Welcome. All right, let me get set up here on this Monday, March 23rd, 2026. Some breaking news overnight. As at LaGuardia Airport, there has been an Air Canada plane that has collided with a fire truck, and it is shut down all travel there till 2 p.m. today. as we are already in the middle of a crazy madness when it comes to air travel. Now, as this go, let me give you, here's an update on what's going on. This is a Fox News. I'm Ashley Stromyer live in New York. We are following breaking news out of New York where an Air Canada Express jet has reportedly collided with a fire truck while taxing. It's all happening within the last hour or so. Right now, it is not clear how many people are hurt, nor is it clear how many people were on board at the time. This all happened around 11.30 p.m. local time. The FAA has issued a ground stop for all planes at the airport until at least 2 p.m. Eastern, effectively closing the airport. parts. So both pilots have died in this tragic crash as well as many passengers were sent to the hospital. I think there are six still in critical condition. A lot have already been released as this has happened around 1130 last night and has shut down the airport there. And obviously when you shut down New York's airport, you get a massive amount of delays and traffic problems. So if you're traveling today, please. make your way there. Now, the air traffic control is where I want to talk about. Now, here is the air traffic controller, and the audio has already been released. Here it is. Truck one and company with Guardi Tower requesting to cross four at Delta. Truck one company cross for Delta. Truck one and company crossing for a Delta. Frontier 41.95 to stop there, please. Stop, stop, stop, stop, truck on stop, stop, stop. Stop truck one, stop. Stop, truck one, stop. Bill 2603, go around, runway heading 2000. Chess 646. Just six or six a seat collide with vehicle agents hold position. I know he can't move. The vehicle is they responding to you now. All right, so there he announces the collision as a... So to give you some background, there was a odd odor on a flight. The fire truck was responding to that. It was crossing the runway. About 30 miles an hour, not at full speed when it landed, but about 30 miles an hour was what the plane was going when it hit the fire truck.
The way I want you to understand that the tragic loss of life, the two lives that were lost, is sad and 100% something that we should never overlook. But as we are in the middle of a shutdown with TSA, And that has nothing to do with air traffic controllers, just so you know. Homeland Security, the DHS Department of Homeland Security has nothing to do with the air traffic controllers that is the Department of Transportation. So they're funded. They're getting paid. So it's not about a staff shortage. Or is it? See, you have to go back to the previous shutdown that did actually affect the air traffic controllers when you had, what, 400 or so that have quit, and there were air traffic controllers, basically, that decided they didn't want to do this anymore, and they were done. And the thing that no one really realizes is between two to five years to train an air traffic controller. So there was already a shortage in the career. You have that shutdown where they didn't get checks. I don't know, what, three, three different checks they didn't get or something like that? Now, Rob, you're a pilot. I'm going to talk to you about this and get into this with you because I know that you're a licensed pilot and you understand this from a whole other level. Now, I'm not saying that. They were short-staffed. He was double-dutying it where he was handling ground transportation as well as air traffic control. I don't know if he was double-duty and I don't know if he was distracted. It seems like the fire truck wasn't listening, but this is an ongoing investigation that's going to unfold as we go. But. I want to point out that if we have an air traffic controller shortage and then we have a TSA shortage now because TSA shutdown and they don't get a check Friday, you're going to see, they're saying small airports are going to shut down. These shutdowns have long-term effects that we're not discussing. These shutdowns have long-term effects. And yes, we can open it back up and that's a quick fix to the problem. Absolutely. But no one is thinking about the long-term effects of these political moves by these politicians. And now we have an air traffic controller situation. And this just basically. folds right into the helicopter crash in D.C. when they collided midair, and you have this and you have others, and now you've got to wonder whether or not, and listen, it's a hard job by far. I have a friend of mine who's won. It's an incredibly demanding job. I'm not saying that, but that's exactly why you can't allow them to not be funded ever, because the long-term effect is massive. What's your thoughts on this crash, Rob, as a pilot? So...
