For years, Gone South has been a podcast about crime in the American South, but for our new season, we're widening the lens. Through deeply reported narrative-driven stories, we're digging into the myths, scandals, and power structures that still shape the South, and in a lot of ways, the country itself. Follow and listen to Gone South Season 5, an Odyssey podcast, available now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your shows. The following is an editorial by KDCA Radio Senior Vice President Market Manager, Michael Spachapoli. In the wake of Charlie Kirk's killing, there's been no short of inflammatory political and social media commentary. But not from three Pennsylvania leaders we want to commend. Governor Josh Shapiro called for universal condemnation of the assassination, saying political violence has no place in our country. Both of our U.S. senators are on the same page. Dave McCormick said violence is never the answer, no matter your politics. And John Fetterman said, we must collectively find a way forward during these polarizing times. These messages cross party lines at a critical time. Both of the state's political parties released nonpartisan statements as well. The Republican Party said Kirk's murder tears at the fabric of our nation. The new chairman of the state's Democratic Party said, political violence is always wrong. Eugene de Pesquale went on to say Pennsylvanians know all too well the devastation of an act of violence like this. Since the connection between toxic rhetoric and political violence is clear, let's take the high road and bring as many Americans as possible along with us.
