Trump's "Golden Fleet", Desantis Ditching Tolls for Residents, and a Legislative Wishlist

This is Daybreak with Jason Jay Jones on 92-5 Fox News. Welcome to Tuesday, December 22nd, 2025. It's the night before the night before. If you want to really put it into perspective, as we are all getting ready for Christmas in the new year and what's to come in 2006. I'm going to start and probably end the show with this story of what I call something so empowering for my young son. And... Yesterday, I talked about it. My son was on his way to, and let me be honest, his first ever hockey tournament. This kids are out of school, so a lot of different organizations will put together different tournaments. There was one yesterday. There's one coming up on January 2nd. And this one is the Southwest Elite, and they're a travel hockey team. We're going to get into that in a minute. But they did a, anybody can sign up, but then they split them up. quote unquote evenly. And they did a pretty good job. And for their age groups. And I think this was like eight, nine and ten year olds in this group, eight and nine year olds mainly and a few ten year olds in this group of players. And Finn normally plays a half sheet of ice. If you know what that means, it's like a half rink. Okay. When he plays, he's only eight years old. It's my son. And he's only seven, actually. And eight, seven, eight. I don't know. And as he plays, and as he plays, he, um, seven, by the way, I just blew me away that I had to see here and think about that for a second. Sorry. Anyway, uh, so he, he has to play a full sheet of ice. And now it's a big net instead of a little net. And things have changed. It's like a regulation size net. And, and he's just a little tiny thing. So he goes in there. And it's a round robin type of tournament. And he gets with his team. And he's one of the four goalies. And there's actually three goalies. So he gets there. The first game they tie played great, but they had a two to two tie. And it's based on points. And I don't know how that works, but it's based on a two to two tie. And then. And then the very next game, he had to fill in for somebody. So next thing you know, he was playing two games in a row for another team. But then he took a game off and then played three games for his own team. The first game was a tie. The second game was a loss. The third game was a win. So they went in to the playoffs, sort of speak, as fourth seed. They had the worst record out of all four teams. They went in and won their first game, and I may get it, but I feel like it was 4 to 1 at the end, maybe 4 to 2. The whole team does the goalie rush. Finn is static. He says, by the way, they were wearing orange jerseys, and they'd flip it over, and they'd be a white jersey. And he says, we play better when they're orange jerseys. We've got to be orange every game. I'm like, it's not up to that. It's whoever the home team is. He's like, we've got to be orange. Luckily enough for the playoffs.

They wore orange the whole time, which motivated this young man, but it gets even better. From fourth seed, they go up against the first seed and beat them four to one. They now are in the championship game as a fourth seed. They go in to play, I think, the second seed. And at that time, they also won five to three. Finn, like, it was a championship moment. They won the tournament from fourth seed to championship. I got to experience it not only as a father. But I got to experience it for him to watch his first ever tournament to walk away with a gold medal, made his day and motivated him to want to do this sport for the rest of his life. And I've had more fun yesterday and I'm addicted. And I want to let everyone know to tournament life as a hockey dad. It's like a full day tailgate, Rob. I just got to let you know. It's legitimately like a full day tailgate. Everybody's got tents out and they bring snacks and hockey nets for kids to play with and play in the street. The back parking lot is just like a playland for all the kids to warm up and just cut loose. And by warm up, I mean to thaw out from playing on the ice for all day long. They need that. And I didn't realize that until I was like, oh, now I get it. Now I get it. Fully unprepared. I was fully unprepared for a full day of hockey. I left here in dress pants and then went to a Hertz Arena and wore dress pants all day. Woo! Man, it was a cold one in those pants. I just want to let you know. But what a great moment watching him do so well. And shoutouts to all the parents, shoutouts to the coaches. And it's even greater because his rec coach, he had to play against. And he's also a Michigan fan. So here's the best part. Game two, we're playing them, right? And he's playing against his rec coach and his rec son. And they know each other. It's a lot of fun, right? And at the very last two minutes of the game, we're coming back. And we're getting, I mean, we're coming back. We were down like 4-1. We're coming back hard, right? There's like a minute left in the game. One of his players goes down and is down for like 40. The clock doesn't stop. He's down for like 45 seconds. He gets back up. There's like 15 seconds. We got no shot of getting that last goal. I walk up to them. I said, way to show your true Michigan colors coach. Was that a faked injury? I was just kidding. The kid was doing well and he got up and I laughed. We laughed it off and it was always a good time. But he's like, you notice I always say go blue. I said, I get it. And you notice that the other kid that's Ohio State fan is on our team and we won. I just want to let you be known. That's just the way it works. There's two Ohio State fan kids playing and they were champions this week, just so you know. But it was fun. Nonetheless, I had a great time. Thank you to everybody who were so nice. And the people that listen there always say, you know, and I was like, I came straight from the show that we heard.

