107 segmentsAre you tired of waiting in traffic, sick of being stuck at red lights? Have you ever thought I could get home so much faster if I could just ignore the speed limit? Well, now you can. Enroll today in the Bud Crawford Driving Academy. It used to take me a half an hour to get to work in the morning, but since I went to the Bud Crawford Driving Academy, all the lights are green. Even the red ones. I'm still late because I should have left home earlier, but not as late as before. Since I graduated from the Bud Crawford Driving Academy. I now know that the downtown speed limit signs are just suggestions. Now I can't not drive 55. Also, I really hope Bud Crawford doesn't punch my face in for this bit. These are just jokes. Terrence. Come on, buddy. We're cool, right? Terrence? Knock out those extra points on your license. Enroll in the Bud Crawford Driving Academy today. Sorry, moonbats. He's back. Chris Baker, afternoons 2 to 6 on News Radio 1110 KFAB, starting Thursday. Good morning on this Tuesday. I am Scott Borges. We've got Lucy Chapman right there and Craig Evans as well. You know Jim Rose is here. But only for a couple more, or another, yeah, another couple days to be here today and tomorrow. And then he's going to vacate the premises for a few days for a long weekend. You will be missed. But we have you here now. Counting the minutes. Yes. On News Radio 1110, KFAB. Thanks very much for hanging out here with Nebraska's morning news. We have the detail that many surmised about what we were talking about 24 hours ago. And that was that bridge that caught on fire in the snow and collapsed in Lincoln, a railroad bridge used by both the UP and the BNSF. And it was apparently also, we think, used by the H-O-M-E-L-E-S-S. The Lincoln police said, yes, there was a known homeless encampment in the area. And as we've been talking about here in Omaha, sometimes when it gets really cold, you go into any spot you can and you set fire to whatever you can, apparently including a railroad bridge. And this was like an historic, beautiful, old railroad bridge, wood, steel. And, you know, it just, it kind of looks like one of those you might find out in the country that's been there for a million years. Well, that's where this one was there in Lincoln, and that's what it was, and now it's gone. And there was a story here from KETV News Watch 7, a guy who lives in the area says he is sad. It's like, hey, since I was a kid, it's been there. It's an old bridge. I hate to see that stuff go. I thought it would outlast me, but I guess I was wrong. So it's Never has so many tears been shed for a railroad bridge. No, I mean, if you grew up in the area and chances are you probably, you know, played on it as a kid, you rode your bike across it. No. You're like, hey, guys, stay off that bridge. And then you get together with your buddies and you're like, we got to go to that bridge. Ain't nobody growing up around that bridge. Okay, that bridge is in a marsh in the Salt Creek floodplain just west of Pinnacle Bank Arena.
And the Bresla Ice Center, not far from the baseball and the softball. Yeah, some place where kids aren't supposed to be, which is growing up. Back in the day. Yeah, exactly. 12 years old, you're on bike right. This is where kids would go, right? No neighborhoods, no houses. There weren't even any trailer parks there. Okay, that was just an area west of downtown Lincoln that for a long time flooded in the spring. I was so sad. Jump off. Jump off. Right. And now it's just this open. an area. Although I have to tell you, you know, the Haymarket is growing in that direction. But there were no kids playing on that bridge growing up. I bet there were back in the 80s and 90s. They just didn't invite you, Jim. No. Look, we were no, my folks were nowhere near that part of town growing up. It was just not a part of town you went to when I was growing up there. The servants wouldn't drive you down there? Well, only on their work days. Did your O'Pair not drive you down to that bridge? Not there. That was not a part of town where you hung out. Yeah, but that's where the cool kids were. No, the cool kids were not there. They were recreating the lost boys on that bridge. It's just a lonesome railroad bridge there on the west side of town. Near the Burlington Northern Yard. I don't know if I've even seen it, but I'm sad it's gone. Also stand by