This is News Radio 740, KTRH, Houston, an I heart radio station, guaranteed human. Now, the latest news, weather, and traffic. It's more of what matters to you from the John Moore Services Studios. It is Friday morning 5 a.m. here on Houston's morning news. I'm Jimmy Amy Coney Barrett. Among our top stories as we get started this morning, reports that Iran has a plot to kill Trump. It's not very surprising. Texas oil producers stepping up to try to help with oil supplies and coming up at 508. This, well, this town wants to ban drive-thrus, all drive-thrus. details in the minutes ahead. First. Oh, it's too bright in here. What is it? Turn down the light sky. It's Cliff's head. Welcome back, Clifford. We're glad to have you back. Turn on those overheads. And you get the first ball joke of the day. Boom. All right, 99 Grand Parkway, dude. Those of you who take 529 in from work to get on Grand Parkway, you do have a problem. Northbound feeder. And if you want to look at this just for curiosity, it doesn't look good. Camera 2308. That intersection has been closed a while. I think it's going to stay close. close to for a little longer. Katie Freeway, outbound, not inbound, Gessner, that's a stall. I think they're going to take a right lane in a minute, so watch out. Outbound, inbound, you're going, I'm Skymike, the generator supercenter.com traffic center. From our KTRH, top tax defenders 24-hour weather center for today, partly sunny, scattered showers and storms are possible with the activity right about 92. Jeffie knows that the weather channel today will get the complete forecast for the weekend. It could be kind of raining around here. New Down 4 is predicted. We'll have the details in about nine minutes. Right now 78 in your official Severe Weather Station, News Radio 740KTRH. It's time for the news. He's back. Here's Cliff Saunders. Yeah, Mike ruined the spoiler. Trump assassination is our top story this morning at 502. These are sick people, so I could see something like that. The president on his way back from Turkey as we find out more about the plot against him. The Wall Street Journal is reporting tonight about a new Iranian plot to kill Donald Trump. And that tracks with what the New York Times said and why he switched planes. Boxes Laura Ingram there. The report says Israel and shared intel with the White House about the Iranian plot. This comes amid new strikes between the U.S. in Tehran with a ceasefire more or less dead. There are new questions about how the fighting ends. It's becoming increasingly clear that the answer isn't to negotiate with the radical regime. We have radical Islamic extremists in every country in the world. They're spread throughout the Middle East, but the difference with Iran is that they control the country. Jeff Atticott with the Warrior Defense Project says the only option left is overwhelming military force. Every single road in Iran is a military target. If that didn't do it, then go after the electrical power plants, which are also military targets. Atticott says the key is ensuring that the Iranian regime doesn't.

regain control of the straight of Hormuz. Ethan Buchanan, News Radio 740, KTRH. Now futures are up this morning. Oil futures are down to $71.93 a barrel. This week strikes putting a spotlight on domestic oil production. And here in Texas, companies are restarting their rigs to increase said production. Absolutely. There's some optimism right now in our industry. Texas oil and gas expert Archie Trevino. The latest report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas shows the first major spike in oil and gas employment since late 2024. That said, some bad news for the sector. There's one report saying Baker Hughes is closing a facility right here in Houston laying off 174 employees. It's now 503 looking at another one of our adversaries. We have long heard about threats from China. But what would happen if the Chinese hacked our water supply? Something that experts say is a legitimate threat. It is very legitimate. I've worked this problem, and I know the U.S. government's been working on it for a very long time. That is former FBI counterintelligence agent, Eric Waken, who is now a strategic advisor. We have lots of advances going on, but at the same time, our adversaries won't rest. And the frontiers of freedom are not 3,000 miles away. They're not at the border. They are all over in their inside our backyard, inside our homes. Which is why ongoing cybersecurity is key. Jeff Andy Biggs News Radio 740. KT. Reach. Closer to home, the Office of Houston Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia claims that illegal aliens shot and killed by ICE this week after ramming his car into agents was not the intended target of the investigation. But DHS says the agents were not wearing body cameras, which has the left melting down. The fact that there's no body worn camera in this incident is going to cause many people to take a second look in. Law enforcement analyst Jim Willis with our TV partner channel 2. Harris County DA Sean Tier says his office is, quote, committed to investigating this, but he's also crying that the feds control access to evidence. Mayor John Whitmire is trying to be the voice of reason as radical leftists protest the shooting. Charles Blaine with urban reform says John Whitmire is facing pressure to do more, but it's simple. He can't. They're going to want him to do something, and we're ahead of the November election, so everything hotly, politically contested. And he's got his own election to worry about a year from now. And so I think he's in a very unique position where he's going to have to balance it by making them happy that he's doing something, but really not having the ability to do much. John Whitmire says because HPD was not involved, the city has no jurisdiction to take action on its own. Nationally, the Trump administration is launching its first large-scale H-1B visa fraud investigation. Staffing companies have hijacked the program, abusing the visas to undercut American workers. Not only are they not very highly skilled, but many have obtained their visas through outright fraud by lying about their degrees. Immigration expert Jessica Vaughn says these visas have direct paths to green cards, making action vital, and some fraud already discovered has links to criminal organizations. That means there's an impact on public safety as well as on the job market.

