You're listening to KFI, AM 640, the Bill Handles Show On Demand, on the IHeart Radio app. The other thing I do have to reduce the cost of toilet paper, I put in those bidets, also known as ass blasters, in my toilets. We had several listeners who said that they too have installed bidetes. No, no, they're called ass blasters. It's right there, the name literally on the take. That's the brand name. Yes, the ass blaster. And now, Handel on the news. Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel. It's Friday, T-G-I-Q-B-L-Z-T. You bet you, very, Friday's always fun. Friday, of course, we end the week, the 8.30, the 8 o'clock hour with Foodie Friday and ask, handle anything. And if you don't happen to listen during that time, go to the IHeart Radio app and the podcast, because that is so much fun. Okay, hello to one and all. Will, good morning to you. Good morning, Bill. Good morning. We start with you. Yeah, exactly. They're no longer around, are they, Neil, TGIFs? Yeah, I think they have a couple of Fridays still in existence. I think there's still one in West Covina maybe. That's also weird where they have one or two. restaurants left out of hundreds that were out there. It's bizarre. And they were great. They're just huge. These places were huge. I love TGIF. I mean, they're just, it's fun. You talk about bar food effectively. It's the best. They had these massive salads. like with fried chicken on them and it's like it's so unsalady it's great yeah and whatever happened to um claim jumper god i love that restaurant oh yeah we used to have one across street from the station right is it gone I haven't seen one in years. Oh, lame jokes. You would order, you would order it would be a plate, and it feeds eight people if you order one plate. And the chocolate cake stood, what, two feet tall? Yeah, you used to be able to get that in the frozen food section, too. It was just, it was wonderful. So anyway, and we have a story about Cracker Barrel coming up a little bit later on.

4:30

And how many of those are falling apart? And it's kind of an interesting. It's kind of a fun story. And that is coming up. How is that fun? Oh, wait, I, it's fun because of what is going on. It's just a dropy like flights. It's a fun story. Well, no, as a result of that. But this is the fun part of it. Okay. Kono, good morning. Good morning, Bill. Did you get a haircut? Not that you can tell. Got them all cut. Yeah, there you go. Oh, my dad. Okay. So good. This is why Cono is not behind the mic. Okay. And so there's Amy, which we've already said hello to. Hi. And Anne. Last and certainly not or maybe least or moderately least. Can you just be nice? No. I hate you. We all love you, Ann. I know. We all love you, don't we? Yes, we do. You don't need Bill's love. It's filthy. It pretty much is. Yeah, it is. Okay, we've got a lot going on. The deal has not yet been cut. Has it? We're waiting any moment for that Senate House bill, actually in the Senate, to fund the government because that ends. The government runs out of money. It doesn't run out of money. It can't spend any money. Can't borrow money and spend money when the fiscal year runs out. And that happens tomorrow or when the budget year runs out. And that happens tomorrow or tonight at midnight. There ain't no money. It's really weird how it works with the federal government. Federal government prints money. Governments all over the place print money. Except Ecuador. You know Ecuador, the official, oh, here's a little factoid. Do you know what the official currency of Ecuador is? The official legal currency, the dollar. And they don't print the dollar. They don't print any money. It is the dollar, the U.S. dollar. I didn't know that. Yeah, of course that, because you are not in the obscure factoid world. Yeah, I'm a good driver. Yeah, there you are. In any case, so here you have the U.S. government printing money, and it has to be really careful about how much money to print because inflation, you know, you go beyond walking that very fine line. And so it runs out of money. Okay, end year. Okay, we vote ourselves a budget, which means that the money has to be borrowed because there is no surplus at all. We're in deficit, hundreds of billions and sometimes a trillion dollars. And so it has to borrow money. When it stops itself from borrowing money and spending money, it has to do both, then the government shuts down. That's the government shutdown. And there's a move to not even have borrowing, just it goes unlimited for the rest of your, rest of, in perpetuity. Government runs out of money, it prints more money, it borrows more money. Borrowing money is selling T-bills, selling various securities that people all over the world buy. Because as crappy as our economy is, it's still the best in the world. The other countries are far crappier.

