President Trump says Iran's leaders called him on Saturday to try to negotiate a deal after the deaths of several protesters in that nation. The president saying that we may have to act to protect the protesters before a meeting with Iran actually takes place. It is our top story. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell says the Justice Department has issued a subpoena to the central bank, warning of a possible criminal indictment. On Friday, the Department of Justice served the Federal Reserve with grand jury subpoenas, threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June. In a statement to ABC News, a spokesperson for Attorney General Pam Bondi saying that the Attorney General has instructed her U.S. attorneys to prioritize investigating any abuse of taxpayer dollars. Jerome Powell said that people should see this. for what it is. But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration's threats and ongoing pressure. Jerome Powell said that the potential indictment comes from his June Senate testimony concerning renovations to the Federal Reserve office buildings. He characterized the subpoenas as the latest attempt to influence the Fed and its interest rate decisions. President Trump has repeatedly criticized Jerome Powell for the Fed not cutting interest rates as much or as quickly as the president has wanted since he began his second term. As Winter Garden City leaders have now approved new safety rules for electric bikes and scooters. Under the ordinance, riders must be at least 15 years old and wear a helmet. Speed is capped at 10 miles per hour on sidewalks and off-road paths. E-bikes also need proper lighting, a front light visible from 500 feet and a red rear light with a reflector visible.
from 600 feet between sunset and sunrise. Riders must carry a government-issued photo ID and show it if asked by law enforcement. Officials say the changes come as e-bike use grows, especially among younger riders. Most cyclists support new rules, saying they'll make the roads safer for everyone. Michelle Wargo WDBO News. Governor Ron DeSantis has signed the first death warrant for the state in 2026. After a record setting 19 executions carried out by the state in 2025, that first scheduled execution will be of 64-year-old Ronald Heath, who was sentenced to death back in 1989 for the murder of Michael Sheridan, just south of Gainesville. That execution has been set for February 10th, rather. A Florida teenager now behind bars after authorities say that he tried to kill his own friend by setting a family's home on fire while they slept inside. Deputy say the 14-year-old used a propane tank at a homemade Molotov cocktail to ignite the fire early on January 3rd in Lehigh Acres. Four people inside the home escaped through a window and were not injured. Witnesses say the teen parked his car down the street before setting the fire and even came in contact with the four that escaped, disingenuously asking them what happened before fleeing the scene. Investigators say the teen later confessed and told authorities the intended target was his teenage friend. He now faces multiple charges, including attempted felony murder and arson. He said in a truth social post that it would be effective January 20th to coincide with the one-year anniversary of what he called the historic and very successful Trump administration. The president said he'll no longer let the American people be ripped off by credit card companies charging interest rates of 20 to 30%. Trump did not explain how that cap would be imposed. He did say that the high rates festered unimpeded during the Biden administration. Homeland Security says more of its officers are being sent to Minnesota, where protests continue over a deadly shooting during an ice operation last week. Meanwhile, mostly peaceful demonstrations against President Trump's immigration crackdown continued across the U.S. over the weekend. Here's Morgan Norwood with more. Republican lawmakers who are saying these enforcement operations are necessary and should be happening and calling for more of these enforcement operations to continue. And just this weekend, we saw even more of these operations. Again, ICE and Customs and Border Protection have ramped up their presence. Officers deploying what even appeared to be. pepper spray and we saw them making arrests you know forcibly entering a home and then dragging a man out in handcuffs and you hear you know his family members crying out you can literally see these families being ripped apart
Now the WDVO Sports Update. The NFL playoffs kicked off over the weekend with the NFL wild card round. Starting with Saturday's games, the L.A. Rams went to Carolina and took out the NFC South Champion Panthers, 34 to 31.31.31. In an NFC North matchup, the Green Bay Packers went into Chicago, fell to the Bears 31 to 27. In the afternoon matchup on Sunday, the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles had their repeat run cut short at home with the San Francisco 49ers, taking that win 23 to 19. The Sunday night matchup between the New England Patriots and L.A. Chargers and Foxborough proving to be the only dud on the weekend. New England taking that one 16 to 3. And despite a disappointing ending the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Buffalo Bills ending the Jags season yesterday with a 27 to 24 win at Everbank Stadium. After the game, Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence, saying that the team is going to have a great off season and prepare the right way. for next season. What an incredible football game in Jacksonville yesterday. That stadium was hopping for lead changes in the fourth quarter, which is historical. It hadn't happened before in the NFL playoffs. Congrats to the Jaguars for a terrific season, but the Buffalo