He's up more than 85%. We're getting to it later. It's good to be the president. It really is good to be the president. Hey, everybody, Chad Hartman, Dave Harrigan, Newsstalk, A3OWCC. A lot of people may be taking it off. Not us. Not us. We're here today. We're here tomorrow. We're here. Okay, the show's here Friday. Your voice will be here. My voice will be here. That's pretty good. I got a season long doubles match to play. From what I've heard, it's not going to be much of a long season for that. Well, it's the net version that we're now in. So there's strokes that have jumped up dramatically. And now I just found out who's going to help me out with Quentin might be ill. Could I bring Quinny down here? Could you just watch them during the best of while I toil at Horse Breath? No, but I think you could bring him to Horsebreath. Put him on the bag. Come on, Quinny. I really don't need to hear. Dad, why are you so upset all the time? Is it my fault, Dad? Are you mad at me? Dad, why are you shaking? Why are you shaking their hands after 12 holes? What's going on? I've never heard you use that word before, Dad. We are here, and elated to be back a night to remember, and really, as I put on the Twitter machine, two nights. to remember, and I'm going to try not to get emotional here, but I can tell I'm fighting it off already. I will start with my father. And if you want to see a picture that captures the award, my father won, and then I am standing there with the person in my life who I trust the most of my entire life, and that is my oldest son, Hunter Hartman. Hunter Sidney Hartman. And my father, as we mentioned last week and when it came out a few months ago, was inducted into the National Sports Media Association's Hall of Fame. On the writer side, by the way. Pretty good. Is that many still eligible for on the broadcasting side? Should be. Because I think there might be a few people who listen to here. I would say, no, wait a second. I think I know them as well here as I do the Star Tribunes, right? A tremendous honor, because if you go to the Association's Hall of Fame, as I put out on the Twitter, and again, the picture of us. with the plaque, which... Great photo. Thankfully, they're sending back. Yeah, I look like a goofball, but my son looks fantastic, and the plaque is great. The plaque's heavy, and we had no room for it, because I brought a garment bag and a small other bag, and first I'm going, might take it this back? Because I would have some... No, we'll mail to you. Thank you. Thank you. At Shad Hartman Show. But if...

3:18

If you look at those names on the writing and broadcasting side in the Hall of Fame, it is historic who, Sue. Who went in with him over the weekend, remind us. Adrian Wosnerowski. Big. James Brown. Bigger. Greg Gumbull. Probably even bigger. Right. And, I mean, there are illustrious names on the writing and broadcast side. year after year after year. You also had state winners who were there. For our state, I had a chance to talk to both. Phil Miller, who has now walked away from the business. That's what happens when you cover the twins. Now, Phil, high-quality human being, you know, he covered the twins. I first met Phil when he's covering the jazz out in Salt Lake City and then Mike Grimm. And it's the first time Mike Ralee and I had a chance for an extended conversation. What a really, really good person. Yeah. Mike Grimm is in both outstanding at what they do. And then to see all the folks honored and then to be brought up on stage with West Durham, who is a great broadcaster himself. You know, Wes went on the same line of work as his father. I just. Don't understand that. It doesn't make any sense to me. Make any sense to you? Does not. Yeah. Oh, that's right. And Wes has kind of been the chairman of this group along with Dave Goran. And I went up there first. And they did a Q&A because of their years, Sean McDonough. broadcasters here. I had a chance to talk to Sean for a little bit. People have heard me forever say. I think Sean McDonough is one of the greatest broadcasters in this country and is the most underrated great broadcast in this country. Phenomenal. He does everything. And by the way, the screech happens occasionally. Sean made complete fun of it and owned it and gave a great lesson to broadcasters too. Like, sell the moment. And if excitement sells the moment and if your voice isn't just ideally modulated fallacy, but that captures the moment, who bleepin cares? And Sean was very funny. You know, Sean, which I didn't realize, is great friends with John Harbaugh. Because Hunter and I are like, what's John Harbaugh doing here? And it turned out they had played in a golf tournament years and years and years ago before John Harbaugh was John Harbaugh. Yeah, right? and became great buddies. It's told one story where Harbaugh let Sean be on the sidelines. But then he said, we might have too many people on the sidelines. So you got to wear a Raven's jacket. And I'm going to give you a stopwatch. And I want you to time the punts. You know, time the hang time. And Harbaugh gets it. Not sure his brother gets it all the time. Because McDonough tells the story that like two thirds the way through the game, Harbaugh comes down during a brief break. And looks at him and goes, you're taking this way too serious. I'm not using it because really Sean's got a pen, paper, and he's chatting all this down like he thinks Harbaugh's going to come during the fourth quarter and say, Sean, what should we do here? Might be on the payroll at that point. Right.

6:54

Half million dollar a year job in the NFL. Exactly. We'd all take it. So Sean had pointed out and others pointed out to me because I saw a number of people I knew that when they used to let everybody give a speech, no exaggeration, it would end at 1.30 in the morning. You broadcasters would go a little long? Yeah. People in the media talking about themselves. Yeah. I hate to shock you with this one. We kind of like to do that. Yeah. And so I gave Dave Goran four bullet points, and Wes was great. I said from 9 to 100. And by point of that was my father started delivering newspapers when he was nine. My father's father, my grandfather, Initially, it was Jack Heckman. So I could be Chad Heckman right now. My father, my grandfather did not speak English, could not read English, was handy, was doing things around the city, but alcohol was his demon. And he struggled with it mightily. My grandmother ran an apparel shop. And my parents, my grandparents lived a few places in Minneapolis. Finally, I know it so well because my father told me every time. 525, Humbold Avenue in Minneapolis. My father, with his sister Bernice, his brothers, Harold and Saul, sadly all are gone. They shared one room.

8:51

Each two in the twin bed. My Aunt Bernice, who is one of the greatest human beings I ever met my life, shared a bed with the boys. And the family needed money. My grandmother, Celia. We almost named a child, Celia. And sadly, I hardly have any memory. Of my grandmother, so it would have been a part of tribute, and part I just love the name. I think Celia is such a beautiful name. Would buy two chickens for a buck. That is why my father learned to hate chicken. Because every day as a kid, not exaggerating. He was Dave Harrigan before Dave Harrigan came along. It's going to be my kids. They're going to grow up to hate chicken too. Exactly. I mean, you had the rotisserie chicken. I mean, they had chicken noodles soup, chicken wings, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, everything. Four, the six of them. And sadly, sometimes the five of them because my grandfather was ended out of jail. My father was already in the newsroom. Think about this when he was 11 or 12.

10:10

And he left high school, junior, would later get an honorary degree in North High. But we know the rest of the story. And, you know, it just became this tour to fours. And on October 16th, a Friday, our great friend. And... If I was going to tell you the closest personal friends of my father the last three, four years, Jeff Day is in that small, small, small room. It's, if we're not going to family, it's Jeff Day, it's Bob Hagan, it's Lacey and Larissa of the nurses. And obviously, you know, Bud was his best friend and others like Louis, sent me a great note today, Louis. Right in that group. But the people he rose up, Jeff Day and my father, because Jeff was helping my father. Yeah, help with the column, right? Right. My father would go to places. He would write a Jeff would try to, if my father had 100 needed to clean up, you know? And they put that column to bed October 16th. October 17th is Patrick's birthday. And I called Lacey so many times because my father... By then, really wasn't doing anything. And I wanted him to emerge and have her send me a good-natured happy birthday greeting to Patrick. And he just wasn't up to it. And sadly, my father would pass away on October 18th, 2020, with his column in the paper that day. He's delivering papers at 9. There is a column in the paper the day he passed away. I'll tell you a few other points about the event because it meant the world to me. And I just know how much he would have loved it. And he probably would still be there because he would be talking to so many people. just reveling in it and it's not easy for my father be humbled. But he would have been humbled by it because I can assure you his son and his grandson certainly were. A few more points about it. Another just great night for our family. Sorry. Indulge me on this one. It was a couple nights to remember. 19 past 12. Chad and Dave with you here on Cic. So a little bit more on Monday night. Then I went to the Lakers. Because my father without question says that's the greatest professional part of his life. He doesn't hesitate at all where his two great friends, Ben Berger and Morris Jolf and then Morris wanted to be behind the scenes. When my father and Benberger traveled Detroit and bought the Detroit gems for thousands. And they come back here and it's one year in the MBL and then becomes the NBA and he wins all these titles. And I would kid him a lot and say, yeah.

