Government Re-Opens, Mail In Ballots, and "Wife Privlege" | Guest: Ryan Schmelz

What's really going on across Southwest Florida before we jump into the daybreak first take? Well, and across the world. The mega millions jackpot has grown to 965 million for tomorrow's drawing. So if you're a mega millionth type of person, get on that. And by the way, I will play. And I will be here if I win, but there will be signs. There will be signs that I've won. There'll be a vehicle outside waiting for me to leave, and I will never drive again. And I want you all to know that would be the first thing I would do. I would hire a driver if I won the mega millions. Speaking of money, the U.S. meant in Philadelphia created its last penny yesterday as it ends making pennies for good. The cost of making one penny is four cents. That's crazy to think about, right? The cost of one penny. To make one penny. It is four cents. But if you worked on the line, would you take that last? I would take that last penny. I got to get it, but I'm sure it went into some kind of other Smithsonian or a museum or whatnot. The Walt Disney Company of absorbing 30 million a week losses as long as their war with YouTube TV continues. ABC and ESPN haven't been available on the platform due to a contract dispute. And how about this? Amy Chuck Schumer has deleted all her pre-weight loss photos from her social media accounts. I leave mine up there. If you look at the first picture I ever took with Senator Rick Scott, I'm massive. I'm like 270 pounds. I'm rolling around like a big old tubby tub. And I leave them up there. It reminds me not to go crazy again. And speaking of going crazy, did you see that the McRib is back? Rob, I got to ask, are you a McRib eater? Not particularly. I don't like them either. It's never one of those things, but I know people. I don't know why everybody gets so obsessed with them. Right. They're not that good. No, they're not. And what happened to the Monopoly game, McDonald's? How come that came in game? That went so fast. There's no way anybody won anything. I'm not believing it. I didn't believe it the first time. And you said you changed the game. I didn't see anybody who went anything the second time. And I feel like it started one week after it ended. Well, it's not as fun to do the Monopoly anymore. Because remember when you used to get like the game board and put your stickers on it. Now you have to scan the pieces and keep the pieces. And do it all in their mobile app. Right.

Trump ends the longest shutdown in U.S. history. A win. For law and order. And what a win. I came in today and I always listened to like the early part of Fox News, right? I listened to like the headlines trying to make in case I miss anything, right? And not this morning. I listened to all I do is win all the way in, all the way in over and over, windows down, loud and proud so that everyone would know at 5.15 in the morning. that Republicans have won. But did we? We'll find out as we get deeper into this story coming up at around 635 this morning when we talked to Ryan Schmels from Fox News and find out, is this going to be something that is great, bad, great? What's the inside story? We're going to get the inside story coming up at 635. Speaker Mike Johnson, though, had a moment where he let Chuck Schumer know he's not down for any... Seven minutes in heaven, all right? Don't ask me to go into the back closet, he says. The biggest objection that I had to Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries were playing political games with people's lives when they shut the government down was Chuck Schumer came out and said the quiet part out loud. I don't even think you realize he has no self-awareness. But he came and cried to all of you that I would not agree to go into a back room and make a four-corner's agreement on these issues. That just he and I and Hakeem Jeffries and John Thune would go in a room and make this decision for the entire... population of America and block out all of our colleagues as if they had no voice in it. That is why Washington is broken. That's why Congress hasn't worked well for people. That's why they don't have a lot of faith in what goes on here. And I'm committed to trying to restore that faith. And one way we do that is we get back to regular order. We allow all the duly elected members of this body to have their voices heard. I'm not playing games and Chuck Schumer. I'm not going in a back room with you and making a Four Corners deal on anything. And I hope you understand that. Thank you all. We got the government open. Let's celebrate tonight. Let's celebrate. Like, I got to, I'd be like Rob, Jeff wants to meet me in the back room. Can you come with me because I don't know if I'm going to come out or if he's going to like, I don't know. You know, you've got to protect yourself for weird people like Chuck Schumer. But the real deal is, is Chuck Schumer is getting ready to be. Bye, bye.

