I'm your host Jason Jay Jones along with producer Rom. The opposition is actually mounting pretty strong against the property tax amendment. There's now PACs and there's the Florida's for shared prosperity and all these new organizations that are jumping up ready to push back against the property tax amendment. Now, just for the record. Almost 60% of voters voted for the legalization of recreational marijuana. Almost. It was just shy. It was like 57 or something. It was just short of it, right? Now, that's because there was a massive pushback against it. The ads. I mean, there were more ads for voting no on recreational marijuana than there could have ever been. Now, here's the thing. It lost with. A ton of ads pushing for it to be passed. The ad money in that particular amendment was massive on both ends. Here's your thing. When it comes to the property tax amendment, you're going to see... Tons of ads pushing to you vote no on the property tax amendment. You're going to see none that say vote yes on property tax. None. Yeah, they're going to spend big bucks to terrify you that your police departments are going to disappear and your fire departments are going to be underfunded and emergency services are going to be delayed. They're going to try all of these scare tactics because they want to make sure that they can keep writing the blank check. It's time for them to tighten the belt. Homeowners will way, way, way outnumber any special interests. Let them go ahead and do their special interests. Let them build their packs. Let them build their pledge against it because that should motivate you. But let me ask you a question. Oh, this is going to be one to ponder right now.
When it comes back to the medical marijuana amendment, which I think was also Amendment 3, if I remember correctly, when it comes back to that amendment, so there was the push from truly even all the medical marijuana out there to push for it. I think John Morgan threw money, the attorney through money. John Morgan put a lot of money in it. He put through money at it as well, right? Where did the money come from that pushed back against it? Answer that question for me, Rob. Conservative PACs. Right. Republican PACs. Right. Right. And then we found out that Ron DeSantis pushed a lot of money towards that, too. He funneled money to make sure that they didn't pass, right? Ron DeSantis, our governor, who did not want that to pass, which is his right, and that's great. Fantastic. Does he want property tax to pass? No, because he's not supporting it anymore. Ah, there you go. He's backing it. He's telling you this is what I think is right for you, but he's not throwing money at it the way he threw against medical marijuana. And he's not out talking about it. He's not doing anything. Right. He's not out there. Now, now, what does that really funnel down to? That really funnels down to that big, big corporations and big, big business and those who are... Owners of multiple homes, rental homes, people that own 35, 40 rental homes? We're talking people with pretty substantial wealth. Right. Tons of wealth are going to push back against this because it hurts them more than it benefits them. Yep. And that's why you're seeing all of this pushback. Now, you, the Southwest Floridian, that has to get up at 4 o'clock every morning and get in your pickup truck and drive across the region, just working your butt off to make ends meet. This is for you, at least I would think. I would ask this straight to disfances his face. Like, why are you not throwing money at this? Why are you not pushing to have money? That's a fair question. I mean, you pushed so hard for this. He did. You're dangled carrot, as I like to call it. You're throwing it out there, but I'm going to go back to what I said. This is the opportunity where they say, Rob, we gave you every opportunity to do. Eliminate your property taxes, you didn't want it. But I think Ron DeSantis backed off because he said that this wasn't really his plan. The Senate put it through, but they took out any kind of school funding impact there too. So your schools are still going to be taxed at the same rate that they are. And I think that was the change that Ron DeSantis didn't like. But did he put it on the ballot? He has to sign it to put it on the ballot, right? He does? Right, right. So he signed it and put it on the ballot. So he gave his stamp of approval or don't put it on the ballot. Don't try to not back it down because you don't like the wording. That's an issue for me. I don't want to hate – listen, I love Ron DeSantis. He's a great governor. He's a great governor. But I'm really kind of wondering how hard now do we as a conservative talk show have to get in depth with talking about property taxes because there's going to be such a push against it. Listen, I get it. You know, the millage rate could change for these corporations, these businesses, and what they have to adjust to the lack of money to the fund. But.