7:37

There are a few, but they're very small that are in really good shape. Norway, for example, has the North Sea oil, which the government owns the oil that is put into a fund every year, which is why the standard of living in Norway is so insanely high. Okay, enough of that. What do you think? God, we started with the show already. I think we should note, Bill, that even if the Senate passes it, the House would have to pass it before midnight. They can't really, unless they really beat feet and get back there because they're not in session right now. Yeah, and I don't know if Mike Johnson is willing to have everybody come back. He can call. He can say, we want you, but getting on airplanes flying into Washington, D.C. In the midst of another winter storm. Yeah, when the airport is shut down, how do they get there? You're right. But a shutdown of a couple of days is going to change much. shutdown of a few days isn't going to change much. The majority of shutdowns, and we've had dozens of them over the last decade or two, or several decades, but a couple of days isn't the end of the world. It's those 38-day ones that are real shockers. Okay, guys, let's do it. It's time for Handel on the News with Amy, Neil, and me, and we have two lead stories.

8:59

One of them, first one, this just happened. Don Lemon, former CNN anchor, has been arrested, taken into custody as a result of him being involved to whatever extent the government says. And he says in that church demonstration, remember when they broke into the church because the pastor was also an ICE supervisor. Anyway, he has been arrested. These many weeks afterward, it was a grand jury indictment they got. So he's arguing that he was just covering it and arguing he was just a journalist. Yeah, I think he said he found out about it when he got there or something. But there are accusations that he was like he's been in on the planning or something like that. Don Lemon, didn't he get tossed for sexual impropriety? Why was he fired? I think he was. I think he was fired for sexual impropriety. Yep. Yep. He was saying, you can't even say things today. It gets you in trouble. You look at an attractive woman passing and you go, boy, look at those Winnebago's. You say that and you are in deep trouble today. Well, what if she sells recreational vehicles? Oh, well, if she's carrying recreational vehicles on her body. And here's the other lead story. We are, as Amy had just told us, the Democrats and Trump looks like they have a deal. This is in the Senate, looks like they have a deal. And this had to do with the pushback from what's happening in Minneapolis. The government is absolutely backing down. They're soft peddling this thing, leading wide open this. this budget deal in which the Homeland Security Department Homeland Security is going to get its funding for two weeks based on the fact that the administration has agreed to terms like no more masks on ICE agents. They can't just arbitrarily walk in and break into homes, businesses. They need a warrant. So there are some things that are going on that things are changing for sure. Okay. Why was Tulsi Gabbard there? The director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, hasn't been seen much lately, but when FBI agents went to the election center in Fulton County, Georgia to do a raid looking for ballots from the 2020 presidential election, There was Tulsi Gabbard. National security experts are saying it raises questions about whether she is seeking new relevancy in the eyes of a president who has soured on her. Yeah, the national security officials don't show up at domestic events like this. They're not allowed to by law. It's international stuff domestically by law. They can't get involved. So what the hell was she doing there?

12:19

It was, yeah, she is, I think she's on her way out. And this is the way Trump operates. And like many presidents do, instead of just outright saying you're fired, you're fired when it comes to a Trump ally. Then it's, the move is kind of slow. Also, I think Kristi Noem may be in trouble too. He had, there was that cabinet meeting yesterday where they, when the cabinet meets, then what they do is Trump has them sit around the table, as we know, and then goes to each cabinet member and asks, what's going on, please report. And 95% of it is you're the greatest president that ever was. We are so lucky to have you as our president. You should win the Nobel Prize. You should retire the Nobel Prize because after it's given to you, it's going to be meaningless. I mean, on and by the way, I'm not exaggerating very much here. They suck up to him on that level. And Kristi Noem was not asked to speak at all where she normally would. Boy, what does that mean? He bypassed her, went right past her. It's probably a good thing to keep her quiet. Yeah, I would hope so. Well, he didn't talk to a lot of people yesterday. Yeah, but it was, yeah, which department had did he not talk to? He said there were several. He kind of skipped over people. Yeah, I don't, I don't know. I don't know which one. Yeah, the big one is, is her. You would just think, though, during this time, that would be important in Portland. Yes, good point. Good point. All right. In this time, it's like, you know, weather czar. You'd probably want to talk to them about, you know, the eastern, northern eastern part of the U.S. too. Right. All right. So the press, Mr. Donald Trump, he's got two older sons that we know, and they got a family business. Well, they are suing the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Treasury. This all goes back to alleged leaks of their confidential tax information. This is a civil suit. And they're seeking $10 billion damages according to this. Yeah, from the government. Federal court, yeah. Yeah, from the government. And this is, and don't you find this interesting because this is leaking of IRS information. Now, every president not only leaks information, makes public tax returns. And President Trump said he would while he was running. And then after he was elected and he was called on it, he went, huh? Did I say that? Oh, I remember that. But isn't this different? Isn't this his eldest son's company? Yes. And they're saying this Chaz or Charles Chaz, Little John. Yeah. And I don't know if I don't know if Trump was involved in that. Right now, the sons run the business.