I've never seen the Democrats push so hard against him for like he can go to these eight people, these eight other Democrats that decided to open the government. Like Chuck Schumer can go to them and be like, I swear, I will go to your office and fight you. What is you going to do? He can just say don't do it. And then if they do it, it's free will. It's America. You have that right. Chuck Schumer is the Democrats Mitch McConnell. He's got to go. Exactly. That was my Mitch interview. You see my Mr. President? That is, you know, Mitch McConnell has lost his, like more than one time, just gone. Just gone. More than one time, just not there. It's weird. Hey, Mitch, what's your last name? It's crazy, right? I know it is. So we'll get more into that coming up at 635 this morning. Kristi Noem hails Florida crackdown over 150 illegal immigrant sex offenders busted in a massive operation. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announces Florida's operation criminal return nabbed 150 plus illegal immigrant sex offenders crediting Governor Ron DeSantis in the partnership of Florida. Our partnership with Florida is absolutely amazing. This operation was called Operation Criminal Return. I call it... Operation Dirtbag, because these individuals were sex offenders, but not just sex offenders, they targeted children. So sexual assault, battery, attempted homicide. These 150 individuals will be gone. Off of our streets, our kids will be safer. And this partnership with Ron DeSantis and Florida is a model that we want to replicate across the country. These individuals should have never been in our country to begin with. The fact that they were sexual deviance and perverts. And now we've gotten them off of our streets. It's remarkable, and we need to do more of it. She does want to model it for the rest of the country, by the way. She's ready to take it to Chicago during the, what do they call it, the Midway Blitz that they're doing in Chicago, which, by the way, have you heard the results of this thing in Chicago? Man, they have brought down so much. Listen to this. Homicides down 16%, shootings down 35%, robberies down 41%. And carjackings? almost 50% down. And that is a great stat to show you what happens when you allow America to go into your city and clean it up. By the way, this is a topic I got into an argument yesterday about mail-in ballots and... and about government getting involved in it. And it was such a great debate that I'm going to bring it up later again on the show. It basically ties right into this. And last but not least, in our local story, if you are a Cape Coral resident, you have to be excited about what you saw on the news. It is official.

Cape Coral's iconic Big John statue restored just in time for Holiday Shear. Now, it was restored by Clinton Strand. Now, if you don't know who Clinton Strand is, he's the owner of Brand 1, but he's also deeply involved in Blue Line Bears. Blue Line Bears is an organization that takes a bear. They create a bear. So if your loved one is a... law enforcement officer and dies in the line of duty, they take that uniform and make a teddy bear out of it. Take the fallen deputy, the fallen officer's uniform, and make a... teddy bear out of it and deliver it to the family. Blue Line Bears has exploded. It started out as a little small organization with a high school girl and Cape Coral and now she's out of high school and the organization is massive. But I got to give it to Clinton Strand for doing this and why he did it. Here is Clinton Strand's explanation of Big John. Big John's also owned by a gentleman named Elmer Tabor. He's a good friend of mine. He kind of reached out and wanted to know if I would attempt to fix. Big John and restore him back to what he used to be, and I said absolutely would. Tabor is one of the early residents of Cape Coral, and this was part of his family. Him being such a good friend of mine, I feel like he's part of my family too. So it all started out as a little bit of a misconception of what the repair is going to entail. The internal components that hold them in place were all rotted away from over the years, and we had to replace everything. So it's kind of a full rebuild. Something will be in Big John's place playing Christmas music. I'm hoping it's him. So. He'll be 30 feet tall, two feet taller than the original. But I don't think he has legs anymore. I think he's just from the waist up now. I don't think they recreated the legs. But we'll wait and make it a big deal, and we'll let you know as soon as