me. Oh, yeah. Well, it wasn't that long a bridge. Train Dodge. Dig it. There's been this much media coverage of a bridge since the bridge over the river Kwai. Getting all the ages movie references in. That was a 60s movie. Whatever. So I was really sad a couple of years ago. We were in a business in Millard with a homeless encampment in a wooded area nearby. And you could still see the trails where kids ride their bikes. But they're told not to ride their bikes back there anymore because there are people living back there. You know, that was a big part of my childhood, riding bikes in some areas where you had trees and you build forts and ramps and all that fun stuff. And, yeah, I imagine there are some people that look at whether it's a wooded area that gets torn down for a building, a business and apartment complex or a bridge that burns down. They're like, oh, man, that's where we used to hang out as kids. I still miss the old mulberry tree. by Bloomfield Elementary. That was a great tree. It was maybe an all-time tree. Messy. Oh, yeah. We'd come home just destroyed. But, man, it was fun. This is Nebraska's morning news. Jim Rose has sports brief in a moment. Craig Evans there as well. Lucy Chapman with traffic whenever she wants. And for, well, that's fine. Really? That's how you're going to treat me today? You know what? I'm out. But I know. Sick day. Vacation. Okay. Lucy Chapman was doing time saver traffic and we're really going to miss that. You're still here. Yep. And I'm Scott Voorhees. My job is yet to be fully determined.
Tonight at 7 o'clock, we've got a one hour pregame for what most people believe is going to be an 18-hour state of the union address. We might not be able to get on the air tomorrow morning. President might still be going. What time does that start? 8 p.m. with the speech 7 o'clock with the pregame and in a first in KFAB history. Because I have to, you know, if we have the speech on, that means that we can't have at 8 o'clock. We can't have the last hour of Glenn Beck, which you can hear at 10 o'clock this morning. It's a long story, not forever. Anyway, and then Jesse Kelly there for like an hour. Normally we reserve two hours for the state of the Union and the Democratic response. Now, some of the last few years, especially Trump, and then President Biden when he'd show up 45 minutes late. which he did. And sometimes we had, I'd still be sitting there at 10 o'clock at night going, all right, let's now go into overtime here in the Jesse Kelly show and have to, at this time, I just said, all right, three hours. We're taking coverage until 11 p.m. And I don't know if we're going to get in the full Democratic response, which then I have to make a judgment call at 1059 tonight. If. if Governor Abigail Spanberger of Virginia is still doing the response because Trump shut her out of the entire East Coast news window, do I then have to, you know, get on the computer and get her on, or do I just go, whoops, and just cut it off? We'll see. That's going to be at 11 o'clock tonight. That'll be an exciting time. All right. I'll put a lunch. That is exactly the strategy. Oh, that's exactly what he's doing. Biden's Biden strategy, too. Yeah, now the 1110 KFAB certified transmission. Sports brief, Jim Rose. Okay, good morning, everybody at Husker Football Spring Training. Dana Holgerson, offensive coordinator made it sound like he's not going to miss Dylan Riola. He went on and on about the new quarterbacks, specifically Danny Kalan and Anthony Calandria and the return of T.J. Lateef hinted it was refreshing. He now has a guy who can run. And he doesn't worry about the second string or leaving. No more spring transfer portal. What's cool about now is going into spring with your team. You know, think about a year ago. You know, I was sitting there cautiously going through spring practice, not wanting to make decisions on specific position groups, because if you make those decisions, the guys that... lost out on the opportunity. What did they do? They left. Well, this is Calandra's job. Hope Kalan and Lateef were aware of that. Trouble for a recruit, Amir Brown, part of next year's class, which right now is top 10, might be wobbling. Four-star running back from Rollsville, North Carolina, originally committed to North Carolina, decommitted, and then committed to Nebraska last October. Now he admits he dreams about Alabama every night.
