Those should be illegal. Going through toll booths, those toll routes, where they read your license plate, and if you don't pay or you don't have a prepaid card, you're screwed. And we start another day. The heat wave. I woke up this morning, didn't go outside. Amy, has the heat arrived? It has not arrived yet. We are under a heat advisory until 10 a.m. And then we do have an extreme heat warning that starts at 10. And it's going to be hot and muggy today. Okay. And so we, well, the East Coast is getting crazy. New York, 100 degrees and humid. And that's the other fun thing about the East Coast when it is hot as hell. And let's not forget the humidity. Oh, it's great. It brings out all the urine smell. Yeah. And let's not forget the bugs, the size of your fist that come out and fly around. It's just wonderful. This is when you want to move. That's why I can't stand the Rose Parade. Every year the Rose Parade is broadcast and is broadcast throughout the country, probably throughout the world. And it's here we are, 72 degrees, mostly during the Rose Parade. And people in upstate New York, January 1st, are freezing. It's 12 degrees below zero. There's snow up to the eaves of the house. And how many people decide, okay, we're moving to Southern California. Enough already. Didn't they used to call that the greatest commercial for Southern California? Oh, yeah. It's just, it is just God off. It rained on the parade last year. You rain on the parade every day. Wow. Okay. That was hard. Okay. We started. See, we started. Where are we? 607. Congratulations. I don't get that. If that went right past me, Neil. Well, I had to switch because I was originally going to say Peter Griffin, but I knew you wouldn't get that one. So I switched to Popeye, but also true. Didn't get either of those. And lastly and certainly possibly maybe sort of leastly, there's Ann. Good morning, Ann. Don't answer that man. Not even saying a word, nothing. She was just about to go topless for this show. And you've ruined it, Bill. Doing my part and nothing, nothing from you. I'll tell you the only person on the show that is that we, I would appreciate going topless, really topless is Michelle. Michelle, as you know, believe me, we've talked about this before. Michelle has gone public with this. I'm not shaming her. Michelle is Michelle, all right? And when she was on the show for 25 years as the producer, that often came up and she herself would, in fact, noted. And you know how we have promo pictures? We don't anymore. I mean, there used to be when everybody on the show had promo pictures. Neil, remember those days? Oh, yeah. Yeah, well, of course, those days are gone. And with Michelle, everybody had their picture, and it would say mornings, KFI, A.m. 640 and the Times. And for Michelle, all we had was a photo of the Grand Teton Mountains. And she would sign them. The photos. Yeah, she was not the Grand Teton's themselves. No. Oh, it's just. No. Yeah. Michelle has been blessed with very large Winnebago's. And she's very, and she is very proud of that, by the way. You know, she once flashed at an able Angels game and got thrown out immediately. Well, it covered first base. She was pretty drunk. Okay, enough of that. All right. A little bit of inside baseball. Ooh, inside baseball at an Angels game. Ooh. Hmm, very strong. I'm starting to sound like Amy now. Rest ball game. No, Amy does these great openings. I love these puns and statements. Amy, you're very, very good at those when you do a story on the news. Matter of fact, why don't we do stories on the news? It is time for our handle on the news with Amy, Neil, and me, lead story. Well, Strait of Hormuz has gotten a little bit straighter. The president says that the U.S. will become guardian of the strait. It's going to be under our control. And the way we're going to pay for the control, which of course has to be militarily, is the U.S. will charge a rate of 20% on all cargo shipped and reimbursed at that rate.