We heard. But he is getting it. And maybe, you know what I'll do is coming up later on. I'll give you a clip of me when he wins. And they win the championship. It's actually a video of the, I call it the goalie smash. The whole team goes after and celebrates with the goalie because, you know, he blocked enough shots to help them win. And it's just a highlighted moment. I just love it. I'm into it. And so there you go. Now, something I want to discuss when it comes to this is that at the same time, I'm watching. Fox News, and they start saying youth sports crisis, skyrocketing costs, sidelining hardworking American families. The average cost per child now is $1,000 a year for a kid to go play youth sports. Parents are pouring $40 billion annually into youth sports, nearly twice the revenue of the NFL. And I've seen it now with two different sports in my... parenting level. The first one was competitive cheer. And just so you know, that's not a cheap sport. That is 100% of sport. And it will cost you every bit of $10,000 a year. Every bit of it. As a matter of fact, even if you do Pop Warner, it's going to cost you even more. When I saw this $1,000 per year, I said no way. Now I will say that, and I want to go ahead and say this now, there are rec leagues for different sports and they're, but they're hard to come by. And there's so many questions when it comes to it. We've talked about the questions when it comes to Pop Warner football. The background checks, the scandals within it. Like, it's something that you have to question and have they tightened that up. But at the same time, after eighth grade, it's high school sports or there is no rec sports. That's the other side of this. We have got to enhance the ability to allow people to play rec sports who aren't serious enough to go try out for a varsity basketball team at their kids' school. And just for the record, I know where rec hockey is. I know where rec soccer is, but rec basketball is very slim in my own personal knowledge. And yet... You have two sports complex putting in basketball places, but not ice, one in Benita, one in Cawyer. You know, hockey has grown like 5%, and there's over 500 players playing at Hertz Arena. And maybe, let's just say, one third of those is coming from Cawyer County. It's a loss of revenue. And I hope that someone truly figures out how to do that. But.

More directly to the rec sports, and I want to really get on this before I shift on because we're talking sports this morning. Get your kids involved. Take them out to everything. This is the third sport we've done with Finn, and he's only seven years old. It started with soccer. He was like, eh. It was hot. It really wasn't his thing. But he was little. And then he got into baseball and he likes that. He wants to do it again. And the issue is now I have a kid who's a diehard hockey guy who's going to end up playing hockey year round 24-7. And now he wants to play baseball and football. And I've already had this conversation with a parent who says, it's going to be crazy. The average parent spends, are you ready for this? Three and a half hours daily. the average parent with kids sports in one way or another, shuttling their kids somewhere involving in sports. And that fact is just staggering when you think about how much time you spend. The time is money and the money is money. But I will tell you something that everyone needs to know. We could go into the biggest slump. It could be the next Great Depression. And parents would figure out how to pay for their kids hockey and how to pay for their kids cheer and how to pay for their kids' travel baseball and how to pay for their kids' camps. They will do this at all cost. It's crazy to think why. But how do you really fix this? The Ashtman Institute of Sports and Society has an idea. Here you go. Recreation leagues have park and wrecks say this is really important that we have low-cost sports up through at least at least six or seventh or maybe eighth grade and prioritize the field space. This can be done that we don't need the federal government to come in and solve the problem here. This can be done on a community by community basis by a community saying look we want sports to be accessible and a great experience for all kids and we're going to use our fields and our gym space to to make sure that those local leagues come back. Prioritize the field space. Hear what he says there. Prioritize the rink space. Prioritize the court space. Prioritize some of it for rec, but make sure it's 50-50. The travel leagues have taken over fields and every part of it. And it makes it hard for these rec leagues to get it. And I try to urge these travel leagues to understand that if you don't embrace these younger rec leagues, you're going to lose the kids. You're going to lose the kids. So I call out to the county commissioners of both counties to implement this within their own ranks. City of Four Myers. Implement this at your places of sports complexes and make it so that a portion of this is designated for rec sports. And I know a lot of it does. And everyone will say we already do that. But I don't believe we do it enough. And I would like to see it way more increased. And the amount of available space for the rec leagues is definitely minuscule compared to what it is for the travel leagues. Writing announcement of the new Golden Fleet, we're calling it the Golden Fleet that we're building for the United States Navy. As you know, we're desperately in need of ships. Our ships are, some of them have gotten old and tired and obsolete, and we're going to go the exact opposite direction. Right? Now we have a golden fleet. By the way, the ships will all be made of gold, solid gold. And everything in it will be gold, gold, gold, gold, gold. Court member! You know, I sometimes wonder if Mike Myers had some kind of weird connection because here's the next thing. You know what it's going to be on these ships? You want to know? Let me let you know. Lasers. Laser beams. We have lasers where you aim the laser at a target. It just wipes it out. We're going to have, there'll be the most sophisticated lasers in the world and the most sophisticated laser in the world will be on the battleships that we're building. We also have shark pits around them as we go. No, I made that part up. But. I love this. By the way, I'm all for it. If there's one thing I think we need to do is modernize everything and keep modernizing our planes. You know, every fighter jet should basically be a stealth jet. I mean, why are they all not stealth jets? If we can hide them, let's hide them. All ships should be stealth, which, by the way, the new Trump class of battleships look pretty stealth. They also look like they'd be one hell of a yacht. They got a landing pad on the back. You know, you could travel anywhere with that type of yacht. And it'd be golden. I just love this. And you know what I love most is that it's about peace through strength. Just a counter to everybody. It's not China. We get along great with China. I have a great relationship with President Xi Jinping. And not China. It's just everybody. You don't know who comes along. but we just wanted peace through strength. Hopefully we never have to use them. Two of them, by the way, is what they're going to start. He said, by the way, two, but maybe more. We envision that these two ships, we're talking about 10, but we're going to start with two, and we're going to quickly morph into 10, and ultimately we think it's going to be anywhere from 20 to 25 of these. The first one, the fleet starts with two massive battleships, each 30 to 40,000 tons, the first name USS Defiant, hypersonic missiles, electric rail guns, high-powered lasers, nuclear-capable sea-launch cruise missiles, advanced defenses, and huge missile loads. The gunfire power delivers effects at a fraction of missile cost.