13:17

When you have Mike can fall on your lap, sure, anybody can win those titles. But even Adrian Wojdorowski when West Durham was kidding him, you know, and Adrian now has left the media business. He's with, what, St. Bonne Fender, I think it is, as their jammies league, he goes, yeah, if I could just get Mike in to fall on the transfer portal for me would be helpful. But. You know, to sign, you know, to make the moves from Pollard and all those guys and signed Bud. And he loved that. And what a lot of people forget, he, I'm not going to tell the Russell story. He told so many times, but he was involved in the initial Chicago team. And they couldn't make a deal with the Kevin Warsh is, you know, the family that still owns the Blackhawks and owned the old Chicago Stadium. So then they moved to the Baltimore. Right. And they would eventually move it back. And those are the Chicago Bulls. But my parents got married in Baltimore. And my mother had suffered some injury. And she wore a patch over one of her eyes. My father's joke sometimes was, considering how I looked and considering your mother, like my mother was absolutely stunning back in the day. She might have had a patch on both of her eyes. You know, and he would kid me, be like, well, if I went back to Chicago, you'd be running the Bulls right now. I go, well, I don't know. I mean, would you guys have had me at that point? I sort of need to be there. Then I talked about the scoops, right? You know, how much he loved breaking stories and how he was relentless, tenacious, the most competitive person I've met in my entire life. and maybe the least athletic person I've ever met my life. So it had nothing to do with participating in the sports. Bud took that line for me, and Bud occasionally would admit to me that he took that from me. More often than not, he would say it was his own, and I would just have to get the wink from Bud. But as you say, with the Walker in his hand, very often. Oh, my God, halacious Walker. You know, a lot of people were saying when the meaty business, you guys are going, you know, when you really think about, We're in the broader media business. We don't do anything the same, you know, play-by-play, talk show daily. I never had an interest writing column. A weekly show didn't do anything for me. I'm way more Patrick than I have my father. And I miss my father, and I really, really miss him the last 24 hours. But if I picked up anything physically from my father... I'm a walker, man. I talk about housewalk, and I'm a fast walker. I've been reminded by all the women in my life. Slow the bleep down. What do you do it? And then just the close personal friends, you know, and had to do that. And then Wes asked me about his legacy. And I said, you know what the most important legacy is? And I said, I can't see him because the lights are, you know, right in our eyes. But Hunter Hartman's out there. And the truth is, you know, my father. You know, until I was 12, I was with my father. I was still under this. Three Wednesdays a month, every other weekend, and then one Sunday. I was with my mom until I was 12. What is that? Like 85, 90% of the time. And then with game, when I had him, he would just take me to games. The thought of my father.

16:53

where I moved away from afternoon drive and gave up the wolves and didn't pursue the Arizona Cardinal Department. My father never would have done that. Now, did he love me? Yes, he bordell and obsessed over me, right? That would cause issues. But was that career there? My father was a better grandfather than father because my father was at all the events and was just amazing. And I added, you know, people in Minnesota just expected every day my father was going to be there. And I was worried about going too long because I really wanted to say the biggest thing the legacy should be by my father is wake up every day with a purpose. With a purpose. I don't care if you're retired. Know what you're going to do. My father every day was going to go to five, six places. He was going to go there. He was going to go to work. And then he was going to come over and drive me nuts. Right? Or we would love each other. Whatever. My father also would have loved Saturday night. Saturday night, Hunter and his amazing wife, Michaela, celebrated their wedding with friends. Oh, wonderful. They, we all had traveled due Hawaii to Maui, La Dida, good for us, though. Back in the fall, right? November 5th. Yep. So it's a very small group. But then a place I would highly recommend. Lucky guys distillery. And there were maybe 100 to 150 in and out. And we had a few people. Everybody can invite few people. So I only brought people and like three or four couples couldn't make it who had known Hunter for a long time. Right. And so did Kathleen. And to see Hunter and Michaela. and what unbelievable human beings they are. And I've obviously known Hunter since 735, April 5th, 1995, when the first thing he did was pee on his mom's stomach. But it's the most memorable moment in my life. And Hunter, Fannie Michaela, she is, she's not a 10, she's an 11. She's so kind. She's smart. She's caring. And they're such a good fit for each other. And then to see my middle son Griffin and the charisma that just and the heart that he has. And to see Quentin and this great stretch. And then Michael is there. And the kindness that Michael continues to show to Quentin. And just to see people interact, just to have those two events, Dave, within three days. I've seen, and obviously my significant other Michelle was there and were crazy about each other. And then I've talked on and on about the great relationship Kathleen and I have. And just to see others in my niece, Callie's there with her husband, Dan, and they just, they don't get better than those two. My sister in Flesham couldn't make it. She's battling some significant demons. health-wise, and it's not easy for my sister. She's got to be a hell of a mom because her daughter is what every person to aspire for and her husband is just as great. And just have all this happen in a three-day period and have Hunter and I spend the day. We flew into Raleigh and we found this great food hall and just having really important conversations, then just endlessly needling each other, you know.

20:43

him telling me how much taller is than me and just it was just great stuff it was just and there can be a lot a lot of bad and like i was going to work in nika costa during the moment when i was up there and i thought i don't think these folks are going to know nika costa is but there's a reason when we play at the start of the show everybody's got there something Because we do. And you might be in a part of your life right now where you're something is just weighing you down. It's just an anvil. Or it might be a stretch like I cannot tell you how proud I was of all the people in my life. And how incredibly lucky I feel to see my father honored. And God, I wish you would have been there. But the legacy he has left and to see where my family's at right now and I hope we all just relish those stretches. And I hope we fight like hell to get through the stuff when things are just challenging. Because it's worth it. It just is worth it to have the great times. And sometimes you have to be like what, Andy Dufrein. and climb through a lot of you know what? 500 yards. Exactly. To get there, but when you get there and you don't know how long it's going to last, it's pretty damn good. Rina is next. World Cup soccer expert, Rina. Sarjanopoulos is with us. Harry Kane, legendary England star, just scored. And evens England with Congo one one. I was thinking this would be appropriate for us as we celebrate our 250th anniversary arena to revel in England going out against Congo. But you know what England says so far? Not on our watch. Sources tell me that you have watched every second of every game. of the World Cup, that no one has more World Cup fever than you. Is that correct? I'm sorry, I missed all of that. I wasn't paying attention. That hurts. I'm here. I laid it all out. Dave, do we believe Rina, if the over-under, not it's on in the background, where she sat down. in like a queen throne, which I assume she has, both at Kara Levin and at home. With a scepter. Scepter, and she knights people occasionally. Has she watched over five seconds of the World Cup, Dave, over or under? Not counting on the background, not counting if it's on in the newsroom and she peeks up at the TV for just a second, that it would be under five seconds. Are we both correct? You are both correct. Yes. However, what times are game tonight? Seven, I believe, is the U.S. kicks it off. Okay, seven against Bosnia.

24:12

Herzegovina. Did you look up the facts? I told Dave to look up five facts on Hertzcovina. About Bosnia? Yeah. Well, no, we know. I feel like we know a little about Bosnia. A little. A little bit about Bosnia. A little bit about, yeah. Herzegovina is like the cousin you never knew who shows up at the wedding. You're like, who are you? You know. You will, Dave, I'm, you're working tonight, right? 10 o'clock. No, I'm off. I did Monday Tuesday 10 a positive. Oh, well, that ruins us. Four and six today. That ruins the whole thing because I was going to say, Dave. She was going to say, I loved that USA World Cup victory. Have to do the anchor fake. The anchor fake when the truth is you really don't care that much about it, which is fine, by the way. You're just being honest. Well, okay. Yeah. Okay. Hold on. Hold your horses. Step back for a second. How many horses do you think I could hold? Do I... Probably just one. Yeah. I can't imagine you being able to hold more than one horse. That hurts. Do I want USA to win just because I love the USA? Absolutely. Am I going to watch? Probably not. And this is, I will watch virtually any sport. I just don't understand soccer. Also, it's weird that we call it soccer and everyone else calls it football and it's just, it's too confusing. Okay. Stop. Stop. Stop. That's the part that is too confusing for you. It's called football elsewhere and soccer. So if it was called football here, then you're in? 100%. I mean, like, let's be real. The name means very much. Does she also not measure things because we use inches, not talk about the temperature because we're Fahrenheit versus Celsius? Yeah. You can tell that during when she throws to weather, you know, to Bell and, I don't know, Bell Jr. now. She really, she wants it. Good old Bell Jr. She wants it to be the whole metric system. Celsius. Yeah, Celsius. It's a funny story. I have a funny story about that. Yeah. My husband's car is in Celsius, not Fahrenheit. I think it must have come from Canada, and he cannot change it. And he's tried? Yes. He even went so far as to call, like, the automaker, and there's no way to change it. I would like that. I think that's pretty cool. Now, I'd have to remind myself, you know, divide here. You know, the 3.2 and figure things out a little bit. But, yeah, it's something unique to have. Is this like this must, this has to be unique, Dave. High end, what's your guess? Austin Martin.

