91 segmentsAlready a lively start to the day. We've got Tulsi Gabbard Director of National Intelligence on the Hill this morning. Testimony, I'm just guessing. But I bet that Joe Kent thing is going to come up. We'll talk about the latest developments there. Wait to hear some more news from... That side of things. Y'all, we had a little bit of a presser earlier with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, maybe get some clips out of that. But we got lots to talk about right here in our own backyard with lots of action in D.C. and relates back here. On the way today, we're getting over that. News weather and traffic. Remove the biggest stories of the day. We're talking about what matters most in West Michigan and beyond. This is the big three. Now to speak three. I've got a big three, but I think the biggest story for us here at home anyway, it isn't even one of the stories that I'm going to cover today. I know that's shocking. I know that's hard to imagine. Well, it's not one of the big three. Let me put it that way. I'll mention it here in a moment. I'll let you end. As you are always welcome to do so, but first we'll thank the folks that power all of this. The shenanities. Our good friends at Heartland Hall Mortgage, Dave Galloway and the team, ready to help you. We just saw interest rates not going to be moving anytime soon. They're sort of playing the wait and see game at the Fed. But they've already dropped. And what are mortgage rates doing? That's a whole other beast, a whole other animal. Reach out to Dave today. He may be able to help you get ready or prepositioned for what is coming. HHMlending.com. What do you want to buy, refi, home equity line of credit? We've done all three and saved thousands each and every time, just like so many other folks who listen to this program. Every time we've used, the great folks at Hartland Home Mortgage. Number one. Yeah, the stories that matter most should be talking about these around the water cool, the dinner table, the matter where you are. President Trump, warning Iran. No more attacking the neighbors. In fact, he says, you know what? I know Israel did that strike on that oil field, but if you mess around anymore attacking these neighbors, we're going to really give it to you. We'll really let you have it. In the meantime, we won't touch it. But just know, if you keep up all of this, you know, this nonsense, guess what? You're in for it. Now, I don't know who he issues that threat to because I don't know who's alive and who isn't there anymore. I think that's part of the biggest problem if they're facing right now. They've killed everybody. And the guy who they say is in charge, I don't really think is it. Speaking of who's in charge, the Senate moving on the Save America Act, now in the third day of Marathon, four sessions there in D.C., but most of the action, not even in the Senate yesterday, was actually in the House. One of these stories, I don't know if you saw what they moved through, almost 200 House Democrats voted against deporting people. There were 20 that found some common sense, voted against deporting people who commit welfare fraud. So let me get this straight. You say you want to come here, you got to take advantage of everything that we're going to give you, and we're giving you kind of a free ride anyway.
And we don't want to deport people who commit welfare from. With all the fraud we see in Minneapolis, wait until we start digging in Michigan. California, we're already starting to see that too. One of those Democrats who voted against this has a horrific record when it comes to immigration. And she's right here in our own backyard. Third congressional district, Dem, Hillary Skolton. We'll talk on that in just moments. Wait for it. Because there always is more. The FBI was investigating Joe Kent before the note came out. You know, it's interesting. I got an email late into the show, I into the after show yesterday from a guy, and I think it was Dan who said this. Dan said, you know what's interesting? I think, you know, This Joe Kent thing, a lot of people are starting to smell something with it, right? Kind of like I said, you know, something not right out of this whole thing. We found out he was a leaker. He was leaking. Matter of fact, he wasn't even privy to the information that led to what happened in Iran, the strikes, because they would remove him. They found out he was leaking before all of that actually went down. And, yeah, he was on Tucker Carlson too yesterday. We'd talk about some of that and maybe what came out of that. Nothing. Nothing, I don't think anyway, smoking gun, but the fact that he's actually under investigation, there's some folks on social media, make this make sense, that say, oh, see, so now he's a spy, all of a sudden he's come out condemning this war. You got to realize, folks, people's brains are broken after everything in the last six years, and they're going to dig into some of this nonsense. Sometimes nutty's just nutty, and that's all you can say. Pray for them. They certainly could use those prayers. Call Justin now at 616-774-2424-24. That's 6-16-774-24-24-24. West Michigan Live with Justin Barkley on News Radio Wood 1300-106-9 FM. I got to dig into this story, though, because this is the biggest, I think, here locally. Warming trend on the way in Michigan, 52 today. 70 by Sunday! Hello. Like I said, I think it's not even if it won't be part of the big three, but I think it's the biggest story we'll be talking about here in West Michigan. And you know what? I'm all for it. Other than that, let's break down some of the massive stories that we're going to be looking at today. Kyle also, the Midwestern or the Midwesterner.com. I'm sorry, because he ran first time around. She sat on that porch with her Bible, trying to convince folks here in West Michigan. Oh, she's such a moderate. She's such a good old-fashioned moderate, just like you and me. But the truth really hidden underneath the surface is that she's part of the problem that created the issues we're seeing with immigration today. And then again, voting yesterday. And just incredible to watch that you would not remove people who are guilty committing fraud? Make that one make sense. Kyle, welcome in. Thanks for having me. And I will agree with you. I think the biggest story is warm weather. I can't wait. But that being said, yes, Hillary Skolten, her background and her claim to fame when she first ran for the house.