15:20

And I don't know if he has kept his, I don't know if he has kept his interest in the business or turned it all over to his kids. This is one of the ones that he kind of handed over wink wink to his children wink. Yeah, I think that, yes, I think so. I'm not doing anything. Usually it's put, usually all the assets are put into a blind trust where the person who's ever in government or running for government turns it over to a trustee who does not tell him. or her with where the money is and where it's going. It's a, it's a wall. If somebody who worked in the IRS did this politically, leaked it politically, could they be, could the IRS or that person be doing? Yeah, I think so. I think so. Yeah. He is. The one guy is serving a five-year sentence. He pleaded guilty to disclosing tax return information. Chaz? With the name like Chas? Little John. Is that Chaz Little John? Yeah. Yeah. Chas, Little John. This is a Robin Hood episode. Is that what we're talking about here? Little John, yeah. Yeah. Okay. A failed attempt, this is so bizarre, to spring Luigi Mangione. Of course, Mangione is the guy who's accused of shooting and killing the head of United Healthcare on a street in Manhattan right outside a hotel. And somebody showed up at the prison in New York City and said, hey, I got a court order to release Luigi Mangione. Give him to me. And then they said, do you have any proof, documentation, anything? He shows him a Minnesota driver's license, claimed he had weapons, and then threw paperwork at them. Right. And so they looked in his backpack, and there were the weapons, deadly weapons. One, a barbecue fork. You know, those long barbecue fork. That's a big fork, yeah. And the other one is a pizza cutter, which, and those round pizza cutters, not even the one with handles, which can be weapons when they slice you up. These are just the wheels? Just the wheel, yes. But how big did they didn't hear the big brass balls on that guy walking in there? Yeah, I'm a BFI. Agent, my name's Scully. And we need them. Yep. I love it. All right, L.A. Metro. Who did not see this one come and talk about a money grab? So we've, you know, KFI has put. billboards up and we've done buses and bus shelters. Well, you've got this new so-called documentary, Melania, and they got it on buses and bus stops. And people are painting Hitler-style mustaches on her, putting expletives referring to her husband, of course, Donald Trump, and references to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

18:14

Yeah, now that was the bus stops. We're talking just the bus stops. And now they're moving the buses in a secure location. The thing that makes me laugh here is L.A. Metro comes out and they said the vandalism spree was extensive and severe. So, you know, property damage. And, of course, you know, they've got to protect people on the buses. But they said. Well, they decided to move the vehicles to other locations where there are fewer such concerns. And I'm like, like white neighborhoods. Yeah. What is the what? It's like what, where, where what are you? Orange County. Yeah. Orange County. Well, oh, yeah, Orange County doesn't have billboards illegal. So maybe. I don't know. That's not LA Metro. The documentary, Melania, which Amazon paid, or is it Netflix, Amazon paid $40 million for the rights to this film. And it was a $35 million promotion budget that is ending next week. And it's going to debut at the Donald J. Trump Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Center for the Performing Arts. They did the premiere last night. Oh, and how did it go? It was the best movie debut ever. Yeah. Did Melania get a sitting ovation? She got a standing ovation, I'm sure. It was a very Trump-friendly crowd. Yeah. As a matter of fact, she got a standing ovation on stepstools. Man, they really wanted them to stand up. Okay. Can we get the carpet to be extra red, the most red carpet? Oh, you guys. Melani is lovely. I don't know that. She certainly dresses well. I'll tell you that. She ages very, very well. Do you know her? She's a very attractive woman. She's a very private person. Very private. Thanks for the memories. Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino, who was recently demoted from his role in Minneapolis. during the aggressive deportation operations, has sent a message to the agents he oversaw in Minnesota. He praised them, send them, send them love in a video that was filmed in front of Mount Rushmore. Oh, that's sweet. That's not a political statement, is it? Ham-handed.