27:13

Maserati. Austin Martin? First of all, it's an Ashton Martin, not an Austin Martin. I did say, no, no, maybe it is the Austin Martin. That's what it is. The Austin Martin. Oh, my God. Where's the elk? What time did I start drinking today? I don't even know. You think we talk more about that when he's with the twins that he's got this car business going? I don't know why. After him, it's great. Yeah. Yeah, the Celsius started situation. That's pretty good. Okay, we're going to pause early because I want to get you and the listeners in. Are you aware of these people who climbed a certain building today, Rena, in the last? Oh, my lamb. Okay. So let's get to that. and we'll see if people can chime in on a unique aspect of this story. Our friend, Rina, she'll be on Care 11 today with four and six and at some point throwing the weather to Bell Jr. I'm going to talk Aquarius. I'm going to talk water. I'm going to talk about it right now because I have some Aquarius water right here, but you know what? I drank so much that I'm going to have to... settle, Dave Harrigan, be disappointed by having water semi-filtered on the third floor. That's not good. No comparison. Aquarius homeservices. Acquarius homeservices.com earning the right to be recommended since 1987. I have been a customer since 1999. I can tell you about the deal. I'm going to tell you about the deal tomorrow. Because it's July 1st. And we'll break down this deal day after day. I just want to talk about reliability. Think about the tens and tens and tens of thousands of Aquarius customers in this state and across the region. Think about how many people you hear in the media. talking about Aquarius because we've had the product, we believe in the product, and it's so essential. Quality water is what we need. We need it. How about when we're taking a shower? The right water softer. You need it for the dishwash. You need it for your clothes. You need it for all the recipes when you're making good food. Aquarius gets it done with this partnership with Connecticutco and their amazing Connecticutco drinking water system. Absolutely, positively, unequivocally worth going online today. Aquarius homeservices.com. Harry Kane has done it. Again, less than four minutes to go before extra time. Stoppage time, please. Stoppage time. Excuse me, that's exactly right. And Harry Kane's second goal in England after trailing the first 70-some minutes. Because Congo scored very early, right? Minutes seven, I believe. Yeah. Watch this one. Harry Kane comes out of here and.

30:22

ends up getting this great pass, elusive going to his right. Just a cannon to the upper left-hand side of the goal. I wanted to step in because I knew Reno would describe it that way too. Golazzo. I have a question. Yeah, go ahead. You know, in hockey, like, the goal is very tiny, and the man in front of it is very large. Yeah. And somehow they manage to score quite a bit. In soccer, the goal is, like, bigger than a warehouse door, and the person in front of it is very tiny, yet it's often, like, zero to one. Like, how is everyone kicking, not scoring a goal? Dave, you want to give this a try or I can chime in either way? You can lead the way, sure. First of all, you have the defenders out there. It helps. And you have the offside situation, right, where the offensive player arena cannot pass the defensive player until the ball crosses that defensive player. So it prevents a lot of the breakaways that you get in the NHL. I think... The strategy in soccer on the defense, when they bring so many of their defenders back, that often the offense is outnumbered in these sequences, don't you think? Yes, I do. Right? So it makes it incredibly difficult. What would you also add, Paley? Kicking the ball is not always easy to do. The control of it. They're professionals. Apparently, how many goals? If you were playing for England right now, are you saying you'd have like seven goals in this game? 11. I mean, like, let's be real. 7-11, get it? I mean, we're at saying. Slurpy talk. Six, seven. Is that you trying to be younger there a little bit with the 6-7? No, that's me being old because no one says it anymore unless they're old. You just got to it? Two people in the last... I just heard about this yesterday. Yeah, exactly. Two people in the last 90 minutes taken into custody after climbing to the top of wait for it, the Empire State Building with a massive banner. The banner read, When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace. Again, when the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace. Pretty good banner, right? Sounds like Huey Lewis. Exactly. He would bring it back. Then it appears one propose to the other. And then the authorities. showed up. I mean, the first question is, how in the hell did this happen in this little place we call New York City when we're getting ready for a 250th anniversary arena? Seems like a rather large security lapse.

33:26

That is a massive security lap, especially because they're probably even more tourist there than normal. I hope these people face every charge that can come at them. I'm just, I'm so over people, the egocentric trying to get followers and look at me. And I'm just, And I hope people don't praise them or give them a deal, some sort of martial deal or whatever it is that these people are seeking. I wish I didn't even have to talk about it today. I'm that mad about it. But they will, right? Do we agree they're going to get a lot of publicity? Absolutely. Considering the impact of New York, the Empire State Building, Dave? They need to face significant charges. They do. Because I can only imagine the alert they caused in the area. And at the same time, I'll go back to the first part. How incompetent. How was this made available? Like when I walked in, I saw it and I thought, I wanted to say, what about a security lapse? And I right away went to, my God, is something horrific about to happen right here? And then it's a message, which, again, let's have more peace. I'm all for it. Let's have more love. But this is the way you do it. Now, let's say when you were proposed to, your husband said, I have a unique night. And what we need to do is we're going to climb the Empire State Building. And then I have something very important. to ask you, how would you have held up climbing the Empire staple? Well, I believe these people are stunt. She's a stunt artist, and they do this all over the world. Don't they have like a documentary or something that they've done about them climbing places? They shouldn't be climbing. That's what I'm seeing. Yep. But we're on to you now. I would not, I mean, I clearly, yeah, no. You know me. I can't walk from the car to the building without tripping and falling. Dave, should that be a new documentary? How Rina Sargentopolis. Rina watching. Cracks in the sidewalk. The Rina story. How many injuries does Rina participate in? Can she handle this children's slide? Or avoid on a regular basis? No, she cannot. Yes. Did you guys have a unique story when the proposal took place? Yeah. It's a cute story. Okay. Let's hear. Do you remember the restaurant Tarazo? Yeah, sure. So we used to go there all the time, obviously, before children's, and just sit at the bar. Like, I'd never sat anywhere else in the restaurant but the bar. And then we were going there one night, and he's like. We're sitting in this one table that's in the window. And I was like, why? And he's like, because Kyle's not working at the bar tonight. He's working in the restaurant. I'm like, who's Kyle? Like, I don't, why are we what's happening? And then.

36:59

He had gathered everyone from every facet of our life. And I turned and looked and there was the little girl from down the street. And she was standing in the window and it was holding up like a cue card. And then like everyone kept coming and everyone had another cue card. And it was like a little story. And when it got to the end, it said turn around. And then I turned around and he was there on one knee and he proposed. That is a great story. I mean, it's not as good as climbing the Empire State Building, but, Dave, it's the second best story we've heard today, right? So far. Yeah, Days Young, but it's good. It's a solid number two. That's beautiful. And that's a lot of work and a lot of coordination. And the Q cards. Yeah. Well, I mean, you're used to reading Q cards. Perfect. Yeah, exactly. That is right. Yeah, that is awesome. All right. Enjoy the rest of the day. And then you're in here Friday, right? I am in there on Friday. If you have any ideas for what I should talk about, you just let me know there, friend. And also, before you let me go, congratulations to you and your family and your dad's induction. I'm really happy for all of you. Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. Dave and I will send you a list about 150 ideas for Friday later today. I love this. Thank you. Rina. Yeah, she's in for Vanita on Friday. Judge Kevin Burke, one of our favorites, Supreme Court ramifications from yesterday and moving forward with Judge Burke early next hour. Hour number two on an outstanding guest, a man has joined us many, many times over the years. Judge Kevin Burke, for three plus decades, a judge with Hennepin County multiple times as their chief judge, and we always love talking to Kevin. Like Rina, all guests on the John Schuster, Coldwell Banker hotline. Kevin, I just ran upstairs and had half of a donut. Where does Kevin Burke rank donuts as a breakfast treat? Like, how does it compare with like a croissant or a bagel or an English muffin? It's not as a bagel. You're a bagel guys. Dave Harrigan, what do you want to say about that? It's been fun having you on the show, Kevin. You have a great rest of the day. Yeah, we've got to go. Neither one of us really loves. I think both of us are pretty clear. The bagel overrated. Oh.

39:35

He's speechless. I mean, he's speechless. I mean, once we attacked him on the bagel, he refuses to accept it. He's right now. We are out of order. He will hold us in contempt. No, I want bagel with locks and red onions and some capers. Yeah, the whole thing. Now, do you have a good place in town where you go for a bagel? I go to Brueger's, but... I'll go any place. Ideally, I'd go to some deli in New York. That'd be pretty good. But I don't go to New York very often. I'll give you a place, Kevin. L. Mars. It is a New York-style restaurant. They primarily serve great classic New York-style pizza, but I think it's Thursday, Friday, Saturday. They make bagels, and they are very, very good. Marty's Deli, good bagels. There's some good place in town. Let's get to the main topic of the day, multiple important legal issues determined by the Supreme Court yesterday. The one that is garnering the most attention, obviously, is the executive order from the president trying to end birthright citizenship. In this country, the executive order was thrown out. The justices, Amy Coney Barrett and Chief Judge John Roberts joined the three liberals. Brett Kavanaugh did also. You can explain the difference how Brett Kavanaugh joined the other two conservatives where he differed a little bit. Did they, in your esteemed opinion, make the right decision? I think that the birthright citizenship was not the most important case decided yesterday, but let me just focus on it. First of all, the five justices who ruled the language of the Constitution is quite clear. If you look at Samuel Alito's dissent, a guy who claims he's a textualist. There's nothing in the Constitution that says what he wrote. Now, the problem about Brett Kavanaugh's concurrence is this. Brett Kavanaugh invited the Congress to eliminate birthright citizenship. And you can see that Trump... picked up on it right away. Yep. That means that issue is going to keep floating around, I think, for a long time. I doubt very much if the Congress is going to pass the birthright citizenship, but it's an issue that'll keep, there'll be some people who will keep fighting to eliminate citizenship. for a relatively small number of people, meaning hundreds of thousands, but it's not like you're dealing with half of our population or anything. I think the most important case was the slaughter decision, which allows President Trump or any president to remove employees.

