You're listening to KFI, AM 640, the Bill Handel show On Demand, on the Iheart Radio app. It's the news. It's the news. Now, Handel on the news. Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel. Good morning, everybody. Friday. What a Friday it is, too. A couple things. First of all, everybody's back. Neil is back from being under the weather. He's even dancing in his chair. Damn straight. Happy to be here. So what happened a couple of days ago? Your kidney was flying out of your body, falling out of your innards. I dropped my back, and then I got a little bit of the crud, and I just felt the body was saying, hey, fatty, why don't you stay in bed? Yeah. All right. Well, so who did we have replaced you? Nobody. That's what we had replacing you. All right. So welcome back. Amy, she's back. Normally? I'm here. There you are. Okay, I can't see the sweatshirt. Oh, it says USA. Opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Today? Yeah, it's actually, they start at 8 o'clock. here. 8 o'clock our time. So in a couple of hours, we'll see opening ceremonies. But you can watch them tonight at 5 on NBC. Yeah, it's going to be really interesting. It is. Yeah, and the seats, they're going to be in the stadium. People are going to have a hard time staying in their seats. Mainly because it's going to slip off. That's an oily Italian joke, by the way. Coming up in a little bit, by the way, keep an eye on the male ski jumpers. Oh, no, we have a whole world of that one coming up. We'll talk about that. I did not expect that. Yeah, I know. It's just, it's true. This is worth listening to. I'll tell you coming up at 7.30. I guarantee you. This is, as I was telling Ann, this is already the topic of the year, and it's only February. Okay, it's literally the beginning of February, and I've already got the topic of the year. That's 730, and that, if you don't have a chance to listen, podcast it. Go to the IHeart Radio app and podcast it because it's going to be well worth it. Okay, so Amy, USA, there is a Kono. I can't, you know, I can't read the T-shirts or the sweatshirts. What does that one say? Oh, this one is just the ghost inside. It's a band. Yeah, okay. I didn't know you're going to highlight me at 730, by the way. Oh, yeah, very funny. Okay, good, good for you. All right, yeah, yeah, sure. Then there's Will. Good morning, Will. Good morning. I have no idea what y'all are talking about, so I can't wait to see. Yeah, you're going to love this one. And you have, is that Fox? It's a Fox thing, yeah. Oh, it's a Fox logo on his shirt. God, everybody is dressed up with a shirt. And you have what, your chargers?
I wore a shirt today too. Everybody has their, you know, literally. And Neil has what, the Twilight Zone Marathon T-shirt. Damn straight. I'm the only one. I have my Hawaiian shirt. Let's say. Or one of my multitude Hawaiian shirt. I don't know. It's just, it's some kind of a leaf something. I don't know. It's a kind of a leaf something. Yeah. Ann, what are you jumping on, Ann? You mean Amy? That's what I meant. Sorry. I was like, oh, nothing. I know. What is that? Granola and yogurt. Healthy. Breakfast are champions. Yeah, no, no. You are a good eater in the sense that you eat healthy, which is why you're so sveled. No, she's slender. And also sveled. Are those hearts in your eyes? Why don't we do a little, why don't we use some morphology jokes around the room here? Okay, Will, how are you doing in that slender category? Not so good. Neil, how are you doing in slender? Even not so good. Well, I'm going to leave the women alone. I'm going to leave the women, although Anne is looking great these days. By me. And you are, Anne. Yeah, no, you are. You've lost, you have gone from out and out heifer. That's not true, though. Well, you were pretty chunky. She was not chunky. She was chunky. Oh, my God. Just letting you know. When was she chunky? Yeah. What are you talking about? How much weight? Ann, how much weight have you lost? How much weight have you lost? Maybe 40? Okay, put 40 pounds on her now and tell me that's not chunky. She's fine. She was chunky. And I call out people that are fat, like Neil. Neil is way beyond Chunky. Neil left Chunky a long time ago. Hey, I'm pretty excited. Kono is too. They're making another Wizard of Oz movie, so he might be leaving us for some work. I hope you get the mayor, pal. I know you can do it. All right. So much for all of it. I said hello to the crowd. And we might, it's good to have everybody back. And it's Friday, which of course is terrific fun because at 8 o'clock is Foody Friday when Neil and I talk about all things food. And then we have. Ask Handel anything and we did really well this week with the phone calls So we're gonna have a good time had by all you ready to do it? It is time for Handel on the news with Amy Neal who is back and me lead story