Generally, Jason, at an airport like LaGuardia, there would be different controllers for ground operations as there would be for what's called tower operations of the tower frequencies. So that's your departure. That's your arrival. Right. So it... And generally, they do kind of work together in tandem, and they should be communicating to each other in the tower, not over the radio frequency between ground and air. But it sounds like that there was a miscommunication here. I think you hit it pretty good when you said perhaps the fire truck wasn't listening. However, this one, I hate to assign blame, but the controller did give him. the go-ahead to proceed forward on his path. He sounded like he was waiting for clearance to cross a runway or some sort of other critical vein. The controller granted him that clearance and made the mistake. Now, he should still be listening. So when the controller says, stop, stop, stop, truck one, stop, truck one, stop. That is now the truck's responsibility to be listening to that communication. Maybe it's too late. But maybe it was too late. And you can't stop in the middle of a runway, especially if it's an active runway. But you always have to be so careful when you're crossing a runway because when I'm taxiing in my aircraft, generally I'm looking left and right almost. probably two or three times before I even proceed on that runway because I'm looking to see I'm looking to see if there's a plane that's coming in in either direction or a plane that's going out you would be able to see lights from an aircraft if it was coming in there's no reason that they should have not seen each other as a pilot are you looking ahead the runway or are you looking at the point to land Are you looking at the point where you land the plane or you like for a motor, I'll give you an example. No, you're looking ahead. You're looking ahead. You are always looking down runway because if you have your landings down, you should be able to come down on the thousand foot marker every time. That's kind of an expectation if you're a commercial level pilot. So as long as you do your approach correctly, you should be able to land. darn near the same spot every single time. But you're not looking on the ground right in front of you. You're looking down the runway because you have to slow that aircraft down and get off the runway. And he was going 28. At 20, you land over 100 miles an hour, I'm sure. When you hit 28 miles an hour, you're almost at the end, are you not? Say that question one more time. When they collided, they were like 25 miles per hour. Where at in the landing are you at? Yeah, that would have been probably towards the end of that roll-off. So when you hit the ground, obviously, in an aircraft like a regional jet, like the one that we saw in the incident.
You know, he generally would have air brakes that he would bring up. So something that would help slow the plane down. He would also be using the brakes on the gear to try and slow the plane down. But, you know, that plane coming in was well over 100 knots or 100 miles an hour as it hit the asphalt. It's going to need time to slow down to a roll. So, honestly, again, I hate to assign blame because we don't know, but the controller should not have authorized the truck. But the bigger picture here is us looking at what shutdowns effects have. And if we find out that this is a double duty air traffic controller, it definitely ties into my theory that the long-term effects of these shutdowns are an issue. You sit in a situation where you believe that... You know, these politicians have your best interest in mind. And then they shut the government down. And when they shut it down, they shut down vital things that keep us safe. And when you start thinking about TSA, and, you know, last week I said TSA should be privatized. It's an option. If they're going to continue to be a pawn in political chess games, let's privatize them and just take them out of the game. Maybe we should do the same thing for our traffic controllers. There is a need. for vigilant safety when you're up in the air, when you're at the airport, the risk are way greater than any other risk out there when it comes to travel. I'm not talking about for the traveler. I'm talking about for potential attacks, if you will, because of the fact that it becomes a big missile in the air. If it becomes an attack, we know what I'm talking about. We. as Americans need to demand that the shutdown stop affecting the security of our nation. And at the same time, demand that if you're going to shut down the government, I'm with Senator Rick Scott. You shut it down at any angle at all, then the lawmakers don't get paid. They have no urgency to get the government back open, the Democrats, because they want to make sure that they defund ICE. It's a... It's completely absurd. The fact that we haven't stood up and said, what? What are you doing? It's what America should do at the midterms. They should hold these Democrats accountable for these shutdowns that are affecting everyday Americans, trying to pay their mortgages, and more importantly, affecting the safety and the lives of so many others. If we find out this is an air traffic controller shortage or that he was double-dutying it, Those two pilots that lost their lives may have been avoided if they'd have had two people at that job. And Rob would agree. He just explained it to you. Yeah, this was absolutely an avoidable situation. And once again, I'm going to question where it goes. Understand that there was already a pre-existing shortage. Now, after the first shutdown that we had, what, seven, eight months ago, where it was forever. I mean, we don't know how long. It was so long. So long, I don't even remember how long it was. We just can't continue to let this happen. So please understand that this is one of the things that I'll be looking into. I don't, that I want to talk about. The thing that I want our lawmakers to fix is if you are shut down, you are not getting paid. It's the most important part.
