That's after yesterday evening's ground stop when a JetBlue plane had to turn around just minutes after taking off. About 20 minutes into this flight down to West Palm, JetBlue Flight 543, then in emergency mode. Exit the runway and just have the fire rescue, make sure the engine's number one engine's okay. Okay, 543, or Roger exits on top, it's three. Now, among the passengers on board, we couldn't believe what they were seeing and hearing, Alexandra Spakov, describing that sound when the engine failed. It was not a normal, it was not, you know, any sort of ding on a plane. It wasn't any sort of turbulence. It sounded like something hit the plane. The plane did land safely. 122 passengers had to be evacuated via slides. The airport was closed down for about an hour. Operations are mostly normal this morning. I'm told there are scattered delays in just a handful of cancellations. Glenn Shuck, 10-10 wins, 92-3 FM, and Newark Liberty. Zohran Mamdani changes his mind about homeless encampments. He initially said they would not be disbanded, but now they will be cleared, albeit using a different strategy than before. Unlike in the past administration, where much of the interaction with a homeless New Yorker was defined by the first day when you'd provide a notice, and the seventh day when you'd initiate a sweep in our administration. Every single day of that time period will be characterized by outreach. He says the NYPD will still be involved but will accompany those outreach workers. The mayor faced a backlash after nearly 20 people died during the recent cold stretch. He noted, however, that there is no indication any of them were living in homeless encampments at the time. Two local gang members are charged with witness tampering and retaliation to try and keep their gang leader out of jail. Their MO? Prosecutors say they threatened to kill a child. A rat and a snitch is how federal prosecutors say Tyshaun Palmer and Hassan Brown described the witness in Instagram posts and says U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. The defendants even threatened to attack the witness's child at his school, a kindergarten. And they used pictures of the witness, his pregnant wife, and young child. This was all done. to retaliate against the witness and to prevent the witness from providing further testimony or information to law enforcement. The witness testified anyway and the murder trial ended in a guilty verdict. Now Palmer and Brown could face life in prison if convicted. Mack Rosenberg 1010 wins on 92.3 FM.

Three teens among four arrested in the shooting we told you about yesterday in Ridgewood, Queens. That's where a 23-year-old bystander was shot in the leg on Wycoff Avenue near Summerfield Street. It's still not clear who the intended target was, but police say four people had jumped out of an SUVs and one of them started firing. They then jumped back in and drove off. Cops were able to track down that car. They made the arrest. Three of the suspects are 17-year-olds. They and 23-year-old Thomas Tyler. We're all charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and weapons possession. A member of the city council from Staten Island intervenes after... A borough resident had his car seized by the MTA. They're enrolled in an auto pay toll plan through Easy Pass. But the moment they crossed the Verrazano Bridge, their balance went into negative. They were pulled over and their car taken by the MTA. Fran Raganesey says her husband, Frank, was stranded on the Verrazano Bridge. They take your car off the bridge. They tow the car stranded on the bridge, left him nowhere. The Raganesey's picked up the phone and called council member Frank Morano. If someone is actively working to respond. resolve their account and following the rules, the system shouldn't punish them anyway. Enforcement should target scuff laws, not people trying to do the right thing. Councilmember Morano says within hours, the MTA returned the car to the Raconesees without any penalties. Mary Lynn Buckley, Tenten wins on 92, 3 FM on Staten Island. In a statement, the MTA said the drivers who don't pay thousands of dollars in tolls should expect to get stopped and to have their cars taken. They say in this case, the car was not impounded and that as soon as the misunderstanding was recognized, it was returned to the owner who, is still obligated, however, to pay his outstanding balance. Nepotism at the L.I.R., the MTA Inspector General's out with a report that found the assistant chief program officer at the railroad inappropriately used his position to land his son a job with railroad contractors. In fact, IG Daniel Court says that official actually reached out to six different vendors doing business with the railroad to shop his son's resume around. I think it's important that... public employees and the public know that when that does happen, when public officials do abuse their positions, they will be held accountable. He did say that the railroad has accepted both of his report's recommendations, which were to remind vendors of their duty to report any improper requests and to submit proof that it distributed the MTA Code of Ethics to its employees. The decision comes following the president's executive order last year, banning gender affirming health care and threatening to withdraw federal funding to hospitals that provided for minors.