She says removing labor contractors from the market would be a big first step. Andre Parrard News Radio 740, KTRH. 5060 U.S. Postal Service is raising the cost of a stamp by $0.2 to $0.2 a piece. And financial planner Mitch Kramer says their business model needs to be completely revamped. They're just unfortunately in a very bad situation, and somebody needs to go through it and just really start over and say, this is going to be the USPS going forward. The increase begins on July 12. Astros visit the Rangers tonight. Pre-game at 6 on Sports Talk 790, the game at 790 at KTRH. Stros and third in the AL West, two games behind the first place Rangers. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News, Weather and Traffic Station, News Radio 740, KTRH. What's started in your car now works on your phone with the new iHeart radio app. The new presets are fantastic. Get Houston's news, weather, and traffic. That's how I listen to KTRH. Instantly. 5.08 our time here on Houston's morning news. Do you use drive-thrus? I have to admit, I don't use drive-thrues very often. I think that makes me kind of unusual. I use the drive-thru at the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions. Sometimes. More often than not, I kind of use the drive-through to be able to use the inside, if you know what I mean. Because the drive-throughs, I think we've kind of gotten a little lazy. It's just so easy not to have to get out of your air-conditioned car and walk into the heat and go inside and stand in a line and you'll pay with the cashier when you could just drive through, stay in your air-conditioned car. As long as the line's not too long. But the line's always long because everybody wants to use the drive-thru. So that's why I go inside. And I'd usually get out long before they're done getting through the drive-thru line. But anyway, that's not what this story's about. This story is about a California town, of course, Culver City, California, is talking about a citywide ban on new drive-thrus, saying that neighbors have raised alarms over a proposed new in-and-out. They say could worsen traffic, hurt air quality. There you go, trying to use the environment. Create dangers for pedestrians and cyclists. Hang on. How does the drive-thru create a danger for pedestrians? Are people walking through the drive-thru? I don't think so. In fact, you're not allowed to walk through the drive-thru in most places. No. That's just excuses. How about if we fight it at the other end? What if I were to say, well, you're not being fair to people with disabilities? What about the people in wheelchairs or people who have handicapped stickers who maybe are on crutches who use the drive-through so that they don't have to try to get out of their vehicle and put themselves in danger going across the parking lot? Essentially, what this might really be all about is a city saying, we don't want any more fast food restaurants. We're tired of fast food restaurants. We don't think people should eat fast food. Therefore, we're going to ban the drive-thrus because 70%, that's a big number. 70% of all sales...

9:49

For a fast food restaurant, go through the drive-thru. Seven, did you realize that? 70%. That's a lot. 5-10. Time for traffic and weathered together. I don't do drive-ins. You know, why don't you do drive-ins? Because it's like the Southwest Freeway inside the loop. It's like a canyon, and you can't. What if the person in front of you just stops for no reason and just sits there? You're worried about being boxed in? Yes, I'm worried about being trapped. I can't commit. Let's go to the hard work at East Side. Put your hard hats on. Let's hit 2.25 coming in off the Hartman Bridge. We're in pretty shape here. 146. Pass the Beltway over to the Goodyear Plant. So nice to smell you this morning. 19 minutes looks good. Well, they're not making roses. They're making rubber. That's 2-6-10, the Sherman Bridge. And coming down from the Bud Plant. Wow, look at you go. East Sam, the Toll Bridge, rocking along. from I-10 down to Deer Park. If you work at Shell or PMEX, you're having a good morning. And I-10 coming in from Chevron Phillips. What are y'all doing this morning? Oh, you're making stuff too and making money. It's 33 minutes into downtown roads rock for now. I'm Sky Mike. It's your generator supercenter.com traffic center. From our KTRH, top tax defenders, 24-hour weather center, Jeffino on duty today. The weather channel looks like our rain chances increases the weekend wears on. Yes, sir. And as a matter of fact, a little bit of rain may be coming in here as we go through the latter part of the morning, looking at radar now. Not a lot going on, but we'll call it partly sunny. Going to be a little hot, but hey, it's July 10th. So we go up to the low 90s heat index around 101, and those scattered showers and storms should be coming in about the time that hopefully everyone is settled in from the rush hour. Tonight partly cloudy, chance for those showers and storms later on overnight, low 79. Saturday we're partly sunny. Now we're up at a little bit. 50-50 shot for those. scattered showers and storms will go up to 92. Heat and exercise 102. And yeah, for the afternoon on Sunday, showers and thunderstorms will become likely. Right now, 78 of your official, severe weather station, news radio 740 KTRH. I live in Pasadena. Sharptown, Southwest. Next on the 10. Time saving traffic on 740 KTRH. All right, Graham Platner out of the race in Maine, obviously. But he is not going quietly into that good night, that's for sure. He's going to try to muck it up as much as he can between now and November. I thoroughly predict this is not the kind of person who just says, okay, I'm a bad guy. Maybe I shouldn't have been the Senate nominee. I'll just go away quietly and y'all just pick somebody else to take my place. No, no, no, no. That's not what's going to happen here. More than that story coming up next. First, though, let's do a little traffic and weather together. My workwife, Christina Cruz, guess where she is? Where is she? She's stuck in a drive-thru right now. Is she? Yeah, so that means I have to do all the other stations, including our hip-hop station, Jimmy Amy Coney Barrett. It's a national French Friday. Maybe she can pick us up some prize while she's stuck there. Grab us that right there, Christina. So while I'm on the hip-hop station, yo, what's up, 99 Grand Parkway at 529. That's police activity, 5-0, lookout. Also, we'll check the East Tech's coming down from New Caney, past the Beltway, past the smoke can toke, and we're all good downtown 20 minutes from Humble. I'm Sky Mike. It's your generator, supercenter.com traffic center. From our KTRH, top tax defenders, 24-hour weather center for today, partly sunny, scattered showers, and storms, possible 92.