I, uh, which I'm not for. Listen, don't like, I feel like they can find that money without taxing anybody. I feel like what we're not understanding is that there is a ton of money that comes into these places and the frivolous spending and not the, the. what do I want to say, the economic spending, where you're worried about the budget, where you're worried about your bottom line. I want whoever is going to decide on where to spend, whether county level, school level, city level, state level, national level, I need them to think of themselves as the guy that I've got to pay this so it doesn't get shut off. And I got to pay this so that I don't go backwards into my credit. And so when you think about The tax and way that will help you, like, you have to look at it that way. Like, it's going to help every, every person who owns a home in Florida. Mm-hmm. You are going to still pay something, but... A little is better than nothing at all. Yeah, I mean, with the cost of everything being so high right now, any relief is beneficial, even if it's packaged in a way like this where it's a homestead exemption. It's being rolled out over the course of a couple of years, so you're actually going to feel the benefits of this even more next year than you are this year. And, you know, You know what? Yeah, he actually doesn't have to sign off to get it on the ballot. This is only a function of the legislature. I just got that. So he doesn't actually have to sign off to get it on the ballot. So he didn't have to sign off on it. But listen. It's out there. He's saying it's out there. He pushed for the vote. You know, I've had this conversation with actually the person who text. I've had this conversation with that, like I said, I think this is an unpassable amendment. I think they're going to put so much money, big business and maybe others, packs that are political, will push back against it and try to end it. I think that might happen. It almost makes you want to vote yes, just in spite. That's what it's got to happen. I know. That's exactly what has to happen. You have to push back. We have to push back against this big money. I don't see a problem with eliminating property taxes from my everyday man point of view. No. From the guy who is going on vacation and had to make payments and buy it in little bits because I didn't have a, let's go. And the guy that owns one house. Right. Not five. Not five. And I've never, you know, and I bought that home in existence. I love it. It's my forever home. I won't be living. I like all the neighbors. There's one guy who kind of lives around the corner and, you know, and he's all into politics and stuff. And sometimes, you know, he's wild, so I don't really hang out with him too much. But other than that, it's cool. Does he listen to you? Absolutely. All the time. All the time. He never stops listening. And then he jogs by the house and says something. And I've got to be like, Spitzer Roach.
Keep on running, bro! Spitzer Roach is my name, right? He's a former state rep, so I, yeah. We have so many political conversations just in passing when we talk, man. It's cool. So I think that's it. But this right here is we're going to have to think about this, and you're going to have to wonder whether or not will this pushback stop you from voting for it. Are you already not voting for it? Are you an owner of Moul? I'd like to see if there's somebody out there that owns like four homes who's definitely voting against this because it still helps them. It does because it just helps them on their first homesteaded home. Right. Their main home. Even if you owned five, why would you not want to extra couple grand in your pocket? Right. Like it's still going to benefit you. It will. That's why I don't understand. Now, I understand the big business raising of the millage. I understand that that's why they're pushing back. I get that. They don't want that. And it's sad that they have to worry about that because that's what they'll lean on big business, that the legislators of counties and cities will lean on their big businesses instead of making it something else. I'll open the phone lines on this. 239-479-5592. That's 239-479-5592. We're in the middle of daybreak of 92-5. Fox News.
W5 Fox News says we were right all along. It's company policy and accurate. Welcome back to daybreak. I'm your host Jason Jay Jones along with producer Rob on this Friday morning. We're talking about property tax and property tax elimination. Phone lines open 239-479-59-55-9592. No, we're not trying to continually talk about the same topic, which is something we talk about. We can all talk like we know what it does and how it's going to work. What we're talking about now is that there's going to be a massive push. You can already see it. It's already started with these these. Special interest groups going out there pushing back against it. They're going to put ads out. They're going to put mailers out. It's going to get flooded into your mailbox. Vote no, Amendment 3. Vote no Amendment 3. And this pushback, this propaganda that you'll see through mailers and probably through yard signs and probably through TV and radio spots. Right, right. You're going to hear it. You're going to hear it and see it everywhere. Is that going to influence you in your decision? Do you feel like they could give you the Sunday scaries with a little bit of propaganda about this particular amendment? It's exactly what they're trying to do. It's going to save everybody money. Joining me now on the show is Danielle from Lehigh. Good morning, Danielle. You have a question for the show? Go ahead. Good morning, guys. So my question is, first of all, I've owned my only property for the last 16 years out in Lehigh. And I'm thinking of voting no for these property taxes because I don't exactly understand yet what is going to be also eliminated if they eliminate the property taxes, like what community services are going to be eliminated. I'd rather pay a little bit more in property taxes than have something, you know, struggles. Right. You know, that's that's the one side of that you can think of it, of what it's going to do and what it's going to eliminate. What it does, basically, is they keep the money, so you're still going to have some property tax, right? The money is going to be put there for the schools. The part that goes from property taxes to police, fire, and I think park and wrecks, those three are being. eliminated, but... The governor has always already promised that no matter how this happens, you'll make sure the police and fire get funded. You know they've always funded it. There are other avenues of funding for police and fire that go through, say, impact fees and other ways. But that is the issue. And that really is. You speak of it right there. That's what really worries people, Danielle, is whether or not they're going to lose a police force. Like in Lehigh, you're covered under Lee County. I don't believe that you will have to worry about your law enforcement.