43:11

And this is why I think this is really critical. Every government, state government, federal government, the British government, the Canadian government, have a cadre of professional civil servants who work from term to term. Their loyalty is... to the EPA or to whatever department they live. In theory to the government, not to the president himself. Right. Now, with the slaughter decision, President Trump will be allowed to remove large swaths of people. And you'll notice in the Justice Department advertising for lawyers, they're advertising not do you know about the rules of evidence, but are you prepared to commit yourself to advancing President Trump's agenda? So in 2008, what will happen to our country if a Democrat becomes president? Option A, you could fire everybody in the federal government and start from scratch. Or I think a better thing to do would be to say, now we have to decide what should the federal government look like. So President Trump, without the authorization from Congress, eliminated the Department of Education. It's not about just recreating. It's about saying and debating, what should we do as a federal role for education? And so I think the effect of the slaughter decision is you can't remodel the house. You need to basically knock it down and start from scratch once the next president has an opportunity to do that. I want to stay with this, but I definitely want to get back to birthright citizenship, but I want to stay since you brought it up. I just, I know what you're saying, and first of all, Kevin, I'm not convinced that on February 1st, Donald Trump will be gone from the White House. I mean, he might view himself as president for life, or by the way? JD Vance or Marco Rubio could win, just in my political opinion, if the Democrats keep going further to left and the Republicans run Marco Rubio, Democrats might be in deep trouble, even with all the antipathy towards Donald Trump. But, I mean, this is where even true Republicans, true conservatives should say. as another checks and balances. I mean, you use the EPA, where if I'm just a government employee of the EPA, I'm following the code of what we're trying to do within that apparatus. And certainly every president, Clinton, Obama, let's just called the Democrats, had an influence on who they pointed ahead that. But the overwhelming majority of these folks were skilled in that area.

46:29

and executed their jobs. And now, Kevin, you're just lackeys of the president going forward. You will not conduct anything impartial. You will not try to provide a counterbalance to the presidency. You will just espouse whatever position. They are offering up, and I'm sorry, I don't want that out of my government apparatus, whether it's a Republican or a Democrat, controlling the White House. Well, you don't want that in any organization that if your employees are afraid to challenge you. you're not really going to grow as an organization. It's a very simple thing is dissent has an important role in the development of whatever place you work for. The State Department, for example, used to have a dissent award. Each year they gave a cash award to the best dissent by a State Department employee. You know, a lot of these issues are not clear. That's right. And you really want to have robust debate. Or the other area is you kind of alluded to it. It's scientists. Yeah. You really don't want to end up saying we will load up the federal government with people who are opposed to vaccinations. And everybody's going to be healthy after that.

48:09

Yeah. Let's get back to birthright citizenship. Let me do this, Kevin. Let me just squeeze in a break before we do, because I do want to get back to that. I also want to get back to another campaign finance decision that the Supreme Court offered up where it just seems to me we're headed to. There'll be no limits. And we think we're at an amount of money that's obscene now. With elections, we're headed to no limits, and excuse me, billions and billions of dollars. And I think that's absolutely the wrong way to go. Former Chief Judge of the Hennepin County Courts multiple times and a judge within the system for 30 plus years. Kevin Burke with us here on CC. Will I get to the bumper music theme next segment? We continue with our friend. Judge Kevin Burke is with us. Okay, birthright citizenship. Let's get a few things out of the way, too. There are many, many countries across the globe who have birthright citizenship. So that nonsense that the president offers up is not true. This whole birther tourism, the idea that, you know, millions and millions are coming here. That's also not true. But for people, Kevin, who honestly say, if someone who came to the country not through the proper legal channels or someone is visiting and a child is born here. And they have questions about that. What do you say about that argument from people trying to be honest and not just so hyper-partisan about the issue? Well, it's a small number of people looking at our whole population. And I saw Stephen Miller's reaction to the Supreme Court decision, which was to suggest we should bar pregnant women from coming to the U.S. Now, just think about that for a second. How absurd is this? Oh, my God. What months do we want to employ this? So are you really seriously going to tell women who are coming here for a vacation? You can't come as long as you're pregnant. That's absurd. Are we going to be checking them? Like, at the airport, say, you know. We've got this little test. We need to go to the bathroom and pee, and then we'll wait and see what the results are. For every female that comes to the country. The whole idea, it seems to me, goes to this problem. Right now, we have seen a decline in tourism, which is important to the economy in many places like Minnesota. The image that we are creating by fighting with Canada, by taking on Europe, and then by the idea of suggesting, well, maybe pregnant women won't be able to come to the U.S., I think I'll go vacation in France. So this is kind of getting out of control. But it goes back a little bit to my comment about Brett Kavanaugh. Yeah, right. Brett Kavanaugh kept the issue alive.

51:27

that, well, okay, if we can't completely get rid of them, we'll just get rid of the pregnant women. Yeah, it doesn't surprise me with Stephen Miller says a lot of just inane, for my opinion, borderline racist comments on a regular basis. Let me get back to another comment you made about Samuel Alito and other conservative scholars and judges who tell us all the time, I just go by the words in the Constitution. And also I want to include the folks who, when they push back on any sort of gun legislation, will say, nope, second amendment, what the Second Amendment says, I'm not going to alter that in any way. If they're going to alter birthright citizenship, they're altering what the Constitution says. Isn't that pretty crystal clear? Well, it is if you accept the five justices who ruled that way. But there are many people who don't. I want to pursue this. But I would remind them that the Second Amendment decision that is so sacrosanct. was a five to four decision that overruled decades of precedent, including comments from former Chief Justice Warren Berger, who said the idea that the Second Amendment confers an individual right to get arms is silly. So if you want to consider a go. attack and continue to fight on birthright citizenship because it was only a split decision, then the gun thing is going to be there. Now, the gun thing actually didn't get a much publicity, but yesterday the Supreme Court accepted cert, meaning they're going to have an argument as to whether the Second Amendment bans assault weapons. and they've taken a couple of cases to deal with that next fall. So we could be next June on WCCO discussing a Supreme Court decision that allows everybody to go get a bazooka. Yeah, I mean, think about the debate we've had for a while. Yeah, I just, I think it's so funny, Kevin, when people are. literal on the Constitution or call someone an activist judge. For a lot of these folks, Kevin, you know what an activist judge is when someone offers an opinion they don't agree with? That's... Oh, you're completely right. That's when they're... Now, the other thing that I think we should talk about, though, is the decision on campaign finance. Yes, that's where I was going. Because we have now reached the stage in which oligarchs... can contribute unbelievable amounts of money. And it started with Citizens United, but it's pretty much been done in now that there's little, if anything, the present U.S. Supreme Court will accept as a regulation of campaign finance. That can undermine our democracy.

54:53

because you're talking about huge amounts of money. Maybe in places, for example, Maine. Maine's going to spend a god-awful amount of money on their Senate race. But as a practical matter, if you get seven mailers a day or six mailers a day, will it change your opinion on Susan Collins? Probably not. The first five have enough. So a lot of this is just going to be dumped on us. And, but I really do think that these two are important. One, the federal government needs not be run by people whose only allegiance is to the president, which the slaughter decision did. And then the second one, which is, as we select our leaders, we can't afford to have it just decided by billionaires. That's where we're at, right? And I, as a political and personal opinion matter who gives my opinion here, I hate it. I think if we could reduce our elections to like four months and just dramatically control the money, we would be better off. I believe we would get better candidates. However. I want us to follow the laws of the land and the Constitution. And are they doing that? Are they now saying in particular because of Citizens v. United that basically any guardrail on money and elections is either out of here now or soon to be gone? Well, there's a political element to this beyond just the Constitution and its text as an illustration of the Supreme Court ruled at states, which constitutionally is supposed to run elections. can count ballots that are received after election day. Correct. And yet you have these textualists like Samuel Alito blasting that decision at being terrible for our democracy. You know, I bet any dollars to donuts because they know you like donuts. Thank you. That there are everybody, a lot of people listening to us. mailed their tax returns in and made sure it got postmarked on April 15th. Yeah, funny. So the idea that, oh, my God, how could we allow this to happen? Because we do it all the time. Yes. That is exactly right. All right. One last thing. I'm reminded often that when Donald Trump had the three selections,

58:04

and, you know, Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh, that there are many liberals out there who thought the world was going to end. And there are decisions every single day where they're 9-0, or as we've talked about some cases here where more often it seems to be John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett side with the liberals. But there are many people, Kevin, who look at the rulings with the three self-described. liberal justices where they say, when do they move, that they don't move, that they're just a block, that those three are always in lock step, and that seems every bit as partisan as the accusation towards the Trump judges. Do those folks who make that point, are they correct? I think there's an element of correctness with it, but I think it goes like this. Ideally, the Supreme Court... would have more 9-0 decisions. But to be in fairness to them, they select cases, and they tend to select cases that are close calls. There's a split in the circuits. Yeah, they're difficult decisions, right? So you're difficult decisions. I get the idea that not everything could be unanimous. But I saw a chart, I think it was in the New York Times today, that showed. The split, the number of six three decisions going back 20 years, we're really in a polarized court. And I suspect, but I don't have any inside information, that the to do between Samuel Alito and Ketanji Brown Jackson or Elena Kagan.

