It's the news. And then there's Ann and her dark. You both need pearls because pearls go beautifully with black. I'm not a big fan of Pearl necklace. Ann's fan club just dipped. And now, Handel on the news. Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel.
And good morning. There we go. It's another day. It's Thursday, May 28th, as we're one day away from Friday, followed by Saturday. Okay, good for me. Very profound. Yeah, I figured that out all by myself. Good morning, Amy. Hi, Bill. All right. Cono, dressed as usual in his garb. Good morning. All right, fair enough. Neil, good morning. I'm dressed as well. Good morning. Good morning. And we've got, I don't know where Anne is. She usually is there in her seat, so she's running out someplace. Must have just changed the story or something. Yeah, she puts this thing together. And there's a lot of moving pieces in the morning because we change it up a lot, even at the last minute. Even mid-show, we do that. And then Will Coltryber. Good morning, sir. Good morning. Okay, you're wearing a t-shirt and it says ride the and then there's a happy face emoji. Do I have that right? It's ride the D. It's a, it's a subway extension. All right. I'm sorry. I thought it was ride the happy face emoji. Well, yeah. Okay. Right. Very enough. Oh, all right. Have you written the D yet, maybe?
you're always out and about it's true that's true i have not ridden the subway i see oh i've ridden it once and it was fun to see um the homeless people using it as an encampment. Although it's been a long time. I think the subway is doing pretty well right now. I don't know if it's making money or not. I know they're building... It used to be nice. I used to take it. We're not really big on... We're not really big on subways considering that I don't know how long we've been using or have been building our underground, as is it, say, in London. First one was in London, by the way. I think it was the 1870s, 1880s when the first subway was created. I'll tell you, being in New York is. fabulous because you can meet anybody, not, you know, not to worry about drinking and driving. You can get anywhere. 20 years across the whole city. 20 minutes. Boom. It just is, you know, can you imagine? You don't have a choice. The traffic in New York is bumper to bumper. Same here. Yeah. You know, it's funny. It's in L.A. If you say, hey, let's get together. You never do it. Because it's a painted ass park and everything in in New York. You say, let's get together. And they're like tonight, six. Done. Yeah, and you're right about New York. London, particularly because everybody rides the underground into the city. Well, they have an extraordinary system over there. As do major cities, Mexico City has an insane system, as does Tokyo, as does other major cities. We, not so much. We're just starting to really create a system. And that's because we are a car culture and have been. And do you know, do you remember the, well, I don't remember it, but the red line were these light rail cars, a light rail system that used to be it crisscrossed the city, and it was an extraordinary system of mass transportation. And it was killed by the Auto Club. The AAA wiped it out and pushed for legislation and pushed for shutting down. There are still tracks. that are there in various parts of the city. I mean, they go no place, of course. Yeah. Okay. So, yeah, we're going to be, we're a way, way, way, way away from having an extensive subway line. But okay. All right, let's do it. Now we've got plenty to cover. Oh, there's Ann. Good morning, Ann.
Good morning. There you are. Okay, we're all starting together. Whoa, what a day. Some news? Well, how unusual. Okay, let's do it. Handle on the News with Amy and Neil and me lead story. The ceasefire is really holding in the Mideast as Iran and the U.S. are trading strikes. They're hitting each other with... with weapons, and I think for the most part, it's drones. And Iran said that it targeted an American air base response to American targets, American targeted its various buildings and command centers, and called it a blatant violation of the shaky ceasefire between the countries and international law. The big news here is... The questioning of President Trump, as this thing moves further and further along, with no signed agreement and not war, but, you know, sort of very shaky, shaky ceasefire, which doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. And President Trump was asked, but about the midterms. Isn't this going to affect the midterms? And he said, I don't care about the midterms. As I said yesterday, the president is not moved politically because he is the president and doesn't care. And the Iranians are underestimating what President Trump is prepared to sustain. And the United States, Trump is underestimating Iran. How long they're going to last. And so, as I said, they're both underestimating each other. And the fallout on this one is this oil prices are going to go up. Gasoline is going to go up. Inflation is going to go up. And we move on. That's a lot of pot. Legal cannabis sales in California generated nearly $248 million in tax revenue during just the first three months of this year. Since California legalized recreational marijuana, which happened in January of 2018, the cannabis industry has generated more than $8.1 billion in state tax revenue. Not bad. Not bad. And if they lowered the prices of taxes, if they lowered the taxes, the argument is going to be they would get a lot more money. This is what Ronald Reagan did, is if you bring down the cost of doing business, there will be more business and more money coming into the state. And that's a lot of the argument because legalized purchasing and use of marijuana, recreational marijuana.