it is back in place. But as a Cape Coral resident, you have to be as excited as Fort Myers Beach was when they got their clock back. What a great thing for Southwest Florida as we continue to still rebuild. after Hurricane Ian and Milton and so many others that came through Southwest Florida as we got through it this year. We're almost there. November 30th, that's the end of hurricane season. Feels like it's way too cold outside for a hurricane to come through. But, you know, I don't want to say anything before it's time, right? We'll have to get with Zach as soon as we get to the end of the month. But he says we're pretty much clear for the month. If this is Daybreak on 925 Fox News, I'm your host. Jason Jay Jones on this Thursday morning. Byron Donalds's coming up later on at 806. Don't miss that. It's going to be something I can't wait. I'm going to tie in a segment that we do in just a few moments into that interview and I'll talk to you more about it, but please hang out with us all morning long here on daybreak. Yesterday I was out and about running around with the fam and doing a couple of things. The wife trying to get me to switch from holiday. decoration shopping. She's like, you know, as soon as you give me the green light to start, you know, doing the regular shopping, then I'll go ahead and stop decorating shopping. I'm like, there's no win in that for me. It only gets worse. Like, there's no win in that for me. No, keep doing the decorating shop. It's definitely cheaper than the other side of it. Yeah, absolutely. Keep on buying decorations. I'm good with it. But as we did that, she ended up talking to me, going out, grabbing a couple of things. And I see this lady, and she's walking with her husband, and she has a shirt on that says wife privilege. And I thought it said white privilege at first. And I was like, oh, my goodness, that's, that's raw. You're just wearing that out of public. So I walk up and I go, hey, what's wife privilege? She's got a cart and it's loaded. She goes, well, we came here from milk. And it's $187, $200 later. This is what it'll be like. That's my privilege. And I laughed and I kind of joked and he kind of looked at me like, what am I supposed to do? And she was kind of vocal. She talked about some other things. But then I started thinking, man, there could be a lot of things that could be considered a wife privilege. What privilege does your wife have that you don't? I'll give you a good example, thermostat immunity. I have zero power. Now, normally, when I grew up, my dad had all the juice. I don't know where it switched sometime in my life where my wife now controls that thermostat. Now, I am the sneaky one that'll walk. I'm going to get a cup of water. I'll walk by a tink, turn it up a little bit. Just tad. Got to stop that air from flowing, making me cold. She catches me half of the time. But I just blame it on my daughter. She did it.

We already know about the shopping card. I wrote that one down. Also, selective hearing. She hears you whispered pizza from the other room. But won't hear you say anything else like, hey, the dog crapped on the floor. You don't hear. Hey! She don't hear that. That's your wife privilege. I just had to share this shirt with you, man. There are so many people out there that have these crazy shirts out there. And when I start seeing them like this, I got to share it with you, right? Wife privilege. Just so you know, I immediately started a online store, and I'll be slinging these shirts later on today, selling them to everybody. I was like, wow, you can sell these. You know that? She was like, I just made it with my cricket machine. I was like, that's cool. You should sell these. They're fun. I think my wife would want one. If she didn't see me have that conversation, which I'm actually excited for because I think it would have changed the dynamic of everything we were doing that day and me trying to keep the spending under wraps. You guys know what that's like, right? The spending under wraps are I the only one. I think we need a husband bill of rights. You know what I'm saying? Things that matter to us that can't be superseded because it's written in the marriage constitution. Oh, that's a good one. Now we need a marriage constitution. All these things that we need to do. We need to make it happen. They really got me going when I saw the shirt. I was like immediately thinking, man, we got to, we need something to protect us husbands and the men of the world. Please. I know you wives are thinking. I don't think so.

