Richmond's morning news keeps you running strong 9 a.m. Let's roll off. Hey, good morning, everybody, 903 here on Richmond. It is a hot, humid day here in central Virginia. I'm actually leaving as soon as we're done. I'm driving up to Mountain Vernon there, unveiling a new George Washington exhibit inside of the museum. So we'll have interviews over the next couple days from Mountain Vernon for this event that I'm going to attend after we're done. I never would have thought I would have seen what I just saw on television. This is the most surreal thing I think I've ever seen. on news television, Donald Trump, calling in to our colleague, our friend Brian Kilmeade. To tell the world, that's it. We're done. Iran, either you come to the table and you give up your nukes, or tonight we will relaunch and we will not stop hitting you until we get a deal. We will bomb you into a submission. 49 Tomahawks near Tehran, and I think that was his opportunity to tell Tehran and the leaders in Iran, both the IRGC, the Mullahs and the Politicos that we hit near Tehran. Tehran will be targeted next. He said that the bombing will start tonight, but he did mention we are still in talks with them. Dyer consequences will come to Iran unless they come to the table and give up their euriched in uranium. And he pointed out that, you know, they're just more interested in holding on to that uranium than anything else. He says, we're going to keep hitting them until we get a deal. We'll hit them into submission. He says his preference all along. has been to take Carg Island. He also let the Iranians know we wouldn't take that many people. Wouldn't take that many troops for us to march into your country and take the whole thing over. He goes, I don't want to do that, but it wouldn't take much to do that. So let's keep our conversation rolling on with Governor Jim Gilmore, former ambassador for the United States and our governor as we continue our conversation with him on this Thursday at 905. on news radio, WRVA. Wow, sir, I've never seen anything like that real time. The president calling into our colleague, Brian Kilmeade, to make this announcement, Iran tonight. You either come to your senses, or we will bomb you into submission.

Well, it's the American option. That's what we know at this point. The Iranians won't give away their major leveraging points today. So the question is, can you bomb them to the point where they will have to? As I said earlier, I have friends in the military or connect to the military who are telling me that the U.S. in fact, can do that, that we can eliminate so much of Iran's capabilities that they will have my uncle. and negotiate and surrender some of their leverage. But that has not yet occurred. They won't offer Americans to have this to me as military. Sir, hold a second. Let me interrupt you again. If you could just move just a smit just. There you go. That's perfect right there. There's just you have one little spot right there that we get poor cell service, but that's perfect right there. So let me just make sure we recap everybody that might have missed what you were saying. You do have friends in the military that said, absolutely, we could bomb them into submission. That is the one option the United States has. Donald Trump said that Iran is in the most precarious position. I'm paraphrasing here that they've been, and he talked about getting those ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been the one... card that Iranians played through this whole thing. And now he's taking that off the table. So what does Iran have left? It looks like when I talked a day ago, he was painted at the corner. Now it looks like he's flipped the script in the last 20. Sometimes historic events suck. But what shouldn't suck is learning about history. I do that through storytelling. The war is a distraction. It's expensive. It's tying down our resources. It's tying down our military. And it's not strategically the right place for us to be fighting. So as a result of that, I think that the president is quite anxious to end this. And, you know, he's being advised that he could do it through military attacks. We'll see. As I said before, it has not worked historically in the past, but I have military people telling me that it can work this time. So let's find out. But, you know, the main thing I think to point out is the big picture of what's going on. I continue to believe that Europe is the key battleground, and that's actually going pretty well. uh... you know putton is actually losing i think he at this point knows he's losing and i think it can be a real problem for i want to get to that i want to get to that and i'm going to tie i'm going to make sure that i'd show everybody you talk about this all the time these are

The West and the United States allies and then those that are our adversaries, not our peer adversaries, but those that would like to see the United States get taken down as a world leader, and they're all kind of working together, even though they have divergent issues, whether it's Russia, China, or those in the Middle East, they do have the enemy of my friend is my friend. And I'm going to tie all that together here in just a second, because it's very interesting. I'm sure you saw this yesterday. When the helicopter went down, the U.S. Navy went out and got them through a drone boat. Sir, the whole world has changed because of Ukraine and Russia, and Ukraine, which was a country that was supposed to be defeated. Do you remember Joe Biden said, would you like me to send you a helicopter to come get you, President Volodymyr Zelensky? And he said, no, send me bullets. The Ukrainians, I'm going to say this, sir, and I hope I don't offend anybody. The Ukrainians were not supposed to be able to stand up to the Russian bear. If you talk to military experts and everybody and their brother said Ukraine would fold within days, Russia thought they were going to fold within days. And we've been doing this for years now. And now you're finally starting to see with some of these, some of these. innovations that will change warfare for the rest of your life and my life with the drones that's come from Ukraine. It's changing the complete battlefield with these innovations that Ukraine had to do desperately to hold off the Russian tanks. It's remarkable that Ukraine is in this position. And what we see in Ukraine, like you said, is reverberated around the world, that we're using drone boats to go pick up pilots that have been shot down. Yeah, and I think that's a nice innovation, and it's extremely important, and it saves lives, and it doesn't risk other soldiers and sailors, so it's all fine. Drone warfare is really the key issue that we're learning from Europe, and the Ukrainians are succeeding with that, and they're building their own drones. I saw some place where I think they're going to build like a million drones. And, you know, if you trade one Russian soldier for every drone, that's another million soldiers in Russia are gone, and that's not bad based upon this situation. But look, you know, the nuclearization in North Korea is disturbing. The President of China just made a trip to North Korea, which was a little surprising. We don't know what the result of that was, but it looks like that there's a conversation going on in the Pacific. I think that the South Koreans are in danger, and they may very well end up having to rearm even more strongly than they already have. I've been over there once, and they're very determined to not be conquered by North Korea, but North Korea seems to be picking up in Europe. Again, I think it's to pivot. What gradually, the Ukrainians, I think, are winning. They're diminishing Russia's infrastructure deep into Russia with their drones. Right. They're claiming territory on the ground. Now, the Russians are not completely failing. They're accomplishing some things, too, in Ukraine. But at the end of the day, I think Europe is the pivot. We're all focused right now in the Middle East and rightfully so. That's where the combat's going on. The president just went on the Brian Kilmeade show. As you know, I'm a big fan of Brian Kilmeade.