was that she was an immigrant rights attorney, and her mission was to keep illegal aliens in the country. And so those are the sorts of things that she focused on, which is why I don't think it's all that surprising that when she went to D.C. to be in the house, she started voting against these bills that would deport illegal aliens. And so. I mean, for example, she voted against a bill that would block illegal aliens from voting in US elections. And she voted against the SAVE Act. And she voted against deporting illegal aliens that assault police officers. And then there is this bill today, or yesterday, this vote yesterday, that the intent of the bill is to hold illegal aliens accountable for their actions by making the act of defrauding the United States government or stealing benefits intended for U.S. taxpayers a deportable offense. And she voted against that. So she apparently is okay with illegal aliens. stealing benefits, whether it's veterans benefits, or it's SNAP benefits or whatever it is, she's okay with them taking those from U.S. citizens. I just, it's unthinkable. Someone who ran such a... such a moderate campaign to get elected, and yet the truth is anything but she is more radical than you could even imagine with her actual policies. And not only that, but what she was doing before she got to Washington, D.C., and folks, most people don't know about it. And the reason most people don't know about it, is because the media won't go deeper than the surface of the headline a lot of times. They refuse to, and especially when it comes to folks like Hillary Sculton, let's be honest. A lot of these people in the mainstream, a lot of these people at the newspaper TV stations that they want to see people like her running the show. Absolutely. And I think that there was, I think she was able to deceive people because, yes, she has this, she has this appearance. and that she just is going to work with everyone and is polite and nice. But then under the surface, she's a progressive. And that's how she's going to vote to the point where, I mean, to me, that over the last 18 months, the most egregious vote, I think, aside from voting against the SAVE Act. was not deporting illegal aliens when they assault police officers. What we will probably hear from her in her campaign is how much she loves the police and she stands with the police and all of that. But yet if they get assaulted by illegal aliens, she thinks that those individuals deserve to stay in the country. In a day and age, and it's not just illegals these days, it's even folks that are here in the country.
legally. We've seen in the last several weeks, particularly attacks on the synagogue in the other side of the state and in Michigan, we've seen other story after story, even when they are here legally. I don't even know how they allow certain people like this guy had brother who's part of... Hezbo or whatever. I just, how do you allow people with those kind of connections? The vetting process that we're doing, which it's just not serious, or they've done in the past, let me put it that way, just not serious. He was let in, and I think allowed to stay here from the Obama folks. And some of these people that make it, make it in, obviously the illegals, they ought to be sent right back home too. You get into the problems that we're seeing on a daily basis. And he starts to start, oh, it's connect the dots here. Oh, now it makes sense. Kyle, this is, this to me seems common sense. And I think a lot of Americans, particularly with the Save Actors, are seeing that move through the Senate right now. I would agree. It's an 80-20 issue. But apparently 80-20, and even among Democrats, pretty high numbers too, Hillary Scolton doesn't care because why? She cares more about those illegals than she does, as President Trump pointed out of the state of union, than she does the actual Americans. That's right. And especially in West Michigan. This, what she, you know, how she is voting, in my opinion, is not West Michigan values. And so it's going to be interesting to see if Terry DeBore will hold her accountable and bring these things up, because I think it's absolutely critical. The last two elections we have seen, I think Hillary Scolton has gotten a pass on these issues, but the way that she has voted, her voting record, both in this Congress, but then also when Joe Biden and the Democrats were in charge. I think it really gets to, it really highlights the fact that she is for not just the illegal aliens, but criminal illegal aliens. over American citizens. Yeah, this topic came up yesterday with VP JD Vance as stumping in the state. We'll talk about that coming up here in a little bit as well. You can get the latest on those stories all on the way this morning as we try and get through them all. It's a lot to get through the day. But Kyle, we appreciate you taking the time. Hopefully I've got some good plans over the weekend to soak up some of that warmer weather. I can't wait. Thank you, my friend. As always, founder at the Midwestern or the Midwestern or dot news, don't just bookmark it. Do that for sure, but also while you're there, put your name in and your email so you can stay up to date with the stories. The stories you just won't get anywhere else. Back with more in minutes, folks. Don't go anywhere. We're just getting started.