or your EMS or fire departments, but there are going to be fire departments that may have to consolidate because there are multiple divisions that cost, you know, if you consolidate, not eliminate, but consolidate the different departments, you'll be able to consolidate the budget. We have to remember this isn't the end-all be-all either because if Byron Donalds gets elected governor, he has already stated that he intends to use a commission to examine property tax offset and budgeting in order to make sure that there's funding for these departments and these agencies that could be impacted. This year, it's probably likely going to save you based on the value of your home and estimate somewhere between $2,500, $3,000 next year. It could put you in the $4,000 range depending on the value. of your home and could put that money back in your pocket. You won't have that tax to you. Awesome. All right. Well, thanks guys. And let me, Daniel, let me ask you a question because I do. I want to go. I want to ask you a question. I want to go here. So let's let's just say real quick, all right, that this, that, you know. This is all going down, this police department, the fire department, right? Do you think that a law, like a county or a city, would just be like, well, we don't have a fire department because you voted against property taxes, so there's no fire department for you. No, not at all. We're not like a volunteer state or anything. Right. There's always going to be a fireman. There's always going to be a police officer. They're never going to let that happen in the state of Florida. So anybody who throws that fear into you just know they wouldn't let that happen. I remember how Lehigh used to be back in the early 2000s where we only had two sheriff's officers patrolling the entire Lehigh. You got more than that now? I want to go back that way. You got more than that now? Yeah. We do. All right. That's good to hear. That's good to hear. Go ahead, Rob. Hey, Danielle, you said that you're a homeowner for what? You said 16 years. 16 years. Now, I imagine that you probably had to tighten your belt and work really hard in order to buy that house initially, but also to maintain it and keep it steady, right? You've had to budget. You've had to prioritize your home. So the way that I see this, and this is something that I hope that voters consider, is that you always have to tighten your... belt or they'll sweep the rug right out from under you. These government agencies are commissions, our leaders, these cities that, you know, they are able to just write a blank check. They don't have to answer for the money that they're spending. And if we put a limit on what they are able to spend, they're going to have to take budgeting a lot more seriously. It'll help us root out fraud and it will help us hold them more accountable. So that's where my stance is on. You have way through paying your home off or are you farther ahead than that?
Apple. Probably about half. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can keep renting it from the government and paying your bank if you want. We don't mind. Keep on renting it. That's what you're basically doing, giving them rent money for your home. $500 a month if you kind of think about it. $500 a month. You're already paying a mortgage. Now $500 a month, you're going to give them and rent. Nah, man, you can go get your own money. Find your money like I do it. I'm broke. And I got to figure out a way to pay my electric bill. Do the same thing. That's how I look at it. I'm with you. I thought it was great that you asked that question, Danielle. Thank you. Thank you, Daniel, for sparking that interest. It means a lot. Thanks for calling. on into daybreak. Thank you guys. All right. We've got John on the phone from Naples. John, go ahead. What do you think? Hey, good morning. I think she's on the right track. I kind of have the same views. I kind of compare it to the minimum wage deal that it's just not going to work. I mean, you start cutting off other services just to save a couple bucks on your property taxes and everything else goes up. If you know, anything that government does or state, it's going to be a flop.
That's very vague. That's very vague, John. Cutting services. What services do you think they're going to cut, John? You don't think they're going to cut services? No. We're paying right now. No. No. I don't. I think that, listen, I think they've got an astronomical amount of money. Every time 10,000. All right, you've got a really, your connection's really bad. That's because he just kept his radio up. Every time they build 10,000 homes somewhere and get a $50 million break on their impact fees, maybe we raised in Lee County, raise the impact fees, so you got some extra money in the budget. I mean, come on now. There's a lot of ways. 239, 479-5592. Mark, you got about 30 seconds. Go. Tax the hell out of the weed shops, man. That'll pay for everything. See, that's what I keep saying. Right. We've said that already. If they would make it recreational, you could turn it into a taxable product, a bankable product, a feeable product, and it would fix everything. Hey, I appreciate your phone call, rounding it out right there a little weekend marijuana. So much to discuss still. More daybreak coming up next. Here on 92-5 Fox News, right all along. Waiting. A day at Vanderbilt Beach fixes a lot. But not everything. That's where we come in. 92-5 Fox News. Right. All along.