13:14

Same forecast tomorrow with the shower and storm chance at 50%. And then Sunday, partly sunny. Shows and storms likely with a high temperature of 93. Right now, it is currently, let me double check here, 78 at your officials. Severe Weather Station, News Radio 740, KTRH. Cliff is back this morning. He has an update on some of our top stories. Thank you, Jimmy. A man charged with the murder of a Harris County repairman last week now has been charged in a second murder. Eight people are now indicted in the plot against the UFC White House event. And NASA head, Jared Isaacman confirms that the space agency has taken images of objects that, quote, remain unknown. Cue up the X-Files music. Get the latest news anytime at KTRH.com. Our next update is at 530. What's started in your car now works on your phone with the new iHeartRadio app. The new presets are fantastic. Get Houston's news, weather and traffic. That's how I listen to KTRH. Instantly. I think Graham Platner's a bad guy. Very bad guy. You know, you have all these rape allegations, all these girlfriends stepping forward, although I will say there's the part of me that says, you know, this, it's funny how they all just kind of came out of the woodwork at the same time. The Me Too movement of work. But the guy should have never got the Senate nomination to begin with. Not the type of candidate any party should be putting forward. But it's interesting to watch the left try to spin this now. and to make it sound like somehow Republicans are to blame for all this. So let's get some reaction not only from the left-loving media, but also from the folks on the five. Am I? They really should just shut up if they're going to be critical of Democrats for supporting a morally challenged candidate. My empathy goes with the bravery of that woman for speaking out, and he has to drop out of the race. Graham Platner's problem is he should have ran as a Republican, and then he would be the senator, because they don't have an issue with this. It's not okay. I keep pointing to the one at the top because this is the one that is in front of our kids as well. Yes. And we have to explain why we say no to this one, but this one is okay. And ultimately, deeply enraging political career for Graham Platner and raging for all of us. Right. They're trying to spin their way out of this. Kaylee, is it working? No, they were all on board. Look, I don't know why I do this, but occasionally subject myself to MS now. Jen Saki was on board. They were all on board with Graham Platner. They loved this guy. They loved him when he had a Nazi tattoo. They loved him when he had Reddit posts that were on earth that said the army was absolute trash, full of fat, lazy trash. They still supported this guy. They supported this guy when we saw Reddit posts that he said the Navy SEALs were generally incompetent. Teddy Daniels, remember what?

16:21

He said about him, that M. Fer, he said, that dumb MFer didn't deserve to live. They were all with this guy. They were still with him. When Lindsay Fyfield came forward and said he pushed her, left marks on her shoulder, locked her in a room. They were all on. Roe kind of appeared with him that night. Absolutely. Bernie stayed. Elizabeth Warren stayed. This is what they did. And Graham Platner, he's going out guns of blazing. He's blaming this on the establishment. He is going to, I think. take down whoever is next. He might do it subtly off the record to reporters, but he is on a mission to burn down the house. And evidence of that, Axios just reported that he told staffers on the phone, he's not filing his paperwork to exit the race until Monday. He has until Monday at 5 p.m. Why is this guy waiting until Monday? He has an axe to grind. He's not going away. And the absolute comedy of the New York Times saying that his advisors thought he would be a 2028 presidential candidate. I think not. Yeah, no. I think not as well. It's interesting he's waiting until Monday. Well, you know, why wouldn't he try to muck it up at this point? Why wouldn't he do that? That makes all the sense of the world, at least to me. 526. Let's take a look at your money. Good morning, Pepsi says high gas prices have shoppers buying fewer snacks. The owner of Texas-based Rito-Lay has been working to boost sales of its salty snacks and saw some signs of a rebound earlier this year after slashing prices. But Pepsi says that momentum has slowed down in the second quarter as its North American business delivered softer than expected results. Share has fell more than 3% yesterday. I'm Courtney Donahoe. Bloomberg Business on News Radio 740, KTRH.

And coming up at 538, a parasitic stomach bug that's reached 17 states. A what? Parasitic stomach bug. A parasitic stomach bug. Yes. Doesn't sound like much fun, does it? I don't have time for that. Yes, let's do the Grand Parkway, Jimmy. 529. I have a feeling nothing good is happening down there. It's on the feeder road. It's some kind of police activity. I'm hearing shooting, and this is a northbound feeder, and that's all we know just so far. But I know it's going to shut down. They're going to have to do a lot of investigating here. Stay on those main lanes. If you come in from 529, let's take Fry, get around that business. Let's see, 45 north. I have the electric. Mark from Spring. 45 northbound just north. of Graford, there is a car on fire with the fire truck blocking however many lanes. I've got it at Richie, Mark. I've got two right lanes at Richie outbound. Let me zoom that at the bottom at the 40 break, but I know this one's here, and that's just north of air techs. I'm Scott Mike. It's your ability tree experts traffic center. From our KTRH generator super center, 24-hour weather center, partly sunny, scattered showers and storms possible today with high temperature right about 92. Complete forecast is coming up, courtesy of Jeff Eno at the Weather Channel, in eight minutes. Temperature right now 78 and your official, severe weather station, News Radio 740, KTRH. It's time now for the news. Here's Cliff Saunders. It's 532, our top story. The party chose to nullify that election twice in a row. Joe Biden, one cycle ago and Graham Platner now, this is the state right now of the party that calls itself the democracy champion. Fox is Guy Benson on the Dems, tossing Maine's Graham Platner to the curb. The Graham Platner Scannels helping Republican Susan Collins, as the incumbent is now either tied with or leading the potential Placner replacements in the latest polling. Here at home, Texas Senator Ted Cruz is warning Republicans that Democrat James Talarico actually does have a chance to beat Ken Paxton and win the Senate race in November. I think this is a real race. I think it's going to be close. I think we're going to win. I think we're going to keep Texas red. But the polling right now shows this as a one or two point rate. Cruz on KTRH this week with Governor Greg Abbott, who is filling in on the Sean Hannity Show. According to reports, Texas leadership has started the push for closed primary legislation. Matt Rinaldi, the former chair of the Texas GOP, says it's long overdue. I think it's very welcome. It's a huge policy shift.

