Across America, advanced technology is working behind the scenes, strengthening our nation. It protects our warfighters, advances life-saving healthcare, combat cyber threats, and defends the critical infrastructure that keeps our country moving. At GDIT, we power the systems that help America operate, connect, and stay secure. Every hour, every mission, every day. GDIT, behind America's invisible advantage. This is Gary and Shannon, and you're listening to KFI AM 640, the Gary and Shannon Show on demand on the IHeart Radio app. We're going to get into a couple things at the bottom of the hour. We're going to be talking about the newest place for people to go dating in L.A. You're off the market right now. Yeah, I am. But I live very close to this place. Do you notice it? Yes, because it's where my gym is, which I know that based on looking at me, you probably know that I don't go very much. But I do. One of those old-fashioned gyms where they just put the thing around your waist and it goes. Yeah.

Out west, the boys in blue, they're getting in shape by getting shaken. You heard Ronner mention this in the news there at the top of the hour. The Department of Homeland Security shutdown is apparently over. The House approved a bill to fund all of the Department of Homeland Security ending this 76 day. partial shutdown. They actually didn't do anything. They didn't change anything. They did not solve any of their policy disagreements that they were fighting about in the first place. I wonder if those people who switched their votes and finally decided to reopen this thing, if they were concerned about the look of, you know, an attempted assassination. and whether or not that had any sort of an impact on their votes. A couple of quick talkbacks to get to, including... Hey, good morning, gentlemen. Hi. Gary, quick question. Who makes the trumpet noises when you guys play the breaking new sound bite? Because that's hilarious. This just in. A lot of people want to know what happened. That just happened. Do, do, do, do, do. That is the Philharmonic Orchestra of Philadelphia? Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Oh, the Mormon Tabernaker Choir. You can tell. It's a little higher pitch. That's Shannon. Shannon does that. She did that at one point because she was being funny about we're going to do some breaking news story. And she did a do, do, do, do, do. That is, it's a very young boyish. There is a eunuch level. Have you met her? That's a good point. She does at times give 12 year old. In the same way that Matt gives. Matt Toffler, our wonderful producer, gives like 80s, early 90s, New Jersey mom. You know? It's more of a stretch for him, but it is. It's true. No, I think it. And he admits it. He knows it. He knows it. I'll take the East Coast vibes. There you got to see the positive. He's just like always like he's got the orange slices in the minivan ready to go. Just in case. I mean, they're there. They've been there for a week, but they are ready to go. On another episode of Two Stupid Dogs. Yes, it was a show a long time ago, but now it's in form of human. Two Stupid Dogs appearing on KFI. Listen, you guys need to tell you as Todi Pratt that LA consists of everything east of Dan Crenshaw, east of the 110. Bet you that boy has never been out that way except coming through from Orange County. Explain to him what the city is about since you guys claim to be part of the city and know all of it. Explain to him. Let him explain to those. He's still going. I am not a part of the city of L.A. I do not have a dog in that fight because I can't vote. I don't live in the city of L.A. So, well, I do because I'm a real person and I'm on every man. Then you know that the actual portion of the city of L.A. that is east of the 110 is tiny compared to the west side, downtown, and most importantly, the San Fernando Valley. Yeah. I mean, that. I'm a valley guy myself. And I like to think of it as a.