Welcome back to daybreak. Feeling fresh and new here today on this Friday morning. Good morning. How are you doing? I'm your host, Jason Jay Jones, along with producer Rob. So politics seems to be something that you either love or you hate or you make money on and you love to hate it. I think that's kind of the realm that we're in. And some people just can't seem to make it. just something in their life. It consumes them to the point to where they let's let's have a conversation about the Cape Coral resident named Russell James Ringlin. Well, Russell James Ringlin got up one morning angry. So angry. Or maybe he was getting ready to go to bed. Angry. So angry. He was so mad at the mayor of Cape Coral that he went out on July 2nd and took a four by four. That's a four foot by four foot. John Gunter for mayor's sign and destroyed it and cut it up from its frame and stole it. and took it with him. There's now certain analysts video that showed a white pickup truck, a vehicle traced back to Russell James Ringland, and a 58-year-old. He's charged with criminal mischief and signs recovered from his truck. Multiple locations hit. So he went out on a I hate John Gunter deal. He's having, what type of person are you that you're, listen, you're not even involved in like a competitor's campaign. This guy's not, I mean, he may be, but that hasn't come out yet. This guy just got up. It was like, I'm pissed at John Gunter. I'm going to go and destroy all of his signs. That's wild. Like, can you just, for one chance, just sit back and go, well, I'm not voting for him? Yeah. That's where your power is. I'm going to tell my neighbor not to vote for them, too, because I don't particularly like him for whatever reason it may be. That's what the ballot box is for. It's not for you to go vandalized signs. And by the way, it's against the law. If you didn't tell, he got arrested for, got charged with it. And it is against law. It's not a felony. It's a misdemeanor. But there are rules. No placement or these people, the candidates have rules for the signs, and you also have removes for the signs. And they had to remove them. There's timing restrictions when they can be put out. They're just now able to go out. Destroying stealing or defacing signs is criminal mischief or theft and prosecutable. HOA has different rules. everyone else and near polling places sometimes within a certain amount of feet is an oh no that is the basic rules but even when i was running and i had a there was a fight for a corner because nobody would remove them so it was just like boom boom boom boom boom boom i mean i think i bought 54 signs for that corner
Like, as if it was going to make any difference whatsoever. Right, because that's the thing that needs to matter. Have you ever driven by a sign, Rob, have you ever driven by a sign? Now, I fight this with political consultants all the time. I've had this exact argument with a political consultant. Have you ever driven by a yard sign and go, you know what? That's going to be my candidate now. Yeah. That's the guy I've got the sign says it all. Now, the sign does give name recognition. Oh, three James Fishback signs? Yeah, he's got my vote. Right. No, absolutely not. Signs have zero bearing on my vote. On your vote. Do you think it has bearing on some votes? No. Now, I will give it this. I'm going to give you 5%, and I'm going to tell you why. Name recognition. If you see a name. on a sign right before you go into the ballot area, that name recognition might ring a bell, might click in your memory, you might click on that person if you don't know anyone in the candidate and you haven't in that race and you haven't researched the race yourself. But I believe that in 2006, you have to be in touch with the voters. A sign is great. We don't care about them. I've been a power voter. I've never missed an election in my entire life. I've never missed an election. Not a midterm, not a primary. I voted in everyone as well. Hell, I've never even, I lived in an HOA once, and I didn't miss that election. Right? I want my voice heard. My opinion matters, right? That's what it's for. That's why you go. And when you see somebody get up and they're blasted on signs, here's what they need to think about. They need to do the same thing that the candidates need to do. If you don't agree with a candidate, go work your own neighborhood and let them know how you feel about a candidate. It's all right. You'll realize that a lot of these candidates that work these neighborhoods get the door slammed in their face. But it is, that's what you want. You know, I always ask my question, who's going to knock on my door? Have you had anybody knock on your door this season? Let me tell you why. Let me tell you why. I would. Undoubtedly, if you were running in where I live, right, I would find out where the conservative talk show host lived and I would go knock on his door so that he, now someone's going to do it because of this, but it didn't matter. I'm going out of town. You won't remember in 10 days. Ha ha. You know, someone's going to knock now. But the only person that's ever knocked from Congress in my neighborhood ever. Byron Donalds's. Ever. Ever. Nobody else has ever knocked on your door. I've never had a door hanger. I've never had, I've had a school board member. And most recently, Tony Cory Booker knocked on my door. Only one this cycle that's knocked on my door. Okay. I think that's the biggest thing. The other day when we were at the raise the flag, I was sitting in the back of the crowd right by the sound booth. And this lady comes up to me and she goes, you're Jason Jay Jones from 92-5 Fox News. Yeah. She goes, is Jim Swartzel here? I said, I think he's going to be here. Certainly he was right before he got there, right? And I go, yeah, he's going to be here. She goes, well, I just want to say that.