All right, guess what? It looks like Iran is willing and ready to talk to the U.S. And they're going to meet in, oh, man, on today. I think it's pronounced Oman. Oh, oh, I got it. All right. And they're willing, and this is Iran. I think they're sweating bullets. I do believe that when Donald Trump says, hey, you know what, you stop doing what you're doing or we're going to launch those missiles, we're going to attack you. They're now taking that seriously. They need to sweat bullets to be able to defend themselves. And of course, their usual crapola that they spew if the United States does anything, if it is going to. engage in not recognizing the sovereignty and security of Iran in the face of adventurism or excessive demands, then we're going to go to war. We will attack Israel. We will. Okay. All right. Try that one again. All right. See what happened last time. Potential tragedy brings out the bad guys, doesn't it? There's a man from Hawthorne. has been arrested for sending imposter ransom messages to the family of today's show host Savannah Guthrie. His name is Heath. Oh, not his name. Heath Jenkey is a special agent in charge of the FBI's Phoenix Division and announced at a news conference saying to those impostors who are trying to take advantage and profit from the situation, meaning the... Nancy Guthrie being missing. We will investigate and ensure that you are held accountable for your actions. Derek Kalea from Hawthorne is expected to be in court today. Yeah, and that was the fear from the beginning. As soon as the first ransom note was received, the question became, is this real or not? Because we live in that kind of a world now. Also, that video of Samantha Guthrie and her brother and sister in which she is begging for the return of their mom and effectively saying, we're ready to talk. We're ready to negotiate and sort of the words weren't said but meant and we're ready to pay you. And just effectively give. I'm paraphrasing to the fullest extent because they handled it very differently and very, very well, saying we want to reach out and we're willing to talk. Did you notice how wretched she looked? I mean, wretched in the sense that her heart was, and the siblings. All of them looked like they'd just been squeezed like 11. Yeah, I mean, just had they gone through, and they did. They've gone through one of the worst experiences that any family could go through. And she was extraordinarily close to her mom, which makes it even worse. And it doesn't bode well for her mother.
Although the sheriff says he still thinks that Anne Guthrie is still alive. Nancy. Nancy, I'm sorry, that Nancy Guthrie is still alive, which means that a... kidnapping. You can't kidnap anybody today and get away with it. I mean, that's impossible. Other than this fake one that Amy just talked about, the imposter, was, did anybody reach out? Because I don't, I didn't hear that. I think there was two. There may have been two of them, if I'm not mistaken. Harvey Levin was on CNN yesterday, like all day long. He received one. TMZ received one of these ransom letters. And he said, of course, turned it over immediately to the sheriffs. And he couldn't say much about it because the FBI is involved in investigating. But what he did share is this was serious stuff. These people knew exactly what they were doing. They were demanding Bitcoin. It's a real address that the Bitcoin goes to. I mean, it was, he said, if it was, well, this would be from someone who knew his or her stuff. And it was a legitimate. uh request not request demand as opposed to some crazy ass uh doing it with letters from the newspaper magazines kind of thing yeah it's just that we talked about this earlier in the week and it and the weirdest thing was that nobody came out early on that we know of that just with a ransom which makes also also uh the uh the medication she needs basically to stay alive is now almost six days into this thing You know, at some point, you say this is such an issue, medically speaking. And then, of course, the blood that was found on the doorstep. And it turned out to be her blood. So it's pretty, yeah, it's not good news. I don't think it's, but hope against hope, you know, you have a family member and you're going to grasp at any straw out there. Love to hear your take on this bill. Trump says he's not going to extend the nuclear arms treaty with Russia. He says he called for a new deal to include China on this, which. Kind of makes sense to me. So rather than extend new start, he said it was a badly negotiated deal by the United States that, aside from everything else, it's being grossly violated. So he wants to go back to the drawing board on this one and work towards a new. treaty. Right. And it is being grossly violated. He's right. The problem is, is why would Russia not grossly violate the next treaty that is going to be signed with the United States? Makes the question, doesn't it? Yes. But what about the China pirate? Do you think it's smart to add China in there? Yeah, I do. Yeah, I thought so as well. Absolutely. And all of these treaties have always been between Russia and the United States. China wasn't a player. And now China is a world power. Matter of fact, it is second area of the United States and quickly going to become first.
