Four cases. are left for the justices to decide, including birthright citizenship and men trying to play women's sports. A mixed day for the Trump administration with Monday's rulings. The court did uphold a Mississippi law that allows mail-in ballots that arrive after election day to be counted. The mail-in ballot ruling, which was a little bit surprising, gives people more time to vote illegally, let's say. But the SAVE Act is even more important. The president reacting there, the justices also blocked Trump from removing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, but did say that Trump can fire members of other federal agencies without cause, even with those losses. The left continues to talk about packing the Supreme Court if they ever get back into power.

Michael Teelen is the head of the Republican National Lawyers Association. This would make the Supreme Court a super legislature. So it would overrule both Congress and the White House. It's an uphill fight and we need to call out how outrageous this actually is. He's trying to get the word out that this can happen. It would really destroy the three powers of government and the three divisions of government. So it's a very serious thing. That's why I'm hoping that we need to really publicize this and we really need to fight this. And he says it would mean more Ketanji Brown Jackson's. Jeff Andy Biggs News Radio 740, KTRA.R. Closer to home, the Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocks a Harris County program that provided a million dollars in taxpayer money to defend illegal aliens. Of course, county Democrats are going to fight this. This is exactly the kinds of things socialists or communists get involved with. Hopefully they won't, but I expect there'll be large sums of money spent just to defend something that's not defensible. Precinct 3 Republican Tom Ramsey says even if the program was legal, the county doesn't have the money for it. He'll join us at 720. The driver of a commercial truck is arrested in the death of Montgomery County Deputy Erica Serrato. Ian Perez is charged with failing to slow down or move over for emergency vehicles. Now, a different driver faces a DWI charge for causing the accident. That Serato was working in the first place. It's now 504 voters in Colorado. Head to the polls today for primaries with yet another socialist candidate on the ballot. Her name is Milot Caros, and she's running for Congress. She also claims that 9-11 was her word, inevitable. Inevitable in the sense that we... destabilized a lot of the Middle East that forced people to believe that another act of violence was the only response. Yeah, that was Keros on 9 News in Colorado. She also called the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas by that same term, inevitable. Radical Democrats are getting a cash infusion from a super familiar source. Leftist billionaire George Soros and his son Alex are pouring well over $100 million into the midterm elections to elect far-left candidates. Tarleton State Political Science Professor Bo Cabala says this funding has a specific purpose. The Soros money comes with strings attached. You look at some of the Democratic socialists that are beating, let's be clear, not conservative Democrats, but progressive Democrats. The radicalism here makes you think something is going on. And it's likely to get even worse. One political expert said, as Alex Soros wants to be more political than his dad. Corey Olson, News Radio 740, KTRH. A warning for Republicans who think the socialist revolution is something that just won't really happen. The battle is far from over.

They are taking over, taking advantage of the Democratic Party's, infrastructures, the system, the voter base, and they are on their march to power. That's like safe history repeats itself. And we all see this happen in other countries. Ellen Raleigh of the Federalist says the GOP can use this as an opportunity if they play their cards right. It's 505. Talks are scheduled to take place between the U.S. and Iran in Qatar today. They are supposed to be technical talks about the memorandum of understanding. And Trump says there's actually quite a bit on the agenda. Adding to the high-stakes nature of the deal, Israel, which is not part of the MOU, says it could be at war with Iran within two days. Anita Vogel reporting Iran claims its delegation will be there, but not for talks with the U.S., but for a meeting with Qatari mediators. Oil at $70.92 a barrel while gasoline drops another two cents across Houston to $3.36. The president is demanding that gas stations lower their prices and has renewed his push for $250 a gallon gas. That's mostly for consumer consumption, if that's not redundant. Tim Snyder of Madador Economics says refineries bought oil at $90 a barrel last month. And that's what you're filling up with today. I'll tell you, 508 is our time here in Houston's morning news. Actually, any weather, any part in the state of Texas is wild weather. In fact, we ranked