I don't know quite how they get 20%. Maybe it is the price of oil on the day that the Strait of Hormuz is passed or is used by these cargo ships. And certainly oil will be that you can charge because it's the value at that day and charge 20%. So you've got 2 million barrels. of oil typically on one of these giant tankers. And I saw a news story yesterday that would be $34 million per tanker. Now, what I don't know, other than oil, how do they determine 20% of the value of a cargo? Well, you know, widgets, you know, the price of widgets. I know, people are just going to say, oh, that one's empty. By the way, Bill, as a fellow punster, you missed a great opportunity at that headline. The world is not gay about the Strait of Hormuz. Oh, very strong. That's true. And don't look at me. Don't you dare. Yeah, yeah. Just saying. And so the United States that Pete Hegseth and others have said, we control the Strait of Hormuz. Well, Iran just said, we're stopping yet. That's it. We're closing it down. But wait a minute. We, the United States controls it. Nope. How about that? And Iran can and does close it. It is closed right now. I mean, the war is heating up. And price of oil has spiked 10% yesterday because of what's going on. All right. One more and then we'll take a break. Several states say they're trying to save the industry. Attorney General Rob Bonta is leading 12 states, including California, New York, Washington, with a lawsuit to block Paramount's $11 billion merger with Warner Brothers Discovery. The lawsuit says the deal would hurt movie theaters. It would damage the competitive market for distributing movies, including blockbusters that bring in a lot of money and a lot of money for the studios. The lawsuit also claims the deal would give the combined company anti-competitive power over the market for distributing basic TV channels like CNN. They say in the lawsuit, the merger will end competition permanently. Now, I'm going to do this story coming up at 7 o'clock, but my favorite response is Paramount saying, by us buying the Warner Discovery, that's going to increase competition. They actually said that. Taking a company in Burjian with another company is good for competition. Explain that one to me. Would you please? All right. Lindsey Graham, as we know, passed away and his sister. has been appointed to finish his Senate term. So Darlene Graham Nordone will finish out his Senate term after the death of Mr. Graham this past Saturday. She accepted the appointment saying that it would be a privilege to get to finish some of her brother's work over the next several months. Which is not untypical. She's a placeholder.

The election happens, well, the general in November, there'll be a snap election to see who is going to be the Republican nominee. And so it makes sense. And as we know, he died of a rupture or a terror in his aorta. because of high blood pressure and some other cardiovascular disease, which occasionally happens. And when you're aorticos, boy, that happens pretty quickly, say the least. I love the fact that Kash Patel is ordering the FBI to investigate. And my question is, how do the Democrats cause aortic tear? Can't wait for that one. Can you? I can do it? I'll punch you right in the heart. I don't think that pig valve right out of it. That doesn't cause an aortic tear. The way I do it, it does right that. I mean, it'll stop your heart. I'm going to knock that pig valve right out of your mouth. That you can do, but the old aortic tear, you know. The Russians know how to do it. They can do anything. Yeah. Stick you with the tip of an umbrella in your toast. That's true with, what is it, racing? Is that what it's called? Yeah. Okay. Pete's trying to plug those leaks. The Department of Defense and the Justice Department have created a joint task force to identify and prosecute individuals who are sharing sensitive information with the media. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the new task force will help the Pentagon investigate leaks more quickly and thoroughly. And anyone who improperly shares that confidential or classified information, as he put it, will be met with the full force of the law. He said leaked information risks lives. Already on the books, it is a crime to leak information. Yeah, but it still happens. Oh, it'll always happen, of course. I mean, they're trying to get more, trying to figure out how to strengthen the security. The big thing is the investigation of Air Force One and how the president had to fly back from Europe on the old Air Force One. And somehow when that leaked, that became a national security issue. Maybe it does say that the new Air Force One doesn't have the security features. I guess you could argue that. Anyway, oh, good luck, by the way, when they hauled reporters in. Where did you get your information? Oh, that's going to happen. Back to court. President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the IRS over his leaked tax returns was filed for an improper purpose. You'll have to explain that. A judge said Monday, as she referred one of his lawyers. for potential disciplinary action and characterize the $10 billion complaint as an exercise in self-dealing. So the judge did stop short of explicitly voiding the deal shielding Trump.