Like it will end these shutdowns with long-term effects. No one's thinking about the long-term effects. They only think about the short-term problem because they're in and out. They're worried about right now, right now, right now. But look what long-term is doing. So much to discuss today on the show, including Gavin Newsom trying to call out Florida. Texas and Florida are the real high tax states. Your middle class pays more taxes in Texas than our middle class in California. What I have to say is that this guy is nuts. I just want to say that we should demand honesty when it comes to our politicians. And Gavin Newsom is a joke. Good hair and soundbites don't fix the mess he helped create there in California. Their income tax, California is up to 13.3%. Texas and Florida's income tax? Zero. Well, that's a win. By the way, it's why some people take jobs in Florida. Understand if you took a job, the same job for the same pay you lived in California and somebody offers you the job here in Florida, for the same pay, you get a 13% raise because they don't take state tax. That's why people love Florida. Now, when it comes to property taxes, taxes higher on average, but Florida's lower overall burden and homestead exemptions on top of the fact that we're working on reforming our property taxes here. When sales taxes, 7.25 in California, gas taxes through the roof, you know what gas costs in California. It's crazy. So we all know that Gavin Newsom is a bold-faced liar. He says things just to try to get... That desperate long reach to distract you from what you really know about California's tax and spend disaster. It's what we know. Matter of fact, if you have moved here from California or you know a neighbor or somebody close to you that has moved here from California, like I do, a good friend of mine, his name is Hogg, his nickname, Hogg, right? Hog moved here. from Sacramento because he couldn't take it over there anymore. And he has been thriving, now owns a business, and is out there working every day, making great money, and is as happy as it can be. On top of the fact, as a conservative, he couldn't take the politics in California.
But how many people do you know from Florida that moved to California? And I'm not talking about someone who had the hopes of becoming a movie star. I'm talking about somebody who said, well, I'm going to go for a better life out in California. Nothing. 800,000 people have left California since Gavin Newsom has become the governor. 800,000. Now. I could give you the information. Just the facts is out there right now, putting all the information out, giving you the... The raw deal when it comes to the fact. I mean, here's the president of just the facts. James Argussey. What we're dealing with here is a guy that is basically taking statements and making them, they're not just false. So what we're dealing with here is a guy who doesn't just make false statements about the quality of life in his state, but he actually makes statements that are the polar opposite of reality. Right, the polar opposite. James Agresti, it's called Justifax. He's the president of this organization. And that's what Gavin Newsom is doing. He's not even going to be the Democratic nominee. We're fully, he may be the nominee. He may go to convention. I'm sure he will. But I don't think the Democrats are choosing him. I don't. This is the distraction for, and like I said, to let Josh Shapiro move. And by the way, I'm still waiting on one person to call to say they moved here from California.