The word commitment should be stricken from the college sports record. College basketball poll, the Huskers drop out of the media top 10, but stay in the coaches' top 10 at number 10. Duke is the new number one, then Arizona, Michigan, Houston, and Iowa State. Last night, another ringing of the ears at Allen Fieldhouse as number 14, Kansas takes down Houston final score 69 to 56. Carolina beat Louisville last night in ACC play. 77 to 74. Fred Hoyberg was on the hey coach calling show last night, says Jamarcus Lawrence's ankle is okay. He's more concerned about the flu bug. He has what Rink Mask had a couple of weeks ago. Sports is news on Nebraska's News Weather and Traffic Station. Khabi News Time in the morning, 623. How many of those hockey players are going to show up at the State of the Union tonight? Well, none of the women, and it's not because they hate Trump. It's because they all took off and getting them back together into D.C. with about three feet of snow on the eastern seaboard was a little more challenging. But the men's hockey team flew into Miami, and they're en masse making it to D.C. They're trying. for this state of the union address. Now, the big question to me is going to be when he introduces the United States hockey team, how many Democrats will stand and applaud? Because last year when he introduced the cancer kid who wanted to be a police officer, none of the Democrats stood and applauded for him. No, not for cops. And it probably hurt them in the election. In fact, word got out that the Democrat National Strategic Team was infuriated. when those guys were not standing and applauding the police officers and the little kid who overcame cancer and wanted to be a police officer. Such a sweet moment. They gave him a badge and a hat. It was so cute. And none of the Democrats stood for it and that killed him. In a lot of places during the election. Gavin Newsom says, I was like you kid. I was a little black kid that wanted to be a cop and overcame cancer. That's what Gavin Newsom said or something like that. If you want to hear what he actually said, we'll have that for you coming up here. Three and a half feet of snow in Providence, Rhode Island. I think I heard that. That's a lot of snow. Are they hiring shovelers there as well? Yeah, you bring seven forms of ID and then you can pay yourself. Yeah, if Zohran Mamdani was in charge of Providence, if you missed that, there's another fun politician we can talk about. The mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, who said, All right, we want people to come help shovel out of Snowmageddon here in New York. So please come down and we'll pay you to help shovel snow, but you have to bring two forms of ID and a social security card. And people are like, you are fighting against voter ID. You're fighting against the Save Act. You want people to show an ID to shuffle snow, but not to vote. Got it. Makes perfect sense.
as Jim Rose's favorite guy, Jimmy Fela, on Fox News, said, this is Jim Snow 2.0. It's a snocelism in New York. Then, meanwhile, in California. You have to have an ID, though, to get a shovel. You don't have to have an ID to. Lucy, help me out. We just said that. I was distracted. You know, when you walk away. Well, I was distracted. I don't know. Some people email and go, how come you guys don't talk to Jim all the time? We try. That's the reason why. We try. All right, let me telegraph this one. Sorry about that. That's all right. Gavin Newsom, governor of California, somehow in Georgia. Because, you know, I'm not running for president. Right. And so he's talking to this crowd in Georgia, which was supposed to be or. Some people have kind of framed this as, you know, he was talking to a black audience in Georgia. Well, mostly white people who were there, but it was a guy on stage, and he's black, and he's talking to Gavin Newsom, and Governor Gavin Newsom, who comes from a very wealthy family and background, is starting to do the Hillary Clinton, I ain't no ways tired or whatever it is that... whatever voice she puts on when she was talking to black audiences. I'm not, you know, I'm not trying to impress you. I'm just trying to impress upon you. I'm like you. I'm no better than you. You know, I'm a 960 SAT guy. And, you know, and I'm not trying to offend anyone, you know, trying to act all there if you got 940. But literally a 960 SAT guy. I cannot, you've never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech. It may be the wrong business to be. This is Gavin Newsom who's... doing that thing about, hey, you know, I see or I'm trying to connect with black people. And apparently he tries to do that by saying, hey, I'm just like you. I'm not very smart and I can't read is how this is being taken by. Several people, among them rapper and new MAGA darling Nikki Minaj, who says, quote, his way of bonding with black people is to tell them how stupid he is and that he can't read. Yeah, I'm not sure this is going to work with 18 to 34-year-old men who were not, especially black men who have left the Democrat Party in fairly sizable numbers. When you're essentially addressing an audience saying, you know what? You're dumb. I'm dumb. And let's run the country. Senator Tim Scott, the Republican from South Carolina, says black Americans aren't your low bar. So this is, you know, but this is par for the course. This is Joe Biden talking to that one podcast ahead of the election going, hey, if you don't vote for Joe Biden, then you ain't black.
