Kudos to the University of Michigan this morning. The Wolverines capture the NCAA men's basketball tournament title. They held off Connecticut last night in Indy, 69 to 63. I had Arizona winning it all in my bracket. I'm the big fat loser. How many of you at Michigan? Let me know. Tap that open mic there in the WDBO app. President Trump says we leave no American behind. The president detailing the rescue of that American airman from Iran. saying the rescuers demonstrated a breathtaking show of skill and the rescue of that Air Force colonel. It is our top story this morning. The president says this is a critical period for Iran, and the clock is ticking. We're giving them until tomorrow, 8 o'clock Eastern Time, and after that, they're going to have no bridges, they're going to have no power plants. Stone ages, yeah. And our continuing coverage of the conflict in Iran on Monday from the White House at a press conference that you heard here live on WDBO. The president telling reporters that Iran will have no infrastructure if it doesn't meet that Tuesday night deadline to strike a deal with the U.S. The president talking about the latest round of negotiations with the country. I can tell you they're negotiating we think in good faith. We're going to find out. The president appearing to pivot from his original demand for Iran to reopen the straight of Hormuz by tonight and focused more on an overall deal by that deadline. The president saying, quote, we have an active, willing participant on the side. But in breaking news this morning, We are now getting reports of explosions on Karg Island, which holds Iran's main crude oil export terminal this morning. The strikes have not been confirmed or claimed by any groups, including the U.S. military at this hour. Hey, Greg, can I break in here real quick? We do have some breaking news. The U.S. is now confirming it. The U.S. confirming we carried out dozens of strikes against military targets on Karg Island late Monday night, early Tuesday morning. That's what a senior... U.S. official is telling Fox News. So we've been awaiting confirmation and we are getting it. Of course, the president first floated attacks on the Iranian stronghold there at Krag Island a couple of weeks ago. But according to Fox News, the U.S. hit dozens of military targets on Krag Island overnight. There have been no reports that the U.S. has deployed any troops to strike the island. But again, the U.S. official, senior official confirming there have been reports of strikes against Karg Island this morning. So again, those strikes on Karg Island now confirmed by the U.S. military, that as those negotiations have a deadline of 8 p.m. tonight.
Coming up, NASA's Artemis astronauts beginning their journey back to Earth as they return as a part of history. We'll have that story for you and more coming up next here on Orlando's morning news. This is eyewitness news meteorologist Cassandra Creamy tracking a much better chance for rain and storms today as well as windy weather. I'll take you through your Tuesday forecast coming up. And a crash on I-4 eastbound at the 429's got a right lane blocked from the WDBO Traffic Center. I'm Ed Torrance. 8.04 now. I'm Scottanez. Orlando's morning. 107.3 FM and AM 580. Good morning. I'm Greg Rhodes. As Governor Ron DeSantis is now signing a controversial bill that he says is aimed at protecting taxpayers. and public safety. During an event Monday at the University of South Florida, Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 1471. It allows the governor and cabinet to designate domestic or foreign terrorist organizations. The bill also restricts school choice scholarship funding for schools linked to designated groups. Critics warn the law could affect free speech on college campuses. Laurel Lee WDPO News. And it is a weather alert day here in central Florida and it will be a windy one. The National Weather Service issuing a wind advisory that will be in effect starting at 11 o'clock. this morning. It'll cover orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, and Volusia counties, as winds are expected to reach up to 25 miles an hour with gusts touching 45. The National Weather Service warning that this could blow around unsecured objects. Falling tree limbs could also cause power outages and driving could be difficult, especially across bridges. This as drought conditions continue in central Florida, where experts say, let me take a fair bit of rain to reverse it. A study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that in order to end the drought here in central Florida, we will need to experience at least 13.66 inches of rain within the next month. This is based on what is called a PhDI, a primary measure of long-term drought that uses water budget methodology and a series of equations to calculate a drought index. A drought is defined by the NOAA as an imbalance between natural water supply and water demand, resulting from an unusual weather pattern. The NOAA. says that in the U.S. drought has historically had the greatest impact on the largest number of people. Hayden Wiggs, WDBO News. The National Weather Service predicting rainfall totals as high as seven inches in parts of the listening area over the next 24 hours, with more rain in the forecast through Thursday. Despite that warning, the executive noting that the U.S. economy continues to be resilient, and he reiterated his hope for the nation to remain committed to backing its allies. As NASA's Artemis astronauts begin their journey back to Earth, they return as a part of history. Less than a week into their space journey around the moon, astronauts read Wiseman, Jeremy Hanson, Christina Cook, and Victor Glover rewrote history. Hansen said, We do so in honoring the extraordinary effort.
