By the way, I got this from Roy in Youngstown. You know, Youngstown, hey, yo, you know, where I come from, 86 means eight miles out of town six feet under the ground. Yeah, boom. Of course, that's what it means. Now we shorten it. It means kill. But James Comey was charged and surrendered himself to authorities yesterday. Charles III and Queen Camilla's official state visit to the U.S. includes a few stops in Virginia later today. Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana congressional map. That's a victory for America. Hopefully you view it as. If you're playing shirts and skins a victory for the Republicans. And the president is rejecting an Iranian proposal to lift the blockade and the strait. Had a conversation with Vladimir Putin about Ukraine as well as the... enriched uranium in Iran, and commanders will brief the president on his military options moving forward. And I guess somewhere around 125 a barrel is where Brent crude is today. So we need things open and flowing in the strait. Meanwhile, last time for Jerome Powell as Fed chair, the Fed passes on any interest rate cuts. They remain unchanged. Rory O'Neill, our national correspondents here, Rory. Something I think everyone expected and the president not being happy is also something everyone expected. Good morning. Right. Good morning and welcome back. The chairman said that the whole board voted to keep interest rates where they are. Some, though, expressing concerns. Six months ago, they would have told you, hey, we're on track for two, maybe three rate cuts this year. But now since the events in the Middle East, there's now more of them are now saying, We'll be lucky to stay flat because we're seeing an increase in prices, or at least that inflation has been holding around 3.3%. And there are concerns that what we've seen with energy spikes, that could filter out through the economy and create more of that inflation. At the same time, the job picture ain't great. There's been almost zero job creation, but because of immigration policy changes, people not coming in, more people going out. The unemployment picture has remained relatively stable, but job creation is an issue. So normally you'd lower rates to create jobs. But they can't really do that because they might need to raise rates to offset these higher prices. So that's why they're sort of staying pat. Yeah, one thing that I didn't really...

get for the longest period of time. Ultimately, I understand in principle, But I don't think I support it and I wouldn't have led my second term with the tariffs. And then when I do support, which is I believe Iran was a predictable, clear and present danger that had to be dealt with. Everyone else of every party has talked about it. And only Donald Trump had the guts to do it. But somewhere between securing the border, upholding the law, tariffs and Iran, not good for the economy. Right. Period. Explainable and period. And the consumer has been incredible through all this, right? Continually spending, not changing our habits, and we're really keeping things afloat. But as you said, this was Chairman Jerome Powell's last go as chairman, but he will continue to serve as a Fed governor, even when his replacement is sworn in in just a couple of weeks. So Jerome Powell not entirely going away. He says he wants to make sure that whole criminal probe thing is shut down once and for all. Then he'll think about leaving. Spite. Spite is a two-way street, Rory. Never forget that. I like the way he worded. He said, you know, for a period to be determined, that means... I'm going to stay around just to aggravate Orange until he leaves office. That's exactly what's coming, I think. He made me laugh out loud, though, with the joke about a lower profile. When the reporter asked what's a lower profile going to look like, and he started squatting down lower and lower behind the boat. You just didn't expect the chairman of the Fed, especially him to try to pull the funny, which was really what a bit of me left. You know, it's funny. I have an audience, of course, it's very protective of the president. And I understand why, because he's attacked so often from so many different angles unfairly. I'm going to demonstrate that sounds of the day with an old clip of Johnny Carson at the Oscars. But, you know, it is a two-way street. They both are guilty in this particular spat. And we probably at some point will be better off when one's not chair and maybe even ultimately. What's frustrating is that nobody has really, you know, taken this opportunity to really understand what the Fed's job is. why it has the authority it does and why it must, if you're going to continue giving it authority, it cannot be partisanly controlled. So there's enough guilt to go on both sides and enough spite to go on both sides. But for the last one for Jerome Powell.