number one on this list of the most weather-missible states in America. Not sure who ranked this, but let's share the information and see what you think. It says weather in the United States doesn't mess around. Across 50 states, you'll find nearly every flavor of atmospheric misery imaginable, tornadoes, the flattened neighborhoods in minutes, hurricanes, the reshaped coastlines, winter so brutal they can cause frost by noon under five minutes, and heat so relentless that stepping outside feels generally dangerous. No single worst state for weather, but there are clear contenders, and the gaps between them are wider than most people realize. So here's the states. They rank them in order. Number one, Texas, the undisputed champion of chaos. That's what it says. Texas logs more than 155 tornadoes a year. Has racked up $190 billion weather disaster since 1980 and is the only state in the country where planners have to prepare for tornadoes, hurricanes, hailstorms, wildfires, droughts, and flash flooding in the same calendar year. No other state comes close to that range of hazards. It is a uniquely exhausting weather profile. In early 2026, North Texas was hit with severe hailstorms, followed by extreme rainfall and flooding in the south. With the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro receiving up to golf ball-sized hail and portions of the Rio Grande Valley seeing 15 inches of rain in under 48 hours, prompting multiple flashflow emergencies. That kind of event is not a once-a-decade anomaly in Texas. It's practically a spring tradition. So we rank number one, followed by Florida. You know, pretty similar climate there. I don't know why the Supreme Court works the way it does. We just hang it on, waiting for the decisions to come down. We had a couple yesterday. Here's the report on those decisions from News Nation. A five to four decision here authored by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, one of Donald Trump's appointees to the Supreme Court. She is joining Chief Justice John Roberts and the three liberal justices today to vote that these 14 states that allow a grace period and accept mail ballots after election day, they can continue to keep doing that. The key issue in this case had been a federal law that says the Tuesday after the first Monday in November is the day of the election. So the question became, does that block states from continuing to accept mail ballots for one day, five days, or in some states, even more after polls close? I'm just going to read you here the majority opinion from Amy Coney Barrett saying, quote, the election day statutes say nothing about ballot receipt. Meanwhile, we do have four conservative justices in dissent, this being justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, the four of them, citing with the Republican National Committee and President Trump agreeing that federal law does prohibit those practices, but they didn't get a majority so these states can keep counting those late arriving mall. ballots, Laura. And Zach, there were also two decisions focusing on the president's ability to shape independent government agencies as he sees in the future or she may see fit. So, you know, this is a big change from how government has operated for nearly 100 years. What more can you tell us on that front?

That's right. I'll start with the first case, the slaughter case, this specifically involved President Trump's firing at the Federal Trade Commission, but this is going to be a decision that impacts all independent agencies across the executive branch. The Supreme Court today overruling 91 years of precedent that has allowed Congress to insulate certain executive branch officials with firing protections. This is a six to three decision along ideological lines, the conservative majority, agreeing with President Trump that under the separation of powers, has inherent constitutional authority to fire FTC members and more than a dozen independent agencies across the executive branch. But there's one agency that has been in a different bucket. And that is the Federal Reserve. And we also got a decision on that as well. Because even as the president says he can fire leaders at other agencies for almost any reason, he hasn't tried to make that argument at the Fed. The Supreme Court has signaled those firing protections still might be okay. But we're not going to get that answer today. The Supreme Court's ruling at the Fed is all about process. And a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruling that Lisa Cook, that Federal Reserve Governor who the president tried to fire, she didn't get enough process, so she gets to remain in her job at least after. as of now, but this is not a final decision on those Federal Reserve firing protections. This case will now go back to a lower court. Okay, but does it ultimately end up at the Supreme Court again? Let's say she's convicted of something. Like mortgage fraud is what she was accused of. That's why he wanted to fire was the most, well, that's one of the reasons I'm sure he had others as well, but the whole mortgage fraud thing. So he can fire somebody at the FTC or any independent agency. They're at will employees. He can fire them at any time for any reason. But because the Fed is an independent agency, it's separate from the government. He can't do it in that particular case. But the big ruling yesterday is the mail-in ballot question, where 13 states will continue to be able to accept mail-in ballots after Election Day and continue to count those votes, which, of course, can lead to potential cheating problems. My guess is this makes the Save America Act that much more important to the president. 