It's West Michigan Live, and this is Wood Radio. Smart speaker, smarter. Stream us. Okay, getting smarter now. It's West Michigan live with Justin Barkley on News Radio Wood 1300 and 1069 FM. Here are your headlines from the Midwestner this Thursday, March 19th. I'm Robin Poffman. It's a Midwesternor.new's original story. It's his fourth visit here to Michigan, Vice President JD Vance, talking about the Trump economy at a manufacturing plant in Auburn Hills. Now, as for the rising cost of gas, JD Vance says it's only temporary. It's not gonna last forever. We're going to take care of business. We're going to come back home. And when that happens, you're going to see energy prices come back down to reality. In other news, Michigan Secretary of State Democrat Jocelyn Benson in Lansing to highlight a major part of her gubernatorial agenda, and that is government subsidized housing. Guy Benson is busy promoting government subsidies as she believes they will fix Michigan's housing crisis. For these stories and more, visit the Midwesternor at the Midwesterner.new.
All right, I got to get it to Joe Kent's story. This is more breaking news. So it comes out the guy was investigated, the FBI looking into him. I, there was more to this story ever said. I told you when they saw this thing break. I got there's more to this story. Keep your powder dry. Hang on, folks. It looks like we may have the answer as to what was really going on behind the scenes, at least a little bit more. It's a little more clear. I get into that in just a moment. First, the good feed store. Thank you to the folks that powered me and the show on a daily basis. They keep me on my feet comfortably and on my toes each and every day. Stay up to date with everything's going on. But the things that matter most, at home with the kids, the girls, you know, keeping family. And all of those fun things going, because that's what really matters, right? So if you feel like you've been missing out throughout the years, particularly recently, maybe it's time that you just walk into the good feet store and see what I've been raving about for years now. Those personalized art support systems that just absolutely make all the difference of the world. You can live life with comfort and confidence each and every single day, whether it's at work or play, no matter what it is that you're willing to do and want to do and get into that's... That's the way to do it. Get out. Reach out to the Good Feed store or walk in, as I said, on 28th Street, right, in for the Costco, or they're in Portage, on Westnage in front of Coles. And you are going to be so thrilled that you did, especially as the weather is starting to heat up here. So the Joe Kent story, we're starting to learn more. We're learning more and more. We had the receipts yesterday of the... All that. Well, how fast he changed. There was a 180 and what he asked the president to do when it came to Iran. And there's going to be people. So don't be, by the way, don't be swayed by this because there's lots of folks online that people's brains are broken and they can't see through this. And I understand because at the end of the day, these people have been through a lot. A lot of these folks have really, I mean, they've really been through it. And I don't blame them. Some of them may be operating bots, et cetera, in a way that's not conducive. But Joe Kent, we now find out the entire time. That's probably why he came out with the letter. It's one thing to resign. I didn't have a problem with that. Matter of fact, as the president said, if he doesn't agree with what's going on, maybe he ought to step down. Maybe we don't want people that feel that way in those positions. But at the end of the day, I thought to myself, you know, this is interesting about what's going on here. It's how he said it and what he said and how far he came out against what he said. There are people that are looking at him like a hero today, but I don't think so. I look at it in a different way. The sources are saying that Joe Kent, the former director of the United States National Counterterror Center, this is from Semaphore, he just resigned. He's now under FBI investigation for allegedly leaking classified information. And the investigation predates his departure. That's the important part. That's the important part. She almost misspoke there. And I think that's important to note. He was under investigation before he resigned.