The conditions didn't warrant a rate quote cut, let alone you knew he wasn't going to do it out of spite anyway. So not a big shocking story there. Roy's going to be back in the third hour. The war with Iran has already cost $25 billion. Pete Hegseth testified on Capitol Life. Some of that in sounds a day. Rory has some of that in his final say coming up later in the third hour. But I did conflate. I think it was Jerry Jeff Walker that, you know, Ken Peacock and Brett Harris, all of them were Cuckoo Fran and Alio. And David Allen Coe. I know they love David Allen Coe, but I think it was. If I'm not wrong, you can text me, Keith. But I think Jerry Jeff Walker was even bigger, I think. But it is a big death. And the two together are very big deaths. But yeah, David Allen Coe passed away here in Nashville. I think he was 86. Was he 86 or 83? I'll check that. I didn't know. I learned just as you read that story. 86. 86. On the day where 86 and the president was that I'm sorry. Wow. That was that. Then I got this. Roger just sent me a picture. I love polls like this because I think these politicians, remember I've told the story of my one and a half pound miniature Mexican chihuahua and how she ruled my house growing up over a 65 pound athletic Labrador retriever. And I would just look at the lab Cleo and say, what are you nuts? Why are you letting Charo treat you this way? And the only reason why Charo ruled the house was because Cleo allowed it. The only way these politicians do what they do that disgusts you so badly is because you allow it. And the minute the American people wake up and take action. Now, right now, the little wall then disconnect is you get everything they're doing.

It's just, and you think you get it clearly collectively, you don't get it individually. I could use an example, but then I'll hear from her office. But I can tell you, I come from a place where we have a senator that everybody here in Tennessee just loves. And they never connect the dots. That all while she was in Congress and all while she was in the Senate, all this stuff was happening. That mentality of, oh, collectively, they're all awful. They all should be fired. Oh, but I like her. Oh, but I like him. But sooner or later, whether we live like it, act like it, or even if we give up our duties. We still are a government of the people. And all it takes is for the people to recognize things and act accordingly. Take gerrymandering. How much hot air is there on radio and television over gerrymandering? How hard is it? Redistricting, constitutional. People move, maps change. Gerrymandering is the art of partisan cheating. Your founding fathers weren't interested in a two-party system that you've allowed for far too long, let alone cheating to preserve it. Voters are determined leaders, not leaders determining who gets to stay by how we draw the map. This should be a clear, easy, 100%. But with media dead and in the back pocket of one of the parties...

If you went by quantity and quality of coverage, they'd be getting away with gerrymandering. But when you talk to the people, as Rasmussen did, not at all. The practice of partisan gerrymandering worries voters. This is in the wake of the big Virginia referendum vote that I believe ultimately the state Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court will have the final say on. And things didn't start off well with the Louisiana congressional map. 88% think of the things that 88% of America can agree on. You're in a pretty small group. Nearly just short of 9 out of 10, likely U.S. voters believe it's a serious problem. When states deliberately draw congressional districts to favor one party over the other, and that includes 65% who say the problem is very serious. And that's an increase of 4% on the very serious side. Gerrymandering and the parties think they're getting away with it. And we win some for the blue team. We win one for the red team. Meanwhile, all voters collectively want to pick their leaders, not the parties. And this ought to not sit well with Democrats either. Who now four presidential cycles haven't even to pick their nominee. And I think you got another shenanigan coming in two years. Never underestimate. Even in a sea of leftist propaganda, never underestimate the American people's ability to get things. They get it. When they act, well, that can be a different story. Right now, I sure