So one of the things I told you I got into a little debate and I got into a little discussion about mail-in ballots. And I said, well, I don't see a clear path to clean mail-in ballots. And I will bring that up later on. And I want to see if Byron. Byron is. We've talked about it before, but I need to see that clean path. How do you get a clean path nationwide without the government with their arm into mail-in ballots? How do they do that? So when I started thinking about that, I know we talked about this yesterday. How do you do that? What is the way to do that? How do you get into the mail-in ballot, right, to... How do you get into that mail-in? How do you change it? How do you make it right? Right? Because what the person said to me is that, well, the older people of Southwest Florida, they vote mail-in ballot, and it benefits Republicans. And I go, well, Republicans are going to win. This is a Republican-majority state. And I would find it hard for a Republican who normally mails in their ballot, who told they have to go to the polls to say, no, I'm not even participating now. They're still going to go. But they said what happens of the, I guess it's like 60% or 50%? What happens when that 50%? How much of that 50% doesn't go to the actual polls was the question? And I said, I don't know, none. I think they all go. The only people that aren't going to go to the polls are the people that don't care or uninformed. That's the people that don't go. If you're uninformed in life and you're going through with blinders on in life, you don't go to the polls. Those are the people that don't vote. You know it. You have one or two friends. You're like, hey, do you vote? And they're like, no, why not? Because they're uninformed. They wrote through life like there's, you know, eight hours in a work day. Dinner's at five o'clock. Everyone goes to bed at seven. Like there's, you know, they have a routine in their life and they're not going to change it. And they're not worried about how life changes for them. They're not paying attention. Pay attention. It matters. I don't know how to really get into this, but I'm going to tell you that it's something I'm going to continue to dive into. How do we get into it? And I'm going to ask Byron at 806, his opinion on it, plus a couple of other things as well when it comes to it. Coming up next, the shutdown is over. It took 41 days. Last night, probably after all of you, most of you went to bed, President Trump ordered everybody to the Oval Office so he could sign it. Everybody was there. Like, get up, get at the office. Welcome back to daybreak here on 92-5 Fox News right all along as we are going to hopefully have Ryan Smells on the show here in a little bit talking about the shutdown and what is going on across southwest Florida for the shutdown as well. As we have seen the airport delays and what really worries me when it comes to the shutdown. is that we're being told that even though we're out of it now, 41 days, we're done with it. We've moved on if you're just waking up today. Yes, late last night, President Trump signed the shutdown ending and put the bill in a place and we're good to go. We're running. But there are very little. things when it comes to it, and we're going to talk to Ryan more about it. We're going to talk to Ryan about the health care side of it, the snap side of it. We're going to win the missed paychecks and how this affects us in the future and when this is going to become an issue again. I think that's the question we all ask ourselves. So joining us now on the show to discuss the shutdown ending is from Fox News. Ryan Smells. Ryan, good morning. Welcome to the show. Ryan, this is a big win for America, but Democrats are still mad. It was a pretty interesting day yesterday. By the end of the night, you had a Democrat in a swing district getting into an argument with the number two House Democrat, Catherine Clark, over a decision to condemn, you know, Chewy Garcia, who's a congressman from Illinois, who allegedly, you know, filed, decided not to run for reelection, but waited all the way up to the filing deadline to allow his chief of staff. to be the only candidate in the race. Yeah, things got pretty toxic yesterday. Right. And that's done quite a bit, Ryan. You know, people setting up their, whoever's going to take over for them afterwards. Like, I feel like that happens quite a bit. But it was crazy. Now, this has ended the shutdown. The government's back open. What does this mean for SNAP benefits? Let's go to the thing that everybody wants to talk about. They're back, right, for everyone. They're back, and I believe they are funded now all the way until the next fiscal year because, you know, everyone keeps saying, well, we're going to be back in this mess in January. Well, not quite. There were three appropriations bills that were passed as part of this package, and that funds... several agencies all the way through next year. And that includes the VA. That includes the Department of Agriculture. So, you know, these agencies are now funded and they'll be good to go. And so the next shutdown we hit, if we do hit another shutdown, we won't be exactly seeing the same impacts. It'll be a little alleviated, especially if they're able to get some more of these bills done, these appropriations bills. There's 12 them. They got three of them done now. The more they get done before then, the less of a burden of this shutdown is going to be next time we hit one. Is TSA a part of that, the funded through September?