I'm all for it. Let's continue on. I'm also all for some other things. I'd like to go ahead and introduce the golden border wall. And let's make the border wall golden. These are all the things that we could make golden. It's a big, beautiful golden wall. And we should also, let me think what else. Oh, a new pipeline. And we'll call it the golden pipeline. It's Trump's golden pipeline. It is going to be great because we are going to get more oil than ever before. And I don't even want to get into golden tanks. They're coming. We're going to get some golden planes. It's going to be great. But more importantly, I love that we're modernizing our military. It's something that... We should have been doing long ago. And let's continue that effort. And I love that he puts his name on things just to fire up anybody with Trump Doreen syndrome. They are still talking about the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Center. CNN was live out front as they're changing the name at the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Center yesterday. And I was dying. I'm like, you're still on this. You're just dwelling on it. Like, let it go. Like, there's just, it's a, I'm all for it. You want to keep having your TDS and lose fact of you have an election coming up in 2026. But it's the ultimate move. Let's continually name things with my name on it. We'll call them golden and we'll talk all about it. And the left will lose their mind and have a heyday with this. Welcome back to daybreak. On 92.5 Fox News as we are two days away. Three days away? It's the night before the night before. So whatever that is. I always have a hard time like actually counting it down because it's like, well, it's really two days from today or not three days. I don't know. You know what threw me off is we once had an inflatable that was a countdown calendar, right? And it had a digital clock on it and it would count down to Christmas. But it counted down. So when it was one day, it would say something like two days because of the way it counted down. And when it was, so basically when it got under 24 hours, it was zero days till Christmas. So it was always a day off. See what I'm saying? So when he got down to less than 24 hours, the thing went down to zero and it totally threw me off the rest of my life. And I think that's why God let it get blown away and stolen by the garbage man so that it wouldn't throw me off anymore. I just believe that. You've got to believe that things happen for a reason, right? There's a reason why I ended up on this show so that I am able to call out the injustice of Southwest Florida. I'm just kidding. It's not what I'm going to do.