526 right now. Time to take a look at your money. Good morning gasoline prices continue to drop as the summer travel season heats up. According to AAA, the average price for unleaded has now fallen to $3.85 a gallon. That's a drop of about 12% over the last month. The average price in Texas is $3.30 a gallon. A record number of Americans are expected to travel for the holiday week. I'm Courtney Donahoe. We don't want them to have a nuclear weapon, and they're not going to have a nuclear weapon. President Trump at the Oval Office yesterday. Now, Iran claims they're not going to meet with us, that they're just there for a sit down with mediators from Qatar, although we have our A team in terms of negotiators there. This, after the two-size exchange, strikes last week because Iran targeted ships in the strait of Hormuz. Oil futures at nearly $71 a barrel while overnight futures are up across the board this morning after more gains. on Wall Street yesterday. There's the fighting in the Middle East, and then there's the competition between the U.S. and China over AI. It's about to reach a whole new level. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Robert McGinnis tells KTRH China is building an AI war machine. His words, putting everything at stake. AI is embedded in all of our infrastructure. Anything that is tethered to the internet or electronically, it can be either shut down, destroyed, or controlled externally for the purposes of those that control it. He says that's why we need data centers, including right here in Texas. Now, multiple studies, including one from the Washington Post and the Media Research Center, show that top AI models like chat GPT.

are of liberal bias. That also includes the chatbot Claude. While AI provides instant relief or gratification that you can ask a question and that you will get an answer within mere moments, it should not be taken as a sign of accuracy. Curtis Halk with Newsbuster says the bias is the result of the fact that AI is trained off of woke sources like the mainstream media. Other political news, the U.S. Supreme Court set to hand down more rulings this morning. It's not just birthright citizenship that we're waiting on either. The Supreme Court will decide whether Idaho and West Virginia's law is preventing transgender athletes from participating in girls and women's school sports teams can stand. Two transgender athletes allege the measures are unconstitutional and violate Title IX, a federal law which prohibits sex discrimination in education. State officials argue athletes who are born male have a biological advantage over females on the playing field. The court's ruling is expected to impact similar laws in more than two dozen Republican-led states. That's Kristen Goodwin reporting. The High Court upheld a Mississippi law on early ballots that Republicans were trying to strike down, or rather mail-in ballots, excuse me. And it prevented President Trump from firing Fed Governor Lisa Cook while allowing him to remove other members of federal agencies without cause. More on this. It's six. 534 Fulshare police are testing new drone first responder technology, a new program there. The drones developed by the controversial. Flock Safety Company. According to Folcher PD officials, the drones are essentially just flying body cams. We don't watch top signs. We don't look for speeders with it. That's not what it's there for. It's there to go out and assist the officers, get information so we can do our job better. Lieutenant William Henry heads up the program and says it will be a major force multiplier for Folshire PD. So the whole point of the program is work smarter, not harder, so we can fly it there, get information back to the officers so they know what they're showing up to. He also noted that the drones don't record unless they have a reason and record. recordings are stored safely with body cam footage. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. In Austin, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is called an interim state hearing to look at the negative health impacts of THC. The Fasio of the Texas Cannabis Policy Center says the hearing is propaganda. The real question should be an open and honest discussion about the impact of THC on individuals, but also the impact of prohibition on our state.