No, they're not. They're not. So we get right back to the TSA argument coming up in January? Oh, yes. Oh, yes. And true pay as well. They haven't gotten the defense bill done. So that'll be. Why do you believe they didn't put, I mean, TSA was a big one. Like that was one of the things that pushed, I think actually the travel scare and everybody getting nervous about getting close to Thanksgiving. I think that kind of pushed eight of these Dems over. Why do you think they didn't put that in? Well, the three bills that they were talking about, the three appropriations bills, Bill Convea, Ag, and I forget what the other one was, those are usually the appropriations bills that are least partisan. And so what they decided to do is that they decided to go into a conference committee and negotiate those bills. The other ones just weren't ready. These were the three that were ready. So they decided to add that to the CR and essentially... you know, get them funded and say that they could have some, at least some victory here with the appropriations process. When you're doing something like the defense bill or, you know, the Department of Transportation, sometimes those negotiations take a little bit longer and could be a little more divisive. So those bills just simply weren't ready is what it looked like. So we are, how long do we have on this shutdown before we are dealing with it again, Ryan? the end of January and the reason there's actually a reason for that there were some who wanted a December date essentially because you know they don't want to wait till all the way until January to get the get the government fully funded but Conservative members, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, you know, kind of fought for this January deadline. And the reason for that is because they do not want to put lawmakers under the pressure in December to try and pass or fully fund the government right before Christmas. They call it the Christmas omnibus. And conservatives have been warning about this for quite a number of years now. And so they decided if you wait until January or give a deadline of January. That'll keep lawmakers from trying to cram all this work to be done right before Christmas because oftentimes lawmakers want to get home for the holidays. And a lot of times they'll do what's called an omnibus, which is one giant bill to fund the entire government for an entire fiscal year. And conservatives have oftentimes cautioned against that and said that's not a good way to do government. Now, I do know that this Obamacare is dead still in the NCR, right? We're not funding Obamacare anymore. Right. So what's next for health care, Ryan? What's next for health care? Well, there's going to be a vote in December at some point. John Thune has guaranteed that on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Obviously, there's no guarantee that passes. So right now, there are some negotiations that are being talked about that Democrats proposed a discharge petition yesterday to extend the program for three years. We'll see if any Republicans sign on to that. But as of right now, it looks like this is something that's going to have to be negotiated between now and then. And we'll see.

if either side is willing to compromise here. I think the bigger fear is that this is the time of year that everyone actually, you know, it's open enrollment time. People are out there looking for new insurance. They're checking whether or not their insurance they're currently paying is better. And it's definitely not going to be fixed before the end of December. Do you think there'll be some way to open enrollment again for everybody? Or does everybody have to find a solution by the end of December? And I know that's not maybe your expertise, but I wanted to know if you had an insight on that. Well, there's some Republicans who are open to a one-year extension. Whether there's enough open to one-year extension, we don't know. You know, there's been some compromise bills floated. We hope to see if anyone's going to be willing to jump on that on the leadership side. So do you believe that this is a great push for America, or are we just kicking a can down the road, Ryan? My final question before we wrap up. Well, you know, not everything's kicked down the road. Some of the government is fully funded. So this is one of the first times you've actually seen the appropriations process really practiced in some time. I mean, there might be some people who disagree with how it was done when you package three of the 12 bills together. But, you know, you... They're one step closer to what they call regular order, and it seems like yesterday was at least a step in that direction. Right, regular order would be great. Do you think Chuck Schumer's gone? I'm sorry, I've said it was last question. I'm lying to you. I was completely lying, Ryan. Sorry, I apologize. I just Chuck Schumer came into my head because I've been watching all these videos of the Democrats just blaming Chuck Schumer for allowing eight people or eight other Democrats to cross over to open the government. I don't feel like he has any leverage over those people like he can. like put him in a back room and beat him up if they don't. But are they going after him? Is he done? Is this the last time we're going to see Chuck Schumer dealing with something like this? Are they going to push him out of leadership? Well, I'm sure you saw my question with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez yesterday. She's not exactly one jumping on board, even though she's the one who's getting all the pressure to primary him. You know, there were some other people who've called on him to resign. The number's growing in the house, but no senators notably have called on Chuck Schumer to go. So, I mean, there's going to be a lot of. He's going to be under the microscope between now and then, and we'll see. Ryan, thank you so much for being on the show with us, man. Where is it going? January 20th. It's crazy to think that we only have TSA funded through January 20th. The good news is all your holiday travel is covered and you don't have to worry about holiday travel. But the one thing that we're being told is that even though the shutdown has ended, the delays could still extend at the airports based on the fact that TSA is in the process of being updated. I don't know if I fully believe that. These guys are going to be stoked to get back to work. These guys and galsies air traffic controllers get their paychecks back. They're about to get a big old. They just did a Christmas savings account without even knowing because they about to get back pay for what? 41 days. There you go. You just did a Christmas savings account without even trying. Thank you, America. I'm trying to give you a silver lining in this horrible cloud because that's what it seems to be for those who getting to get a paycheck for 41.