5:40

You know, having worked in news and been all around it, it is interesting how, yes, it does not, not every place can get the kind of representation that every place deserves to. Right. But if you want to talk about under-representation, the San Fernando Valley, ain't nobody care about us up here. I'm sure that that's, what else is going on? Time for What's Happening? We'll talk about this in a little bit when we get into Swamp Watch, but one of the headlines out of the Iran War is that the commander of Centcom, Admiral Brad Cooper, not that Brad Cooper, a different Brad Cooper, will be briefing the president and senior national security team at the White House today, updating them on not just the blockade of Iranian ports, but potential short, quick. target package that we could somehow slap some sense into the Iranian leadership and bring them back to the negotiating table. Do you think it's like when you go to the gas station? Oh man, I just lost it. I was so on one. No, it's when you go to the car wash and they got the board out and they're like, here's the deluxe, the works, the celebrity, the A-lister. I think it is. And then he just, you know, you pick. Pick one. And they say, okay, but for $15 more, we can do the to the ICBM crews. I don't think there's a lot of upselling. No, you think he's. I mean, the. I think he's pretty set on which package he's going to go for. They say that you need to wax. The only difference between this and the car wash thing is if you're in line at the car wash, you're going to get a car wash. If you are in line for another military strike against Iran, there is a no option. We're not going to do anything today. What do we know, though? We're just two stupid dogs. Was that actually a show? Yeah, it was a cartoon when I was a kid. Did you not see two stupid dogs? It foretold the prophecy of us. Sitting here at KFI. The Old Testament, I didn't realize. The new court filing came out of the DA's office regarding the details, but the prosecutors believe about singer David and the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. An awful, awful read. It talks about how he stabbed her because she was apparently going to go public with their relationship. She was upset with him having relationships with other women that he stabbed her. And then basically over the course of days, dismembered the body, but never actually disposed of it. Just put it in the car. Ordered items to help. on postmates, on Amazon, ordered a burn cage, continued to tour and promote his music while she allegedly decomposed in the frunk of his Tesla, which at one point was moved outside the house. We don't know by whom, but at what time until it was then tagged, impounded, and then discovered.

The suspect in the shooting at the White House Correspondents Association dinner is going to stay in jail. A hearing before a U.S. magistrate judge. A lawyer said that the guy will not contest the government's effort to keep him in federal custody. I've seen now a much clearer video. I don't know if you've seen this. Surveillance video. that we originally saw from the night of was very grainy, black and white, shows him running through a magnetometer while another one is being disassembled right next to it. He's holding a shotgun and one agent actually peels off. I think it's five shots that they can tell based on the video. I've seen the clear version of that now. And it's amazing that he did what he did running in with a shotgun, but that nobody... got off shots except the one Secret Service agent who was basically facing him as he ran through that magnetometer. And that the chaos was relatively short-lived as well. I'm surprised. I guess, you know, you probably don't need all the magnetometers after everybody's in there. But it's amazing that they would start disassembling the security guard, the checkpoint before the event was over. It kind of seems like you still sort of need. I mean, they supposedly were starting to serve. I think the salad court, whatever. The barata was on the table. But at that point, yeah, I would imagine there'd still be some stragglers that were coming through. Maybe you don't need all of the magnetometers. I don't know. By the way, former FBI director James Comey, of course, initial court appearance yesterday on Wednesday. This is the second indictment in as many of, I believe, a year. Donald Trump, president, doubled down on his claim that the term 86, which was seen in a Twitter post. The federal indictment over the social media post of seashells arranged to read 8647 what was posted after a beachwalk that the former FBI director shared. The president says 86 is a mob term for kill him. They say 86.87 means kill President Trump. He wrote that on social media Wednesday night. Calling James Comey a dirty cop who knows this full well. I think even if you're a... They've worked in a restaurant. You know, the 86 means we're done with that. Yeah, this is one of those cases that I think they're going to have a hard time actually getting anything out of. But when we come back, Swamp Watch, a little bit more about what's going on in D.C. And then the new dating app, it's more of a place than an app. But bring your buckets. No, bring your buckets of documents. Money. That's what I'm. There it is. You landed that plane. We'll continue. A little crosswind. A chance of a thousand bucks is coming up. You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM 640. Got plans this summer? A brewery crawl? Another lake trip? The same festival you've been to three times already? Do something different. This August, Virginia International Raceway becomes the ultimate summer destination. Monks and Merrill will give you a shot at $1,000 coming up as well. It's time for Swamp Watch. I'm a politician, which means I'm a cheat and a liar. And when I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their lollipops. Here we go. The real problem is that our leaders are dumb. The other side never quits. What are you doing in my swamp? I'm not going anywhere. That is how you drain the swamp. I can imagine what can be and be unburdened by what has been. Americans have always been going. Act presidential. But they're not stupid. A political wonder is when a politician actually tells the truth. Whether people voted for you or not. Swamp Watch. They're all counting on them. All right. So out of D.C. today, 76 days since the Department of Homeland Security funding lapsed, they did pass a bill today in the House that would restore the flow of federal dollars to most of the DHS agencies.