Yeah, because everyone loves an old white guy telling black people what to do. So, yeah, Gavin Newsom's got a little... bumping the road on his tour of, I don't know, has he got a book? He's on a book. He's on a book tour. Look. But not running for president. Got it. He's going to have problems with core constituencies in a Democrat primary. Unless there is a major, major problem or somebody emerges that we haven't heard about yet. Josh Shapiro is going to be the Democrat nominee in 2028. You can book that now. And the reason he is, is because number one, he's a pretty capable guy. He is governor of a swing state. that the Democrats have to have in 2028 and even ideologically driven as they are. In other words, you better be pure or we're not voting for you. Democrats can count and they have to have Pennsylvania in 2028. Can I just get through spring of 2026 first before we start doing that? I know, I know. This is what it's all about. This is what Gavin Newsom is doing. He's on a national tour. because he wants to get to New Hampshire and he wants to get to South Carolina. He wants to get to Iowa. Thank you, Howard Dean. Yeah, he wants to be Nikita Dean. We're going to New Hampshire. And then we're going to Florida. All of those places. Dean didn't just had a scream. He just didn't have a book. But this is a guy who wants to be president and thinks 2028 is his year. The Democrats are saying, we can win California in a coma. We don't need you to win California for us. We have to have Pennsylvania. And plus, I think Josh Shapiro's pretty capable guy. But that's 2028. We have a midterm that we're going to get a good snapshot on from President Trump tonight. Yeah. And remember last year, it wasn't technically the state of the union. last year because the president was just sworn in so it was just an address to a joint session of Congress very state of the union like but that's when that congressman Al Green got tossed out of there remember that he just stood up there and wouldn't sit down wouldn't shut up and i got tossed out of here Got thrown out on my rear. Remember that last year? Anyone want to try and hit this high note? Scott at kfab.com and the Zonkers Customwood's inbox had a number of people email going, Scotty, and you see this? I love when the Gen Xers are rallying to make sure I saw something that pains us or thrills us as fellow Gen Xers. And this one's tough. He was just in Omaha and a few months ago was on the radio with us, and that is actor Robert Caradine, who is known for, among other things.
Revenge of the Nerds. He was the father and Lizzie McGuire. Bruce Crawford just brought him to town last year for a screening of John Wayne's film The Cowboys, part of the Carradine acting family. But for a lot of us, Robert Carradine will always be known as Lewis Skullnick. Where did that laugh come from? That laugh came from the actor, Jamie Cromwell, who played my father in the film. I remember it was the night before we're going to start shooting, and it said in the script that Lewis had a honking laugh. And I hadn't come up with anything, and I didn't know what to do. So I told the director, I said, listen, man, I don't have a laugh, you know. He says, well, here, watch this, and he put in the audition tape from Jamie Cromwell, and he had that laugh. And I was like, oh, my goodness. And we're at this, like, opening night party for the beginning of the film. And I went over to Jamie, and I said, man, your laugh is really damaged. He said, that's not my laugh. That's something I came up with for the part. I said, what? It's a technique? He said, yeah. I said, oh, you got to teach it to me, man. So he showed me how he did it. The next day is seen in the station wagon. We were both laughing in stereo. So that's how it happened. That's how the laugh came about. And he... He started his career working on that film The Cowboys with John Wayne, including as a teenager giving the Duke notes. Yeah, he was the genuine deal. I remember I've been on location for about three or four days, and we were shooting a scene, and I felt that the line that he was saying to me was wrong. It needed to be modified. So I suggested how he should say the line. The entire 125 man-woman crew, you could hear a pin drop, and we were outside in the middle of the raging desert of New Mexico. And then he let me know that that's not acceptable to tell him how to do a line. Really? So that was pretty interesting moment in my life. I never forgot it, and I keep telling people about it, and they can't believe I did it. I mean, 17 years old telling John Wayne how to do a line. Well, were you right? Yes, I was because when you watched the movie, he actually made the adjustment. That's from our conversation with Robert Carradine this past October before he was in Omaha for Bruce Crawford's latest film event. Robert Carradine gone at the age of 71. Hard to believe. I actually emceed the private event, the fundraiser event for them the night before the screening of the movie. And he's a delightful guy, and he was really, really generous with everybody there. He was genuinely happy to be there. When actors reach a certain age, and he admitted this, he was up in front of the whole group. He admitted it. He said, you know, When you get to be a certain age and people still ask you to be yourself, it's a pretty cool deal. And he said, oh, I kind of thought a lot of the country had forgotten about me. A lot of the movie public had forgotten about me. So when Bruce called and asked me to come back, I was happy to do it. And he was super generous, took pictures literally with everybody there and enjoyed it. And he shared many of the same.