is about half of the sales with illegal being the other half. And that's a big deal. Have you been to one of these dispensaries, by the way? Have you seen them? I've never been in a dispensary. Yeah, look for a Ben and Jerry's ice cream store. And you will see tons of them. Some of the fancier ones look like a Ben and Jerry's. They have all these different choices. Yeah, they have them. Oh, yeah, those experts. Yeah. Could you be any more guilty? Oh, come on. No, it's good. It's just, it's still sad. It is very sad. You know what hit me? This is about Matthew Perry's trusted assistant getting prison. for his role in the actor's death. I didn't know this. We all hear about the ketamine queen, but there's at least five people that are. being investigated. They've already been sentenced. Yeah. Yeah. This is the last of them. Yeah. And this is a weird one. You know, how many people participated in this man's death? Well, a lot of them were distributors. A lot of them were purchasers. You had the ketamine queen. This one was a little weird, Kenneth Iwamasa, who actually injected him. You can't inject your own ketamine? I well he he was the assistant and and apparently you know they were close enough and trusted enough the guy made $150,000 a year working for Perry he pleaded guilty in August of 2024 to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death so he admitted to reportedly injecting Perry with ketamine without medical training, including multiple injections on October 28, 2023. And that's the day of Perry's death. But again, he can't, what, Perry couldn't do it himself. And the reason he's taken so long to be sentenced is that he flipped and became the state's main witness against all the other ones. And he would have gotten a whole lot more time, I think, had he not cooperated. The DOJ's coming after Carol, the Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll. Of course, she's the former magazine writer who accused then Donald J. Trump, now President Trump, of sexual assault. Investigation centers on whether she committed perjury in the civil lawsuit she filed against Trump. She won $5 million in a civil judgment. claiming that he had sexually abused and defamed her. She also won a more than $83 million civil judgment against him in another defamation case.
Now, this could be a legitimate investigation. I mean, it could be whether someone lied or didn't lie, especially if they have any kind of in proof. But I have a question. Has any Republican been investigated under the DOJ that you know of? That's a Trump enemy? For example, Tom Homan, who is the ICE czar. There is video of him money changing hands with an FBI informant or an FBI agent. Money changing hands, cash, like in paper bags, cash. And the question was asked of Pam Bondi when she was the attorney general. She said, oh, yeah, we looked and did it, but there was no evidence that we found. In the meantime, James Comey, enemy of Donald Trump. He was charged with threatening the president of the United States because those seashells that he took a photograph of on the beach said 86-47. 86 means getting rid of or it's no longer here. 47 means the president. That is a threat to his life. That's how crazy all of this is. As I said, and keep on saying, you do anything or say anything against the president, you are looking for a world of hurt with the DOJ. No, I'm sorry, I was about to say being weaponized. No, that's not true. It was the Biden administration that weaponized. What the administration doing is unweaponizing. the former Biden's views and Biden's actions, going after anybody who has said anything against him. It's just the gaslighting is insane. All right. We are in a period of what they call the 100 deadliest days. And this is a period of time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This happens to be a time when car crashes historically spike across the country, right? So according to Mercury Insurance, who puts this together, they say it's the longer days, sometimes increased travel, hot weather distractions. All these things contribute to more dangerous driving conditions in California. But as they look at five years, it shows that there's two major time slots. Overall data shows that this window of driving in California between 12 p.m. and 12, 10 p.m. is a peak crash time. But in Los Angeles and San Bernardino County, specifically, it's 3 p.m. to 3.10 p.m. So.