So probably needed to be done anyways. It has to be done. Now, whether you continue start or negotiate or amend start, that's a different story. But the president doesn't like treaties that were signed before his tenure. He wants his signature on it? Oh, he wants to call it the Trump-Russia treaty. And there's a great story about a name, a Trump name. He sort of outdid himself on another one. We'll go through that in a few minutes. Bad batteries. LA fire is trying to convince city leaders to create some regulations because lithium ion batteries are blown up and they're causing a lot of fires. New York City actually did make some changes to their code because there was a bunch of fires in apartments in New York City and a lot of them got linked to those lithium-ion battery powered scooters. Right. How about the ones that are in laptops that you take on airplanes that have ignited? How about the ones that are in people's pockets that have ignited where Jerry Lee Lewis was so ahead of his time when he wrote Great Balls of Fire? I mean, the guy was brilliant. I will tell you this, and I just sent a video to Rich on tech. Send him a video because I use these a lot in my shop. But I keep them in special containers and things like that. Don't ever buy cheap rechargeable batteries. By name brand, there is massive, massive difference in each one of these. And fire hazards go up when you buy the cheap ones and go way, way, way down when you buy Samsung and things like that. All right, good advice. Thank you, Neil. You're welcome. Now, here's the story that I love. I just, I don't know if it's true or not. I knew you were going to love this one. Well, I don't know if it's true or not because we have to, we have to mention that this is, we don't know exactly who did this. uh who said this uh but if it was said let's just go through the story because this is that's not a problem with this is all of us can believe this yes that's the problem yeah i'm not doing a good job of uh stating my position so i'm babbling here but go ahead president donald trump apparently told senate my minority uh leader Chuck Schumer last month that he may be prepared to, you know, thaw out that freeze on billions of dollars in funding for major New York infrastructure. There's a lot going on. Dulles Airport, Penn Station. These things need infrastructure help. And he says he'll do it on one tiny condition. Exchange for the money, they have to agree to change New York's Penn Station, Washington's Dulles International Airport after Trump. Yeah, this is the Gateway Project. It's a huge tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey. I mean, it's enormous. It's billions of dollars. And according to, and this is not Chuck Schumer's office said this, this is not Trump's office. This is two people familiar with a conversation, according to CNN. So until this is confirmed, and as Neil said, it's believable because it is it is Trump.
tells Chuck Schumer, I will give you the money for that Gateway Project if you name the project after me. It's, I don't know, anybody else, if I heard that about any other president, it's a joke. That's all it is. It's an onion piece. It comes out of the onion. Now, this one, I think you're right. It's believable. Because we have just a few things. The Trump Gold Card, the Trump RX website. We have the Trump class battleships. We have the Trump Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Center. I mean, it goes on and on and on. And on. The man who decided not to run for mayor is, well, he's not running for mayor. So yesterday there was rumors swirling that billionaire developer Rick Caruso was going to get back or to get into the race for mayor because of the report that Karen Bass had wanted that after action report from the fires watered down. And so he said he was thinking about it. Last month, he had announced, nah, not running. And yesterday, a political consultant for Caruso said, you know, hey, he's really moved by the outperforming of support that he's gotten, but he's not going to be a candidate for mayor. Yeah, which is a shame because I think he would be the one that would topple Mayor Karen Bass, which I think she's vulnerable right now. I think these fires have really hurt her. Yeah, but who's running against her? Austin Boutner is out now because his daughter just passed away. There's nobody there. Caruso would be the only one. Yeah, and you think it would be good to vote for somebody who puts their money into L.A. rather than... takes money from L.A. Yeah, he's developed a lot of properties. Okay, one quick one, and then we're going to bail out of here. Kono, whose house? Ram's house. You got it. Ram's quarterback Matthew Stafford wins the NFL MVP award. Tadal-a-da-da-da-da-la-a. L-A, L-A, L-A. Okay. That's it. Short and sweet. Short and sweet, and I assume all of us are going to be watching the Super Bowl this weekend. She's her bowel. Yeah, and, yeah, I know who that Anne is, Amy's doing it. Neil, are you going to watch? It'll be on in the background. I got stuff to do. Oh, okay. And Will, are you going to be watching it? I'm going to be there. I'm going to be... Not in the stadium. I'll be flying overhead before the game. Oh, that gives you a good chance to see the game. 30,000 feet, 550 miles per hour. Yeah, you'll be able to catch about 12 seconds of it. No, he totally can. He was doing the Dodgers game, one of the playoff games, and he was flying in the plane around the stadium, and he zoomed in, found my seat.
