Nigel Show. Yeah, my name is Nigel, Jason Hammer, right over there. Go straight to the hotline and bring on Indiana Senator Jim Banks. Senator, thanks for coming back on the show. Take us to the Senate floor earlier this week. You talked about the murder of the young man in the parking garage downtown on his way to meet his family at the Indians game. Just maybe take us through your message to your constituents about the crime in Indy earlier this week. Well, you guys know I live in a small town near Fort Wayne and northern Indiana, but what goes on in our capital city matters to the whole state. My wife is from Indianapolis, by the way, and I served in the state legislature. I spent a lot of time in downtown Indianapolis. Indy is a great city, and people from all over the country, all over the world, come to downtown Indianapolis for conventions, for major sporting events. You have great American businesses like Eli Lilly in downtown Fort Wayne, or downtown Indianapolis, the NCAA headquartered there. It's a great city, but guys, you guys, you guys hear it as much as I do. People are fleeing downtown Indy because of crime and because you guys have a prosecutor in Marion County. who does not enforce law and order. When criminals, when violent criminals are arrested by our brave heroes in blue, the Indianapolis Police Department, they're released because Ryan Mears doesn't prosecute violent crime. And if you create an environment like that where you ignore, where you ignore crime and where you let these criminals lose and give them a slap on the... on the wrist when they do something wrong, then you're just, you're, you're, you're incentivizing it. And this story last week about, um, this young man, Brett, uh, Scragum, um, this guy is a, is a great young man. I've heard so many good things about him. Just graduated Kelly School of Business at IU, a great Christian young man who loved his family, all of his neighbors and friends say such great things about him. You read about this story, and by the way, we still don't have a murder suspect at least. As of the last time I checked, they haven't arrested anybody yet, but we can speculate that this is a product of a lawless community. By the way, the mayor completely turns a blind eye to all of this, too. I know a lot of people blame the prosecutor, but the mayor put out a statement on Monday. I just got back to Washington on Monday. I was reading the mayor's statement. He doesn't even mention Brett's name, which is why. I quickly went down to the floor of the United States Senate. As soon as I got back in town, I gave a speech about Brett, what he meant to so many people, but also about what happens when you don't enforce the law, when you don't throw criminals behind bars. When there are no consequences for violent crime, then obviously you're going to see more violent crime. And that concerns me as a Hoosier.
I hear from so many people who live in Indy who are concerned about this. You know, Mayor Sue Fincom, she's been screaming about this until she's blue in the face because Carmel and Hamilton County and all the Donut County communities, they see the result of violent crime coming out of Indianapolis because nobody's doing anything about it. And then they got to deal with it in Carmel. So that's why I gave the speech that I did. I back our blue. I support our law enforcement officers, our police officers, especially the Indianapolis police officers, who I hear from all the time, who are saying, we're doing our job, but the prosecutor's not doing his job, and it's demoralizing for them. So I want to speak out on this more and talk about what's going on in Indianapolis, which is a great city, a great American city, but these guys are ruining it. Right. And, Senator, I'm so glad to hear you say that at a national stage, like on the floor at the U.S. Senate, because you're right, we on this program have been talking about this. What's frustrating is, number one, It feels like this is what Marion County votes for, unfortunately. It's so blue. People will just go and vote straight ticket. And that's how you keep getting stuck with Joe Hogsett and Ryan Mears. So my question to you is, what can be done for people like myself, my wife, my kids that live here in Marion County? We want this to be a safer community. Is it legislation that has to circumvent some of these woke lunatics? What can we do? I protect your family. You've got to make decisions about what's best for your family. And I hear this from so many people who I respect to love Indianapolis. They've lived there all of their life or they've moved there because 10, 20 years ago, it was a great city that cracked down on crime. And now they see what's going on and they're leaving Indianapolis. So if everyone who cares leaves, then what you're left with are voters who don't care and continue to vote for Ryan Mears. and Mayor Hawkes said who aren't going to do anything about it. So I really like this state representative, Andrew Ireland, who's been thinking about this. He comes from Marion County. He's a young up-and-coming state representative, and he's been talking a lot about what the state legislature can do to crack down on prosecutors who don't do their job, rogue prosecutors like Ryan Mears. And pay attention to what... State Representative Andrew Ireland comes up with as legislative proposals that he introduces at the State House because I think he's got some really good ideas to do something about this. Something that I want to focus on at the federal level, though, is the string of campaign donations and dollars that go into these George Soros. groups, tied groups that are funded by him and some of these other left-wing lunatic billionaire donors who go out and help candidates like Ryan Mears get elected who turn a blind eye. I mean, they're funded because they're backed by ideological donors who want, who have a soft on crime, anti-police, defund the police.
agenda. And that's something I think at the federal level we can expose. You just mentioned speaking on the Senate floor. I had a prominent Democrat approached me on the Senate floor yesterday who heard me give the speech. And she said, and she's familiar with, very familiar with Indiana, what's going on in Indianapolis? I heard you talking about this young man. What's going on there? So I think there are sensible Democrats out there, and there are a whole lot of Republicans out there, and just a lot of common sense people, especially common sense Hoosiers, they're saying something's got to change in our capital city because they're, these guys, Ryan Mears and Joe Hogsett that are ruining Indianapolis. It shouldn't be that way. And the thing that frustrates so many people is that, you know, Ryan Mears, he'll get his undies in a twist when Sue Finkum of Carmel says something, but you never hear from him when stuff like this happens. Senator, last thing here before we let you go, we want to be respectful of your time. We've got a big... Secretary of State race taking place here, and it's going to come down to the delegates. Originally, I believe you were on board with the incumbent Diego Morales, but that's changed. Walk me through your decision in changing your mind there. We have 1,800 Republican delegates from every county in the state coming to Fort Wayne, my backyard for the state convention in a couple of weeks. And, you know, what's changed, guys, is that a... an exceptional candidate step forward, Max Engling, who works for me, who has great experience. He's going to be, he's going to step into the job of being Secretary of State on day one and do a phenomenal job. And I fully back him, I'm doing everything I can to help him. And the incumbent who I know, Diego, he's over the years, he's worked hard, he's done some good things, but he's also made some mistakes. those mistakes have caught up with them. And I think we need a strong candidate, which we now have in Max Singling. And by the way, he's working really hard. He's talking to delegates all over the state. And I have a very optimistic, positive outlook that this convention is going to vote for Max Engeling in a couple of weeks in a big way. But we have to have a candidate guys who can win in November, not a candidate who has so much baggage that they're going to lose. but a candidate who can raise the money. There's another candidate in the race who's raised like $200. And then Diego's raised money, but he's got some baggage that's going to harm his ability to win. Max Angling doesn't have the baggage. He has the record, the experience. The background to be the Secretary of State is going to work really hard as a candidate. I think this matters so much as you look around the country at what Democrat, blue states are doing to rig elections, what they do to allow, in some places to allow illegals to vote with loose election laws, what some states are moving to and rank choice voting, which dilutes your vote, takes your vote away from you, like the state of Alaska.
has done, the ranked choice voting or so-called independent redistricting commissions that end up being Democrat ploys to take over the redistricting efforts. I mean, there are all kinds of things that Democrats do to manipulate. election law and we can't we can't allow uh uh the fox in the in the hen house to take over the secretary state's office because we know what democrats would do if they win the secretary state's office and we need safe secure elections keep illegals out of voting in our elections max ingling is the best candidate to do to not only do that be a great secretary of state but he's the candidate who can win in november for republicans Indiana Senator Jim Banks.