I don't want to hold my breath too long. I'll die. Listen, it just doesn't happen. There's no reason for someone from California to, I mean, from Florida to leave to go to California. But when it comes to California moving to Florida, there's 152 reasons. I can think of 13 reasons right now, and that's income tax alone. Sales tax, one percent less here, one and a half other places in Florida. Gas tax lower. There's so many things that we can compare apples to oranges when it comes to the taxes in the two states. With that being said, I would like to say that we don't have any property tax. Can we get that done already? I mean, can we get a special session and get the property taxes eliminated? We all want it. You dangled the carrot. We want to see it. That way, when I get to the property tax line, I don't have to say we have substantially lower property taxes. I can just say we don't have property taxes. That sounds right. Imagine how many people are going to flood this state and want to live here when they find out we have no income tax and no property tax if you are a Florida resident. That sounds quite awesome to me. And I... And you'll see even more Californians move here as they are tired of what's going on in California. High taxes. The lack of the homeless people. What do you want to go into L.A.? We could talk about L.A. We can talk about California, homeless, the economy, the taxes. Can we think of one positive thing about California? Give me, oh, Reagan. Reagan came from California. There, we got one. Reagan came from California. That's it. Think of something else that California's got. They don't. It's just a bad state altogether. And I just wanted to point out that Gavin Newsom is a big, fat liar. And that's how it is. Are we heading back into the 70s? I know my wife has been decorating our room into the 70s, and it just made me think of the 70s as a kid traveling across this country during a gas shortage. You know, watching what's going on in Iran and what's going on in gas prices and stopping at the pump today and paying $4 a gallon for unleaded. It kind of took me down memory lane as a child. And as a child, my, see, my stepdad was a radio guy. It's probably where I got the bug to be on the microphone for my whole life. And very successful in the country world. And we spent many, many times in the middle of a volatile career, because this is a very volatile career. Sometimes you're ears. Sometimes you're not. And. We were in between gigs and actually leaving from one town to another, one state to another, traveling across the country in the 70s crisis during the opaque embargo and the 1973 little war and the gas lines. So the gas lines, do you remember the 1970s right? During the... First Middle East and oil embargo, the war that happened there and the no gas today and even an odd rationing based on your license plates and lines wrapped around the corner. People panicking, speed limits enforced so that you wouldn't use enough gas. And it was a scary time. And if you were there during these times, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you think that we possibly. could be on our way to something like that again. I mean, diesel, well over $5 a gallon on its way to six, could reach eight any day. Understand as soon as diesel hits the record high price ever, everything you buy is going up in prices. Everything. Not some things, everything. That's why I watch what's going on with the strait o'ermuz. And now President Trump has said that he's going to open the straight or I'll take out your power grid. And now you have like the Saudi Arabian princes like, oh, we want you to leave infrastructure alone. And then you have the Iranian officials saying we want millions of dollars to open the straight. And we're not giving you, we don't, I don't know if you know this. I don't know. I don't know if you know this, but we don't negotiate with terrorists. We never have, and we definitely don't, when we have a Republican in office. So that's not happening. So what is going to happen? Now, if you're like me, you go, well, if you can go in and annihilate a Navy, annihilate an Air Force. crippling army, then tell me why you can't take the straight. That's because it's like guerrilla warfare there. It's so skinny there that every type of...
Non-conventional, that's the word, non-conventional warfare can be used. Let me give an example. You take a grenade and you tie it to a $100 drone that you buy at Walmart and you fly it over to the tanker that's trying to slip through and you drop that grenade right on top of that tanker. The tanker explodes, massive oil spill, huge price surge in all oil barrels. The risk doesn't equal the reward. currently. Now, what do I believe is happening? I believe that we are actually going there with a bunch of Marines that are going to be on boats and popping them off as they feel like they can come after us. And I think you'll have some highly trained snipers on these boats as well. And I think you'll see some... some anti, all kinds of different defense to escort these ships through the straight. And it puts a lot of our American lives in, you know, in harm's ways. So that's something we have to think about. But the bigger picture is, are we on the way? Are we on the way to a... Does your license plate end with an even number or odd number? Because that's the only day you can go get gas. I'm for one thankful of a couple of things that I never really embraced until recently. Every discount program that every gas station has I am signed up for and following and being a part of. I'm on that upside thing and I'm saving money gas there. However, I can save some money. On the gas prices, I'm doing it on my own. I think it's a responsibility we kind of have. And if you're missing out and just going to the pump and paying, you're an idiot. I want you to do a guy who was spending massive amount of money on gas every month for his business. I said, do you have part of those discount programs? He's like, no. I was like, oh, cool. Can I have $5,000 a month? Because if you're filling up like 20 vehicles, you're definitely spending $5K extra a month that you don't need to spend. But that's what you have to think about. Think about that. How about construction? and all the transportation of the construction materials. That's why I said everything you buy is going to go up if we don't open the straight. None of us want Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I understand. We've got to eliminate that threat. And in the infamous words of Ted Cruz, and let me give it to you, here he is. I think the regime is weaker than it ever has been. And we have an opportunity if we can collapse this regime. America will be much, much safer. There are very few things on planet Earth that would do more to make, improve American national security as much as seeing this regime collapse. The only thing I didn't like in his statement is if we could take out this regime. We have to at this point. There is no other option.