remarks with them that he did on the radio, especially that John Wayne story. And if you're wondering, well, how did he die at the age of 71? Two sides to that coin, he had battled depression and bipolar for several years. And according to his brother, took his own life and hoping that the news of that will help others overcome the stigma associated with mental illness. Didn't get that impression from him when he was in Omaha. And I wasn't at the event the following night, the big massive event at the playhouse. But Bruce tells me he was great there too. He was even better. And you think, well, this guy really, really appreciates it. This guy's got kind of a new lease on life. You know, the roles begin to dry up after a while. Yeah. Very few actors can continue on in that profession, you know, until further notice. And in this case, you know, when the phone stops ringing and the script stop coming in, you're thinking, what do I do with my life? And I can see how depression would affect Hollywood. actors in a very profound way. That's why I really like what Bruce Crawford does. He doesn't celebrate someone after they're gone. He brings in people and they're usually on in years to tell them, hey, we love this thing that you did and who you are while they're still with us. That's a really great thing. We'll look forward to the next Omaha film event. here in our community. Enter to win tickets at kfab.com slash contests for Disney on Ice skating into CHI Health Center March 5th through the 8th from Feld Entertainment and KFAB. Yeah, you want to take the kids to that one. This is going to be a really fun Disney on Ice tour as they're recreating the men's Olympic hockey team gold medal. First. Mini Mouse is going to high stick Goofy and knock his teeth out, and then Goopy's going to make that gold medal winning slap shot against Daffy Duck. And you want the kids to see it. There'll be blood everywhere. It'll be super fun. Yes, I'm making all of this up. The question was whether or not the women's Olympic gold medal winning hockey team snubbed the president. Because you know what happened. The men won gold, and he's on the call with the men, and he said, you guys got to come to the state of the union. It's going to be a great party. I'm going to talk for five and a half hours. It's going to be a lot of fun. Best, longest speech you ever heard. And then he says, we should probably invite the women's team, too. If I don't invite the women's team, I'll probably be impeached. And some people took that as, I guess we've got to invite the women. Some people took it as, hey, well, let's have a big celebration. Obviously, so many people love the women's hockey team as well. If I didn't invite them, I'd rightfully be impeached for not inviting them. Whatever. Now, some of this has to do with the media bias saying the women turned down the invitation to attend the state of the union. In reality...
