18 segmentsI'm Ed Donahue with an AP News Minute. The Supreme Court has upheld a broad conception of birthright citizenship, rejecting President Trump's executive order that declared children born to parents who are in the U.S. illegally or temporarily are not American citizens. In the House, Grace Meng, chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, says the ruling sends a clear message to President Trump. You may try to redefine what it means to be an American and you will fail. We are American.
We belong here. And no wannabe king will ever take that away from us. Speaker Mike Johnson sides with the president. It's one of those things that was intended to serve a noble, important purpose, and has been thwarted and overused and abused. And so I'm sure that we'll continue to look at that. I mean, I'm sure the conclusion from this opinion is going to be that you've got to have a, you've got to amend the Constitution to fix that.
The ruling sticks to the interpretation of the 14th Amendment. Donahue.
