed to math and reading. I mean, this is basic common sense stuff. But the creme de la creme has been this about face in order to redistrict Virginia, to gerrymander it, and turn Virginia from a state that is... the most representative in its congressional districts to the absolute worst. And Virginians hate this. And this is why her polling numbers are so bad. I mean, she is the least popular governor in modern history in Virginia. And as I said, there's a most recent poll that emulates those same numbers from the Washington Post that says she may be the least popular governor in America. And this is why Virginians don't want to be lied to. She bait and switch everyone on this promise to bring affordability and she's not going to gerrymander and redistrict Virginia. And she turns around and does it. And that's why I've said over and over again, this is the chance to make your voice heard, that you're not happy with what's going on in Richmond. You will not allow them to gerrymander, Virginia, and steal your vote. Get out and vote note. Get to the polls and just... vote no. Put a sign in your yard. Don't gerrymander, Virginia. No rigged maps. Vote no. Governor Glenn Youngkin, I appreciate you coming on with us. I miss seeing you around Capitol Square, but hopefully we can get you back on the radio.