538 our time here on Houston's Morning News. A little follow up to a story that we did yesterday in the show. In involving a Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff who was killed by a truck driver following a DWI accident. The DWI didn't involve the truck driver. This was after that collision occurred. I heard something along the line up to 13 different vehicles were involved with that. That seems kind of... wild that that many would be involved that early in the morning. But the whole thing began with a guy who was driving while intoxicated, who caused a traffic accident. He's in jail, arrested, obviously, for what he did. Then you have the deputies who are trying to direct traffic around the wreck, and this truck driver, who evidently was not paying attention, rammed into the back end of the... deputy's car where she was standing and she was killed um she'd been like with a force for like six years she was only like 24 years old so she started when she was 18 well the commercial it's a commercial truck driver as it turns out he's 20 years old which seems relatively young for a commercial truck driver i have no idea who he was driving for but he's been charged with violating the state's move over slow down law and I'm guessing there may be other charges that will come along with it, but so far that's what he's been charged with. His name is Ian Perez. Charge with passing certain vehicle violations with bodily injury, which is a charge associated with a violation of the state of Texas move over, slowdown law. Charge typically used when the driver fails to move over or slow down when approaching certain stopped vehicles displaying emergency or warning lights, such as police, fire, ambulance, tow trucks, textile vehicles, or utility service vehicles, and that violation leads to another person being injured, or in this case being killed. So I'm thinking that the charge could ultimately end up being upgraded. The other part is, and I, again, I'm not suggesting I'm not an attorney, but I would not be surprised if this is a commercial truck driver that whatever company he was working for may end up at the other end of a lawsuit. As relates to the death of the deputy, at least that would not surprise me much. 540, time for traffic and weathered together. Yes, you've discovered something. It's a ramp thing. The price of gas there has dropped 20 cents in the last three days. 20 cents. So when people say, I don't think the price of gas is coming down fast enough. Well, it's because we'd all like it to be back around 249 a gallon or less. It's probably going to take a little while to get there. Well, I don't know if they're kicking our ass, but gas prices has certainly been a lot lower. We'd like to see them lower. Prices never come down as quickly as they go up. I mean, that's pretty much universal. I don't care what you're talking about. That's pretty much universal. But I find it interesting that since President Trump came out a couple of days ago in chastised oil executives for not getting the price of gasoline down. that we've seen a pretty good little drop here over the course last couple of days. Tim Snyder joins us, Chief Economist at Matador Economics and Lubbock. I'm guessing that was probably the president's intention, right? More than really threatened oil executives. He's more about trying to give them a reason to get the price down a little bit quicker, and they seem to be listening to him. Well, it's great to be with you guys this morning, but I have to say that I think it's a little more window dressing, a little more, I'm not being negative about the president, but we have a tendency to want to say what the public wants to hear sometimes and then try to get the details worked out later. This is nothing that oil company executives have any control over. Pricing is a mechanism of international trade. Even as the United States appears to be energy independent, that's a production side. It's not necessarily the price side. And we are still beholden to international trade. Okay. So the reason why the price hasn't gone down quicker is because the international price of oil hasn't gone down quickly enough. Although it is getting down around, what was it yesterday, like 70. 73 bucks a barrel, which is a whole lot cheaper than what it was. How long does it take for that price per barrel to be reflected in the price of a gallon of gas? If it was a one-to-one assumption, in other words, just a standard barrel of crude oil into its representative parts in the refined products, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, that kind of thing, it takes seven to ten days. You have to understand that the typical American barrel of oil that goes into making gasoline and diesel and those kinds of things is a blend. It might be 40% WTI Permian Basin. It may be including 30% heavy crude, 20%, and that would probably be Canadian heavy crude or maybe Venezuelan. It may be including 20% Saudi Arabian light, maybe 10% off shore production. It's a blend. It's not.