14:53

They really didn't do much, though, to solve any of the disagreements that actually led to the shutdown in the first place. ICE and the border enforcement still will be unfunded, but the bipartisan Senate DHS bill funds the TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, Secret Service, and other critical agencies, as you said last hour or last segment, doesn't feel like we can maybe keep asking. the Secret Service to go without funding in the wake of an attempt of assassination. So now Congressional Republicans are going to turn their attention. They're going to get to the tens of billions of dollars that they want for Border Patrol and for ICE in a party line package is expected. So that process is going to be coming up. They'll adopt a framework. They say that unlocks special budget power to get around the filibuster in the Senate. They call it the skinny bill. Like it's a margarita that you shouldn't feel bad about ordering. Right. And being bad. You get enough of those. You get enough of those. You still wake up with a pretty bad hangover. The oil prices hit a wartime high today. Brent Crude, not a guy who played for the Phillies in the late 70s. What a dog, that guy is. Brent Crude, the international benchmark, was up over $126 a barrel overnight. We did see it come down quite a bit. As of right now, let me double check. For those of you paid attention, it's just under $114 a barrel. Now, you buy by the barrel. I prefer it that way. I mean, I like to make my own blend. Yeah, of course. So if I go by the barrel, it just makes it easier. Well, the summer blend is coming out now. And obviously, if you buy in bulk, it's for the best. And if you use my promo code, Andy 10, you can get 10% off your first purchase of Brent crude oil from the Saudis, from OPA. It works every, any place you like to buy Brent crude, you can have it. Do you sell them by the case? Is it? We do deals for larger, but just email me. About anything more than six. I need, I have to. We prefer you email. Despite gas prices having been astronomical in the last couple of several weeks and months, the economy grew at a solid pace for the first three months of 2026, rebounding from what we saw at the end of last year, which was kind of sluggish. The economy grew in the first quarter at an annualized rate of 2%. That is an acceleration of a half a percent in the fourth quarter from last year. This actually covers... mostly before the outset of the war with Iran, which of course was February 28th. And that's when we started to see gas prices go up significantly. There are a couple of weeks in there. But for the most part, this does not cover that. So we'll see if our economy can actually power through all. Well, and it's important the Commerce Department says this is a lot to do with the rising government spending. And consumer spending has slowed from the previous quarter, which provides a cautionary note for the nation's outlook. Yeah. And by the way, it doesn't matter who's in power, the government is going to spend money.

17:54

money. We told you earlier this week, the Supreme Court ruled that one of Louisiana's majority minority districts was illegally racially gerrymandered. So the governor has come out and suspended their primary elections. They were supposed to take place on May 16th. They have suspended... The governor is now telling the legislature to redraw the maps in order to be legally compliant with the Supreme Court order. So they haven't said... I don't think Jeff Landry, the governor has said exactly when they're going to reschedule them too, but they will not be May 16th. How about this for a sentence from Samuel Alito Samuel Alito? In the majority opinion, he wrote, the state's attempt to satisfy the middle district's ruling, although understandable, was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. Saying something is understandable, but racist is a wild, wild thing to read. He's got to be careful. Yeah. Be careful. I get it. But it is racist, but I get it. When we come back, the new place for you to find your hot new date. We'll talk about it up next. You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM 640. We were talking earlier about the loss of the guy who designed the Masters of the Universe toys. Yeah. He Man, Skeletor. We also lost a big songwriter from my childhood. David Allen Co. How do you spell release? I get D.R. U.N. K. How do you spell relief? I get DRUNK. David Allen Coe died at the age of 86. You know, pretty good amount of time to be alive for somebody who spells relief, DRUNK. I love it when a very haughty publication tries to write an obituary for a guy like David Allen Coe. I think this is New York Times. David Allen Co. The country singer whose outlandish exploits, prison tales, and obscenity-laden performances earned him notoriety as a transgressive exponent of the outlaw country movement of the 70s days. You know written by some cardigan wearing upper west side dude with gray curly hair and big round glasses. I don't remember hearing this on NPR. I just get the RUNK. You know, he got in trouble. Oh, you have to be. He was an outlaw. I don't know if you heard me say that part of it. No, I did. But I like tax trouble, which is like not super outlawy. I mean, it is. But it's not like six gun in my holster coming into town. He didn't hold up a stage coach, is what you're saying. No, the man just, you know, filed a W-2 instead of a W-4.