Bills. are moving on. Who do they play in the next round? Do we know? Is it Denver or New England? They're heading to Denver. Well, the warm weather we dealt with last week has come to a close across central Florida as a cold air swung through the region during the daytime hours on Sunday. We're going to be left with kind of a partly sunny to mostly cloudy sky for today, and it's going to be cooler, courtesy some pretty strong northerly winds, high temperatures only making it into the upper 60s. Later on tonight, another cool night with overnight lows in the mid-40s, slightly warmer on Tuesday with, again, a lot of cloud cover, temperatures in the low 70s, and then a much stronger storm system begins to arrive Wednesday into Thursday. We think Wednesday is going to be a lot of clouds out there on again, off again scattered showers, and then in the morning hours on Thursday, a strong cold front will swing through the area. So our best chance for in on Thursday will be in the morning hour. In fact, morning lows on Friday down in the 30s and highs on Friday struggle to make it into the upper 50s. I am Scottinez, Orlando's morning news, here on WDBO. Let's go in depth on one of our top stories. I was actually driving on I4 yesterday when I look up and I see these protest signs on the pedestrian bridge in Lake Mary. And they were protesting the death of Renee Nicole Good. There were other protests around the country. I know there was one in Castleberry yesterday as well. Look, anytime anybody loses alive, it's a tragedy. It was preventable, certainly, if you look especially at this new video that was released over the weekend. And it's amazing because if you're on the left side of the political aisle, you see this video one way. If you see, if you are on the right side, you see it another way. And the left sees nothing wrong with what Renee Nicole Good did. They put the blame on ice, even with that new video released. Over the weekend, and the right sees it totally differently. They see a person in Renee Nicole Good, who should not have been there. She's taunting the ICE agents with her partner, agitating the agents in the middle of the street, trying to block them. And when she speeds off, she did in fact hit the agent. who had been hit in drag before by these protesters slash agitators. So the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, went on with CNN and Jake Tapper yesterday morning defending what ICE did in the fatal shooting of Renee Good. You got to listen to some of this here. It's about three minutes here ago. With all due respect, Secretary, the first thing you said was... Quote, what happened was our ICE officers were out in an enforcement action. They got stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis. They were attempting to push out their vehicle and a woman attacked them and those surrounding them and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle. That's not what happened. We all saw what happened. It absolutely is what happened. Those officers had been out in enforcement action. A vehicle had been stuck. They had come to help get that vehicle out. That's when this individual started blocking traffic for minutes and minutes before this individual. You said that the woman attacked them and surrounded them and attempted to run them over and ram them with their vehicle. Blocked the road for a long time and was yelling at them and impeding a federal law enforcement investigation. That's what you need to focus on, Jake, is they were breaking the law by impeding and obstructing a law enforcement operation. They were breaking the law already, and these officers were doing their due diligence to what their training had prepared them to do.
to make sure they were handling it appropriately. You said within hours of her being killed, you said that she was a domestic terrorist. How do you define domestic terrorists? She weaponized her vehicle to conduct an act of violence against a law enforcement officer and the public. How can you assert with certainty? that she was trying to hurt the officer as opposed to she was trying to flee the scene. If you look at what the definition of domestic terrorism is, it completely fits the situation on the ground. This individual, as you saw in the video that we released just 48 hours after this incident, showed that this officer was hit by her vehicle, she weaponized it, and he defended his life and those colleagues around him and the public. The question is, I don't doubt. My position is I wasn't there. I didn't see it. Some people say that it clearly showed that she was trying to hit him and did. Some people say, no, she was clearly trying to move her car and flee and get away. I don't know. What I'm saying is, how do you know? How can you assert for a fact within hours before any investigation? This is what happened. The facts of the situation are that the vehicle was weaponized and it... attacked the law enforcement officer. He defended himself and he defended those individuals around him. That is the definition. When there is something that is weaponized to use against the public and law enforcement, that is an act of domestic terrorism. It happened in our shores. It happened here in our country. You don't get to change the facts just because you don't like them. We will continue to look at this individual and what her motivations were. We know that there was throughout that morning she had harassed and impeded law enforcement operations. that raises the suspicion level with all of these law enforcement officers as far as paying attention to what her capacity is. And as you see on the videos, and they've proven out, that this law enforcement officer took the action that his training prepared him for, and he worked to make sure that he could save his own life and those around him.