1:00:04

they don't get along very well. And I think it's hard. If you don't respect somebody, if you secretly think they're a raving lunatic, it's really hard to reach compromise with them. Can I jump in on that? Should somebody listen to say, now wait a second. You're a Supreme Court justice. That's fine if you don't get along for whatever reason. But you still have to interpret the law. And if the three liberal justices are always together time after time after time, are they just espousing their political views? Or are they espousing how the Constitution is written and how it's interpreted in today's times? Well, I think it's hard to generalize, and I'll give you this specific example. The present Supreme Court in the slaughter decision overruled a precedent that was a case that was 90 years old. The same conservative justices in the Dobbs decision overruled precedent. So if you end up saying that the three justices in the, quote, liberals are just dogmatic, is at least from a conservative standpoint, they're saying, hey, this is a decided issue. And you guys are the ones who are making stuff up as you go along. But in the end, I think it's they all need to, they need a professional to come in and work with them. You know, because the opinions are too long. Nobody's actually going to read the whole decision. And they take shots at each other that you don't really need. No. It shouldn't be that way. Kevin, always a pleasure, tremendous insight. Thank you for having me. Absolutely. Keep playing excellent golf and enjoy the fourth. Okay, bye-bye. Kevin Burke. Swift takes when we return. What is today's unknown bupper music theme so far? I think you can probably guess at hearing it right now. We've got LeBron music. It's LeBron Fever, baby. I tracked out a lot of really bad LeBron-related music today. John Krasinski with us at 235. I've offered up my guest bedroom. I said he's got to come on the show occasionally. Contributor. He's got to hang with Quentin a little bit. That would be fine. I'll get him lined up a golf. I'll get it done. Shouldn't be a problem. I might even be able to help him out with the winter golf too. I got a guy. Look at you. I got a guy. Bronny, no. As I said on the Twitter machine. Sons have followed their dads in the same profession. Get out of here. It's pretty embarrassing. I asked on Twitter, John Krasinski, is he willing to let LeBron stay? We'll get to that. Next hour, 235. You guys.

1:03:39

celebrating a half birthday. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You should lose your children. Anyone who celebrates a half birthday bring your children to the authorities. You will get an email update on them every three years. There is no such thing as a half birthday. It is. There is no such thing on Sunday. I will claim her. She got to pick dinner. No. She can pick dinner. And then when she didn't get what she wanted for dinner, said, well, you don't wait for lunch. Hold on the second. Hold on a second. If you get to pick dinner and don't get what you want, how is that picking dinner? She had it for lunch the next day. What kind of half birthday is this? Well, she wanted Culvers, but we had a lot going on. The little one was in the in the tub or in the shower. We were coming home from softball. I had to meet somebody about a thing. The little ones in the tub and you're just coming home? My wife was at home. Oh, okay. I was a little worried. We had the softball practice. Then I had to meet a woman about a pair of soccer cleats. We were buying a Facebook marketplace. You know, we don't have time for culvers today. We don't have time. We can pick up a pizza. You tell me what kind of pizza. Sounds like a lousy half birthday. We'll get the half birthday. Now that's the birthday. The half birthday is over. First of all, there's no such thing as a half birthday. And she's still getting something? Who are you? Greatest father, husband of the year? God. Are you with me, ladies and gentlemen, 651-4-6192-26. Should you lose your children if you're celebrating a half birthday? Well, your birthday is coming up in 13 days. July 13. 12 days, really, if we're doing the math correctly. I count today. Okay, I count today. We'll pass noon splitting hairs here. Okay. Let's split your hairs. Should we start January 13th, too, big day? I celebrate it. Believe me. Don't think I don't. I have a countdown beginning on July 14, reminding everyone in my household. Daddy's half birthday's coming up. Hope you're planning some nice gifts. You should be taken away yourself. You cannot. Celebrate a half-birth. Can I hit the thing yet? Yeah, I hit the thing. There we go. It's a preview. It's a teaser. You're a teaser. I'm a geezer or I'm weezer, as I did you say? Teaser. Yeah. That's what I've heard. Do we believe the Travis and Taylor festivities are actually going to take place at Madison Corcoran? I have been pushing back the entire time saying this is, I'm not even sure. Maybe the whole Empire State Building couple climbing up there today, that might have also been a part of the Taylor Travis.

1:06:40

distraction. They're not really getting married at Madison Square Garden. I mean, they're actively setting up right now. They've got all the trucks and the forklifts. I saw it rolling through New York. You're still on this. I mean, I've read multiple stories because a men's clothing store can't see it post on Instagram earlier this month. Andy Reed, getting ready for the Travis Kelsey, Taylor Swift Wedding. Great. That doesn't mean it's at Madison Square Garden. Then put it on pay-per-view. Well, then why not? If it's going at the garden, the world's most famous arena, put the baby on pay-per-view, and let's all celebrate. And donate the money to some great charitable cost. If they'd put it on pay-per-view, let's go. It's got to be 95. 1995. Okay? How many people would sign up to watch the wedding? What's your ballpark? What's your over-under? 1995. That's your cost to watch the wedding on pay-per-view. Yep. And let's go not in the... Should we go the evening? No, let's go Friday night, July 3rd, when a lot of people have not worked, but it's not the 4th of July. So it is go time, 8 o'clock MSG, 7 o'clock central time, 5 o'clock L.A. How many millions would put the money down to watch the Travis... Taylor wedding. 800 million. So we've expanded outside of the United States. Because you better expand outside the United States of America. She's worldwide. I mean, the Aeros Tour went everywhere for goodness sake. People love her. What would it be, seriously? Are you getting $10 million? Are you getting $5?10? Over five. I mean, zero for me. Zero. And I like Taylor. I'm Team Taylor. What if Q said he wanted to watch the wedding? You'd sign up so it could be on every TV in the house. I probably would. I say no to him once a millennium. You'd be dressed up like Travis, have the jersey. Yeah. I did at this event talk to Blair Kirkoff, who won writer of the year. And I asked him, so what's it like covering Kelsey now that it's just, he's like a phenomenon how he goes. unrecognizable. We used to be great. We used to talk to him. He would be honest after games now. It blows us all off and saves the first show where he's paid a lot of money with his brother. Text me right now. If it's 1995, how many millions across the globe would pay to watch this? And also, do you still believe it's going to be at Madison's Guard? I, this might shock you, Dave. I'm a bit stubborn. No, it is not going to be there. That there may be a party there with other people, but they're not going to be there, and the wedding is not going to take place. Are you rolling over?

1:10:21

and saying the New York Knicks, Mike Walk, Tate, down the receiving line. Cat, Brunson, Mike Brown going with who let the dogs out because that's what he does now every time you see him. Nick's alumni too. Why not? Clyde Frazier. Yeah, you in there? Absolutely. Yeah, Bill Bradley. Yes or no, will it be at MSG? Yes. No. 651, 461, 9226. You want me to talk Pella? I could almost hear you. Yes. What I'd say? Pella. Pella. Pella windows and doors. Come on. Now downtown today. Hoping. Right? There's a lot of, I'm surprised how many people are now. I thought today it would be ghost town early, maybe tomorrow. I think people are getting the work in now. Maybe that's it. That's it. I know a guy who's going to be out here Friday. Pella's ready for you today. Pella Northland.com. They're going to help you out when you go home. Maybe your home listeners right now. Thank you so much. Maybe you're listening on the podcast. Maybe you're listening on the stream, whatever it might be. Be honest, you have no idea how old your windows are, how old the door is or the doors, and how they're working. Go to petlandnorthland.com or head over to one of their three-in-area showrooms. Woodbury? That's where Dave lives. I might avoid that one. Brooklyn Park, fine. Come to my side of the town, come to Plymouth. All great places, you'll see everything they have, and they also, when you go to PellaNorthland.com, will provide you an in-home visit for free. Maybe they tell you you're good. You meet some nice people. You move on with the rest of your lives. I had Pella at one house, including some remodeling a few years ago. Then life said, guess what? You thought you were going to stay there for a long time? You're not. I moved, and I made sure 100% because I've worked with them that Pella would be a part of it. Great company. Pella windows and doors. Among the texts, I think you should charge for the wedding 1776 for the obvious reasons. Oh, that's very good. Very good. Travis needs now to climb the Freedom Tower and the Washington Generals will meet the top of the rings. Maybe that was them atop the Empire State Department. How do we know it wasn't? We don't know. We don't know at this point. Todd from Rogers, he's with me. Hell know it's a smokescreen. It is. I think putting the wedding on pay-per-view would be a travesty. Ha, ha, ha. I get that. Get it? Mm-hmm. I'd say it would be tailor-made. We could go here for a while. Turning to a commercial enterprise kind of takes away the romance, don't you think? How about all the folks who are convinced for years? My guy, Charge, I think he still is convinced. The NFL put them up to this. I mean, that's some serious commitment. It's possible. It started that way, and then...