We have to go and finish this off. Now, here's some things you could do to avoid it, but Trump is already doing it. So some of the things that you could do to avoid the 1970s from coming back to life is ramp up domestic drilling and refining immediately over 5,000 approvals since January 2025. Executive orders opened more federal lands. Also the fast track of pipeline approvals. Not soon enough. Those exports would take a decade. That's not going to be soon enough, so that doesn't work. How about releasing some of the reserves? We did that. Didn't really work. Some say a temporary tax relief on gas and diesel to pump would ease family budgets. Ron DeSantis says there's no simple fix like suspending state taxes, which, by the way, would save you $0.23 a gallon at the pump. I don't see how that doesn't help us. 23 cents is 23 cents. Ten gallons is saving you $5. I mean, or $2. What is that? $2.5. $2.5. So, but that's $2.5 that you could put towards something else. And I got two cars in my house. And we use a lot of gas. So that tax relief, I think, could have helped. But it's really just a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound. And if we don't figure out a way to really beat this situation, we might be in a position like no other. And we need to build more U.S. energy independence, which Trump is 100% behind. So I believe that he saw this ahead. This is chess, not checkers. What's going to happen? And I do this. We'll pick gas prices are going to go up. Well, how do we avoid the 70s and the massive issue with gas shortages across the world? Well, you've got to do these things. All right, let's do all those before we go to Iran. So all those things were already in place. The only thing that happened after Iran is the release of the reserves. But everything else, he was playing chess. He was preparing for this. When I say he, I mean President Trump. So. As we, now I know a lot of us want to drill. Some of us don't want to drill. We went into that debate last week. We don't need to get into that debate again. But what I will say is that. We have to understand that this is a very volatile situation on about 15 different levels. We can talk about gas prices. We can talk about the economy and the cost of things. We can talk about the midterms and what this will do to the midterms if it's ongoing. It's already damaging the midterms. If we continue to let it continue on, it will damage the conservative party 100% going into midterms. Because gas prices affect everyone.
And you're going to find that handful of Republicans who don't want to pay $4.5.5 at the pump. Now, coming up at 735, we'll go deep with Alfie Townshend and Money Matters Monday, where we'll go into what he believes, as our financial expert here on Daybreak, what he believes will happen with all these gas prices and the oil price. And is it... You know, is there a fix to this situation? I was shocked when I saw diesel this morning. $5.60 a gallon. $5.66 a gallon is a lot of money to pay to put. I mean, what does one truck take? 100 gallons? I mean, understand. That's like $560 to fill their tank up. And you complain about 100. This is a bigger issue than we could ever, ever imagine. And I hope that we find us a exit strategy that will work that benefits America to the 10th power. I definitely don't want to be there any long periods of time. But at the same time, I'm not willing to give up. But that's Republicans. Did you know, Democrats don't feel the same way? This is... The this is why I say it's a threat to the midterms. I got to let me get the numbers here real quick. I actually have the stat numbers and I want to make sure I actually say them appropriately when it comes to who's supporting this. 84% of Republicans support this. 86% of Democrats do not. So there is a massive political divide when it comes to what's going on in Iran. If we don't finish it now, just finish it. Finish it. At the full leverage of our military, everything, just finish it. And let's move on and get the straight open. This issue will become something that we can't overcome. when it comes to the midterms. It'll be one that is bigger than we could ever imagine and then you're going to see a whole different America when the Democrats decide they want to slide back into power because they've found. And listen, I support it. I think we should be there. I think we should be doing what we're doing. But I also at the same time, I'm cautious about how much time we're there. I already talked about this. It has to be a short-term thing. Not because, you know, I understand it might take longer, but you can't take that long. If you want to avoid a 1970s gas crisis, if you want to avoid a dismantling at the midterms, and more importantly, if you want to avoid paying $27 for something you would normally pay eight. Because if the cost to ship goods is three times what it was when we started this conversation, where do you think that cost is going? The manufacturer is not going to absorb it. You are. I am. We are. And that is something that I have to say, wow.