from tax scrutiny, but said that the government cannot claim in official proceedings that the agreement was the result of a legitimate legal process. Yeah, a couple of things about that. First of all, this is a lower judge and district court judge. So of course, it's going to be appealed. Second of all, the judge said, wait a minute, you file a lawsuit. You are the president. You file a lawsuit against the IRS of which you control. And the deal is cut, which the IRS does not argue the other side at all. Sure, we'll give you what you demand, that you and your family or your businesses cannot be audited at all up to now. And I don't know if the $10 billion was that, they walk away from that, Amy, already. And then this fund, of course, the $1.76 billion fund. Well, they've walked away from that fund, the $1.776 billion fund. And they said, fine, we're not going to try to reimburse people. Okay. And how about that $10 billion to pay the president? Is that still up in the air? Well, that was the complaint. He was suing for that and they settled it. No, I understand. Did they settle it for the $10 billion? Or is it just the $1.8 billion that was removed and is the only thing left the non-prosecution settlement? And you can't settle with yourself. That's what the court said. One of the rules of the court, you have to have a legitimate adversarial relationship. You can't have both people walk into court and sue and have everybody agree. That's called a settlement. Right. So the settlement was that he dropped the $10 billion lawsuit in exchange for the $1.776 billion fund and. The tax protections. Yeah, I was conflating them. That's correct. And the court said, you can't do that. You sue yourself. You agree to this fund with yourself. And it's, no, you can't do that. Wouldn't be great if you control the IRS? And you sue and then the IRS says, I'll tell you what, we'll settle that we're never going to audit you, but we'll let you take money out of the federal coffers. But you're the president. You control that money. Exactly. So the court said, well, who didn't think this was self-dealing? Of course it was self-dealing on its face. I mean, they didn't pretend it wasn't self-dealing. And, of course, the government said okay because Trump said okay to his demand. All right. May have been mistaken identity, but an immigration and customs enforcement agent in Maine has shot and killed a man in his car on Monday. The Department of Homeland Security said that the man was in the country illegally and attempted to flee the scene when an ICE agent tried to stop him in Biddeford, Maine, early yesterday morning.

They said that he was shot because the officer feared for public safety. Yeah, that he had weaponized his car, which I'm assuming is he was trying to run over people. And at first, the statement was that he was the target of the chase or target of the operation. And then they came back 12 hours later and said, no, no, he wasn't the target. I think ICE is going to be in a lot of trouble on this. Amy, have we? And no body camps. No, they did not have body camps. And it turns out that the man killed was a Colombian man who was here legally. They were going after somebody. that they said had the last known address of an illegal alien with a final order for removal. So they might have just gone after the wrong person. Yeah, I think that's a given. Now the question is taking the car and weaponizing yet. Was he trying to run over people? Was he targeting ice agents or someone else? And I haven't seen video of it yet. Cono says. Kono just said in my ear that there is video footage from a security camera somewhere in the vicinity apparently, but I've not seen it either. So we're going to see. We're going to see. Remember the two incidents that happened, one with that woman and I think it was Minneapolis and one with that man who were shot. And they came out and talked about weaponization and he pulled out a gun. And he had a gun, but he never pulled it out. And it's crazy. ICE is not doing themselves any favor. This used to be a strong point for the president, ICE. Now it has gone the other way.

Yeah, it's strange thing is Mexico came out and was pissed and now he's Colombian. So does Mexico just stand down at this point? No, I think they continue to be angry. Oh, the Texas guy. Got it. Thanks, Kono. All right, this is disgusting, if true, Pasadena Luxury Hotel Corporation. Langham Hotel's Pacific. I love the Langham. Oh, yeah. This is a serious upper crust hotel. Lovely, but they're being accused. Oh, well, I guess they're guilty at this point if they've got to pay. They've settled. They did not admit guilt. Gotcha. Okay. They never admit guilt ever. For $320,000, they settled the lawsuit alleging unfairly raised prices on guests in the wake of the Eaton fire last year. Now, the company didn't admit any wrongdoing here about that settlement, as Bill and Amy said. But we do have a law here in California. It says you can't. add more than 10% from your normal posted rates during any sort of natural disaster. This could be for water. This could be for a hotel. This could be for anything. And they said, quick. We're pointed out that they did it. A quick word about not admitting guilt. They have to not admit guilt because once they admit guilt, then anybody suing them outside of the government. Let's say you have an individual who alleges that he or she was overcharged. You have the organization say, yeah, we're guilty of it. Case is over. It's done. Now it's just how much money. So you can see how they can't admit guilt because it's over for them with any lawsuit because the first thing you put on the stand is an executive for Blangham. Didn't you admit that you did this? How do you have any argument against that? That's why they don't. That's why they don't admit to wrongdoing. I'm trying to find out how much they are. Yeah, how much they're alleged to have increased rates because 10% is that threshold. But, I mean, did they raise rates by 50%? Like, we just had a guy convicted for raising rentals 40% after the fires. Now, people stay at the Langham, depending on that people have a lot of money who stay at the Langham. It is a very pricey hotel. There's a Langham in London, for example, where it's $1,000 a night. So it's, you know, people have that kind of money. Do they care? I don't know.