1:13:38

You know, love blooms in strange places, Chad. So there's like the Americans, you know. You were one, I remember. Don't deny it because when the first, you know, reports are that this is happening and there are a couple and this is, you know, this is a real thing. You were one that said, mm-mm. No, I don't believe. No, you are not believing in love. I believe you are incorrect. No, no, I'm 100% correct. My brain is much younger than yours. Who believes in love more than me? The rest of the world. I was a believer. No. I don't believe you're right because I was making fun of the folks who thought the NFL was behind it. Who did I think was behind it? I don't know who you thought was behind it. I thought you believed that they were simply doing it to benefit their own careers. Yes, absolutely. You said it was all for the cash. I think that, no, I do not. I'm pushing back. I think there's someone, Dolores on the committee thought that. You're getting me confused with Dolores. Revision is history. Shocking that you would stoop to that. My brother and I did a half birthday celebration for the kids, then the Alice in Wonderland on birthday song changed my mind of wanting to celebrate it. You only get to celebrate a half birthday if the actual birthday falls on a couple days around Christmas. There it does. December 28. She's sick of parties and food at that point. No. No. You should lose your children. You know, a half birthday actually party with all their friends is going to come up in a couple weeks. So you want to stop by? Skills that teachers believe kids are lacking, and these skills are absurd. People skills, communication, that's one. That's good. We'll agree with that one? Good for kids to have. For sure. Reading maps and analog clocks, they get more ridiculous. Curseif. You think? Any 15-year-old kid right now needs to be fluent, so to speak, in cursive. You can get your signature down. That's about all you need. That's it. Writing a letter. Are we writing a lot of letters right now? Who? I mean, are these teachers just trying to justify their existence? Wait for it. writing a check. Because every second grader needs to know how to write a check. A check! And then balance the checkbook, too. You got to save all the, you know, the backing thing, the two sheet. We got two-ply checks still. Do you get the two-ply? Yeah, I just balance the book right there, too. Okay. How many 10, let's go 10-year-olds right now in their life are going to write checks? Not more than about one a year. That might be your over under right there. Ability to focus, that is correct. Let's talk Donald Trump and the money he continues to make because it is staggering. And then when will John Krasinski break the news that LeBron James is taking his talents to Lake Superior?

1:16:52

We've talked before about the president and the astronomical amount of money he is making while back in the office. But it's back in the news today because two things. One, we have the mandatory financial disclosures from last year are now available. And today he's flying the Katari jet. which has been turned into Air Force One. And by the way, if, Dave, if he leaves in 2008, the plane in theory is going to the Trump library. Well, they haven't broken ground on that yet, right? He's going to be flying this baby. I don't know. He's indestructible, maybe for the next 40 years of his life. It's a nice gift. I don't know why you refuse to believe what he says. What was that? Which time? The gift isn't for him. No. It was a gift for the country. Sure. And I'm sure that means whether the next president, after he leaves office, as scheduled. Republican, Democrat, independent, whoever the next president is, I'm sure we'll get full use of that jet as Air Force One until the new Boeing's finally come in in about what, 268? I think we're... Well, in theory, they're supposed to be there in 2020. During... In theory, the president is finally in office. And so then, again, in theory... It will be donated to the presidential library once his termination. There is no President Trump library. He'll want to get that done soon. They got this giant place in Miami. You think he's just going to leave it off to the side at Mar-a-Lago? You don't think he's been flying around on this baby? No, I don't believe it. I don't know why you would not believe it. So then we get to his financial windfall. Winful. Putting it lightly. I'll just read a couple graphs here. President Trump reaped a stunning windfall in his first year back in the White House, including $1.4 billion from his cryptocurrency business. This is from actual filings. This is not made up, boys and girls. This isn't fake news. It's documents that the president and his advisors provided them. The president pulled in at least. Good year. 2.2 billion. That includes other parts of vast holdings, including the real estate, right? You wonder how it was the year before when he was running for president? 622 million. Thanks a lot, Biden economy. Yeah. He's asked about it again today. And he says, everybody's making money. Everybody's making money. Everybody's making money. Look at your 401k, baby. Because of your 401k, and then who did he thank for that? Himself. Himself. How do you think some folks are feeling when, again, he makes fun of affordability, when he's been incredibly dismissive for the housing bill, and that he's making billions.

1:20:35

through by the crypto. Most people know this for a long time. Donald Trump was utterly dismissive of crypto. It's not legit. I'm a traditionalist. And funny out of nowhere when the crypto folks started supporting him in his campaign to return to the White House. Just magically, coincidentally, his opinion changed. So why can't somebody be enlightened and change an opinion, Chad? Especially when you're making hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars off of it. They proved themselves right. He has learned and seen the light. I'm not sure everybody else has seen the light quite as much as Donald John Trump. They've got a 401K. It's up 85%. I don't know if you knew that. Thanks, Donald Trump. He doesn't give a bleep. about the affordability no he just doesn't he cannot conceptualize and again and again like i get it he was he was born very wealthy then he was given a huge chunk of change he's made a lot of money lost a lot of money made a lot of money back You still have to find a way in life to relate to things that you personally have an experience and he doesn't care. And it's part of this hook, Dave, the first term, too, when he was running was he would go to states and I will be your person. I will be the person for the forgotten man. Often, a lot of times it was forgotten white male. with overtones to guess look who's in the presidency. By the way, that guy, remember he kept telling us Barack Obama's not born here and stuff. He's a really independent guy, really open-minded guy. He doesn't care. He just, he only can judge the economy on how his wealthy friends are doing and the 401K. Groceries, old-fashioned term.

1:22:54

I just think it's almost impossible to be this tone deaf. And it's not just him. Let's not forget Jared. Jared and the billions he was given from prominent Middle East countries to be part of the hedge fund when that wasn't his business. Let's not forget there's this Kazakhstan deal the other day that the White House made. And guess which business is going to profit? Donald Jr. and Eric's businesses. So Trump, Inc. is going to benefit. Howard Lutnick's family, they're making tons of money all across the globe. Let's be consistent, boys and girls. When this show talked about Hunter Biden over and over and over and over again, I said for those jobs with Burisma and others, he wasn't qualified in any way. He wasn't. He was just banking on his name. When people mocked him for his addiction, I think that's gross. But his true qualifications for some of the jobs? No, absolutely not. But this is like Bass Lake to the Atlantic Ocean. Come on. And it... They don't even try to hide it that much. He doesn't, like, and then he says, well, I'm not taking the paycheck. Well, that's amazing. You made billions, so you didn't have to take the $400,000. That's a giver. That's a giver. That he's beautifying Washington, D.C. Just for you. Do you want to tell people about that one to the ballroom? Remember, we weren't going to pay a penny for the ballroom and the reflecting pool and wait until we get the arch of Trump. We're all paying for that again. Oh, we like the arch. Arch is going to be great. Arch is a small arch at the Great American State Fair that people can look at right now. How's that working on so far? Are there more people in your backyard right now? than at the Great American Fair. If the neighbor kids are over, probably yes. It's been tepid to start. But people, you know what, it's only going to crescendo as we get to the fourth. What a colossal failure that has been. Did you see Jim Acosta going around? No. Yeah, I was taking video and I was just mocking every part of it from the attendance to the arch that looks like it was put together by somebody who doesn't really know construction, like columns that are like a foot above the ground. At least he's doing what he should be doing though. Like when Acosta was CNN's White House correspondent or even when he had his hour show, he's just a lefty, which is totally fine. 100%.

1:26:22

Don't be your White House correspondent and just try to get clicks. If you want to do it now, you're separating the purest sense of a journalist to journalism within where you stand on your opinions. And that's totally fine, but CNN should have been embarrassed how long they had him in that position. And then we then get the big event, the National Mall. There's a couple reports today that's already sweating that out. They might not have a ton of people at that thing. If the state fair is any sign. Right. Attendants will be tepid, but we'll see. And again, move it to the ballroom. He might be able to move to the Oval Office. He invited all these acts that had been told it would be, you know, bipartisan. Let's be honest, it wasn't exactly the hugest of hugest names. And they all bailed. I didn't think Millie Vanilli was quite at the peak of their powers right now. I don't know. To be fair, vanilla ice didn't bail. They canceled on him. Yeah, exactly. And now it's just turned into a celebration of him. President me. He's the biggest star in D.C. Why not? We. should have this remarkable coming together for 250 years. We truly should. And for a lot of us who think he is wholly unqualified for the job, and he demonstrates that every day, in my opinion, you get to completely disagree. It's part of the exchange. He could have separated, but he can't. He literally can't. He wants the genuine... He wants the genuine admiration and love of him. I think this is what Jerry Ford was doing in 1976 while he's in the middle of a campaign. No, it was just about the country. And for him, it's every day about him. What have we just turned this into a remarkable opportunity? for all of us to donate money to charities across our country. What if we just said, this is our biggest ever, let's end cancer? And that would have been a part 250. And Trump could have just stepped away. And then you could have had some of the Hollywood lefties just be a part of it. And maybe it comes at the end, but because it's for a charitable cause, You just keep the ego out of it. I understand you are all entitled to vote for whoever you want and believe in him and massively disagree where the two of us stand in him. And you can think his policies are great. There are obviously still a lot of people who feel that way. His approval numbers now are very low. Maybe they'll turn. I don't know. But how can this not drive you nuts when he's making billions of dollars? And he's making this money all across the globe. And the money he's not making, lining the pockets of those who are loyal to them. Yes. Don't forget that part. Yes. Howard Lutnick, no-bid contracts on the pool, on the ballroom. The big slush fund that they were going to have. And that was just going to go to Flunkies.