21:16

from their previous position where leadership had been cold towards closed primaries and had not been supportive in the past, but it's something we've been pushing for for years. The push being led by the governor, lieutenant governor, and even the House speaker, Rinaldi expects this to pass. Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong is promising to stay in office after the Democrat County attorney filed a lawsuit challenging his position. From the beginning. I have said the distractions around this issue can only be resolved in a courtroom, not in a press release, and not in a competing legal opinions. And in Harris County, Judge Lina Hidalgo, you may have missed this. She left Commissioner's Court early yesterday, then set out a statement saying she'd been diagnosed with mono and didn't have the... Her words, quote, stamina to stay all day, close quote. Nidalgo also is demanding an investigation into the shooting of that illegal alien by ICE in Houston after that man apparently rammed his car into agents. Mayor John Whitmire says his hands are tied because HPD is not involved. We can't conduct an independent investigation, even if we wanted to. And a win for Texas in court, a federal appeals court upholding the agreement between Texas and the Trump administration, ending in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. 534, the Wall Street Journal, reporting that Israel has warned the White House of a new assassination plot against the president by Iran. This is after the renewed fighting. The Pentagon confirms that U.S. forces have now struck more than 170 Iranian targets. The U.S. knocking out air defense systems, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and coastal surveillance just to name a few to go along with military logistics and infrastructure as well. And now the president says the regime is begging him to return to the negotiating table. Fox is Kevin Cork. Oil futures edged down to $71 and 92 cents a barrel this morning. Gasoline prices at $3.36 down more than 30 cents from a month ago. After gains yesterday, Dow futures are up 109 points this morning. According to Realtor.com, foreclosures are starting to rise. This could put downward pressure on housing prices. It could also be a sign of more economic trouble, which we won't know for a little bit. I think we'd have a clearer picture about this near the end of the year. Typically, it takes at least two quarters for like a major economic action to have a ripple effect and to start to see the cumulative effect start to kick in. That's Lone Star College Economics Professor Hank Lewis. Now, according to the National Association of Home Builders, government regulations add over $130,000 to the cost of new construction homes, a major driver of the home affordability crisis. We update our study every five years, and so this is now, you know, the fifth year, and it reinforces what we have been saying all along that the cost to build a single family home in this country continue to escalate. National Association of Home Builder CEO Jim Tobin there. 536 Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burroughs say the state will allocate $50 million to advance Ibegain research. Health expert Paul Fulford says a 2024 Stanford study.

24:36

did show significant improvements. One month after a single Ibogaine treatment, PTSD symptoms went down 88%. Depression went down 87 and anxiety went down 81%. This all furthers the president's executive order in Senate Bill 2308 in support of clinical trials for the drug. The Houston Astros visit the Rangers in Arlington and tonight pregame at 6 on Sports Talk 790, the game at 7 on 790 and KTRH. I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news weather and traffic station. Yeah, wasn't it? 538 our time here in Houston's morning news. That is the symptom, if you will. of a large and growing outbreak of a parasitic infection, which is now in 17 states, but most notably in the state of Michigan, as of Thursday yesterday, more than 300 cases of cyclo sporacysis. Is that my C-Y-C-L-O-S-P-O-R-I-A-S-I-S. Close enough. It's an intestinal infection. It is caused by food or water containing poop, feces, according to the CDC. According to the state, they're working closely with state and local partners to identify the source of the outbreak, which is making people ill. Residents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey also dealing with the illness. The Michigan outbreak occurred during this time of the year when public health specialists typically would see a rise in cases. Usually, here's what has happened repeatedly with these types of illnesses. And they're usually associated with things like lettuce and tomatoes, fresh vegetables, grown in fields where maybe... They're being tended by people who are relieving themselves in the field. Is that part of the problem? That might be part of the problem. I'm not quite either that or it's not a good water source, one or the other. But again, one of those things that seems like it would be relatively easy to prevent, but we seem to deal with it every summer. 540, time for traffic and weather together. Some people think it's funny, but it's really green and runny. I knew there's a line that was missing. We need more diarrhea poetry on the free eye heart radio app. I can't wait until Skip from Webster wakes up. All right, I've got a vehicle firemark from spring, the first banana sticker of the morning. This is outbound at Ritchie. Now, I can't get eyes on this. I'm looking at air text, and I see all the people scooched up. This is outbound, not inbound. So you could stay the course on 45 North, fight it out with the commenters. But outbound. I do have about a three or four minutes scratch trying to go northbound up to Grand Parkway. Southbound, you're doing a good job, minding your own business. Now, I would love some help with this. I want to make sure everybody's okay. So hit me on the tip line. Tell me what you see. 713-212 T-IPS. The police activity still on. 529 at Grand Parkway's feeder. This is the northbound side. Just avoid that spot. Stay on the main lanes and we'll be around it. Whatever's going on down there. Nothing good is happening. I'm in the Ability Tree Expert.