But I really want to talk about something that we kind of touched base on Friday, but I was kind of loopy in my mind coming off of the two hours of sleep and didn't get a chance to really talk about it. And I kind of talked about it with Mayor Allers when we were talking about, no, when I was talking to the city manager of Cape Coral about tolls, like I'm losing the thought again. But Ron DeSantis has dropped the idea at its December cabinet meeting to charge the visitor's tolls. And they could probably pay it all and give residents a break. So if you're a Florida resident, you don't pay any tolls. Now, right away, I go, yes, great idea, right? My question would be, do visitors have enough to pay the tolls? And could we designate it more specifically? Like, For example, if you live in the Cape, the tape bridge is free. You live in Santa Bella. The Sanibel Bridge is free. And at the same time, you got that way you don't cut it all completely out, right? But. He wants to do it. He has figured out a way, and he did the $1 billion toll relief program that gave 50% discounts to frequent SunPass users in 2022, and he is all about making sure that these tolls could be reduced and save people money. And by the way, if you live in the Cape, it'll save you about $100 a month. If you live on Santa Bell and you don't have a Sun Pass, it might save you like your car payment. So much money to go across that bridge. But they pay for like we found out from the city manager of the Cape. They pay for the upkeep of the bridge. They pay for the loan that they extended again for the bridge. And this is something that we have to continue to pay for. We used to all think that we were just paying the toll to pay the person who collected it. Like are we just working for your hourly wage? Is that what we're doing? But here's what he says, free tolls, and it would be for residents. And so I've decided that this morning during this segment, I want to take some time and talk about our Florida Christmas wish list. And let me tell you why. Free tolls, great, do it. If you have a way just like... property taxes to make sure that the bridges don't go to hell and, you know, they're maintained and we can still pay the loans. And if you believe that we have enough tourism to pay it, let's roll. But I would ask the question of how much tolls. And by the way, it would take the relief from those who neglect to pay their tolls. And every year when it's time to renew their registration, they get a letter in the mail saying their registration has been suspended. and your tolls need to be paid and you have to pay like, I don't know the answer to this, but I think it's something like 70% of what you owe and then they'll reactivate your registration. Thousands for some people, if you live in the Cape and you go two, three times a day and you never pay the thing you get in the mail, it's a lot.

So so many people will deal with that and probably already have this year because it's when you're registering news. You get that notification in the mail. I had a friend of mine about two years ago, got a notification in mail for something like $1,900 in tolls that he had to pay to get his registration renewed. If you let those tolls lapse, that's what happens. And basically, depending on when your birthday it is, it could ruin a holiday for you. So that is one big relief. And then my question would be if you eliminate tolls for all Florida residents, do the people that owe back tolls are those forgiven? Because you're not collecting tolls anymore? Great question. Should you let it ride as long as you can if you owe tolls? I don't know. I wouldn't. I wouldn't let it ride. The worst thing you could have is have your registration suspended because then you can't drive it. Nobody wants to drive on it. But what else do we want? Let's talk about it. Let's make a list 239-479-5592. Now, here's what I know. For the past two days, Senator Jonathan Martin has been listening to the show. The both times I've talked about the Senate, he's been able to text me personally. So there's a high probability that we have at least one state lawmaker listening to the show right now, maybe even a high probability that two or three are listening to the show. And by the way, if one of you are listening to the show, let me say Merry Christmas on behalf of Rob and myself. And I hope you have a great holiday. But please pay attention. to what the daybreak listeners might text or call in or say when it comes to what they want on their Christmas wish list. The number one thing we all want, and let me go ahead and say it, a clear and decisive one item that has a good resolution for property taxes. If you're going to eliminate property taxes, something that works for everyone. Because if you angle it just for the seniors, if you angle it just for one person and not the other, it's going to fail. And it will fail because people will feel neglected. They'll feel like they were left out. They will feel like they didn't care about me, so I ain't caring about them. It has to be something that is decisive and universal. Also, I would like to say, We also want lower insurance premiums. And I would like to say, open up the ability to buy our car and homeowners insurance from any provider in any state across the country. Make it more easily available that competition will lower the rate. Make it available for everybody. Make it so we can buy homeowners insurance in Texas if I want her in Ohio or Missouri. as long as it would cover Florida, right? And same thing for car insurance. You know, I like the fact that we've already had some car insurance reduction with Ron DeSantis, so that's happening. But we all worry about that. And I also worry about the fact that if a hurricane would come, there is a law that says if you have to sue your insurance provider to repair your home.