just a standard barrel of crude oil because crude all crude oils are not crude oil okay that sounds complicated does it need to be that complicated unfortunately it really is and that's the reason why the president's half right and half wrong here maybe 25% right and 75% wrong here. It has nothing to do with the oil company saying we want to keep prices higher. It has everything to do with the fact that we can control a little bit of price activity because we're the world's largest exporter and producer of crude oil right now. That helps us. That gives us the opportunity to try to help affect the price of crude oil. But overall, we have to accept this international trade consortium. that actually decides where the crude oil goes, what the blends are. And, you know, that's all about optimum production. It has nothing to do with just wanting to be able to bring those prices down. And some mean oil company deciding it wants to make the public pay higher prices. That's just not true. Well, as I said, as usual, it's a lot more complicated than most folks give it credit for being, which explains why we have a hard time comprehending why it takes so long, why prices work the way they. do in the oil industry. It's a little different animal than your typical industry, isn't it? Yes, sir, it is. And, you know, it's nice that we have this ability to do that and that we have such fine refining and, you know, production here, even just in the state. I mean, we could be a country all on our own, but the fact still remains, even if that was the case, we would still be beholden to, you know, the Middle East price, the Canadian price, what happens in Venezuela. You know, I could go on and on. But, you know, there's a. an awful lot to this puzzle. All right, sir. Well, thanks for trying to explain to us. It helped, believe it or not. It helped some. Those are at $70.62 a barrel. So as for why, well... It takes time to turn oil into gas. It takes weeks to get oil out of the ground, into the refineries, and then distilled into gasoline and to the pump. That's the main reason it takes so long for gas prices to drop when oil prices decline. And the biggest refinery is owned by Saudi Arabia. That's not a big oil company. refinery, that's unfortunately that's a, you know, Saudi Ramco denounced that. Metador economics analyst Tim Snyder says refineries buy oil at last month's prices but can't afford to sell the resulting gasoline at a loss, so they priced the gas in last month's prices till the cheaper oil comes in. The Trump administration did not like the ruling and says this is why we need the Save America Act. 80 million Americans elected a Republican Senate majority, and they elected a Republican Congress to deliver on this fundamental priority. It must get done. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. The justices also deny President Trump's attempt to toss the $5 million verdict in the E. Jean Carroll case. Despite their wins this term, Democrats say they will pack the Supreme Court if they return to power. This will mean more justices like Ketanji Brown Jackson. Even worse, if you're going to do this, you should have legal scholars, and instead they're going more for politician types than KBJ. And this is like Elena Kagan, they're within the mainstream liberal legal thought. KBJ is more like performing for the Grammys with her decisions. That's Michael Teelen with the Republican National Lawyers Association. Good news for Harris County taxpayers. The state Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the program that provided defense lawyers for illegal aliens. The program was already facing a legal challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton. That's not what county government set up to do. On this particular issue, there's all kind of legal concerns. I said that when they brought this up last year. County Commissioner Tom Ramsey says, unfortunately, the county will likely keep fighting for this program in court. Not only are we spending over a million dollars doing something we shouldn't, we'll go spend a large sum of money defending that. No, this makes sense. He says at the end of the day, this is likely just a big attempt by leftist commissioners. to get votes. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. The driver of a commercial truck has been arrested in charge in the death of Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Erica Serrano. Driver identified as 20-year-old Ian Perez. 605 on KTRH for years. We have heard about George Soros funding radical Democrats. He's passing on the operation to his son, Alex, who may be more radical. Charlton State Political Science Professor Bo Cabala says the younger source is just getting started. George Soros was never somebody to dismiss, and his son certainly looking to be a financial powerhouse in these recent primaries. So absolutely we should be concerned. So far, the Soros and their super PACs have poured in more than $100 million into the midterms. More primaries today, for instance, in Colorado, where we've got, yep, another socialist running for Congress. The only way we get Medicare for All Pass is by getting rid of the Democrats that are actively standing in that way. taking money from the same interests that don't want to see Medicare for all past. It's begun developing their new drone first responder program, which they say could help prevent officers from being ambushed by suspects who are armed. We have the thermal capabilities on it. Of course, at night, you know, officers walking around, maybe a business alarm or, you know, hold up alarm or something, an officer's going in. If there's suspects around there, we can provide that information back to the officers showing up on a scene. But it's also raising concerns about privacy. Lieutenant William Henry heads up the program and says protecting a privacy was the top priority. He says these drones won't be used for things like traffic enforcement and don't record footage unless necessary. We're also using AI a lot more often these days, and according to a new study,

It's got the same liberal bias we've seen with big tech over the last few years. Only as good as what's put into it. If something's not been run through, it's not going to show up. Problems with showing up in terms of prominence of search function results. Curtis Halk with Newsbuster says this is why you need to take everything AI says with a grain of salt. Other political news, the U.S. Supreme Court hands down more opinions this morning with all eyes looking at one particular issue. Since its ratification following the Civil War, the 14th Amendment has been understood to grant U.S. citizenship to anyone born on American soil, an executive order from President Trump, would end that for children born to parents in the country illegally or temporarily. It's tremendously destructive. It's extremely costly. I don't know. It's up to them. But in terms of for the good of the country, it would be great of... They didn't allow it. The president took the unprecedented step of attending Supreme Court arguments when a challenge to his order was heard in April. That is Jared Halper reporting. We're also waiting on a case concerning men trying to play women's sports. Opinions come out at 9 o'clock. The justices yesterday upheld a Mississippi law on mail-in ballots that Republicans were trying to strike down. It also prevented President Trump from firing Fed Governor Lisa Cook while allowing him to remove members of other federal agencies without cause. The U.S. and Iran were supposed to meet in Qatar today or not. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff lead President Trump's negotiating team, and even though there's an Iranian delegation due in Doha, Qatar, Iran says no meeting is planned. According to the foreign ministry in Tehran, the presence of the Iranian side bears no relation to the American visit. The disagreement over the existence of talks emphasizes how fragile the peace process is. The weekend saw both sides exchange airstrikes after Iran fired on two ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz.

