Fmr. Nat'l Security Advisor Plea Deal, New Epstein Orbit Allegations, Missing American in Japan and more

Hey there from CNN on David Rind with the five things you need to know for Thursday, June 4th. John Bolton is expected to plead guilty over mishandling sensitive national security information. That's according to three sources familiar with the matter. John Bolton was President Donald Trump's national security advisor during his first term. But their relationship has really soured since then, and Trump has made no secret that he'd like to see him prosecuted. CNN's Caitlin Polance has more. What he's alleged to have done here is taken documents or taken notes of documents or briefings he was being given as National Security Advisor in the First Trump White House and then emailing them to himself, almost as if it were a diary entry and then printing them out, allegedly, and keeping them in his home after he was fired as National Security Advisor in the First Trump administration. He then wrote a memoir and his home was searched.

When his home was searched last August by the FBI, they found multiple electronics and documents with information labeled secret or confidential or classified. Not necessarily the documents themselves, potentially, but he at very least had these diary-like entries. And so his initial case that was charged for 18 counts, he's going to be pleading down to one count. According to one source, he has also agreed to pay more than a $2 million fine. A conviction on one count of illegal retention of sensitive national security documents could land him up to 60 months in prison. So that time of year again, when the Supreme Court is racing to finish its turn before the end of the month, the high court has a lot on its plate. The nearly two dozen cases left to decide could direct. directly shaped the rest of President Trump's second term. CNN's John Fritzy is here. He covers the court. John, what are some of these cases? So, David, the Supreme Court is about to decide a couple of dozen of its biggest cases of the year this month. And one of the big themes is that an awful lot of them involve President Donald Trump.

That includes issues like the president's push to limit birthright citizenship, expand his power to fire independent officials, revoke deportation protections. the court, meanwhile, is also weighing major Second Amendment cases and election-related disputes that could factor into this year's midterm. The key question for this final month of the term is, will this conservative court expand presidential authority or tell Trump no on some of these issues? If it seems unclear to you where peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran stand, you're not alone. Both sides have sent mixed messages about the status of fragile ceasefire talks, even as

continue to engage in hostile fire. Last night at the White House, President Trump claimed to deal with Tehran could come together over the weekend. But Iran's foreign minister told the Arab media outlet Al-Mayadin, quote, that there is no formal negotiation process underway with the United States. Earlier, he also declared that a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. That's important because Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters launched attacks just hours

after Israel and Lebanon announced a renewed U.S. brokerate agreement, that's according to local media reports. That ceasefire deal calls for a, quote, complete cessation of Hezbollah fire. Notably, Hezbollah did not participate in the negotiations and has yet to respond. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer and other Republican lawmakers are asking the Justice Department to investigate new allegations made by Jeffrey Epstein's longtime assistant. That's according to a letter provided to CNN. According to a newly released transcript of a closed door interview, the assistant Sarah Kellyn accused celebrity hairstylist Frederic Fekkeye and former Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine of sexually assaulting her in separate incidents

in the early 2000s. She also alleged that fashion photographer Patrick de Marcia Leigh exposed himself to her. None of the men had been charged with any crimes in connection with Epstein. A spokesperson for Fekai said he never took advantage of Kellan and a spokesperson for Levine said he had one intimate encounter with her but it was consensual and any assumption otherwise is not true. CNN has attempted to reach representatives of DeMarshal A, who died in 2022. Kellan is a controversial figure in Epstein's orbit because she was listed as a potential co-conspirator back in 2007.