You are doing some job. He's trying to keep the fake news, trying to make the fake news real and respect it again, which is not an easy job, but you're doing a really amazing job. First time that's happened in 25 years, so I congratulate you. And everybody in the room, everybody in this whole country is watching what you're doing, and we appreciate it. When a man can get elected in a landslide. Winning every, think of it, seven swing states win them all. We win the popular vote. We win the electoral college by a tremendous amount. We win the counties by 82 or 84%. And I got no good press. Think of it. Only one thing. That only means one thing. These people are not respected. He's talking to the press, by the way, when he pointed out during his speech. So President Trump pointed out a couple of things. Let's talk about the first. He talked about Brendan Carr and the FCC pushing back on fake news. And if you listen to the Democrats on this, they'll say he censoring free speech. But that's not the case at all. It doesn't give CNN the free pass to lie and call it news or MSN or MS. or PMS or whatever it's called now, to lie and call it real news. You have seen multiple lawsuits by President Trump against the press for falsifying or lying, and they've had to settle billions with him or millions with him. They streamed the First Amendment. is, oh, that's a violation of the First Amendment. But when big tech and the government teamed up to Barry Hunter's laptop story, you were good with that one, right? The bottom line is that we have to fix the fake news so that we can get back to the way it was when I was a kid, which I love, by the way. When you just got the news, you just got what happened in the world. And that's it.
You didn't get bombarded with 17 issues on the issue and on the issue, and then go back and forth. You just got the news. This is what happened. A bank got robbed today, four people, and you always got a little bit of good news. But for some reason, Rob and I were talking about this last week. You don't get a lot of good news anymore. So Brendan Carr is doing a great job. The other thing I want to highlight is that President Trump talked about is 2024 massive victory, which, by the way, we have heard. 100,000 times. We all know it. It was a landslide. Popular vote. We get it. You want it all. He won it all. But that doesn't matter now. It doesn't matter now. There's no Super Bowl champion. Let's talk the 1972 dolphins that win the Super Bowl and be like, we don't have to worry about the competition. We'll be good next year. We'll win again. Oh, let's just take the summer. Let's just take the off season off and relax. And we'll just remind everybody how we were undefeated in the greatest football team ever. And I'm not trying to get into a dolphin conversation. I know everyone thinks their team was the greatest team ever. I get it. But what I am getting into is that we should not be touting our victories from 2024. Super Bowl champs don't rest from last year's win. A conservatives can't do that either. We must give our voters a reason, a reason. And I'll tell you what happens if we don't win. I'll tell you what happens. We're going to lose school choice. The borders are not going to be security more. Taxes are going to go up. You might see the elimination of the Second Amendment. And boy, are you going to see a whole bunch of stuff like ICE being eliminated? President Trump being put on a... They'll try to impeach him immediately.
Let's be humble in our 2024 victory, and let's be vigilant in our battle in the midterms. I got lost in the guest bathroom over the weekend, and it's my wife's and daughter's fault. I'll tell you the story coming up next. You won't believe it.