Texas is on a new list of states where you could outlive your money in retirement. Investment advisor Michael Mazer says studies that breakdown optimum retirement costs state by state. The court upheld a Mississippi law allowing mail-in ballots that arrive after election day to be counted. The mail-in ballot ruling, which was a little bit surprising, gives people more time to vote illegally, let's say. But the SAVE Act is even more important. President reacting there, the justices blocked Trump from removing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook but did say he can fire members of other federal agencies without cause. Even with those losses, the left continues to talk about packing the Supreme Court if they get back into power. Michael Teelen is the head of the Republican National Lawyers Association. This would make the Supreme Court a super legislature. So it would overrule both Congress and the White House. It's an uphill fight. And we need to call off how outrageous this actually is. He's trying to get the word out that this can happen. It would really destroy the three powers of government and the three divisions of government. So it's a very serious thing. That's why I'm hoping that we need to really publicize this and we really need to fight this.

Close at home, the Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocks a Harris County program that provided a million dollars in taxpayer money to defend illegal aliens. Of course, Democrats smart and happy. Hopefully they won't, but I expect there'll be large sums of money spent just to defend something that's not defensible. Precinct 3 Republican Tom Ramsey says even if the program was legal, the county doesn't have the money for it. The driver of a commercial truck has been arrested in the death of Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Erica Serrato, Ian Perez. is charged with failing to slow down or move over for emergency vehicles. It's now 704 voters in Colorado head to the polls today for primaries with another socialist candidate on the ballot. Milot Keros is running for Congress and she claims that 9-11 was, this is her word, inevitable. Inevitable in the sense that we... destabilized a lot of the Middle East that forced people to believe that another act of violence was the only response. Kiro's on a Colorado TV station. She also called the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas, inevitable. Radical Democrats are getting a cash infusion from a super familiar source. Leftist billionaire George Soros and his son Alex are pouring well over $100 million into the midterm elections to elect far-left candidates. Tarleton State Political Science Professor Bo Cabala says this funding has a specific purpose. The Soros money comes with strings attached. You look at some of the Democratic socialists that are beating, let's be clear, not conservative Democrats, but progressive Democrats. The radicalism here makes you think something is going on. They are supposed to be technical talks about the memorandum of understanding. And Trump says there's actually quite a bit on the agenda. Adding to the high-stakes nature of the deal, Israel, which is not part of the MOU, says it could be at war with Iran within two days. Anita Vogel there, Iran claims its delegation will be in Doha for a meeting with Qatari mediators, not the U.S. Oil futures are up to $71 and $5 a barrel this morning, while gasoline across Houston is at 3.