hope our Jewish friends don't feel forgotten. There's a Jewish woman named Esther I love to talk about. In her home in Israel, Esther is living through days and nights of fear. She hears sirens sounding. You don't, but imagine if you did. And you knew they're blaring because there's a missile on the way. Even hear the rockets screaming through the sky. We had a lot of rulings yesterday. Supreme Court struck down Louisiana congressional maps in a case with national implications. Meanwhile, Texas's new congressional map can be used, according to the Supreme Court ruling, and Virginia Supreme Court will be weighing in on the legalities of the Democratic redistricting plan after voters approved it in a vote. The other big story commanders are going to brief the president on new Iranian military options. We have Brent crude at $125 a barrel. Again, you want to see this anywhere between 80 and 90 a barrel. So obviously, focus on the Strait of Hormuz begins to be a priority once again. Jerome Powell in his final. ruling as Fed chair. They hold the rate steady. Everyone expected the rate to hold steady, not get a cut. And we also expected the president to not be happy with that. And the president has rejected the Iranian proposal to lift the U.S. blockade to open the Strait of Hormuz. Also, all four astronauts from Artemis, too, were in the Oval Office. Our John Decker was in the Oval Office with the president and the crew, and he'll report in just a few minutes. from the White House. In sports, the Penguins got eliminated by the Flyers. So for all my listeners in Pittsburgh, one-nothing in overtime ends the season for the Penguins. Philadelphia advances. In other sports, of note, Lightning lost 3-2 to the Canadians. A very, very fast young physical hockey club, and the Lightning have their hands full. They did great, winning in overtime, evening up the series, but now losing Montreal leads three games to two. In NBA playoffs, Piston Stay Alive, 116, 109 over the Magic, but Orlando still leads the series three games to two. Cavs won by five over the Raptors. Cleveland can close out that series in their next game. They lead three games to two over Toronto and the Lakers lost to the Rockets, 9993. L.A. now with a three-two lead in that series. Nobody expected them to. We knew the president was going to hate this. He really hates the news that Jerome Powell's not going to be leaving. Oh, he'll be leaving his chair of the Fed, but he's not leaving the board. spite is a two-way street. And, you know, we told the long story of 1968 when the astronauts orbited the moon and then read from the book of Genesis, the creation story. And the fascination that for the very few that get the opportunity to leave this earth and go to the moon in search of the moon or whatever's after that, what they always often find is Earth. There's something about that view of earth that changes them forever. And it was no different with Artemis 2. And the president was honoring them in the Oval Office. And our White House correspondent, John Decker, was there. What a thrill. You got to be in the room with Victor and the gang. Yeah, pretty cool. You know, I've met so many astronauts over the years and interviewed so many astronauts over the years. It's always a thrill for me. And I told them as much when I was in the Oval Office yesterday. I mentioned Gene Cernan. I interviewed Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon. And I asked the president just to start off his Q&A with reporters. if the plan is to have an American astronaut back on the moon before his term ends. And he said there could be two missions to the moon before his term ends. So we'll have to wait and see what happens there. But real heroes, obviously, and hopefully that happens relatively soon. You know, the Chinese are trying to put a man on the moon as well. So hopefully we beat that, Michael. Well, man on the moon and then eventually a buckies, as we're going to be used. as a rest stop on our way to Mars is the long-term vision. Yeah, I don't know how to rank them. Jim Lovell was always a favorite of mine, as was... I interviewed him. I interviewed Jim Lovell. You have a real thrill for me. Frank Borman may have been the genius of them all. I would have loved to have met and interviewed Frank Borman and Jim Lovell. I loved Ken Mattingly. A lot of great astronauts, yeah, but I'm going to put Victor...