I want you to know if I didn't get a paycheck for 41 days, I wouldn't be here. You want to jump in? Yeah, honestly, I think the airlines are going to approach this very cautiously just based on the fact that we're only funded for transportation services through the end of January. So for these airliners to ramp up their service over the next couple of weeks just to ramp it back down. I think you're going to see some hesitation from the airlines until we're a more long-term solution. Yeah, moderation in flights, I think, Rob, like, yeah. So they've already kind of cut down on those flights, and I don't think you're going to see an increased number of flights for the holidays. I think you're going to see a throttle. And you're going to see more expensive tickets. Absolutely. The throttle will happen. And you think more expensive tickets? I don't know, man. You can fly. I can fly the lawn chair in the sky for no money. But if demand continues to increase for airliners in travel who are not going to be scaling up their operation, the cost per ticket will go up because of supply and demand. You want me ruin your day real quick? Have you ever flown Frontier Airlines? I have, yes. I had a friend. I was flying home to see, or flying up north to see my daughter, right? And I'm flying Frontier, and I'm telling this girl about her name's Betty. And I'm like, hey, Betty, I'm flying frontier. She's like, ooh, I'm sorry you're going to have to sit in a lawn chair for three hours. And I was like, what do you mean? It's a plane. She's like, no, it's a lawn chair. And I was like, what do you mean? I get on the plane. And all I think about for the next two and a half hours is that I'm sitting in a lawn chair. And you see it, you feel it. There's no cushion on a frontier plane seat. It's like sitting in one of those bus depot stations where they got the hard seats that they can wipe down after the homeless pee on it. Right, you know what I'm talking about, right? Yeah. Same type of concept. So it only costs you $74 to fly somewhere. Your bag is 140. Your carry-on is 300, and so does 900, but they'll get their money one way or another. But nonetheless, you still don't get comfort. I think you're going to see big budget airlines kind of also scale backups, and you will see a prominent rise in smaller regional carriers like Allegiant. for budget travel. For those who don't know, Rob is a pilot. So anytime I talk about flying, he wants to jump in. So I know that already. So as soon as I start talking about flying, Rob's like looking at me, turns out his mind. I'm like, all right, Rob, let's talk about flying. Let's talk about pilots. Let's talk about, you know, and it's crazy thing is, is that he still wants to be a producer for daybreak knowing he could go fly jets around the world. I just, I'm like, I'm flying jets. You talk about a hard one. This was hard. I got to let you know. It was difficult call. Good morning. Welcome back to daybreak here on 925 Fox News. Looking at the clock. It's time now for that mag a minute. Hey, everybody. It's Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for the White House. It's time for the MAGA Minute on 925 Fox News. And I'm calling today for... insurance companies not to be paid, but for the money, this massive amount of money, to be paid directly to the people of our country so that they can buy their own health care, which will be far better and far less expensive than the disaster known as Obamacare. I think great support. I've even had Democrat support. So we want the money that would be going to the insurance company, which is hundreds of billions of dollars. You know, their stock prices have gone up by a thousand percent in many cases, a thousand percent over a short period of time, because our country stupidly pays them so much money with this Obamacare scandal. So I want the money to go directly to you, the people. And you go out and you'll buy your own health insurance and you'll negotiate different plans and you'll get much better insurance. And you will be an entrepreneur for yourself. So I'm always willing to work with anyone, including the other party. We'll work on something having to do with health care. We can do a lot better. We can do great. We can do great. We can make health care great again. And we can. We just have to figure out how. Now, yesterday I told you I wasn't real sure. You give us the money. Insurance people drive up the prices. I've got a solution. If they are going to give us all the money to buy our own insurance and that's going to help us discount our own insurance premiums, I want them to open it up so we can buy it from any state from anybody. If you make that free market, you open up the market to where all the insurance companies are competing against each other for every American, no matter where they live. then we're doing the right thing. We've got to do the same thing for homeowners insurance. We've got to do it for every insurance deregulated so you can buy it across state lines, buy it anywhere you need it, right? Anywhere you can find it. Let them all compete for that. And then that would work. Then it truly would. It would work. Give us the money, right, so that the dumb people could decide not to buy insurance and spend it on something stupid. Right? And then the rest of us can go get health insurance for our family, and we can find a great deal because of the competitive market that will happen. But not a competitive market if you keep it limited to just two or three choices inside a state. That works on all insurances, by the way, no matter where you're at. I want to know what drives you to the polls.