20:54

Or he signed a W-2. I don't know. I shouldn't talk. They're on to me. Dating singles in L.A., wherever you are, now fed up with the dating apps, have apparently been scouring the aisles of Arawan. I am ashamed to say. People used to say that word, and I had no idea what it was. They would talk about Aeroon like it was a land from... Lord of the Rings or something. Yes, it does sound like... And I didn't know. I honestly did not know that it was a store, that it was a grocery store. Right. Arawan, Aragon, like it's the... I understand the near rhyme and the thought there. So what I'm not surprised by is that the club scene is over. The kids have to go somewhere. Right. Of course they're going to go to the Arawan. And this is funny that someone finally... I've talked about this on TV a lot. That it's the place to meet people. It's the new club. People dress up. They go to the dumb grocery store. When you come into town, if you're on a vacation, that's where you're going to go because that's a tourist destination. Get your $25 Haley Bieber smoothie. They don't call it that anymore, but we all know what it is. 25 bucks is what it is. That's right. And that's like not even that much. But, you know, who doesn't want to go stare at their phones in line with a bunch of other Gen Ziers waiting for a colostrum smoothie? Nobody doesn't want that. Can you imagine the meat cute, the story? How did you guys meet? Hey mom and dad. Hey, grandma and grandpa. How did you guys meet? Well, we were waiting for a coconut cloud smoothie. I am, we say this every time. When Shannon and I talk about these dating apps and the things that go wrong or the things that even go right. It's such a relief that I don't have to do that right now. I mean, when my wife leaves me, I will have to get back into the game at some point. Or I'll just hang it up. Like, hey, I had a good run. I'm glad you're at least being... proactive about it. The thing with this, too, is that I think you probably would have done fine because this isn't for you. Do you know what I'm saying? Shannon says that all the time. It's not, it's just not for you. It's not for me either. I'm not in this world anymore. But if it was my scene in the way that we used to go to 21 or Lexington Social House or do all these, Club L. L bar is what it was called, club lingerie, not a strip club in Hollywood, an old bar, loaded the rock and roll bar in Hollywood. We used to, this was part of the peacocking. And now this is what they do now. I will say something that the article does not cover. They're missing majorly. It is the place to go. Eight hours post nose job. There are... A what? Yes. There are ladies in their aloe. Still bandaged? Still bandaged bruises under the eyes, walking around with their protein shakers, like looking hot with their nose, their drip tray under the nostrils, the little stent on there. I see it every time I go. Drip tray. Oh. That's so great. Better to let it bleed. Oh.