I missed him, but he knocked on my neighbor's door, and he knocked on my other neighbor's door, and I missed him, so I wanted to say that I'm sorry that I missed him in that. And she went in, I said, well, I'll send him over. If he gets here, I'll let him know. And as soon as I got there, I told him about him, and I think he went over and talked to her. I think, you know, door knocking, the hands shaking, being at other events than political events, go out and shake hands at festivals, go out and be a part of a fair, stand in front of a grocery store. I don't know. Get permission to do something. But, you know, a lot of times candidates spend their life talking in front of the same 65 people the entire cycle and don't realize. That's how our recent events have been around here. So. The sign's cool. If you don't like your candidate or like the candidate that's running and you want to go break down the sign, you're going to go to jail. They're going to catch you in today's day and age. It just comes to show you that somebody's always watching. In FYI, there's a flock camera on every corner of it. Somewhere. Everywhere. There's a flock camera in this town, man. You're not going to get away with messing with signs at intersections. You're not. And I saw a Democratic sign in my neighborhood, not really in my neighborhood, but like, close enough to my neighborhood that it may be itch a little bit. And I immediately wanted to stop and go, tell me why. And I'm not in that race. I just want to know. Tell me why. I want to hear it. And I think that's going to be my new thing. I'm going to start door knocking on Democratic door signers or your signers. Tell me why. Tell me why. Hey, how you doing? I'm Jason Jay Jones, 925 Fox News. Notice your yard sign. Notice you're really, you know, supporting a Democrat. Tell me why. Uh-oh. That's going to be our new segment. Tell me why. There you go. I came up with it yesterday. Because yard signs are so important that this guy hates him. He wants to. Did you see the sign? It's almost like he got so mad. He, he, like, punched it. Oh. Like he was so mad. He was fighting it. Feel better, bro? I don't like John Gunter. Feel better, bro. Right. He's mean to me at meetings. Oh, no. Right. Now your butt's in jail. It don't matter. You go county commissioner, city council school board meeting. It don't matter. They're all meeting meetings. None of them nice to the people that actually go to the meetings. I feel like that's a part of being in touch with your constituents that we're not doing. But. Tell me why. I might start it today, bro. On my way home, I might actually start it today. No, don't go. Don't, don't. You're off. No, man. In an hour and 15 minutes, you're on vacation. I love this. Right, right, right. That's the best part about it. Oh, man. So. Don't forget, ladies and gentlemen, that we have an amazing app that you can check out each and every day. And if you haven't had a chance to download our app and check out all the greatest things, it's what I do every morning on the way in, actually. I open up the app and I catch a little bit of Tray show that I may have missed when I wasn't in the car yesterday. And I'll listen to Tray's podcast. It's the podcast regularly on the app. You can listen to us live on the app. Our sister station wing news has got headlines on the app. We put Rob's personal cell phone number on the app before we came in today.
Is that why I get like 30 calls a day? Absolutely. I did it. I did it for Roger. Roger asked me to do it. So Roger said put it up. Thanks, Roger. You got to keep you on your toes. Maybe we should get yard signs. Daybreak with Jason Jay Jones. Right, right. Hear what's really going on. Daybreak. I like that. To answer these politicians. Want to know which sign matters? Tune in today. Yeah. Can we get in trouble? Can we do that? I'll bet you people would be like, I want one. I'll take a day break sign. I'll put that in my yard. Right. Want to know which one of these signs matters? Tune in this morning at 6 a.m. I'll tell you which one of these signs matter. Not a nan one of them. That's right. Yeah. It's getting really heated up now. Like it's really starting to pick up. You're seeing people break up signs. You saw the one woman filing a lawsuit against Byron Donalds's because he's 50 points of... 50 points ahead. You're seeing more candidates come out to speak out against other candidates. And it's going to get juicy here in the next few weeks. As we are, what are we five weeks away? Five weeks away from the primary. Five weeks. Can you believe it? In five weeks, we will know which Republicans we're rooting for and which Democrats we are rooting against. That'll be fun. We'll go break some time.