Wow. So I was wrong. I thought it was 3 p.m. to 309 instead of 3.10. No, sir. Okay. Well, it's in there. Just if you, I would leave at 315. Yeah, so I was off by a minute. Oh, okay, because that's where I thought it was. But yeah, pretty tight time, but pretty tight time. Those are stats. Stay away from those 10 minutes and you'll be okay. A bigger battle than politics, Pam Bondi says she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She says she's been going through treatment, including having surgery and is doing well. Her diagnosis reportedly came after she left the Justice Department. She was fired by President Trump as the Attorney General in April. That's tough. Thyroid cancer, but the good news with thyroid cancer, if you're going to have a cancer, the five-year survival rate is over 98%. It's one of the easiest cancers to cure. Yeah. If you're going to get it, that's what you want to get. As opposed to pancreatic cancer, where the five-year survival is under 5%, I think. All right, Trump administration has problems with the so-called protests and things going on in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention area there in New Jersey. So these are the way they're looking at this now is they're going to say, the feds are going to say, well, you know what? Maybe you shouldn't have international flights. We're going to pull our team. from there and you won't have international flights because we can't keep our people protected. So they say that they are looking into drawing up plans to stop processing international flights in sanctuary cities and allow this stuff. So no international flights. Well, L.A. is a sanctuary sanctuary city, is it not? Yeah. Which means no international flights coming into Los Angeles. Well, you can't have federal, you can't have flights like that without immigration. Sure you can. You can simply say there is no immigration and people come in and they don't have either a passport or they don't have legal papers as determined by the feds. They're turned around or the flights aren't even allowed in. That's my point. The feds are the ones who say. I mean, how insane is this? Sanctuary cities and they're the ones that are going to be precluded from having international flights come in. I mean, now we're hitting insanity again. What do you do with this? You had me that it's insane to have a sanctuary city.
Everything after that, I kind of blurred. It's insane to have sanctuary city. Yes. Okay, so you're okay with, you're okay with no, you're okay with no, you're okay with no international flights coming in. No, but what are you going to do? Everybody keeps playing back and forth with the local is messing with federal. Well, this is fed. This is controlled by the FAA. This is fed. They can say we're not letting anybody in because it's American airspace and we control American airspace. I mean, I just, I mean, I don't even know where you go with this. You know, I just am always stunned by what's going on. There's no stopping. There is no stopping any of this. Kind of like insider trading. A guy who worked at Google apparently made more than a million dollars by using inside information. To bet on Polly Market, which is a prediction market platform, that Google's most searched person for 2025 would be singer David. Of course, David's the singer's now been arrested after a dismembered body was found in the trunk of his Tesla last fall. But Michelle Spagnolo says these were sure bets. Google Software. gave him access to a company data list that tracked user searches. And the claim against him says that he misappropriated. I'm not sure if it's a guy or girl. Michelle, Michelle. It's a he or the story says it. It says it's the he, but it's spelled like a girl. Okay. Misappropriated confidential, valuable, non-public information from his employer and use that information to place a series of Google-related bets on polymarket. Yeah, this polymarket business is kind of weird. You can bet on anything. I mean, literally anything. It's just strange what people come up with online. And what made this the million dollars is that David would be, well, the odd maker said virtually zero odds that David would be the guy. And so he didn't bet very much, Spock Danielo. I think that's right. Didn't bet a lot, but made a fortune. And it's insider. It is insider trading. Why didn't he just have a friend or somebody that's not attached to him? Do it. Well, he had a really strange handle. And what was that? Something raccoon. And you're right. But they have a way of tracking this stuff down no matter what. And one thing about the feds is they do a good job with this stuff. So we couldn't like bet on how many times you flubbed something? Sure you can. During the show. Sure you can. But the odds, unfortunately, are the odds are 100 to 110. Ah, Roger that. Okay. Stan Cronky is, he built SoFi Stadium without public money. However, oh, how the times change. Now he wants some, and it's a pretty, pretty big number, like 400 million.
So he at this point is in a legal dispute over improvements made to the location and the whole facility property and the like surrounding areas. But those on his side cite a 2015 agreement with the city. Englewood, however, claims that the agreement was nixed by a court decision that made agreements adopted by voter initiative invalid. So they're going to go back and forth. Yeah. You know, there's a hearing set for Friday. Yeah, I'm doing this as 720 and you're right. It's a little wonky, but I'll try to dive into it and put it together. Definitely not Father of the Year material. Surveillance images have emerged that apparently show 40-year-old Ruben Gallego Fergoso and 5-year-old DeLesa Fergozo leaving a parking garage in San E. Cedro near the port of entry. They are believed to have crossed into Mexico. This is the guy who there was an Amber Alert issued earlier this week for the five-year-old girl. The guy apparently took her after killing the mother and drove off and now they say they think they're in Mexico. And he is a person of interest. I wonder how far, how interested do you think they are? Pretty interested, I would think. Yeah, it's a hell of a story. And then the only issue is, will the Mexican authorities find him? They will. And will the Mexican authorities extradite him. They will. And the only time they don't is if the death penalty is on the table and the state says there will be no death penalty. Because a lot of countries are saying, nope, you've got to take that off the table. So Gavin Newsom continues to find ways to be in the news. on the coattails of the president he has threatened to tax 100% of the money californians received from president trump's anti-weaponization fund for his political allies As stupid as Trump's fund is this. When is it going to stop, Handel? Never. When is Gavin Newsom going to stop with this silliness? So he can now just go ahead. It's not that silly. He probably has the ability under the franchise tax board, which is a California taxing authority to tax. and say it's going to be 100%. Wait a second. Are you saying that if a Republican got in the governor's office, he could tax people 100%. Yeah, and we certainly have the legislature. Yeah, absolutely. What is it going to stop?