Now he comes out looking like a hero. In fact, Dan said yesterday, you know, I think there's something else more to this whole scenario. He emailed me and I said, you know, that's a really good point, Dan. Seems like he found the jig was up there with something going on and he made this move preemptive to get out ahead of it. And it makes a lot of sense when you start to consider everything we're looking at. Diving back into Michigan where things matter so much, maybe the most, for what's coming in 2026. The importance of that election cannot be overstated. We talk about it next. Informative. Engaging. It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barkley on News Radio Wood 1300-106.9 FM. Breaking news yesterday, we saw the photo that was released to the guy who was responsible that heinous act and that synagogue on the other side of the state. We're back with another Fox News alert. This just in. Fox has obtained a photo that the Michigan synagogue attacker sent to his sister in Lebanon on the day of the attack. Fox News congressional correspondent Bill Malusian has the details, Bill. Hey, Joey, good afternoon, see you. We just got this photo. We can confirm Fox News has obtained this brand new photo of the Michigan synagogue attacker. Iman Muhammad Ghazali, if we can... There he has dressed in all black. He's got his garb on there and the... the rifle hold us up right now i'm told he sent this photo to his sister to his family in leban what they call the scarf but he's got the scarf on the day of the attack i'm also told that rifle that you see him holding right there is the same rifle that he brought with him to the attack and it was the one that was recovered at the scene now you might see some blurring of the photo there was some arabic writing over that photo that referenced martyrdom and vengeance. We've decided to redact what was written on that photo in order not further amplify that message there. But again, this is... Thank God. And by the way, I was thinking to myself, thank God this evil was stopped. Good men stood in the way. By the way, that's how we save all this. Good men stand up and they take action. And it's not just big stories like this. It's in the little things, too. It's all in the details. One of those good men is James Dixon. He joins us right now. Down I 75 over on X, and this story is just another reminder. I mean, I look at this story, James. I think to myself, how does this guy even allowed to be here? How is he allowed to stay? How do we not know that he's got relatives? His brother is in Hezbollah or whatever it was. He's like a major known terrorist. How do we allow those things? Thank God there were good men standing in the way of what could have been a massive tragedy that day. Good morning, Justin. And, you know, they say weak men make hard times. Yeah. And so after this, what I find fascinating is after this attack, you know, you saw Nolan Friendly. You saw some people say, oh, it's about Tucker Carlson. It's about anti-Semitism. It's about all these different things.
What about the guy who should not have been in America in the first place? No one wants to say the basic thing that's obviously the real problem. You think that guy was a Tucker Carlson listener? They listens to Nick Fuentes and decides to drive to West Bloomfield? No. No. So we just have to be honest about how we got here. The same reason we have synagogues being attacked is the same reason why our shrinking state. somehow has a housing shortage. They have a lot of people who should not be here. That's the problem, okay? And it was all done, by the way. Yes, it's a Democrat, largely Democrat plot, but it's even some others, you know, on the right that are okay with this. It was all done. Well, let's prop up this state. We'll make a little money here on this, that, the other thing, because the state has been so backwards for so long. If we just stop getting in the way and doing things that didn't make sense. We could get this state firing on all cylinders again. And I know that's part of a conversation we wanted to have today. James often talks about making politics local again. And, you know, for me, James, I know you've talked about it. But 2026 in Michigan is just as important as 2024 was for the nation, maybe even more so. Because this is make or break for our state. We've got governor, we got AG, we got secretary of state, we've got a Senate race that's in play and a chance to have some common sense there. We've got here in the west side of the state, the third congressional district, a race heating up where we could gain control, put common sense back into place where right now a radical Democrat is holding that seat. So there are a lot of opportunities. And let's not even get into. all of the specific issues even more closer to home, which is right in your backyard. Right now we're talking about the data center fights and all of those things, even at a township and school board level. It is more important than ever before. You know, people, especially the media, the Democrat Media Alliance, they're going to tell you that this is a midterm election, which is a subliminal message to you to fit this one out because Sean Hannity is not going to talk about it, and Donald Trump won't be on the ballot. No, no, this is not a midterm. This is our final exam. And what I would impress on everyone listening is that in 2027, Michigan could be a very different state if we elect same leadership. And so Michigan will ultimately reflect someone's vision of Michigan. If it's not yours and you're not working that it's a vision that you can live with, it'll be someone else. Why not us? Yeah, that's a very fair point. And by the way, as someone who just got back from the free state of Florida, I will tell you, man, it could be so different. What is going on in Florida right now? They have their own little issues here and there, but the growth?