Bert's Traffic Center. I'm our KTRH Generator Super Center. 24-hour weather center. Jeffino joins us. We've got storm chances pretty much every day through Sunday, but it looks like as we get into Saturday and Sunday, those storm chances increase. We'll see that pick up, tick. Today, pretty much just those scattered showers and storms, isolated to scattered at best. Coming in as we move into the latter part of the morning, hopefully no effect on rush hour. We'll call it partly sunny. We are headed up to 92 today. Heat index around 101, a little sticky. And then tonight, partly cloudy, chance of those showers and storms later on, and we'll back it down maybe. 30% chance tonight. We'll go up to a 50-50 shot tomorrow. Partly sunny, scattered showers and storms coming in, 92 the high heat index around 102, and then sure enough for the afternoon on Sunday, those showers and thunderstorms become likely and we'll hit the low 90s again. Right now 78 at your officials, severe weather station, news radio 740, KTRH. I live in Katie. I live in the woodlands. Next on the 10. Your reliable forecast on 740 KTRH. So if you ever heard of a drug called Ibogaine? Ibogain is a psychoactive alkaloid found in the root bark of the central West African shrub known for intense, long-lasting, psychedelic and introspective effects. It appears to be an effective treatment for drug abuse. for traumatic brain industries, for PTSD, and maybe a few other things as well. In fact, even Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick supports doing more research here in Texas on it. We'll talk to Paul Fulford. He's a health and wellness expert about this stuff. Coming up next. But first, let's do traffic and weather together. I go gain to the North Freeway. There you go, Skymike. It's outbound and Richie. I finally got a moving shot here, Jimmy. This is camera 2, 3-5 if you're playing the home game. Two right lanes are blocked. Vehicle, fire. Yes. I don't see any fire. I don't see any smoke. I see a big arrow truck. It looks to me like everybody's okay. Southbound, little rubber necking, mind your own business. I'm in the Generator Supercenter.com traffic center. From our KTRH, Generator Supercenter, 204-hour weather center, partly sunny, scattered showers and storms, possible. 92 today. The Wall Street Journal reports about a new Iranian assassination plot against President Trump. Hunter Biden admits there were explicit pictures and messages on the so-called laptop from hell. And California is ranked among the nation's worst states to move to by Consumer Affairs. The only two states that were worse? Louisiana and New Mexico. I can vouch for New Mexico. I live in Katie. I live in Edo. Your reliable forecast. Next on the 10 on 740 KTRH. 552 now here on Houston's morning news. Texas lawmakers pushing for advancements in state-led Ibo-gain research falling into executive order from President Trump. Maybe that's why Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burroughs have hopped on the bandwagon here. Not so much Dustin Burroughs, but Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. I have to admit, that surprised me a little bit, only because, you know, Dan Patrick's stance on things like marijuana have been pretty clear. He's been very anti-drug as it relates to that. But maybe because of the fact that this particular... substance, if you will, shows like it may have some promising results for something like PTSD. Maybe that's why he's decided he wants to support more research on this. Paul Fulford joins us. He's a health and wellness expert. What can you tell us about IboGame? What is IboGame? Well, it's a medical plant, and it comes from a shrub out of West Africa. It's been used in healing ceremonies for centuries. But here's where the labs are finding now. For veterans carrying TBIs, traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, addiction, and stuff that a whole cabinet of pills can't touch, one treatment can give them their life back. And for... People that are Texans, I mean, Texas has gone all in because Texas leads and doesn't have permission most of the time, right? They put $50 million on the table, the biggest publicly funded psychedelic research push in American history and partnered with Texas universities, the world-class universities in Texas, and to show that this is not just a coastal experiment, it's Texas deciding to be first. I guess if you're old enough, you hear the term psychedelic and you start thinking of things like LSD and going on trips that aren't necessarily good trips. What do we know about how Ibo game works or doesn't work in what it does to the body? Does it have a psychedelic effect on your mind? It most certainly does. And that's a fair question. And, you know, where I believe the science actually kind of shuts the skeptics up is, you know, there is, I would say, one real risk. And it can stress the heart. So when researchers already knew this, so they paired it with magnesium to protect the heart and the cardiac risk essentially went away. You know, it isn't guys in a tent taking a wild guess. You know, these are, these are medical professionals that are doing this alongside. It's medically supervised. I mean, there's studies in Stanford, you know, it's a clinical protocol. There's medical supervision, cardiac martyering, and it's respected medicine. They do it right and it's safe. And the entire reason, you know, that Texas...

medical centers are doing this instead of out of the country with no oversight is a critical piece. I mean, we, especially when you look at the veterans that, you know, These men and women that put their lives on the line for our country to go outsource their medicine across the border in Mexico when they could be getting it done here because that's what we're going to do. They're going to other countries to get this done and the data doesn't lie on how this works. What's really amazing to me, I'm looking at the results from this Stanford study that shows that average reductions in PTSD symptoms, 88%, 87% in depression symptoms, 81% in anxiety symptoms. That means that works for 8 out of 10 people. Yeah. And let me, if somebody that's really been massively, you know, behind this and been pushing it big is a man by name of DJ Shipley. He's a Navy SEAL 17 years. He was a tip of the spear. And when he came home, he said the transition was the lowest point of his life. He had a TBI, rage, isolation. He put it this way, you know, overseas under fire, he found calm. But when he was at home, he was lost. Therapy, medication, sleep clinics, nothing. Then a teammate came back from an Ibogaine journey looking like a different man. And DJ went and did it. And what he says about it to this day is that it stripped everything away and forced him to see the truth and checked his ego. And then. You know, that treatment didn't just save his life. It gave him a new one. And this is where, you know, again, we're asking these people to give their lives to us in outsourcing this. You know, we lose 22 veterans a day. This is who this helps. Yeah, absolutely worth it. Absolutely worth it. Is there a possibility this could get fast-tracked as a treatment? How easy or how difficult is it to get treatment for this in our country right now? Well, this is something that the Maha group is working on, right? This is on the same piece of getting the peptides off the category two list. You've got people like Brigham Bueller at Wastewell in Austin, and I believe there is a location now in Houston that is pushing this type of legislature forward.