36, dropping another two cents as you slept. The president is demanding gas stations, lower their prices, and has renewed a push for 250 a gallon gas. That's mostly for consumer consumption, if that's not redundant. Tim Snyder of Madador Economics says refineries bought oil at $90 a barrel last month. That's what you're filling up with today. It'll take weeks for today's cheaper oil to refine into gas, and that's when prices will go down. Lestrow scored three times in the ninth inning. Yep, back when the vote was taken, the lone dissenting vote against this was by our next guest, Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. So I'm sure you're a happy camper that the Supreme Court of Texas has stepped in on this. Yeah, I am. Good morning, Jim. It's a sad day, really, that a dirt kicking civil engineer from Jasmine Crockett has to give legal opinions on a regular basis. And nine times out of ten, I've been right. They forget they live in Texas. They forget that the impacts on people, routine people, is significant. So when they want to go spend a million dollars and give that to five left-leaning legal organizations, it's wrong. And they know it's wrong. And most people would agree with me, this is not anything the county needs to be wasting money on. I would have to say you're pretty smart for a dirt kicker if you're asking for my opinion on it, pretty doggone smart because you've been right 99.99% of the time. Unfortunately, you're the only one that's serving on the commissioner's court who is. Well, you know, that's what elections are about, and we're heading into one. And really, these kinds of programs are exactly what really upset people. They're more concerned about public safety. How can we reduce the crime? How can we address infrastructure, whether it's roads or flooding, not doling out $1.3 million, and the nonprofits will keep 25% of that for their own.

purposes. So this is a nonprofit funding scheme. I'll use that word. And it's time we get back to core basics and not all these social programs that don't work honestly. This isn't going to help a single person in Harris County, but it sure looks good during election season. All right. Well, that was $1.344 million. Is the money still around or has the money been dispersed? And if the money has been dispersed, how do we get it back? Well, it's been obligated. I'll put it in that category. But at this point, if it's deemed not legal, then, yeah, we have that money. We can get that money and not disperse it. So at least at this point, it's not all been spent. and thank you Supreme Court, or at least putting an attorney Ken Paxton, for putting a house on it. Okay. Well, the good news, as you said, is the funds had not been dispersed, so that's money that's not lost, yes. And I guess that's $1.3 million that can be spent on something that actually benefits all of the taxpayers of Harris County. Right. There's a long list of that, and we deal with it every court meeting, whether it's to jail that is noncompliant in many cases. There's the issues with our court system. We're overwhelmed with all our court responsibility, civil and criminal. So those are, we have a long list of things that really are our statutory responsibility. We don't need to be going out and doing. These kinds of it. It's kind of like the guaranteed income program, Jimmy, that you're familiar with. They tried that, and clearly that wasn't legal either. No. If you had to identify two or three of the biggest needs to be spending money on in Harris County right now, you mentioned the jail and getting the jail compliant. What about the state of our infrastructure in Harris County? Well, it is in a category of emergency. We're not quite as bad as the city of Houston. But we have so many needs, the number of intersections that need new signals installed, look at your striping on your roadways, look at the rebuilding of your roads, cleaning out, which is flooding is a major issue that we're dealing with. So it's a long list of every infrastructure issue you can imagine we have in the county, and we need money and dollars to fund it. All right, Commissioner. Thank you, as always. Good morning gasoline prices continue to drop as the summer travel season heats up. According to AAA, the average price for unleaded has now fallen to $3.85 a gallon. That's a drop of about 12% over the last month. The average price in Texas is $3.30 a gallon. A record number of Americans are expected to travel for the holiday week. Checking on the markets, stocks are looking to wrap up June with the biggest gain in six years. The rally has defied skeptics coming in the face of the Iran war. and inflation jitters. President Trump in the Oval Office yesterday, Iran claims they aren't going to meet with us, but they are in Qatar for a sit-down with mediators. This after the two-sides exchange strikes last week.