I don't stay at a thousand dollar night hotel rooms. Had some shaking near the San Andreas fault. Back-to-back earthquakes rumbled north of L.A. Two of California's most significant faults were shaking, including the San Andreas. A magnitude 4.1 hit at 3.38 a.m. Sunday just outside Fraser Park. That's near the grapevine. Then a magnitude 4.3. Hit at 9.40 a.m. yesterday. The epicenter was in the Mojave Desert. Week shaking was felt as far away as Los Angeles, Victorville, and Santa Clarita, San Fernando, and San Gabriel Valleys. The Frazier earthquake, according to the USGS, was probably on the San Andreas. We're so due for a major quake here in Southern California along the San Andreas Fall. This is the Teutonic plates that meet. And when they sort of slip past each other, there comes the earthquake. And it ain't fun. We've had some good ones and we're going to, yeah, we're way overdue for the big one. How come I've been hearing this since I was in grade school? Because it's still way overdue. Geologically, it's just a moment in time. Hmm. That's profound. Yeah, that is profound. So is handles gas. That's all right. All right. Thank you for that. So people are betting against Trump, at least the market is oil surges most since 2020, but they're looking at. The US government stockpile of crude has been drawn down to its lowest level since 1983 and this renewed fight. Fighting with Trump and the Strait of Hormuz has pushed crude futures up. So people are looking, obviously, in the future of what's going on. And this fight going on with Trump's announcement that he is reimposing the U.S. blockade and Iranian ships and all of that and saying he's going to bob the hell out of them, obviously makes people nervous. And the price go up. That's what happens. The United States is saying the straight of Hormuz, we control it. Iran says, oh, yeah. Straight of America, Bill. Straight of America. Yeah, the straight of America. It's the Trump. Keep in mind. That's straight of Trump. Yeah, it's true. And so we're, the war is happening. Well, UC and the SATs are not getting back together. University of California Admissions Board has voted to rescind efforts to reconsider whether to resume SAT and ACT requirements for admissions. Remember, they pulled them a few years ago. I think it was during the pandemic. But on a meeting or at a meeting on Friday, the board said, no, let's not reconsider that right now. And then all of the links on their website explaining what they're planning to do disappeared.

And why is this so controversial? Because the argument is the SAT and the written and the multiple choice is skewed against people of color. How? Do you know, it doesn't say, it doesn't say, when I took the, when I took the bar, exactly the same argument, because a number of African Americans who passed the bar was minuscule. Number of people who took the bar was minuscule. And the argument was to rewrite the bar. That lasted 30 seconds where the bar folks, the state bar, said, oh, no, you're dreaming. We're not going to do that. And I think you're saying the same thing, except the UC system is caving. And I don't know, I have no idea how the bar can be rewritten in terms of viewing it as one color or another. Or poor people have a rougher time with the bar. Yeah, poor people have a rougher time with any academic endeavor because they don't have tutors, because they don't get the same education because inner city schools aren't as good, they don't test as well. So, you know, you can't even out the playing field without going communist, which everybody gets the same education. Everybody makes the same money. The state owns everything and you work for the state. What about beneficial? reparations. How come the instead, everybody always goes straight to money. Why not education? Why not free education? Oh, there's an argument there too. It's a huge argument. I think, I think that should have been a no brain or bring it up. If you've been pushed behind, then push forward. Now, let me ask you, do you still believe that people of minority are pushed behind? in education and the, let's say the work, the work world, I would argue it's the other way to even it out that's been going on. All right, let's go ahead and finish it up. The Paramount Deal, we're going to talk about it's the biggest deal that ever was in the world of the deals. That worked? Maybe. There was. There was.