1:30:09

You know, people debated a lot on the Jan Sixers. If they got any, it was going to be small, was it would be way more to his buddies. Way more. He has won the presidency twice. He has. I hope. Three times. Yeah, he did not. He lost in 2020. I know he can't accept it, but it's overwhelming. I hope some by some miracle. He actually starts relating to other people and gives a damn about folks other than the highest end. He just thinks everybody, listen, I'm a capitalist. I want no part of the far left, the Democratic Socialists. Another victory, Colorado yesterday. When Houser was dismissing it with us last week, I love you, Tom, you're wrong. Peggy Flanagan is going to win that race. Angie Craig, I'm with Jason today. The movement for the left is the further left and they will not be getting me. But this shows how wide open our country is because this guy is just about making dough and policies that I think reflects well on him. and reflects it on the country. If you're a moderate, this should drive you nuts. If you're a lefty, you're already bugged by them all the time. But even if you're a supporter, you go to the rallies, you love it. And he's making this in our economy, is floundering outside of the stock market. It just is. And some of it he absolutely inherited. He hasn't created everything. How is this not? ticking you off massively that this level of a cash grab and some of just flat out corruption is right in front of our eyes. 651, 461, 9226. This is a horrible LeBron song. It's from A.J. Big Justice. I think it's a dad and his kid. We will talk about the king. LeBron James. Is there a hope? You're saying there's a chance. Yes. Asquil-wise, it does make sense. There's no doubt about it. Windhorst mentioned the wolves as part of the teams. Oh, plenty of people have mentioned it. I don't know, but who knows LeBron better than Brian Winhorse? Been covering him since he was a high school. That's true. Let's see, Johnny Grisinski with us a little bit. Where are you and the many congresspeople are now millionaires, Dems and Republicans? We've called that out many times before. It's a joke. The amount of money Nancy Pelosi has made there. Get out of here. It's a long, long list of dubious insider trading. So, and I completely respect that people cannot listen every single show. But I am amused when somebody listens to me and then they assume because I didn't mention it this time that I've never mentioned it before. No doubt it should bother all of us. What happens to folks there? That's one of the reasons why term limits. I just was talking with Judge Burke last hour. Outrage the amount of money that we're spending in politics. So let's find a way to take it out. This guy.

1:33:57

has blown everybody out of the water. There's nobody close. Making billions. Come on. And the Hunter Biden stuff, again, called it out last segment. He was not qualified. No doubt about it. That is a peanut. compared to all the peanuts, the elephants eat at the biggest zoo on the planet. Again, that was corruption for Hunter Biden. Agree. No doubt. If you made fun of him because he was abusing drugs, then you're kind of pathetic, to be honest. There's two separate things. But why not just be consistent? Call them all out. I'm calling Hunter Biden. Now, we did it all the time when Joe was present. Don't play this game like we didn't call out Biden for years on the fact he intellectually wasn't equipped too many days to be present. We said that. It's not one or the other all the time, but then there's somebody who's so far as an outlier. Come on, Chad. You've got to say the guy can make money. He can make money. There's no doubt about it. Or text, I think you guys sound silly talking about the money. Trump is making money. When you don't talk about Mr. Phillips making money, he was in office. Please send me how much money Dean Phillips made with new businesses or completely enhancing his businesses when he was a congressman. And I will report it 100%. Does this person actually think that Dean Phillips, who is a very, very wealthy man, was making new businesses, anything close to Donald Trump? But if you can show me where he was making $5, $10, $15 million in new business just because of the congressman, we'll report it. I have no problem with that whatsoever ever. The 250th anniversary should be a big happy thing and Trump has turned into a bleep show. So sad. Oh, please. Is necessary to everyone left to hate prosperity? Come on. You're laughable. God. Okay. Now let's deal with facts. Fiscally, I am right of center. This state overtaxed. Always thinking we should tax the wealthy is not the way to go. Get out of here with the Democratic Socialists want no part of it. Funny, I don't think the president should be making billions in a single year while he is the president. I guess I'm a crazy socialist for thinking that. Our dear leader has never been a billionaire until now. He has stolen billions, lived off other people's money, and has generally been a financial predator and con man. He's a snake. Trump, Trump, Trump, instead of talking about him. Talk to the guys running against him. The Trump enablers, Emmer, Stahler, and the others. Talk about the folks who are running against those guys. We will have on other people in politics who are running later. We'd like to have Tom Amher on, but he's afraid to answer questions. And Pete Stauber for a long time would come on this show, but Pete just normally now, he likes the soft, cuddly stuff.

1:37:36

which is too bad because they should be willing as part of the job, face, direct, and fairer questions. Let's see. What can you do about it? You're not going to vote on it. The machine is too big. We've allowed this government to grow and grow. It's just going to a point. That's the sad part, Dave. Because the amount of money and the Supreme Court enabled it. the amount of individuals in Congress who make money. And because they control the apparatus and don't want to go anywhere, it's not going to change. Exactly. The people who are making the money are the people who have to change it. Good luck. Yep. But no one is going to make money like this guy, unless the guy replaces him is Donald Trump Jr., which might happen. John Krasinski next. We are playing horrible LeBron James music today that Dave Harrigan has found. So that's Dave's attempt today to help bringing LeBron. I on Twitter have offered LeBron James my guest bedroom. Okay? Guess bedroom. I like to drink wine. I like to play golf. So I've stepped up in the pursuit of the king. John Krasinski from the athletic chronicler of this team. Think about the book you could write. They finally did it. And it's you and LeBron arm in arm at the parade. Today, John, what have you done to bring LeBron, the kid from Akron? to blame Minnesota. Yeah, that's exactly what I've done, Chad, is I have, like, offered to have LeBron co-write the book with me. Nice. So we could share my byline, and I think that's a magnanimous thing. I'm not going to hog all the spotlight to myself. I'm going to share as well. And, yeah, and just, yeah, LeBron can, you know, can be part of the project in a major way. And I, what could beat that, really? What Minnesota sports surprise could top this if all of a sudden I'm on Twitter and I'm following John Krasinski and in three days you type these words, LeBron has agreed to a one-year deal to come to Minnesota. Somebody tell me a bigger surprise. I mean, far of coming here. is an enormous story. We had the helicopters following him. And I know the NFL is bigger and the Vikings are bigger. And Brett Farver is, I don't know, where he was the eighth best quarterback all time, whatever. But this guy's the second best player of all time. This would have to be the most stunning welcome to Minnesota moment ever. Since you were born, this is number two. Yes, right, exactly, Kat. I think that it would be a close second for sure. But, yeah, I was, though, I was thinking about that, you know, if by some crazy fashion this does happen. I do, it would be, you know, the biggest Minnesota sports moment outside of maybe the Twins World Series or something like that, you know, Kirby in game six and Jack Morse in game seven.

1:41:12

So all the things that it would represent, right? Number one, second best player of all time. Number two, coming to the Timberwold, this long, sad sack franchise. Number three, if he comes here, it is almost assured that he's taken a league minimum deal to do it. And so he is saying, I believe this is my best chance to win a fifth championship. And that, all of those things together, again. However unlikely they are, but if those stars did align, it would be just the story of all stories. It would be incredible. Alan Horton, get out of there. I'm coming back. You know, here's the deal. Alan, you keep broadcast, and I just want to be your stat guy for all the games. I'll just be there just to see it. Okay. The word happiness, okay, all the people who either interview Rich Paul or who are getting reports from LeBron, that's the word we keep here, that LeBron is pursuing happiness. Where do the wolves rank on the happiness scale? Yeah, I mean, that's a vague one, right? Because, I mean, if you're just... straight happiness, you'd probably say Golden State, right? He gets to play with Steph. Or Cleveland. Or Raymond Green. Or Cleveland being at home, perhaps. But I still think, like, you could argue, like, do you want to go back there again? Is that? Is that what you want to do? Right. Are you going to be happy with James Hardin? Like, you know, like that? No. I think that's a valid question. But I don't think those two are going to cross, right? If LeBron comes, they're not bringing Hardin back, are they? I don't know. I don't know. They don't have really anything else to go. If they don't, what are they going to do? But I mean, you can certainly make an argument. I mean, Governor Walls put it out on Twitter about the quality of life here in Minnesota. But, I mean, seriously, though. We do know for a fact that LeBron James really, really enjoys Anthony Edwards. They played in the Olympics together. He always is speaking very highly of him. And so there would be happiness there. I do think as well, this is an organization that would absolutely open every single door for him. There would be no restrictions whatsoever. So he could be very happy and content with doing... whatever it is that he wanted to do, whether it's from a content-making standpoint, whoever he wants to bring along with him, all of those things. He has, you know, he knows Alex Rodriguez. So, I mean, the only thing that you would say unhappy is the weather. Like, can he deal with that? Does he want to deal with it? And that's a big thing. I'm also guaranteed because his main place, I probably shouldn't say that when I'm going to, his main place to go when he's in town is our mutual friend David FEMA's Maison Margo. My, our boy, Dave, would flow there. Yes, I think my guy FEMA is willing to turn over a lot of the wine cellar. Okay, so let's talk about this. When the argument is out there.