And he had enough faith in Brian Kilmeade to actually go on his show and announce what he's trying to do. I don't think that the announcement is any different for what we already know that he's publicly. So I'm not sure why going on the Brian Kilmeade Show helps him other than speaking to his base. and explaining to the MAGA supporters that he is still in charge and still running things. Bottom line is I'll let you go back, but the world is a great tumult right now, and I'm very concerned about it, that too many people are arming and do it too much in this global war that we're underway with. Well, I'll give you this example. I'll follow up with what you're saying in the pivot, and we'll get to this, because I look at the way the United States, Hongkow, who's our new. Acting Secretary of the Navy, he understands he was brought in to help rebuild our fleet. And now he knows with these drones that he's been working on, and they've taken this away from Lockheed Martin and all the rest of these big contractors, and they're going with smaller contractors. And you see Hung Cow getting these things out into the battle space immediately. The face of the world is changing right now. And I look at a country like France. England versus a country like Poland. The traditional NATO allies that we have have been very interesting watching them feeling like they have a buffer, but then you have a country like you said, how the world's changing. Poland is trying to stockpile and build up their military like they never have before because they're understanding the threat of the Russian bear, Estonia, those countries and those Baltic countries also know what it's like. to be part of that Warsaw Pact. They don't want to go back. So, sir, I know we're watching Iran and everything, but you have all this situation going on in Europe right now. The one thing I wanted to ask you about is, and this is remarkable, Donald Trump, when he first came in, I felt like he wanted to make Volodymyr Zelensky come to heal because he'd been so used to coming in and getting everything you wanted for the Biden administration. Trump wanted to change that narrative, and he had asked Volodymyr Zelensky, hey, Can you sit down? Would you sit down? He said, under no circumstances. Do I want anything to do with Vladimir Putin? Is the way the media portrayed it. But Volodymyr Zelensky actually made overtures. Vladimir Putin, let's sit down and have a talk. Vladimir Putin now said last week, he refuses to sit down. He has nothing to say to Volodymyr Zelensky. You want to talk about how we flip the script on that one as well. And if Vladimir Putin doesn't feel like he wants to sit down with Volodymyr Zelensky, what's that tell you about the momentum of this conflict? Well, that would indicate that the Russians believe that they're winning and, in fact, are winning. I don't think that the evidence shows that. Look, Vladimir Putin can't talk to Volodymyr Zelensky. His position, his strategic position is that Ukraine doesn't exist, that it's just a province of Russia. So now, if he's failed militarily to achieve that goal, but if he turns down and talks to Volodymyr Zelensky, he's talking to an equal in a separate country, he can't surrender that kind of idea. But at the end of the day, the Ukrainians are not losing and they're not going to lose.

because they've developed their own ability to handle these things. Now, I think the bigger issue is that we're separate from the Europeans. And when I was ambassador in Vienna, working with all these countries, you know, I believe that the U.S. national interest was in having friends and allies in Europe as our most likely ally. If they've depended on us too much, Trump's corrected that situation, I believe. to the extent that the Europeans go their own way. I don't know that that's in the American national interest. No, I don't think it is... But on Poland, Poland is a key country. They are preparing to stand up to the Russians. On the other hand, President Trump said he's withdrawing troops from Poland. I'm not sure that's true. Actually, they said they were restaging and they clarified that they're not losing troop counts. They're just changing, rotating out one division for another. That's great. But the key thing is the message that we're sending, which is if we're still committed with boots on the ground in Eastern Europe, and look, things have been really moving our way a lot. The Armenian election just occurred all the way down in the caucuses, and a pro-American government was established, much to the discomfort of Vladimir Putin. So there's that. And there are other elections moving in the right way, in the right places. So Europe is still moving in my judgment in the right way. But let's, you know, this is very up in the air. This is not like the calmness that we saw before 2021. No, not at all. And then I'll leave you with this, sir, because we're just about out of time. The fact that President Volodymyr Zelensky feels emboldened enough and that he's got momentum on his side that he would actually call out Vladimir Putin, let's sit down and talk to me is rather remarkable. Well, Ukrainians are suffering terribly, but they know they have no choice. If the Russians are able to take over that country, there's going to... bloodbath of a situation there. So they know they have to fight for their very lives. But look, NATO remains a deterrent against Russia still to this day. It remains that way. And as long as the U.S. has at least some modicum of support for NATO, and I think we still do, the Russians are constrained from launching an all-out European war. But my concern right now is that Vladimir Putin seems to be losing options. So that Vladimir Putin is on his back heel. And that is worrisome because he is getting desperate. We don't know enough about Russian politics as to how his supporters or adversaries in Russia are doing with him. But if he feels vulnerable, we don't know what he's inclined to do. He may shake the bag up, for example, by invading Estonia, which is a NATO country. And then at that point, it's game on. So this is still a very troubling time. And we can go back to if the U.S. is so engaged in Iran. Does he see an opening over there thinking that we can't do two things, can't chew gum and walk at the same time?