It eclipsed the miles travel by Apollo 13, 56 years ago. The crew circled behind the moon out of reach of mission control, truly on their own. Then Christina Cook checked in. Integrity. Integrity, we have you loud and clear. Next stop, splash down off the coast of San Diego in just a matter of days. Grinnell Scott, Fox News. 807. WDBO, thanks for joining us on a rainy Tuesday morning. What do you say we get that extended forecast for you? It is brought to you by Universal Roof and contracting. Hello, Tom Terry. Good morning, Scott. Weather Alert Day for today and likely tomorrow as well. Although I think today is going to be the wetter of the two afternoons, we have rain likely with temperatures only in the upper 60s and locally 2 to 4 inches of rain through tomorrow. So we'll keep an eye out for some minor street flooding and the low-lying areas. Our rain chance high today, tomorrow, and still likely on Thursday, but beautiful weather starting Friday in the weekend. From Severe Weather Center 9, I'm Chief Meteorologist, Tom Till. And currently I am looking at downtown Orlando where it is 67 degrees. I've got 67 light rain at Orlando Severe weather station. We're dealing with a red alert. I-4 eastbound right there at the 429. What's going on, Ed Torrance? Scott, the crash has a right lane blocked. And with that, you got delays all the way back to U.S. 27. After that, you got delays from Osceola Parkway to 535. Central Florida Parkway to Sand Lake Road. John Young to OBT and then from Cayley to Colonial Drive as well as Lee Road to Maitland Boulevard. Need a driver's seat, headliner, or new convertible top. Orlando Auto Polstree has got you covered. Call 407-898-2351 or online Orlando AutoPull Street.com. I'm Ed Torrance with reliable traffic reports every six minutes in the morning on WDBO. Good Tuesday morning. It is 808 now. I'm Skadinez. Orlando's morning news here on WDBO 107.3 FM and AM 580. We think it's really important for WDBO to stay connected with our state and local officials. Always good to have Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackman on with me here on a Tuesday morning. And Sheriff, let's start. I wanted to ask you about this guy accused of attempted murder there in Osceola by shooting into his ex-girlfriend's car. What happened in this case here, Sheriff? They broke up. He had a little rage. So a few months later, he comes back and basically stalking or looking for. Tracks are down. And then because... You don't want anybody else to have her, but he don't want her, but now he's going to take shots at her. So he had multiple rounds he shot at her. Thank God she wasn't hurt. We ended up catching him and hopefully put him away for a long time so he can't do this again. Indeed. This guy Josui Figueroa Jr. faces several charges, attempted murder, aggravated battery, child neglect, all nine yards. There are more charges involved. Do we know, Sheriff, do we know if this guy, Figueroa, had a history with problems with the law or with you guys down there in Osceola County?