And it's up on social meeting. He spotted me in the stadium. Now, wait a second. So you are going to be flying overhead. You're reporting from there. No, I just shoot the camera. It's a camera thing. No, I understand. But you're actually, I thought you were just going to be an airline. You're going to be on an airplane going right over it is what I thought you said. I'll be there. We do pregame stuff for the Super Bowl. We don't actually fly the game. So I'll be in the Bay Area like getting the scenic shots in commercial. Good for you. Good for you. Yeah. Yeah. Fun. Yeah. A lot of people think that Will has this really minor small part on our show, which of course he does. But he also has minor small parts in virtually every side gig he has. Okay. Ice is getting the cold shoulder at the Winter Olympics. U.S. immigration and customs enforcement agents are not part of the Team USA delegation at the Winter Games. That's according to U.S. Olympic officials. They say there is no or there are no ICE agents that are part of Team USA's delegation on the ground in Milan. But apparently ICE is there. It has been. And it goes to events, international events like this, quite often. So. You know, it's obviously here more a question of perception and anything else than they want to make it absolutely clear. So that's the cold shoulder. Now let's go to another body part. And Neil, I want to point, I don't want to put a caveat here, okay? Because I'm doing this story at 730. I'm going to really go in depth into this story coming up. So just the highlights of this, if you don't mind, sort of to tease what we're going to do at 730. Gotcha. Well, a new term. Look at that guy. It's hung like a ski jumper. So they are apparently ski jumpers being they and the Winter Olympics are enhancing their penises to fly further. And it's not what, it's not like, hey, a little extra weight's going to pull me. But it is because of the sizing of their uniforms. Yeah, this is science. And getting, yeah, and getting a canopy sort of like a. Yeah, they make the penis bigger, which means the suits, which are form-fitted, are bigger. It's going to be a little looser, which has an aerodynamic trait to it. Yeah, and actually gives you more lift. It says ski jumpers with large penises. Now, this originally started with the medical experimenters with pole jumpers and pole vaulters, and it tended to work out very well, so now they moved it over to the ski jump crowd. Wow. Yeah. Exactly. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Trump's on drugs. Okay, he's not on, well, he is on drugs. He is on drugs. Yeah, and he's on the price of drugs. So they've launched TrumpRX.org or is it.gov. It's a website that will help patients buy prescription drugs at discounted prices. President Trump said, You're going to save a fortune. I don't do a good Trump, obviously. None of us do, but it's still funny. Okay, he says you're going to save a fortune. The website is not a platform for buying medications, apparently, though. It is set up as a facilitator that points you to drug makers direct to consumer websites. And that's where you can make purchases. It also provides coupons to use at pharmacies. Now, this is not a big deal except that it is something.
It's better than nothing. And it's moving in the right direction. If I can get an inhaler for my cat for $50 instead of $400, I'd be very happy. Absolutely. But then there's good RX. There are other websites that do the same thing. But I'm going to give kudos to this. And it's... Yeah, and it's Trump RX. And by the way, you can do a great impression of Trump. Amy, all you have to say is, hi, welcome back to Trump news. Well, I talk about Trump right here on KF Trump. We can, yes. You know what would be good? You know what would be good for him if he got, instead of a dot com or dot gov, that he gets dot Trump. Yes. It would be Trump RX dot Trump. Yeah. All right, Hillary Clinton, you know, we've been hearing. about them going back and forth, about being deposed. But now things are sort of changing. She says, she being Hillary Clinton, says that there are some games being played here, and Comer is the one playing them. So former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says that she is pushing for public hearings after former President Clinton agreed. She and former President Clinton agreed to testify before the House committee. This is all dealing with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But then she was told that they were going to be putting cameras in there. And I'm guessing that the concern would be it being edited or something like that. So she said, just make it live. Public. Yeah, there's a, so they're coming to terms. And the fear was that there was going to be contempt of Congress issued against the Clintons for not cooperating. Didn't Steve Bannon go to prison for four months, if I'm not mistaken, for contempt of Congress? So, and keep in mind, the Clintons are merely civilians. They have absolutely no power or no. ability to say anything. Well, I could say during the course of a presidency. No, I think that they're liable open to contempt for Congress like anybody else, like any other American. But say what you will about the Clintons. They're not stupid people. So they've got to be navigating this and looking at it saying, listen, we'll do it under certain terms. We're not going to set ourselves up. I'll bet you the negotiations with their attorneys went crazy. Okay. So what is the real answer? Why was DNI Tulsi Gabbard at that FBI search of an election office in Georgia where 2020 ballots were seized? Well, at the prayer breakfast yesterday, President Trump said it was Attorney General Pam Bondi, who insisted that Tulsi Gabbard oversee the raid at Fulton County Elections Hub and Operation Center.