Right? Let's say it's 100 grand to repair your home and you win that lawsuit. You will be paying the attorney fees at a said lawsuit and maybe not even be able to finish your home. I'm not a big fan of that. Now, I know it's helped lower the insurance premiums and the insurance companies have used that as a way, but it only benefits the insurance company. And what happens if I have to give 30% of my $100,000 to my lawyer and now I have $70,000 to fix $100,000 in repair? And how is that even legal, by the way? And I wasn't on the air when that went through. But because of the fact that with that law, I have to violate my insurance premium. I have to use money that I was awarded for something other than what it's awarded for. Everyone knows when they give you $4,000 to fix something. You're supposed to spend the $4,000 to fix something. That's why they gave you the $4,000. Now, I know everybody goes out and tries to find it for $3,000 because you got $4,000. I get it. But after Ian, when we took in water, our house got flooded, roof got damaged, we lost our pool cage. I mean, we could go down the list of things that got damaged, lost our air conditioning condenser, our pool pump. I mean, we could go down the list of things that we lost from Ian. And... My insurance 100%, even the stuff, like if we would go get something set like you knew water heater and they gave me, you know, I don't have the dictation at 1,800 and somebody gave me 60, it got it for 1,600. That 200 just went towards fixing a window or fixing something on the roof. There was no spare money. And that would worry me if I had to take my insurance premiums out of that. So it's, it's, we were lucky. There were no hurricanes this year. Well, let's continue on. What's on your Christmas wish list? I want to know. And I'd like to know what it is you would love the most. How about all, since we're a hunting, fishing, freedom loving state. Let's go ahead and make no fees for Florida residents for a hunting license and no fees for Florida residents for any fishing license. And charge that to the tourists too. I mean, if we're going to bust their head, let's bust their heads. Let's make it so they know when they come down here, they're getting taxed. Listen, I went to my, and everyone knows that. And I hate when the objection is this. Oh, tourism is going to be affected by that. No, it's not. They're still coming down here. Let me tell you why I know they're still coming down here. I'll tell you exactly why I know they're still coming down here. Because when I went to Miami...

when I was a young buck for the first time and I was able to drink on South Beach, right? And we went to South Beach and we're on South Beach and we're drinking. I ordered a butt like a Corona or a butt light or something like that, right? The beer was $6. The South Beach tax was $2. The sales tax was like $1.5. And I think there may have even been a resort fee tacked on. It was something like $13 for one beer. Now, you know why I bought it? Because I was on South Beach drinking a beer. No one's going to be like, no, I don't want that. No, you just drink it. You suck it up. It's a price of the party. And people know when they go on, when they go, listen, resort fees are the first thing that people ask when they book hotel rooms. And sometimes it's a, it's a, it's a, you know, no, I'm not doing it. But most resort fees come with amenities for each resort. You get different things. All right. So. I'm all for some fishing licenses. How about some tax-free holidays for cars, TVs, and appliances? That's a good one. These are just Christmas wish lists. Like, if I had to, you know, give my, if I was writing the list and it said, Dear Senator Martin, this year for Christmas, I want a concisive plan for property tax. I want no tolls. I want you to help us have more tax-free holidays on cars, TVs, and appliances. And how about we get more into the process of how we're going to... get people into office. That's all. You know, term limits or something I'd like to talk about across the board with everybody, we could get into that Christmas wish list. But this is a, when I saw the toll relief program, I said, let's go ahead and build us a Christmas wish list of things we would like to have done. Coming up next, we got to get ready for that maga minute, that maga minute. What's going on, Rob? Rob, you got something for me? Rob the producer, what's up? I was going to say one more thing to add to that wish list. What is it? Currently a firearm sales tax holiday. Let's just make that permanent. I like that. I like that that went through Christmas. So if you haven't put a gun on your Christmas wish list, put it on there, baby. Put it on there. Oh, one more thing. You're right. You just brought it up, Rob. One more thing. We need to make sure we lower that gun age. We need to make sure long guns. If you're 18, you can buy a long gun in Florida. I believe we should be the most. open to the Second Amendment, then we are the freest state. Every freedom should be recognized in Florida better than any other state in America. And we may have missed the ball with the freedom of speech twist after Charlie Garg, just to be 100% honest. There were a lot of, but freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequence, right? At the same time.

They make cocaine in Colombia, and he's no friend of the United States. He's a very bad, very bad guy. And he's got to watch his ass because he makes cocaine, and they send it into the United States of America from Colombia. We love the Colombian people. I love the Colombian people. They're great people, energetic, smart, great. But their new leader is a troublemaker, and he better watch it. You better close up those cocaine factors. They have at least three major cocaine factors. We know where they are. He better close them up fast. Gustavo Petro is now on notice. You've been put on notice. And I, for one, am loving the fact that he has basically ended the war on terror. He immediately responded to the Syria attack on our troops. And then, by the way, is now 100% in on Venezuela and is now putting Colombia on notice next. Hey, do not send drugs to our country. It's never going to be okay. We have to defend our borders. We have to save lives. The drug, I keep up the war. I feel like we are in a Reagan era because that was when the war on drugs in America really took off. And you had Nancy Reagan and said, you know, just say no and created the entire anti-drug movement during his presidency. But here we are now making sure that not only are we stopping. the drugs in our streets by deporting a lot of criminals. But at the same time, we are stopping the influx, which is basically the supply which stops it from coming. You stop it from ever getting here, then you lower the drug problem, you lower the overdose problem, and you fix the bigger problem, which is drug abuse in the United States.