up high on that list. This whole crew was magic. It couldn't have picked a better four. And I think the president did what all of us have struggled to do was to put into perspective just how much it united. changed our focus and got us viewing Earth differently through their eyes again like in 1968. Lot to relive there. All right. Jerome's not leaving anytime soon. He says for a time to be termed later, John, is spite a two-way street? I suspect that time will be when the president leaves office, he'll leave the board. Yeah, I heard you say that. Look, he's going to remain on the board. He's going to remain a thorn in the president's side. People seem to think that the Fed chairman, you know, is all being and all knowing. And, you know, they're an important position, very powerful. But there are only one vote. There are one vote out of 12. And we saw the vote yesterday to keep interest rates unchanged. It was 11 to 1. So overwhelming support to leave interest rates unchanged. And we'll see if Kevin Warsh, the new Fed chairman who will take his spot as chairman of the Fed in mid-May, can persuade the other Fed governors to go along with him to lower interest rates. I asked the president about that yesterday. And he's said before he thinks that he can be very persuasive to these other Fed governors. Well, time will tell. Right. Brent crude is at $125 a barrel. We shoot straight with people. We don't sit and talk and panic when, and it can go back to $85, 90, you know, with an action. So, but obviously nothing has changed. The security of the Strait of Hormuz is priority number one. so that we don't have a regional and or global crisis. We're clearly at a point where an action is to be taken. I would imagine that's part of what commanders will be briefing the president on military options, right? Well, that's exactly right. You know, the president has said that he will have this blockade of Iranian ports in place for an extended indefinite period of time. You know, obviously trying to force the hand of Iran to not only come to the negotiating table, but to capitulate, to agree to what the U.S. wants. as it relates to its nuclear weapons program. But the fact that there are no talks that are scheduled, the fact that the blockade remains in place is what you see happening in oil markets today, a four-year high. They haven't been this high since 2022 after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Yeah, and with it, you also see the market start to dip. That's usually when the president takes an action to correct it all. And again, that goes back to my long theory of the president's having to fight a two-fight war, you know, two flank and two front war, one there with Iran and its proxies and one here with an American people divided and focused more on the economy. What's coming up today on the White House briefing room with yourself, John Decker. Well, we're talking about, you know, that interaction that I had yesterday with the president. I had three opportunity to ask the president three separate questions on three different issues, including whether or not the King's speech to Congress just the other day, which was so well received, Michael, in which he spoke strongly and forcefully about the need to have a strong NATO alliance and also to support Ukraine, whether that has changed the... the president's thinking on either of those issues. And the president gave me a very lengthy answer when I asked him that particular question. So we'll be talking primarily about that. And also leading off with what you just mentioned, oil prices at this four year high gas prices at a four year high as well. And what that means as it relates to the midterm elections for Republicans. It's very concise. Usually what is it? You're roughly 15, 20 minutes at the most. Not even. Not even. Not even. Yeah, sometimes even shorter. Get straight to it. He calls great balls and strikes. So you're not getting a shirts and skins view of what's happening. All right. Top five stories of the day at 43 minutes after the hour. Wednesday Supreme Court ruling striking down parts of the Voting Rights Act, and that's what the big debate is over. Could have widespread voting implications. Even before the midterms. The Supreme Court has struck down a Louisiana congressional map. The map included a second majority black congressional district. The case was centered around how much race can be considered when lawmakers redraw districts. Black voters had sued the state in 2022 after the state legislature created a new congressional map after the 2020 census that included just one black majority district. Black residents make up about a third of Louisiana's population. I'm Mark Nefield. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth says $400 million in aid to Ukraine has been released. Jim Rup reports. It comes after accusations the funding was stalled. Hakesh tells a House Armed Services Committee budget hearing the funding was released earlier this week. The aid was allocated as part of the National Defense Authorization Act passed last year. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell has said the funding was delayed and has criticized Pentagon officials. Meanwhile, President Trump says he spoke to a Russian president. Vladimir Putin and he says the Russian leader could soon announce what Trump calls a little ceasefire. I'm Jim Rup. Kevin Warsh, President Trump's pick to be the next Fed Reserve chair, cleared his first Senate hurdle, not surprisingly, on strict party line vote.

Kevin Warsh's confirmation came down to one man, Republican Senator Thom Tillis, who was holding up the process until the Department of Justice last week agreed to drop its criminal probe into Jerome Powell's handling of renovations at Fed headquarters. Thom Tillis said he was confident the investigation, which many, including him, considered bogus, was over. No Democrat voted in favor of advancing Kevin Warsh's nomination to the full Senate. Some have argued that he has shifted his position on inflation to better align with Trump and will be the president's puppet undermining the independence of the U.S. Central Bank. Something Kevin Warsh denies. Tony Waterman, Washington. Should a former FBI director be arrested and charged? For posting on social media, the message 86-47, which implies clearly kill the 47th president. Just don't give me the defense, oh, I didn't know what 86 meant. As Roy in Youngstown explained, that means take them eight miles outside of town, kill him and bury him six feet. Shorten to kill. If you're in the restaurant business, it means to kill an order. Pretty universally known. Now, you may not. Maybe he never worked in the restaurant business. Maybe he didn't watch a lot of gangster movies. I don't know.