But then on an NBC news interview, they asked why Tulsi Gabbard was there. And he said, I don't know. And then he later... The Tulsi Gabbard's office said that Trump ordered her to be there. Yeah. I mean, it's... And by the way, this is the Director of National Intelligence, which has nothing to do with the FBI. an FBI search warrant. I mean, zero. She has no business being there. It's all so convoluted. Well, here's what it is. It's, there's only one big agency under President Trump. There are no independent separate agencies. It's all one big agency. So he probably was looking at it and said, hey, Gabby, why don't you go? Absolutely. I mean, he, it's, there, there's no independence. There's no separation. There's no Chinese wall or firewall. And so no surprise there. And in many cases, one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. It's like grew from despicable me. It's just grew and the minions. It doesn't matter. There is no hierarchy. They're just minions. Yes. All right. This is, oh, boy, bad timing all the way around. The all American halftime show that is supposed to be the alternative to the Super Bowl halftime show. Of course, this is organized by the conservative group, Turning Point USA. This was to counter the fact that Bad Bunny. was going to be, is going to be doing the halftime show and all the hubbub that was surrounding that. So they say they're putting together this all American halftime show, headliner Kid Rock. They said this is going to be an alternative about American faith, family and freedom, all this stuff. And then, unfortunately, someone starts digging into Kid Rock's 2001 song, Cool Daddy, which contains the lyrics. Young ladies, young ladies, I like them underage. See some say that's statutory, but I say that's mandatory. Quality. Quality. Yeah, that's a little rough. I mean, I'm sure that you'll have people sort of poop-pooing that. Oh, he really didn't mean that. That said, that was just a song. I don't know from what perspective the song is written, you know. Does it matter? Well, I love little girls by angle. Boygo. It's like, I don't know. Have you seen the lyrics of some of the performers at Super Bowl over the years? Yes, but they're not claiming family faith in America. Listen, you make that claim. Even Bruno Mars, the best Super Bowl performer of all time has a nasty old lyrics. Yeah, but here's the deal. They're not saying this is the point, though. When you say this is your all-American halftime show and it's about American faith. family and freedom and all that and you've got that i'm sorry you deserve i mean there's that and there is a spin to it amy for example you know we have uh you know men of uh of the clergy uh who are caught in compromising positions with uh oh children hookers uh all manner of uh
let's just say questionable activities. And what makes it particularly good is the faith and value and the family values and the Christian values. And excuse me, I have a hooker waiting for me backstage. You're going to get nailed for that. And you should expect that. I think that's the difference. I think that is the difference. A squeaky clean option from. I don't think he's going to be singing this song at the show. Probably not. Probably not. It's a repertoire. Okay, let's do one. No, we'll just leave it at that point. Why, you could make a comment about Trump. I can make a comment about Trump no matter what. Give me a topic. I'll make a comment about Trump. The Muppets. The Dodgers are going to the White House. Oh, that's right. Okay, the Dodgers going to the White House. That was the story. Yeah, that was. They've accepted the invitation. And the argument is why would you go? A lot of teams say no thank you to go to the White House under Trump when they win a championship. And the Dodgers are going and their argument is and it's legitimate. This is tradition. And it is tradition. Now, does tradition supersede any feelings about Donald Trump? Well, yeah, for certain teams. Yes, certain teams, no. But the Dodgers are going. Are they still skipping? Because I know during his first term, several sports teams passed ongoing. Right. They've been showing up. Yeah, I don't know if other teams, I don't know of any team that has said no this time around. But the Dodgers are going there to back to back. World Series, ain't bad. All right, KFI AM 640.