And it's, it's something that is on the docket and it has been signed to move forward, but Texas isn't waiting. Texan does what Texas is doing what Texas does. It's leading and it's going hard, right? And there's no profit in it because it's the right thing. And I, you know, I'm not a Texan. I'm in Texas a lot. I hope you've never been through it either because it can, well, not good for yourself esteemless, put it that way. You hate to see a statistic like this. Foreclosures have hit a seven-year high. We're told us because of the end of pandemic relief. I think it might be from a whole lot of other causes. Hank Lewis joins us, Lone Star College Economics Professor. Why do you think foreclosures are to seven-year high, Hank? Well, there are several reasons behind this. There's been pandemic relief. That is a true factor. Some of the student loan forgiveness programs and so forth have kind of peered out in some of the relief there. But there's other factors as well. The inflation has been very high. Interest rates have remained high. Prices of food and other things need for survival are high. And some people are having to make some choices here and there. And unfortunately, some of the results are people are maxing out credit to buy food and to cover essentials, and it's hard to cover mortgages. And so we're seeing more foreclosures as a result of just – it's just the sign of the times, man. Yeah, I guess it is. You know, I always wonder – you know, I look forward to getting your thoughts on this. I always wonder if we still make – qualifying for a home mortgage too easy. If we allow too high of a percentage of income to go towards a home mortgage and therefore it kind of set people up for potential failure. That is a possibility. You do have some predatory lenders out there, especially those that are going after the people that have got the poor credit rating as opposed to standard or good credit ratings. Variable rate interest mortgages are the worst ones to go with, but typically they go to people with worse credit.

51:40

Now, if you get this mortgage, when the interest rates are lower, the payment is typically affordable. But when interest rates start to spike, which is typical when there's inflation, those payments go up and they suddenly become more affordable. And some people who do not plan for these things find themselves in kind of a bad spot. And it doesn't help with the fact that right now real estate prices are at all time high. In fact, they just said that the average price or the median price for a new home is just under $445,000, which is the highest it has ever been, historically speaking. And that is concerning. Isn't that interesting, though, that normally when you have a higher foreclosure rate, that helps drive prices down because you have more homes, if nothing else, you have more homes on the market that are available for sale. But we haven't seen that happen, have we. I don't know if it's because the inventory is still relatively low or what the story is, but we just have not seen anything to really stop the rise in home prices. Well, there are several factors involved with that. One of them, which may change, depending upon what happens today, with that bill that was bipartisan passed recently, but Trump had yet to sign as far as to limit or to stop large organizations like the private equity and hedge funds from buying up single family homes. The thing is even when the bill is put into effect without a signature, it's not officially in effect until January 1st of the next year, so you have a lag built in. And so when you start to see some of these homes start to become available in the auction markets, what may happen is you may have some of those entities scoop up a bunch of them, and when they don't hit the market, the supply doesn't shift right, and the price doesn't go down. Even if they are stopped immediately, it's going to take a while for those homes to go through the foreclosure process. It's kind of drawn out. And then when they do go through the auctions, if the reserves aren't hit, they help companies for a bit. before they are released onto the market. So we may not be starting to see any relief on this until maybe sometime around December or maybe early next year. What do you think would be the key here to just kind of getting things back to more normal as far as the housing market goes? Is it all about the interest rates? Because to me, that's only part of the story here. We've seen some historically high insurance rates as well. That's become a very big factor, especially if you happen to own a home anywhere near the Gulf Coast, for example. Exactly. Well, there's numbers of factors involved with that, too, because of the fact that there's been a withholding of supply of single-family homes that's driven the price higher. When real estate prices go higher, insurance rates go up because it's based upon the value of the home. And then when you throw in natural disasters like hurricanes and plugs that have been bad on the Gulf Coast in the past decade, that makes the casualty insurance higher. So you have those factors in there. The main thing to grant relief to this is get more homes on the market. When the market supply increases, prices go down. That would be kind of the first step. The second step would be we need a market correction on the real estate prices because some economists have believed that some of the real estate prices are artificially inflated due to several factors. And if we had a correction and got the prices back down to a more reasonable level, that would... alleviate some of this, unfortunately, typically a correction like that happens when we have a severe recession. Right. And the bad news about that is for people who have all their equity in the value of their home, that hits them in the pocketbook pretty hard.

54:54

very much so, especially if you bought a home in the past three years when the real estate prices have spiked, you're going to be the one that's going to find yourself upside down when the prices do correct. It's very true. All right, Hank Lewis. Thanks. This is always good to talk to your Lone Star College Economics Professor Hank Lewis at 627. Let's keep looking at your money. When you start to see layoffs tick up, things start to slow down the economy, and so, yeah, there's going to be an increase in foreclosures for sure. The economists are keeping their eyes on it. Today, Commissioner's Court, I didn't have the stamina to stay all day, and I wore a K-95 mask because I still wasn't feeling well. Testimony at the preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, the accused killer of Charlie Kirk, where the lawyers were making a big deal of Erika Kirk being there. Here's the report from Los Angeles on the testimony and some of the other interesting things from yesterday's courtroom activities. So he acted erratically. Was he pacing? They're just sitting down, relaxing? No, he was walking around a lot. And that's within the home. And did he talk about what he had done? Didn't go into detail. He just, I just asked him in person if what he said was true the night before, and he said it was. I started crying a little bit and said he wishes he hadn't done it. Hearing we finally got to this highly anticipated police interview with Lance Twigs, Tyler Robinson's former lover and roommate, and the prosecution star witness in their case against the accused assassin. Judge Tony Graff ordered that much of the 37-minute-long interview be played with significant redactions to ensure Robinson receives a fair trial, but by any measure, what was played here today was incriminating. In the video interview, Twiggs tells prosecutor Ryan McBride about his relationship with Robinson and messages he received from him the night and day after Charlie Kirk was killed. He said on September 10th, Robinson left early saying he had a long drive to work and heard from him again at 11 that night when he got a text message directing him to a note he had left. That's when the courtroom monitor goes to black, but the audio continues. Listen.