because Iran targeted ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil futures up to $71 and $0.28 a barrel. Dow futures are down 45 points this morning. There's the fighting in the Middle East, and then there's the competition between the U.S. and China over AI. It's about to go to a whole new level. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Robert McGuinness tells KTRH that China is building an AI-war machine, putting everything at stake. AI is embedded in all of our infrastructure. Anything that is tethered to the internet or electronically, it can be either shut down, destroyed, or controlled externally for their purposes of those that control it. He says that's why we need data centers. Multiple studies, including one from the Washington Post and the Media Research Center, show that top AI models continue to show left-wing and anti-American bias. That includes Claude and Chat GPT. While AI provides instant relief or gratification that you can ask a question and that you will get an answer within mere moments, it should not be taken as a sign of accuracy. Curtis Halk with Newsbuster says this bias is the result of the fact that AI is trained off of woke sources like the mainstream media. More political news. The U.S. Supreme Court will hand down more rulings this morning. It's not just birthright citizenship that we're waiting on. The Supreme Court will decide whether Idaho and West Virginia's laws preventing transgender athletes from participating in girls and women's school sports teams can stand. Two transgender athletes allege the measures are unconstitutional and violate Title IX, a federal law which prohibits sex discrimination in education. State officials argue athletes who are born male have a biological advantage over females on the playing field. The court's ruling is expected to impact similar laws in more than two dozen Republican-led states. That is Christian Goodwin reporting. The High Court did uphold a Mississippi law on mailing ballots that Republicans were trying to strike down. It prevented President Trump from firing Lisa Cook, the Fed Governor, while allowing him to remove members of other federal agencies without cause. 734, Fulshire Police have begun testing a new drone-first responder program. Their drones were developed by the controversial flock safety company. According to Folcher PD officials, the drones are essentially just flying body cams. We don't watch top signs. We don't look for speeders with it. That's not what it's there for. It's there to go out and assist the officers, get information so we can do our job better. Lieutenant William Henry heads up the program and says it will be a major force multiplier for Folshire PD. So the whole point of the program is work smarter, not harder, so we can fly there, get information back to the officers so they know what they're showing up to. He also noted that the drones don't record unless they have a reason and record. recordings are stored safely with body cam footage. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. In Austin, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is called an interim state hearing to look into the negative health impacts of THC. Heather Fosio of the Texas Cannabis Policy Center says this hearing is just propaganda. The real question should be an open and honest discussion about the impact of THC on individuals, but also the impact of prohibition on our state.

She also notes that the public won't be able to testify at this hearing, only Patrick's experts. 735, a plain wide envelope just showing up in your mailbox with nothing inside could be more than just a mistake. Consumer expert Robert Siciliano says it might be part of a scam called brushing. It's designed to create fake online reviews or even lure you into scanning a malicious QR code. Anytime the phone rings, you get an email, a text message, a pop-up. or anything via U.S. postal, always be suspect. If you get one, don't scan any codes or call phone numbers included in the package. Now, this might surprise you. Texas is one of the states where retirees, according to a new study, could outlive their savings. But the survey doesn't take one important thing into consideration. Unlike other states, there are all kinds of lifestyles available in Texas. Hopefully you're going to spend time through the first part of your retirement, having fun and going and golfing and fishing and cruising or do whatever you do. I've got to have everybody work in here on all cylinders, and I'm excited to bring them back. You had a rare bipartisan win with the housing bill. But of course, now we're seeing that held up because of the president's threats to not sign it because he wants to save America bill attached. What are you going to do about it? Well, I met with the president for a few hours on Thursday in the Oval Office, and we talked about it in great detail. The housing bill really is a Republican priority because it will lower housing costs. We made a lot of promises to the voters, and we're fulfilling those every single day of this Congress. And this is a big part of that because it will increase the availability, the access to more housing, bring down cost, cut regulations, do the things that we know are very important for that market. I'm going to send the bill over to him. It's passed by both chambers. I'm sending it to him on Monday, and it will become law. And I certainly want him to take the biggest, boldest marker that he has and do that big Trump signature proudly on that legislation because we're delivering for the people, and that's what he wants to do. But the combination has grown this point of view that, hey, come on, where's mine? Let's have it. And that's what the progressives... The communists, because Zohran Mamdani is a communist, that's what he wants. It was the control of means of production. Yeah, that's what they're selling. You know, the easy way, supposedly, the easy way for you to get the things that you want. And after all, it's owed to you. I don't think a whole lot of us believe that, do we?