how free it feels, how different it is. I mean, it's just one of the issues, all right, while it was there, well, you know, they already don't have income taxes. While it was there, they're looking at getting rid of, in fact, the Senate voted on getting rid of property taxes. While I was there, I'm talking about a friend of mine. He's got an eighth grader, a daughter who's now being homeschooled. And the money that those kids get for school follows the student, because it's your money anyway, right? Well, follows the student. So guess what? She's got 10 grand. They can spend on the best tutors for the entire year. She can take piano lessons with it. They could do whatever they like with that money. It's incredible. And so what that creates is a dynamic with that eighth grader by the time they're in college is supercharged. They're skills. They're able to go down rabbit holes. They have the ability to have an independent education that they form and they create their own path and go down rabbit holes as they choose. Whereas our kids in Michigan are going to be stuck in these public schools, heavily influenced by teachers unions. Standards are going to continue to go down across the board or a bottom 10 state in education. And we don't have any... off ramps to get out. Even with Donald Trump offering scholarship vouchers and tax breaks that go with it, Gretchen Whitmer hasn't decided to opt into those because the teachers' unions don't like it. And so if you want a free education, you'd have to go elsewhere. If you want the best education that public schools can offer, bottom 10 state, that's what we have in Michigan. James Dixon right now, down I-75 over on X, one of the... One of the things that I... You know, I look at these stories each and every day. And I, you know, this story about Joe Kent, and then we see Tucker Carlson, and we see, you know, Megyn Kelly and Kenneth Owens and what's called the podcast wars. And to me, it's maddening because what I think people are missing is everyone's brains are being broken. They've been broken since 2020. And really, let's be honest before that. I was just talking about this. on the behind-the-scenes live stream before we got back on the year during a commercial break. And one of the things I said is it, we're watching psychological warfare play out on a daily basis. And there's even the spiritual side of this happening as well that we have to admit to. And so while I see all of this chaos happening, We're missing the big picture, which is you have a say in all of this. And all of the chaos is distracting people from the things that they actually can pay attention to. They actually can dig into and make a difference in. And James, that's the part that's the most frustrating. Absolutely.
You know, Justin, I like to zig when the world zags, right? So all these podcasters are fighting each other and they're trying to work for the glory of themselves. Meanwhile, I've decided, you know, rather than try to go viral online, which does, you know, sometimes happen, I'd rather go viral in person. And so that's why I'm campaigning like at 1892, old school politics, make politics local again. We're going on tour across Michigan talking to our neighbors and trying to help them see how much power you have by simply standing up, showing up, speaking up. And so what I want everyone to do is join me in this movement where May 5th. So in May and August, whether it's schools, whether it's the sheriff's office, what have you. government officials have gotten in the habit of putting millages, property tax hikes that affects your home and your ability to stay in your home on elections when they know people aren't going to show up because they don't want you to show up and vote. They don't want high voter turnout. What they would love is if only, you know, only school parents voted on school millages and only politicians and their staff voted in elections. We have so much power that we're not even choosing to use. Yeah. And so we have to respect the year-round political calendar. And so, Justin, my big mission right now, if there is a May 5th millage in your town, I need you to show up and I need you to vote. No. You know, that's the interesting thing, as you mentioned. And I know there was a big push with Ax My Tax. I'd like to get an update on this. in that effort. We've seen other Republicans also take up, you know, the property tax issue. But, James, the biggest thing, and I like the ideas behind it, but the biggest thing I see, the solution to all of this is being engaged in showing up. on those millages in making sure your voices heard. And it's those awful elections where they hide these things, as you mentioned, on purpose. This is why they do it so that the teachers and whoever else can vote whatever they want in. And they can give themselves all the goodies. But when real people know what's going on, in fact, we saw this here in Rockford. It's a fantastic story. Boy, it got shot down in a hurry. And that, along with Goshen and what happened in Green Charter Township, is the playbook, folks. That right there is the answer. Yes. So, Justin, just a quick tutorial for all the listeners. So if you're listening and you want to see if there is a May 5th Millage in your community, Google Michigan Voter Information Center. You're going to see a tab that says your voter information. Click on what's on the ballot. Then it's going to give you a pulldown of the next upcoming election dates. Select May 5th. Then your county and then look for your community. So I live in Southfield in Oakland County. I'm not listed, which means we do not have a millage. We don't have anything to vote for on May 5th. Great. That means we're in the clear for now.