the flights coming back from Italy and what these women have to do in their lives is such that they might not be able to attend the State of the Union. Now that's true for a lot of the men as well because these are NHL hockey players and the season starts again tomorrow and some of them got to get back and then get back with their team and then fly around the country and be ready to go for their next game of Montreal or whatever. And then obviously some of them have to see the orthodontist. and deal with that. But we have a new offer for the U.S. women's hockey team. And he says, if you don't want to go to D.C. for the State of the Union and you want a real celebration, Flavor Flav says, I will host you in Las Vegas. Yeah, boy. Yeah. If they want to go hang out with... P.E. in the house, Flavor, Flav. He says, I'll take them to nice dinners and shows and good times. Just remember, no sex in the champagne room. I'll hang out with Flavor Flav again. Maybe the best concert I've ever been to. Public Enemy. In Lincoln, Nebraska, probably 12, 13 years ago, that concert didn't get over until almost 3 o'clock in the morning. Oh, so it'll be like the Trump State of the Union speech. It ended with Flavor Flav going through the crowd, just hugging and high-fiving everybody. We were all wired. It was an absolute blast. So to the ladies, if you're listening here to KFAB, anywhere you are on our free I-Heart Radio app, except Flavreflab's invitation. And invite me. I'll go. In the Zonkers custom was inbox, Scott at kfab.com. The emails in the wake of the Grow Omaha Minute about 10 minutes or so ago, 15 minutes, are these. Leslie says, did I just hear on that Grow Omaha bit? that the TAC building, the teachers' administrative building there on coming, will be renovated? Didn't they just mess up on their budget? Omaha Public Schools said that they should have gotten more money, and now they're paying for an office renovation? CM, the cap, is a bit more pointed in his comments. He says OPS is renovating some teacher buildings. Where in the hell do they get the money for that? OPS is millions in the hole. It's so deep last week. They're talking about raising taxes in Omaha. Well, see, I have an answer for this. And actually, it's pretty easy. And Lucy, you're making me nervous. Your microphone is on. There we go. It's like, does Lucy want to contribute to this? Maybe when I tell you this. Lucy, if, you know, my wife. You've met her. We have met. We have consumed wine together. Wonderful. Wonderful giver to society. Taking you off the market. And I have asked you to stay away from her. But Lucy and my wife have spent a little time together. That's bad. I mean, sipping wine. Sharing, sharing stories about you. Just because we had our own jugs of wine, of wine. Of wine. Thank you. Jim and I were boxing each other out to get to that comment.
How do you think it would go, guys, if I went to my wife and she said, honey, I've taken a look at our budget, and we can't afford to make the mortgage payment this month. And I said, yeah, that's too bad. Well. I'm off on my golf trip. Wait a second. You're on a golf trip. Yeah, I'm going to Pebble Beach. I think it's up to $700 to play golf at Pebble Beach. I just saw it on TV here recently, and I thought that place looks cool. I want to go. So I'm going to go. She's like, but we don't have the money for that. I was like, no, no, no, please. Little lady, this is my golf budget. But we can't make the mortgage payment. Well, we'll have to reevaluate the mortgage budget, but my golf budget is solvent. We're in good shape there because that's what Omaha Public Schools is saying. They said the $2.5 million that they're using to renovate that tack building, which shouldn't exist. Why do you need a giant building of administrators? who are hiding downtown. Meanwhile, teachers feel unsupported. Students are filling the blank. I mean, some are thriving. Some are not. What are the administrators doing? Who's holding them accountable? What do they do in there? Well, they're saying that this specific appropriation comes from a separate fund that was set aside from the general operating fund. for such projects. I'm saying the same thing my wife would say. I'm thinking that's hoo-ha. It's all the same. You're getting tax money to do this. At last report, nobody's paying tuition to go to an OPS school. Yeah, this didn't come as a result of the Cheryl Logan bikini car wash. This all taxpayer funded. I didn't need that of this hour of the month. Two and a half million dollars. Now, if this comes from a local foundation. If a local philanthropist thinks that we need to renovate the tack building to make it far more efficient or energy efficient or the administrators need it, that's different. But you're right, Scott. This is one of those things that falls into the category of deferred maintenance until the finances are squared up. Now they're going to raise the levy. which means that you're going to pay more in property tax this year. And they'll say, well, we haven't done that in a while. Well, let's take a look at your budget and just see how you've been managing finances over the last 10 or 15 years. But they're explaining it away that way. That's different. We put this money aside a long time ago out of the... No, to the average Omaha. The guy who lives at 69th in Dorcas... who has to go to work every day and pay confiscatorily high property taxes for his little house on Dorka Street is going, no, that's not how the real world works, and apparently you don't live in it. Mismanaging the budget, able to raise your taxes, and no one is holding them to any kind of standards happening every day in Omaha Public Schools. I don't know that we're going to be able to start on time tomorrow morning.