24:04

I worry for the future, though, because it is sort of like, and they don't really talk to each other either. They just sort of sit there and stare at each other. I mean, the word you used, I thought was perfect, which was peacocking. It's not unusual to use that word in a sense where you're there for the show. You're there for the show. Does an actual conversation take place between two people who see each other at Erwan? And like you said, go on to make babies and have babies have babies and they become grandparents someday. And I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it is so much more about you just being seen. Being seen in the right place. And if there ever is carnal behavior that comes out of this, it's not because somebody walked up to somebody else in front of the rotisserie case and said, hey. Do they have one there? I mean, whatever. I don't know. They don't let me in. I'm banned, actually. But they, but they, it's because I say, okay, so I'm sure the two hot people are there. If they're interesting to each other, one gets on Instagram, finds them, sends him a DM and said like, oh, what up? I saw you at the Arawan today. Right. And there's no, there's no initiation. There's no pickup line. And maybe that's for the best, honestly. I don't know. Well, it would be the best because it would cut down on the riffraff. Is that it? You mean, like, you got to, there's another level of engagement where you've actually got to type something out as opposed to walking up to somebody and saying some cheesy thing like, hey. Yeah, like, remember this? Herb-crusted. Can you imagine if the pickup artists, like from the early 2000s, remember those guys? Swingers? Yeah, no, they were like, I mean the movie. Yeah, no, these were like guys who like had a reality show in Vegas and they would teach. They sold books and mystery was his name, I think. He would go and they, you know, they would teach men how to hit on women in places. I think this is at least better than that because it's like. I don't have to witness it and be embarrassed by it secondhand. I'm not also watching your DMs, bro. You do whatever you want over there. Every year, sometimes twice a year, there appears to be a new product that takes the world by storm. Everybody's got to have it. Dating back from Cabbage Patch kids in the early 80s. Think Beanie Babies in the 90s. Oh. LeBooos recently. There's a new thing. It's a needo. a stress relief toy that has become sort of in that vein of got to have it kind of product. But the people who make it are being very careful about it. We'll talk about what they're doing and why they're doing it this way when we come back. You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM 640. Got plans this summer? A brewery crawl? Another lake trip? The same festival you've been to three times already? Do something different. This August, Virginia International Raceway becomes the ultimate summer destination. Watch Inns' Michelin GT Challenge at VIR. Thanks for that, by the way. You're welcome. So I just want to be clear that even though the clothes that I'm wearing are Shannon's, the underwear is my own. Oh. Okay. Well, that's not what it looks like from the behind. Well, no, they're mine. I bought them. This is my normal... This is my normal, my normal going out where? It doesn't get caught, like it doesn't slice you in half because it feels like, I mean, I didn't mean to, I wasn't looking. Let me try you put it this way. I wasn't looking. Wow, guy. But when you were leaning over and putting your computer in the bag, I noticed that. The early 2000s are back. Is that what you're trying to say? You tried to say you noticed that my tramp stamp was riding up and you saw. I couldn't tell if there was a tramp stamp or a patch of hair.

29:51

So you might want to get that work done. I have to shave around that. Yeah, I didn't let it see. Is it start? Yeah, I got to get back there and get some work on it. You just reached back and felt it. Do you know what a knee dough is? I don't. But I can guess by context clues. I had not heard of this before we started talking about it. You know those old, just think of the old squishy, like it almost looked like a clown and you would squish it in your hand and then the eyes and everything would pop out and then you'd let go and it would go back in. Like a stress reliever. A stress reliever. Yeah. There is a stress relief toy called a needo, N-E. It's become this social media phenomenon. It has sold out a six-month inventory in just a few weeks. And they make a couple of different versions of it. I guess the new big one is the Nido Ice Cube. And it comes to different sizes, different colors, et cetera. And it's just that jellied material. Right. And it's probably very satisfying. It feels kind of funny in your hands. Stimming out. That's what the kids say. You can stimmed out on this kind of stuff. Yes, fidget spinner version of exactly that kind of a product. You'd find it in this, or I should say in a couple of months, so find it in the same box at Target, that $1 thing right when you walk in? 100%. Yeah, there's probably a bunch of knockoff versions of it as well in the way. Well, that's the thing. Schilling. is a Massachusetts-based maker of this. And they made a bunch of these things and expected them to last for about, they expected the supply to last for six months. They've only made, they've only made it through the first six weeks because they're so popular and people have been buying them up. Wow. They are gone. I mean, cubes, they make, like I said, the ice cubes, gum drops, strawberries. Yeah, there's a groovy pack. It kind of has a little 70s-esque vibe to it from a packaging perspective. They make squishy cats. There's pigs. There's bears. There's big what looked like macaroni noodles. And then just the Nido original sensory ball. It reminds me. of Happy Funball from the Saturday Night Live commercial. If you haven't seen that, it was about how Happy Funball is the greatest invention ever for toys. And then the disclaimer at the end, because it was going to cause all of these different problems. The side effects. Yeah, yeah. So they said. That was from 1991. Happy Funball? You're dropping. Yeah. They did have a heyday. They did have a heyday. I know that was such a good. Late 80s, early 90s, SNL is unmatched. Schilling is now an unintentional power player, they say, and what is referred to as the scarcity economy. Because once you start realizing, oh, there's not that many of them, they must be great. Right. And once, you know, kids are the thing that make the fad happen. And this is we've seen throughout history as well. Going back to, as you said, the Beanie Babies.