But if you're one of the many communities where they're trying to slip in a property tax hike in an election where nobody will vote, this is our chance to take power. We're going to show them that, yes, we are paying attention. Yes, we are voting. And unless you're honest enough to ask me in November, when most voters vote, the answer is always going to be no. Yeah. James Dixon, always a pleasure. Wild. Imagine that making sense out of some of the senseless. Yes, truth logic and comments. It's more of a down I-75 over on X, where you can lock in and find also the podcast as well. Follow them all over the place. James, anything else you want to mention or folks can maybe catch up with you where you're making the rounds pounding the pavement. Absolutely. James Dixon podcast at Substack. It's the best place to see me and exit down I-75. Justin, thank you so much. My pleasure, brother. Keep up the fight. All right. Take care. You got it. God bless. More in minutes. After this, of course, your chance to weigh in as well. I got some good news. Put the wraps on it. There is congressional testimony happening today. We've got more on the latest from the Secretary of War. Pete Hegseth. Oh, yeah, we're just getting started in the fastest hour and radio flying by. Breaking down the story. It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barkley on News Radio Wood 1300 and 106.9 FM. All right, so let's take a look at the markets this morning if we... Stock's falling again. The truth isn't negotiable. It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barkley on News Radio Wood 1300 and 1069 FM. Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Thursday, March 19th. I'm Robin Popman. It's a Midwesterner.News original story. More left-leaning ideas from Michigan Secretary of State Democrat Jocelyn Benson, who was in Lansing to highlight a major part of her gubernatorial agenda, government subsidized housing. Guy Benson is busy promoting government subsidies as she believes they will fix Michigan's housing crisis. You're done poaching our industry. You're done poaching our jobs. Vice President JD Vance here in Michigan talking about the economy at a manufacturing plant in Auburn Hills. He was busy promoting President Trump's job growth agenda. But there are so much more that we can do together. There is so much more to be built, so much more to be reclaimed, so much more. to be made anew in the United States of America. For these stories and more, visit the Midwestner at the Midwesterner. News. Our video end today from Tulsi Gabbard and the hearing on Capitol Hill this one. I can't play all of this, but it's part of what DNI said. Assessments. Thank you. I also wanted to ask this because this week there was a high-profile resignation of Director of National Counterterrorism Center. Now, I want to be clear from the outset, I've communicated directly with President Trump my support for Operation Epic Fury, and I was very not only disappointed, but how inappropriate this letter was. And I want to read a statement that and get your personal assessment whether you agree or disagree with that. And that's this. Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First Platform and pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran. Let me just fast forward this only to get to the meat of it what her response is. As we're kind of light on time here. Hang on. Oh, we're getting the spitty wheel of death, folks. Hang on. Provided the president with the intelligence assessments, and the president is elected by the American people and makes his own decisions based on the information that's available to him. But do you agree with, does that statement he made blaming Israel concern you? Yes. My next question is... By the way, there's going to be more come out from that. There's more on Joe Kent on Tucker Carlson last night, too, that we'll have to dig through as well. This story is just starting to develop, folks. I don't think we've even seen the beginning start to scratch the surface on what was really going on there. We'll have more of that as the days go on, and the Glenn Beck program. Rolls right along after this. Make it a great one, folks. Wishing you the best in the meantime. God bless.