Here on Nebraska's morning news, the president might keep going. He might Cory Booker his way through the state of the union tonight. I'm wearing a diaper. We're going all night here. It's going to be great. You're going to love it. Yeah, that's what he's going to say. All right, I'm wearing a diaper. Four o'clock in the morning, Chuck Grassley is still getting up and clapping every time the president says anything. I had Chuck Grassley on yesterday. I said, Senator, if you don't mind me asking a rather personal question, what time do you usually go to bed? He said, nine o'clock. I said, well, tomorrow night. on the East Coast. That's when the State of the Union starts. Okay, nine o'clock. I guess I'll have to take a nap. And then we'll maybe come in a little bit late on Wednesday. Might need an intermission so that I can use the men's room if it's going to be that long. Is it really 9 o'clock East Coast time? Yeah. Oh, my God. Yeah, 8 o'clock, Omaha. See, that is by design because that means. that the Democrat response will not happen until 11 o'clock Eastern time at the earliest. Probably. Okay. And by that time, the entire Eastern standard time, Eastern Times and will be asleep. They're not going to sit up and they're not going to probably watch the whole state of the Union. And the left coast doesn't need it. They're already in the bag for the Democrats. So he's thinking, this is what we're going to do. He is one of the most politically adept presidents we've ever had. You think of the great politicians. No, think about it. Everything he does really truly has an end game, like the tariff response. Now, the easy thing after the Supreme Court decision would have been. This. They're dumb. I shouldn't have appointed them. This is going to wreck the economy. All of that. Instead, he says, no, we're going to take in more money because I've got this, this, this, and this. He was planning for it. And he knew that if he goes off... and says this will wreck the economy, the stock market tanks. But they're still going to allegedly be at the address tonight. The Supreme Court shows up. So is Trump going to be there going, Amy Coney Barrett, I put you there, I can take you off of there. You're a disappointment. I'll send you back to Colorado. Democrats might just all get up and walk out and Chuck Grassley says, okay, goodbye. It has been four years since Russia invaded Ukraine. There is no possible way that they thought. Four years ago, this is the Biden administration that they...
This is what they did under President Obama and then Vice President Biden at the time saying as Ukraine was looking into a pro-Russia prosecutor who was trying to investigate why Russia was getting a fast one on energy companies in Ukraine. Biden showed up and said, we're going to withhold money from you guys. We're going to withhold aid to Ukraine until you fire the pro-Ukrainian prosecutor. looking into Russia. So Russia gets Biden in office. They're like, this is great. We'll just go back into Ukraine. We missed a few things last time we were in there. And we'll go in there now and take them. That was four years ago today. And they're still fighting. When I think about what is now Europe's biggest conflict since World War II, I can't help but number, or I can't help but wonder as I look at the numbers. 1.8 million, that's the upper end of the estimated number of soldiers killed, wounded, or missing. That's a combined. It's estimated that Russia has had over a million casualties. And I look at these numbers, and I can't help but wonder, why is this America's job, Jim Rose? Why, as Russia invades Ukraine? Why did everyone suddenly look at America and they're still looking at America to say, hey, why don't you guys do something about this? Why is it always America? Well, it's an age old. It's an age-old fear that if you don't stop communism where it is in its tracks, it'll just grow and metastasize. This was the grand strategy for Vietnam. This has been the grand strategy for decades in this country, and that is, South Korea, if we don't stop it, then it'll overrun the place. And if that happens, it'll embolden our enemies to look at the United States and say they're weak, they don't care. We let the Russians invade Afghanistan. And what did we do? We boycotted the Olympics. And that was one of the reasons that Ronald Reagan won 40 states. But bottom line, the country continues to have a grand fear of communism. And why would the Americans get involved? Because over there, they don't have the capacity to stop it on their own. I would disagree. And when President Trump was elected the first time, one of his chief priorities