You know, for example, well, let me ask you something that's going to stop. When you have an administration that says if you overrun the Capitol, even threatening and harming police officers, and you respond to that. Do you not respond to that? Do you simply say, okay? But I'm saying they're going to keep going back. They are. They're going to keep going back. And the governor is going to keep on fighting because the president is going to do everything he can to punish California. Here's the point. It's all prospective because then you go, well, if the president feels that the justice department was weaponized against him when he wasn't in office, what is he to do nothing? That's what's stupid about all this. And I hate January 6th. I think all of them should be strung up in the town square. Yeah, well, they can't because they've been pardoned. I get it. And now, and now the administration has established a fund, which is probably legal, to say you can claim. that you were treated unfairly that the weaponization happened and you have the ability to make a claim against the government for the harm the government did for you. Okay. Now what? By the way, there are all kinds of laws. For example, son of Sam laws that let's say you are convicted of some heinous murder, some heinous crime, and you try to sell your memoirs, the government says, you're not going to be able to do it. You can't. My point is this. If Trump does it, he opens up new possibilities, as you know, for other presidents to do it. And if the governor does it, he just opens it up for another wing nut to come. So let me ask you, does the government not, the governor not respond? Does Trump not respond? No, Trump doesn't respond. Trump starts. No, because it was weaponized against him. Oh, you're arguing it was weaponized. Okay, that's another argument. I'm not. I'm not. If you argue that was weaponized against him, then there's no place for us to go on this one because we can't even start the conversation. All right, let's move on. Can we skip to number 14? Oh, yeah, of course. Okay. This gives a whole new meaning to a car phone. The $640,000 Ferrari Luce. was unveiled on Wednesday. It's Ferrari's first ever all electric vehicle. It was built with the help of Joni Ive, the person who designed the look and feel of the iPhone, the iPod, and Macintosh through 2019. And some fans are furious. They say the new car looks more like an iPhone than an Italian supercar.
Yeah, they're trying something brand new. Of course, I think Ferrari missed the boat because right now EVs are, well, for a moment, they're pretty popular, but the whole EV market has effectively collapsed. But, you know, you've got a Ferrari, which is known for some of those powerful gas engines ever. And now it's going to be electric. Have you seen the Rolls-Royce SUV? No. How is that for ridiculous? How much does that cost? Like $900,000? About half a million dollars for an SUV. Do the Gorilla. Are you going to get one? Am I going to get one? Of course I'm going to get one. Yes. Ah, cool. Was that Lindsay? That was Lindsay, yeah. You are going to get one. Yeah, yeah. We're certainly going to get one. Can we just end on a happy note, baby gorilla delivered via rare C-section in a Seattle Zoo? So apparently there's only a handful of these. Fewer than a dozen C-sections have ever been performed on gorillas. And that's including Handel's birth. He was very hairy as a child. Actually, you know what? I was a C-section baby. So that makes sense. Well, I don't know if it counts. Your mom was screaming. Just cut him out of me. No, I don't think so. I don't think so. But it was, I was very hairy. And so that's where, and I looked like a gorilla when I was born. And when I had my circumcision, that's where the phrase gorillas in the bris comes from. Okay. Are we done? All right. You're smiling. That's good. I finally got you smiling on the door of funny. All right. We're done. All right. Now, California is banning cops from seizing election ballots. There's a story about an election ballot confiscation that is, you know, it's just crazy. Here we go again with crazy. And I'll come up with that coming right up. This is KFI AM 640.