He's had some issues before, but nothing like this. But some people got to be careful, watch your surroundings. He had been making avert threats to her, and he actually fulfilled some of his threats to her. All right. Tell me about Ketchikan, the sting operation that you guys came out with last week. You had the news that led to the nabbing of the 16 child predators last week. Tell us about this Ketchikon here, Sheriff. Yeah, we kind of mirror the same time with the Comic-Con, so we did Catch a Con. And sure enough, we had 16 of these monsters come out looking to have sex with kids. So through our investigations and then multiple agency effort here, the Lassilly County Sheriff's Office, we were able to arrest 16 of these monsters. And they're on the Internet, Scott, looking for kids. They're hunting kids. And I said the press conference, you're going to hunt our kids. We're going to flip that on you. The hunters are going to become the hunted. We're going to actually seek these people out. Try to prosecute them, make all the charges we can, hopefully lock them away for a long time as well. I hope so. And look, this is a huge problem, not only here in central Florida, but everywhere around the world, unfortunately, everywhere in the country, it's a problem. We hear about these child predator stings, though, mostly in Polk County. Major problem, Sheriff, they're in Osceola County as well? I think you hit it, Scott. It's a problem everywhere. I wish I could report to you this is the end of the line and we're done. But it's not. They're out there. We'll lock these 16 up and that'll be more trying. So to the parents who are listening, you've got to monitor what your kids are doing on any gaming platform. If they're connected to the internet, there's a monster out there looking for them right now. What makes those gaming platforms especially dangerous as opposed to say just being on the internet, sheriff? Well, the attorney general, Ethmire, he's already filed a lawsuit against Roblox because we consider that a predator's hunting ground. They'll go on there and pose as kids themselves to lure kids into things that are unfathable to the person that has a decent mind. So we've got to stop evil. Evil can't prevail in our society. So our job, and I said when I took over to the governor appointed me, his kids and elderly and we're going to stay in the gas as hard as we can go to protect our kids. And tell me about the shooting of a man by this elderly father, Billy LaRoy. Barr, what's this story about here, Sheriff? And this one makes no sense at all, Scott. This is a little bit of craziness as well. But the father and son got an argument. The son was in his house helping him repair his air conditioner. And then for whatever reason, the father introduced a firearm. and the stories have changed, but in the end, the father fired around and hit the son in the neck, and he had to be transported to the hospital, so the father's obviously been charged with aggravated battery of the firearm amongst other things, but allegedly he's got some issues mentally. If that's the case, he shouldn't have guns. We did a risk protection order on him where we seized all the weapons in the house, so hopefully if he were to get out, he can't do this again. Obviously not. All right, Sheriff. Thank you so much for the update. Always great to talk to you. We'll talk to you in a few weeks, okay? All right, sir. Take care. Thank you. You bet. That is Osceola County Sheriff, Chris Blackman here on WDBO, 107.3 FM and AM 580. Again, our breaking news this morning here on WDBO is that the U.S. has carried out dozens of strikes against targets on Iran's Karg Island this morning. Of course, the president gave Iran until 8 o'clock tonight to open the Strait of Hormuz. So maybe these strikes have...
have started a little bit earlier than expected. But the U.S. carrying out these strikes against Karg Island this morning, Fox News reporting, they are confirming with the U.S. official that we hit dozens of military targets on the island overnight. No reports as of yet as the damage done by those strikes. Iranian state media is saying this morning that Iran now... because of these strikes is vowing to leave the U.S. and its allies, quote, without oil and gas for years. We'll have much more on this story throughout the morning and the day for you here. On WDBO. It's 814 now, WDBO. We do have your weather and your traffic every six minutes in the morning. It's a weather alert day for central Florida. Excessive rainfall possible with the heaviest falling near our coastline. But here in the metro, two to four inches easily as we track a front sliding through the area. This will also crank our winds later this afternoon. A wind advisory in place as we could have wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. From Channel 9, eyewitness news and meteorologist Cassandra Cremie. And currently, I am looking at the WDBO interactive weather. radar and if it's not raining in your area it will be very very soon it's going to be one of those days here in central Florida right now downtown Orlando I've got a little bit of a spritz going on where it's 67 And I've got 67 degrees at Orlando's severe weather station. And we've got a red alert. I4 eastbound right at the 429. What's going on over there at Torrance? Scott, we now have rescue crews on the scene. So you got two right lanes blocked. Delays back to U.S. 27. It's allowed for a lot of extra time ahead and eastbound. After that, you got delays from Osceola Parkway to 535, Central Florida Parkway to Sanlake Road, John Young to OBT, Kaylee to Colonial Drive, and Lee Road to Maitland.