20:44

Give me a break. This was this, he was at, he was the poster child of the way ICE has been treating detainees and arresting people. He was the guy. And so, uh, he may get fired for all I know. He was certainly demoted. Something's got to happen. Yeah, exactly. I mean, there's a lot of very rough stuff going on. Okay, not breaking news, but an addendum to our earlier conversation. The TGIF in West Covina off of the 10 is closed and now a Brazilian steakhouse there. Katie Porter Ranch still has the TGIFs for those playing the home game. And there are two. Claim jumpers left right now, South Coast Plaza, and right across from Knottesbury Farm. Oh, that's right. That's where it was. I knew I had just seen one. Okay. So thanks to everybody helping out there. All right, back to the news, shall we go? What a weird story. Somebody wants to look at handles privates in the bathroom, apparently, because they found a hidden camera inside the restroom at a Kaiser Permanente Hospital in West Los Angeles. But it looks like it was in the employee restroom. And I, women, well, I guess women would have these in the sit downs too. But you know that little place, the little eye that sees you that knows when you get up or whatever or walk away from the toilet that makes it flush. Yeah. That's where it sounds like this thing was located. It's at a video from a member showed a camera was found, this is the interesting word, embedded in the wall above the toilet's flush o meter. A flushing meter. Don't you ever look at those in the little red eye blinking and go, I wonder if somebody's watching. Well, at this West Los Angeles, Kaiser Permanente, somebody would. And of course, now you've got around 39 victims, including emergency room nurses that she doesn't think about this. They're suing Kaiser. But, you know, where is Kaiser wrong on this? Is Kaiser supposed to go through every restroom? That's what I was going to see if there are hidden cameras. How can you? I, yeah, if I'm on the jury, I'm not going to nail Kaiser on this. I mean, you have to show some kind of negligence. Well, you could sue the guy. I guess the guy was an employee. Yeah, but so what? I mean, what do you see? Come on, you're going to sue some guy. What if he had a sexual history or had some legal background? Then that's different. That's different. Then you have Kaiser. Then you could probably sue Kaiser if there is a pattern of crazy stuff. But, you know, but even a criminal background. Take that right. Yeah, is, no. Okay. And the winner is Kevin Warsh. President Trump says he's going to nominate the former Federal Reserve official to be the next chair of the Fed. Of course, Jerome Powell, who has been criticized incessantly by President Trump is out in May. And Trump said today is going to put Kevin Warsh in place. Trump actually chose Jerome Powell in 2017 over Kevin Warsh. Kevin Warsh was interviewed at that time. Yeah, and Kevin Warsh has credentials. I mean, this guy is certainly qualified, unlike Tulsi Gabbard, unlike Robert F. Kennedy Jr.., unlike Pam Bondi. I mean, this guy, he's the real guy. What makes him so interesting is that he has been a hawk to raise interest rates historically.

24:14

Which is interesting because Trump wants to lower interest rate. Lower. Exactly. That's the point. And part of this entire move is to get rid of the independence of the Fed and effectively have President Trump tell the Fed where the interest rate should go. But how does that play out if he is against lowering interest rates? I don't know. I don't know. That's what makes this so interesting, as you point out. And I don't know the answer to that. And I don't think anybody else does. Right now, interest rates are what, right now, what, over 3%, 3.5%? 3.5%? Trump wants it under 1% to really speed up the economy, which of course means inflation too when you have a real hot economy. I'd like to be thin. Yeah, that's not going to be for a while. All right, this is interesting. You want to go to a break? Yeah, we're going to take another break. Boy, you get so excited about this stuff, Neil. Hey, Kono. Koma, Koma. We'll get to it. Kalmate. Yeah, we'll get through it. Listen, that's a nice set of Oshbush, gosh, gosh, gosh. Once again, I believe that we as humans get super stupid when we get emotional. California is projected to lose as many as four congressional seats after the 2030 census. This is an estimation due to the population decline. So that would mean that there's four seats less in California and a perceived or believed jump. If these trends hold because of migration to places like Texas and Florida, they could gain four seats each. Oh, the other states could gain seats. Yeah, Texas and Florida. Yeah, it's all based on population. There are exactly 435 Congress people in the United States Congress. And that is split up among the states based on population. Here's a fun factoid. And that is that I think it's Rhode Island. Rhode Island has two senators because, of course, it is a state. And it has one congressperson. It is easier to win a Senate seat than it is a Congress seat. And California, of course, being the most populous state, has, what, how many does it have? 53, 52, and it's dropping to 48, which gives it less power. Now, it doesn't matter that it drops as far as the politics, but they're all Democrat, and they are, that's four seats less than the Democrats, but. The reapportionment, right? The redistricting is going to change things. It's a little complicated and it's politics. Oh, how unusual politics today. Yeah, but it's not even politics. Well, it is because California run like crap and people are leaving. And then you've got a minority population of illegal immigration leaving. Oh, they can't vote. They can't vote. No matter what the administration says illegal immigrants do not vote. No, no, no. It's not about voting. It's about.