1:11:31

That was the note under his keyboard that he was referring to in the first text of that chain. So where did you find this? On his desk underneath his computer keyboard. Prosecutors say that note and text exchanges include confessions and a motive, including a text where Robinson, when Twigs asked, why did he do it, replies, I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out. Twigs also positively identified Robinson as the man seen in surveillance video at the crime scene, saying he recognized his clothes and his sunglasses. Twigs also testified Robinson was trying to get hold of a rifle and was interested in engraving bullets. for an upcoming hunting trip. The court saw pictures of bullets found inside the suspected murder weapon, with messages like, hey, fascist, and if you can read this, you are gay. Now, this testimony about rifles and hunting brought Erika Kirk to tears. She has been fighting throughout this whole week to get access to as much evidence as possible to combat wild conspiracy theories and to protect her own First Amendment rights. Kaylee, we may not have seen everything that the prosecution have, but what we did see in court today would appear to go a long way to helping the prosecution prove that there is probable cause to hold Tyler Robinson responsible for her husband's murder. I think they've pretty much proven the case, let alone probable cause. All right, time for the timeline. We have a pair of tickets for Santana and the Doobie Brothers. 1:20:43

Making the rounds today that in our newscast, and just nationally too in the news, is one that in some ways doesn't feel much like a story to me. Well, I'll mention it anyway. The quote-unquote assassination plot or a new assassination plot against President Trump, is there anybody out there who doubts that Iran has been trying to figure out how to get this guy for a long time? Probably since his first term. certainly since his re-election, would anybody be surprised if there's an Iranian component with what happened in Pennsylvania or any other assassination attempt against President Trump? I'm pretty sure, and I think the president pretty much said it that if they, he expects that they would try to get him. And my guess would be if they had the means to do it, they would have done it by now, which is not to say that they're not going to try harder. Because they probably will. But that should come as a surprise to nobody. What also should not come as a surprise to anybody is that conflict with Iran is likely to be the new norm. There's no need for Wall Street to overreact to hostilities increasing or decreasing with Iran. There's no reason for the oil market. to react or overreact to that either. This, I believe, is the new norm. So does Congressman, or former Congressman, Jason Chavez, he was on Fox Business. He says, yeah, this is probably the new norm in dealing with Iran. I think this is the new norm. I think the markets have figured out that there is going to be a degree of instability, that there are going to be flare-ups and conflicts. We have neutered the ability of Iran to actually develop a nuclear bomb, which was goal A, so that has been highly successful. There will be some kinetic action that's happening. Insurance and moving of these tankers will be expensive, but I do think the president was probably very good in working with our NATO allies saying, this is your problem. folks. We are becoming energy independent. Energy is self-sufficient. You have to step up and do more of this. You have to be more engaged and involved. And I think bringing Turkey along with this goes another big step in the right direction in making this all reality. But I think the market's figured out that, yeah, all right, we're going to be these flare-ups. The Iranians are nuts. They don't want to be part of the world community. And the American people are doing the right thing. American president's doing the right thing. And now that's likely to change. Let's just get used to it. 7-10, time for traffic and weathered together. We're checking out the drive again. Here's Skymike. All right downtown, this is northbound, the 45, the Pierce Elevator, right where you do that exit for the East Freeway. I always have to do a NASCAR there, Jimmy. Northbound, it's a minor crash. We'll take a right lane, but it sure does skunch everything up now from the Gulf Freeway side. Let's connect that back up to Scott Street, and you lose about 12 minutes if you do that. Grant Parkway, stay off the feeder, stay off a 529 right there. The police are working on.

From our KTRH, top tax defenders 24-hour weather, sir, and Jeff Eno is here. He's got the forecast for you. A few more clouds than we saw yesterday morning at this time. Looks like we have a better chance of seeing a shower pop up, maybe just a brief shower. That is going to be the case, and we're starting to see on radar down towards Galveston and Texas City, and then over towards the Old River area, some of the showers there, and even some rumbles of thunder possibly out there as well. And that's kind of what we'll be looking at today. Scattered showers and storms, isolated to scattered at best. 92 is where we're headed. Heat index around 101, and we will call it partly sunny. Tonight, partly cloudy. Chance of showers and storms later on, low 79. Now for Saturday, 50-50 shot for those showers. Storms, partly sunny, 92 to high heat index around 102. And then here's the best shot at the rain coming for the weekend. Shows and thunderstorms are likely by Sunday afternoon. We're back to the low 90s under partly sunny skies. Right now, 78. I'm going to get into H-1B visas and potential fraud and concerns in that area. There's also a story out. I don't know if you've seen this yet or not, but I can't wait to ask our next guest, Jessica Vaughn, about this, involving Microsoft. Microsoft evidently firing tons of American employees and getting H-1B visas to import a whole bunch of cheaper labor. More than that story coming up, too. First, though, traffic and weather together. Let's check out the drive again. Here's Skymite. I'm being short just for Jessica Vaughn, and we're checking downtown. It's I-10 Westbound. Right at 45, you've got two little skinny lanes, the tech stop wall of death, and that ongoing construction backed up from 69. Clear the wreck off the pierce elevated northbound at I-10. I'm Skymike. All right, so what is the purpose of the H-1B visa? What are we supposed to be doing with it? We're supposed to be, I guess, bringing in people from overseas to perform jobs where we have labor shortages, right? Where we don't have people who can fill those jobs. I don't think the idea behind the program... is to allow businesses to just bring in cheaper labor by the thousands while laying off or getting rid of employees that cost more. But that is exactly what Microsoft is accused of. Microsoft cut 4,800 jobs after getting H-1B visa approvals to hire 2,273 foreign workers. At least according to this report we're looking at, Jessica Vaughn joins us, Director of Policy Studies at the Center for Immigration Studies. Am I missing something here? Or is this program being abused in a big way? Good morning. No. You're understanding it exactly correctly is that this program was sold to us as a way to bring in talented people from overseas who could do jobs. Americans couldn't do or there weren't enough of. But it has been hijacked by staffing companies and by certain employers who realize that they could use the program to actually. replace American workers and avoid hiring American workers. And that's, you know, it's people like Microsoft. It's, it's notorious in the IT industry in particular. But it's happening in other industries as well. And it's a real problem because they are so concentrated in one particular industry. And so we have American grads who are working hard going to college to earn these degrees. in STEM fields, technology fields, and they find when they graduate, guess what? The jobs are actually going to cheaper workers coming in from abroad. And what we've also learned through our research at my organization, the Center for Immigration Studies, but also now the federal government is looking into the fact that not only are these workers coming from abroad and displacing Americans,