1:44:25

that if purely for the way he plays right now, okay, and who he would want to be surrounded with, and we talk about the wolves near the top, God, it makes a lot of sense. Because if he really wants to win at a high level, I'm still dubious of the Warriors. Now, enormous egos and all that success, they just might think whether they get AD or not, they can do it. If he really wants to win, maybe goes to the garden and just says, McHale Bridges, go to the bench, and I'll start. Maybe San Antonio says, hey, I saw how discombobulated you guys were at the end. I'll just kind of guide Wembe one year. In our text thread, I threw out Denver because, man, it'd be magic to watch. But this fit, John, is really, really good. It just is on the floor. Yeah, it is. Real quickly, like, if you go to Golden State, I don't think they win because they're too old, but also you worry about at the end, well, this failed because they didn't go to a championship or something like that, even though they wouldn't. And so you can label that way. If you go to New York, if you go to San Antonio, it's a bald-faced. ring chase and nothing more like that would be it look at this is you know yeah this is the you know the second best player the best player ever is just going and chasing this you know shamelessly now if you come to minnesota this organization has never won before a bunch of young guys who have never won before i think that the the story is there to tell that is much more compelling and then to your point on the court You have Rudy Gober and Jane McDaniels to do the defensive heavy lifting. So LeBron doesn't have to put forth a ton of effort on that end. You have on the offensive side, you have Lamello and Ant and Jaden to really kind of I owe to carry a lot of the offensive load. And so I think it really shapes up to be a regular season of just cruise control for him and then get ready for the playoffs. And so. he would just slide in so perfectly, and there are so many pieces around him here that would be able to ease his burden as a 41 will be 42 in December guy that he shouldn't go somewhere where he has to carry a bunch of the load. Like that's not what is right for him now. They can't win. If he goes this place like that, they're not going to win, right? He can't be. Now, when we talk about what a great fit, what do you look at? I think last year, Lamello was seventh in usage, and Ant was ninth. He's not going to have the ball as much, but part of what makes LeBron so brilliant and what took away a little bit from him when they featured Luke even more and Austin Reeves even more, and there'd be times where he'd just be standing in the corner going, what am I doing here? He still has to have the ball. Is he going to feel like he'll have the ball enough with those two guys on the floor? It's a good question, and I even think whether LeBron is here or not, Chad, like that's going to be something that Timberwolves have to figure out. How do Lamello and Anthony work together in terms of just sharing the ball, sharing the usage, sharing kind of the role of the initiator of the offense? That is going to be a work in progress, I think, through training camp, probably through a lot of the first.

1:47:58

part of the year just for those two. Then if you were to throw LeBron into the mix there, yes, I think that there would be some real kind of, is there not enough balls to go around type of a scenario? But I do think that LeBron is so intelligent and understands, and I think they understand that they need him to make plays and facilitate because this is still a team that is on the lower end from a basketball IQ standpoint. I think that they would have no problem finding ways for him to feel incredibly valued and incredibly needed. And I just don't know that at this stage of his career, is he going looking for 25 shots somewhere? I don't think that's the case. I think he knows what he needs to do. And so it would be a little, it would probably be a. rocky early, but I think that's something that they could figure out as the season went along. So our friend John Krasinski from the athletic, we're talking about the dream with LeBron yesterday, saying the Lakers. It was very professional by both parties, too. They both handled it. Yeah. Extraordinary well, which for us, we probably wanted more acrimonies, but it was very, very well done. Let's talk about the intellect, because you're right. Lamello will be so entertaining. so enticing, so captivating, and then he's going to play a quarter and a half where you're going to be like, what in the bleep is he doing? We know Ant has that in him also. I don't think nearly as much as Lamello, but maybe I'll change my opinion when I see him. It cannot be emphasized enough how intelligent LeBron is as a player. And it's like every year he gets smarter and for... him to provide that guidance. And I'll add Jayden too. Because, you know, Jane gave us even more last year, including how wondrous he was in the Denver series and how very disappointing he was in the San Antonio series, right? To see that. commitment when he brings all his bells and whistles and shows up and keeps himself in incredible shape and just emphasizing running the plays right. You know, I mean, I saw the precision of Kevin doing that year after year after year, along with the fact he's still a very good player. We cannot forget what is. Oh, yeah. But then just to see that thorough professionalism on the plane all throughout. And then, by the way, These guys, as much as aunt, can go up to Obama and be just like, hey, how are you? They're still going to be a pretty aunt going, I'm playing with LeBron, bleep, and James for maybe a year or two. It would be, got to be magical. Absolutely. When you think about last year, Chad, one of the issues that this team ran into is they did not take the day-to-day grind mundanity with enough. kind of urgency with enough seriousness, right? Like it was, oh, we'll be fine, we'll get to the playoffs, it'll be okay. And I just think that having LeBron around to show them the habits that you need to develop to win at the highest level and the gravitas that he has to command their attention and their respect would be like nothing you could ever even imagine. And, you know,

1:51:25

Like, we're having this conversation, Chad, and it's still, I'm like, it's still shocked. Yes. Right? Like, like, that we're even having this conversation as a possibility. But it is. And so, you'd explore. But, yeah, like, I mean, the effect that he would have on them from a purely, this is what I do every day and this is how I treat every game approach would be invaluable for Ant, but. particularly for Lamello, who is coming from a place where he just never won at all. Last thing with about two minutes to go. I know when they played against each other, it was not a friendly relationship. And some of that was KG's unrelenting competitiveness, verbiage. I don't know if that's change in any way. We both know that. Mark, Lori, and Alex are paying Kevin a lot of money. We know last next year is going to be retirement. Hey, Kevin, here's another. $3 million. That's not a salary cap violation because it's your guy KG. But here's $3 million, KG, $3 million more. Give him the full KG soda tour and convince him this is a place that, because Kevin still loves this place. Maybe he doesn't say as much. He still loves him. Convince LeBron that it's not just coming in December 4th. Going to Mesa, Margo, bringing the fur coat, and going back to the four seasons. Mm-hmm. Oh, I mean, can you think, Chad, of anyone who would be more convincing in that role? If, I mean, you could, I can see KG sweating right now and yelling, you know, as they are driving the drop top around Lake Minantaka. Like, this is where. I'm telling you don't want L.A. You don't want Cleveland. You don't want this right here using all sorts of. Yeah, there's other words. You are admitting. You are omitting. A lot of words I heard. Yes. And absolutely closing the deal for them. And like that would. So then, you know, he should get a statue already. But yeah, it would be Jersey retirement and statute for KG if he was the one that closed the deal. for LeBron James to come to Minnesota. July 17th Target Center. The lights are out. KG. comes out with LeBron James. Let's go. Let's think about it for a couple days, at least for well. All right, my friend. Enjoy your day. We'll talk soon. Thanks, Jeff. John Krasinski, the best. Check them out on the Twitter machine and the athletic. Maybe to Russia can get it done. We'll put it on him also.

1:54:17

They get more dramatic by the moment. Hey, you don't get more dramatic than King Wallonius bringing you LeBron James is the goat. Do you have any other example of King Wallonius's work? I've got a lot of it. A lot? I can't pick my favorite album. It's too hard. It's a personal decision. He's not one of us, but he's really become one of us. It's Jason to Russia. You know what that means a lot? That's the nicest thing you've ever seen. Yeah. What are you doing today? What is your small step? To achieve a big goal, Jason, you know what you have to do? One step after another. Whoa. What step? Which step have you taken today? to convince LeBron James that from Akron to Minneapolis is the way you end the deal. What have you done? Well, as always. How about a regular guest on the Jason Rush show? LeBron could be on the show whatever he wants. Okay. I will guarantee that he'll never pay for a meal in this town. No. Mm-mm. That's it? Do you think he's paying for a lot of meals right now? Probably. They just take him for granted. In L.A. He's just another celebrity. Hey, you're not Denzel. You come here. You want to be the king. You want to be King James. You would be the king of this town. And everybody knows we have had arms wide open to sort of washed up people. Look at you. Look at me. We've been welcomed. Our peak years ago. I wanted to finish the show on a high. And now when I limped to my car, that's a tough way to finish. I didn't say it was inaccurate. Right. No, I'm sorry. I got it a little too real. Yeah. A little too real. Angie Craig. 430. Let's go. Check out Jason. The rest of the afternoon. Podcast us. This episode sponsored by Good Rangers.