Back to Cabbage Patch Kids, Tickle Me Elmo, the more recent, one of those stupid things called Labuboos. However, I think that the company deciding to not make that many of them to keep them scarce is an interesting idea because kids, especially these days, are quicker to move on than they've ever been. So I, if they're listening, here's some recommendation for you. I want you to think about the future. I want you to think about guy named Ty Warner, Ty's Beanie Babies. The man obviously didn't stop. He made him until we were not interested in them at all. And then he made more. But here's the thing. Does it matter? No. Because if you head up the 101 freeway to Santa Barbara, to Montecito, the most beautiful place maybe in the country, he owns the entire town, the four seasons, private clubs. the San Ysidro Ranch, hotels, all of it, a mansion overlooking the water. Like, Buku Bucks. I think that if you got, if you got heat, you cash in. When you can. Do it when you can. Because you're right, in a month and a half, Nido will be. Nowhere to need be found at the end of the show. Paul Weingard is the chief executive of the company shilling that makes these needos. And they said that they've sold more than 100 million of them from their launch almost nine years ago now through last fall. And he says demand is only getting bigger. Demand has grown 10 times since then. In fact, some retailers have told him. Nido has been the number one search term on their websites in recent weeks. Now, I found them on a place called Best Toys, but all of the major retailers have them on their websites, the Walmarts, the targets, et cetera. You're going to find them all over the place. But again, you're going to find them advertised, but you may not necessarily see them in stock. I'm looking on one specific website that I won't name that's owned by Jeff Bezos. And they just, instead of being able to buy them, there's buying options, but it just says high price. That's it. I've never seen that before. Really? It just says high price and you click on it and it opens up an AI chat window and I'm slamming the laptop because I don't want to be on AI chat window. And they already took your picture. That's right. Here's an interesting thing. You know your product is good if your, if that product's name becomes interchangeable with the actual product. Xerox, Kleenex. Yes, exactly. The Michelle Goad is the chief brand officer for the Clare's stores. And she says she predicts that Nido will become that noun for the stuff that exists in that category. The squishy gooey. Squishy gooey, like you said, fidget spinner, sensory device maybe, that she thinks that the Nito will actually be that word. Okay. So, neat. Well, I don't know about that. Do you think that a couple years ago when I was working in toys? I was in the space.

I was in the toy space. We're working for Hot Wheels. One of the things that we were very, I think that the team was interested in. I don't know if we made it. I don't know if Mattel made it. But it was a dog that you would squeeze like a little squishy dog. Yeah. And it would poop. And it was the biggest hit for kids. I don't remember one that you'd squeeze. I do remember when you'd like flick the tail and a brown jelly bean would come out. Well, we're of different eras. Ah. But this was... So yours was more high-tech, is that what you're saying? Or just grosser. I think that they get grosser and weirder. Oh, yeah. A race to the bottom. Just the kids are not playing with cars anymore, just like squishy toys that they can... They're all three-year-olds so stressed out. They need these... Listen, I want my three-year-old to be relaxed. I want them to not have to deal with the main troubles that exist in adult life. I agree. Thanks for coming in, man. We appreciate it. Thank you for having me. We'll hear you on Sunday, of course, and then watch every morning on K. You're right there every time. It's neat.