1:30:21

But they're getting the visas through fraud. They don't have the credentials that they're supposed to have. They're simply paying kickbacks to these staffing companies to get the jobs. And once they're here, they want to get on a path to a green card and feel entitled to one and start lobbying for easier paths to stay here. So. using this program as a path to citizenship that they shouldn't be entitled to, and that's a problem too. Tell us how the process works, Jessica. If I'm a company and I want to bring in a foreign worker, am I the one that applies with the United States government to get the H-1B visa, or does the person who's trying to get the job, is that the one who applies for it? First, the employer files paperwork with the Labor Department attesting that this request for foreign workers will not impact the labor market and that they're going to pay a certain prevailing wage, which actually is set pretty low. And they gain that system a lot also by just paying, you know, describing the job differently from what it really is. Then the request goes to the Department of Homeland Security, and they manage the program. It's there, there's such. high demand for these visas that they actually have a lottery to award them. And again, but usually it's a staffing company that's doing this so that they can grab as many visas as possible in the pool and then recruit the workers abroad, usually in India, something like 70 or 80% of the workers come from India. And they apply for the visa at the embassy or consulate in India. And that's where a lot of the fraud happens also, where they just completely... manufacture credentials and pay bribes and so on to get a visa to get to the United States. Okay. So it's a multi-step process which makes it hard to regulate. And it makes it hard to discover, evidently, because you would think that a company like Microsoft, when you're, when you're laying off thousands of people and getting H-1B visas for thousands of people, you would think that would gather somebody's attention. You would think, but, you know, there's so little oversight of this. that the Department of Homeland Security doesn't do a lot of investigation into whether Microsoft is really paying the appropriate wages. The Labor Department has very little reach into this until now that just the other day, the Trump administration Labor Department Inspector General announced that he has launched this investigation into the fraud.

1:33:18

And shockingly suggested that there was some connection to organize crime groups as well who've gotten involved somehow in this program. Wherever there's money to be made, I guess the cartels will follow. But, you know, I think primarily the problems here are the staffing companies who are the ones who recruit people and bring them in and then farm them out to companies like Microsoft. you know, all kinds of American corporations to do this back office work. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for this type of fraud. I have to leave it at that because I'm out of time, Jessica. But thank you so much. So just the other day at NATO, President Trump was basically saying, you know, we're not their trade with Spain. They're horrible people. They don't, you know, they don't live up to their NATO commitments. There's no hope for Spain. Forget about it. I don't want anything to do with these people. And after hearing that, Spain evidently decided that, okay. Maybe we do need to donate more money to NATO. I don't know how much more they're going to donate or how much more cooperative they're going to be when we call upon them to use our military bases. But evidently the president changing his tune a little bit yesterday, now that he's back of the U.S. on Spain. You had issues with, you said you had issues with leaders of Spain, UK. Spain, I will say I did have issues. Also, and I still do. But Spain came back all the way today. Spain was very generous today. You know, I'm going to stop training. What is Spain do there? Hey, mate. They honored a request for lots of payments. And if they didn't, we wouldn't even talk to. They were very bad. They behaved very badly, in my opinion. But there was great unity in that room today. I think one thing that we need to understand, and it's not just with Spain, it's more broadly, as we work with our trading partners, if they want to have access to the U.S. market. and they want to have a constructive trading relationship with us. They also have to be aligned when it comes to economic security and other things. We can't have a situation where countries spurn us on national security matters and expect to trade normally. Now, fortunately, it sounds like the president and his team, based on what I've heard from my colleagues who are with them, have been able to find a path forward with Spain. But we certainly have prepared options for countries that reject national security alignment the president. That is our U.S. trade representative, Jameson Greer making those comments. Isn't that amazing? You know, you would think, part of me think, well, I guess the reason why this works so well for President Trump is the general belief that he does mean, unlike most politicians, he does mean exactly what he says. which is, yeah, no, I'm going to stop training with you. You don't get with the program. I want nothing to do with you. And then he would be willing to basically have nothing to do with him because we really don't need Spain when you get right down to it. I don't think there's anything we're getting from Spain that we can't get somewhere else.

1:49:15

And in fact, Spain might need us a little bit more than, and that's the bottom line. Anytime you're trying to negotiate with somebody, right? If they have to have something they need more than what you need in order to be successful. And the president's very good at figuring that out. And he's more than willing to say what's on his mind, even if what he has to say is not very nice. And he's not afraid about whose feelings he's going to hurt. He just cares about results. And Lord knows he gets results. Y'all have a great weekend. We'll see Monday morning, bright and early at 5 a.m. Hope to see you this afternoon at 1 on AM-950 KPRC.
