Good morning. It's 814 now. I am Scottanez. Orlando's morning news here on WDBO 107.3 FM and AM 580, Orlando's News and talk a busy Tuesday morning at that. Let's go in depth on our top story this morning because Florida Governor Ron DeSantis now has designated the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. Let's go in depth on this story now with Edward Ahmed Mitchell. He is the deputy director of care or the Council on American Islamic Relations. And Edward, good morning to you. I know that the state of Texas last month made a similar declaration here. And now it's the state of Florida. This executive order takes effect immediately in Florida. So I want to get your reaction. the Ron DeSantis designated care as a foreign terrorist organization. What is your reaction this morning? Well, good morning. Thank you for having me. It's appreciated. So, look, Ron DeSantis knows that my organization care is an American nonprofit civil rights organization. For 31 years, we have been advocating for pre-speech, religious freedom, and justice for all people, including justice for the Palestinian people. And that is why Ron DeSantis and before him, Greg Abbott, are trying to smear our organization. They are Israel-first politicians who want to silence Americans, especially American Muslims who are critical. of these ray of the government. His order is nonsensical, it's fact-free, it's unconstitutional, and that's what we're taking into court, just like we're taking Greg Abbott to court. You cannot, no governor, can simply declare a civil rights organization he disagrees with a terrorist group and try to ban them from state contracts or subject them to witch hunts. It's just not the way it works in America. And so he's going to lose in court, God willing. But in the meantime, he wants to, you know, get some political success from this publicity stuff. Edward, the governor says that Care and the Muslim Brotherhood promote violence and the organization's actions, quote, fly in contrast with the Declaration of Independence. How do you respond to that? Well, first and foremost, care is an independent organization. We are not and have never been part of any foreign organization, not the Muslim Brotherhood, not anyone else. So I speak for care and only care. Care has advocated against violence for 31 years. We condemn terrorism so often that ISIS literally called for our director to be assassinated. The FBI had to help protect us. We have not only spoken out against terrorism by ISIS, but also we've spoken out against Amma suicide bombings, killing his civilians on October 7th. That's been our record for 31 years. The problem Rhonda Bernie Sanders has with us is that we also criticize violence by the Israeli government, including its genocide in Gaza, and the decades of oppression, it's committed against Palestinians with American taxpayer dollars. That is what he has a problem with. But that's his problem, not ours. We're morally consistent. He's not.

We oppose unjust violence against anyone that's been our clear record. It's in writing. And again, he's going to see that in court. That's what we have no fear about taking to court because the facts are on our side. And so is the law. So you say that care is an independent organization, Edward. How is care funded? Is it funded by donations from Americans, from foreign entities? How are you funded? The American people, absolutely. That is how care is funded. We are an American nonprofit. We take funding from the American people. And by the way, unlike Ronda Bernie Sanders, we don't take money from foreign powers or foreign interests like APEC. In any given year, 99% of donations to care people in America. We might get a few stray donations online from people in Canada, but that's it. And so again, when we go to court, if it gets that far, we'll show that in court and again show that Ronda Bernie Sanders. He is a liar, and his proclamation is baseless. The executive order also says that CARE has been convicted of providing material support to terrorist organizations. Edward, I ask you, has CARE provided support to terrorist organizations? CARES never been charged with any crimes whatsoever at all. And that's what's so funny about Mr. San is that it seemed like he might have had CHAPT write this proclamation for. Never, ever, ever has CARE been charged with any criminal offenses. In fact, as he will find out soon, CARES actually work closely with the FBI to thwart numerous terrorist attacks, including an assassination against President Trump during his first term. Now, we never really let publicly because we didn't want to take credit for it. But in light of these attacks, we are going to do that as well. So Rhonda Bernie Sanders is just, he's living in a fact-free world. He thinks he can say whatever he wants, and he can, but once we get into a court of law, facts matter, the law matters. And so we're going to share all the facts and make sure that we beat him in court as we have before. Well, I know there are critics besides Ron DeSantis of yours out there who say that organizations like Hare and the Muslim Brotherhood, for that matter, that the goal is to scheme against America and the American way of life. How do you respond to those allegations? Well, again, speaking for care and only care, I would say this, that care has been the one that's defended the Constitution for 31 years. We have gone all the way to the Supreme Court to defend the Constitution Rights guaranteed to all Americans, and one, just a few years ago we went a 9-0 Supreme Court ruling against government abuses. So it's care that supports religious freedom for all people and free speech for all people and a just foreign policy. It's Ron DeSantis who tried to kick college kids off campuses in Florida if they dare to speak up for Palestinian human rights. Ron DeSantis that wants to ban Floridians from getting contracts with the state if they boycott the Israeli government. Ron DeSantis is the one that doesn't support the First Amendment or the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. It's care that defends the rights guaranteed to the American people. That's on our record for 31 years. And that's what we have to do again now by taking Mr. Ron DeSantis to court. All right. We're up against the clock. Unfortunately, we'll have to leave it at that. Edward, thank you for your time this morning. We appreciate it. Thank you. All right. That is Edward Ahmad Mitchell. He is the Deputy Director of Care, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, designating the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations, as you just heard.