27:26

head counting. This is the sense. That is. Head counting. That's true. It is about head counting. So if you count the heads, it doesn't matter whether they're voting or not. You're still going to get those extra four. Yes, or lose them. That is correct. That is correct. Okay. Amy. Gavin Newsom is not at all happy with Dr. Oz. Dr. Oz is the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the Trump administration. And the governor has filed a civil rights complaint against Oz after he posted a video accusing Armenian crime groups of widespread health care fraud. He said, as he was being driven around part of Van Nuys that in a video, that about $3.5 billion worth of Medicare fraud had been perpetrated by hospice and home care businesses. And it is run quite a bit of it, in his words, by the Russian Armenian mafia. You know, that story broke when the news discovered that too many women were buying razor blades at stores in the neighborhoods there. In Glendale? Is what you're trying to say? Well, also in various other parts of the valley. Also, Van Nuys. Okay. Yeah, that's a group. Emails go to Neil. Emails go to Neil for complaints. Yes. No, no, no. Yes. Uh. Waymo concern going on with Waymo. They just had one that went through Echo Park like went nuts. And then and that one was supposedly being driven by somebody remotely. But Waymo, which I am a fan of, those self-driving taxis recently struck a child near the Santa Monica Elementary School. during drop-off hours. Yeah, and they're making a big deal about this because from what the story says, the kid jumped out in front of the Waymo vehicle between two cars and it didn't have time to react, although the sensors react far, far faster than a human being. Absolutely. I was wondering if... If the kid might have been killed, if it had been a person. No, yeah, that's exactly the point. Yeah, because, and how many kids are hurt and how many people are hurt by drivers who drive too quickly and don't realize. It will ultimately be way safer once there's more and more. Oh, absolutely. I think the future, the future is going to be, and it's not going to happen any time real soon. And that is all cars on the road will be automatic, will be self-driving. And then gridlock is done.

30:05

Gridlock is finished at that point because cars can go along the freeway is 65 miles per hour. They can be 10 feet from each other, five feet from each other. Do lane changes safely and there won't be any sudden stops. I mean, it's going to be terrific. There was a television show that took place in the future and someone was pulled over for driving. And they're like, why were you driving by hand? And they said, what show is that? I love it. It was a class of 96 or something like that. It was about the CIA or the FBI or something. But yeah, it's funny. They're like, why were you driving manually? All right. Let's do one more story before we bail out of here. Amy. The president's number one fan has a gold card. Nikki Minaj, who has been very outspoken about her support for President Trump recently. revealed that back in 2018 that she was brought to the U.S. as an illegal immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago when she was five. Well, yesterday she, actually on Wednesday, she flashed a Trump gold card. after launching the president's IRA-style savings account, the Trump accounts. But you pay a million dollars and you are fast track for American citizenship. She says her citizenship paperwork is being finalized. Yeah. Did you, yesterday the story broke about the visa card that Visa and Trump are now coordinating with each other. And in order to apply for the visa card, it is a $15,000 non-refundable deposit made to the U.S. government. And then you get this visa card. I mean, it's with, of course, Trump's picture on it, naturally. And it's just completely crazy. All of it's crazy. Do you know anybody with one of these really pretentious made out of metal credit cards? One of my friends has one. Thank you. One of my best friends has one. Actually, two of my friends have one. They obviously have more money than me. Yeah. From what I understand, they are made out of titanium and they're pretty solid to say the least. Let's take a break, okay? Why don't we get the hell out of here? This is KFI AM 640, more stimulating talk radio.