was to get NATO to start paying its share of the bill. which at the time was 2.5% of gross domestic product for each country. That's what you contribute into the NATO Defense Fund so that you can defend yourself. And the belief is if Ukraine falls, then Russia will start taking back all of the other former Soviet Union provinces that after the fall of the Soviet Union became their own countries. Is that true? Well... We can't predict the future. Maybe you've got a guy in there right now who's as hard line, Vladimir Putin, as any Russian dictator since Joseph Stalin. So anything's possible. And as you look at the reality of the past here, under the first three years that they were in Ukraine, Russia under President Biden,
occupied 19.4% of Ukrainian land. That is, that's the current percentage of Ukrainian land occupied by Russia. Nearly all of that in those first three years. Now, President Trump, who's been maligned is you don't care about Ukraine. You are buddy, buddy with your fellow dictator, Vladimir Putin. You're just trying to pacify him. And you're embarrassing America on the world stage. And you should stand up for Ukraine. Okay, well. During the past year that Trump has been in office, Russia has gained an additional 0.79% of Ukraine's territory. That's it. That's it under Trump. But under Biden, they got about 40%. 19% occupied land under President Biden over three years, in one year of Trump, less than 0.8%. And people, of course, well, I thought you were going to end this thing before you even got sworn into office. He did promise to do that. I know. That was a campaign promise that he knew he wasn't going to be able to keep, but he also wasn't running for re-election. Yeah. He can promise anything he wants in his last run. But people, I mean, anytime Trump does anything, it's always, well, how come you're not doing this? How can we not doing that? Well, we've also got this now Board of Peace looking at the Middle East, looking at Ukraine, and still trying to get that done. And we're President Trump is looking at Iran as well. And, of course, saying Trumpy things like, if they don't make a deal, we're going to bomb them into Stone Ages, you know, whatever. Which is exactly what he's supposed to say. You don't go to Iran and say, if you don't make a deal why I'm going to be so ticked, I'll be... livid, you know, what you've got to say, the stuff that Iran understands. And I think there was someone on this radio station who once said money, brute force, and hot chicks rule the world. That's Chris Baker. He's back here on the radio Thursday at 2 o'clock. We, years ago, and this was due to state Senator Ernie Chambers. So I understand how we got here. I just don't understand why we're still here. where if you've got a dangerous criminal evading police in a high-speed car chase, Omaha police shut down the chase if it gets to be too high speed and too dangerous. Now, the reason they do that is they say, well, if he gets in a crash and injures someone that the Omaha Police Department would be liable. Why? You're the one running from the cops. And so Omaha police are like, hey, this guy is a really, really dangerous guy, and he really doesn't want to be caught by the cops. Who knows what's going on in that car? He could have people and drugs and anything could be going on in there. Well, we'll just try and pick him up later because if he gets in an accident, that could be on us and somehow not him.
Why isn't it on him? Because we think he probably doesn't have any money of his own nor insurance, but people will sue the city of Omaha because we've got more money and they'll lose. They'll get all the money here and we'll lose it. So why do we still have this inane thing? Very few cities across the country. Last check. And maybe that's changed in the last few years of some of the anti-cop legislation, defund the police stuff. Why in the city of Omaha do we still reward criminals? If you run from the cops and you do it fast and dangerous enough, they will give up the chase. This is what happened in the middle of the night, where they were following a reckless driver in the area of 30th and Q. They tried to pull him over, but he didn't want to be pulled over, so they're like, okay. Now on this one, later he crashed off the highway. And it's not clear whether they got him. It says no report of injuries. They are investigating the crash. This happened overnight Highway 75 near the F Street exit. I imagine they got the guy. The story from KETV Newswatch 7 doesn't specifically say that part, but it sounds like they did. I am done rewarding criminals by encouraging them to flee from the cops.
