House Speaker Julie McCluskey says she's studying what the ramifications of holding utilities liable for wildfires could have for customers. That ties to her ongoing work related to insurance. How do we bring down property insurance so that people can live where they can live somewhere? where they can also afford. In addition, Colorado Democrats are pointing to education, health care, and affordability in the upcoming second session of the 75th General Assembly. Connor Shreve, K-O-A. State lawmakers may have to come up with more money for child care with the threat of a federal funding freeze for child care dollars in Colorado. If the freeze goes back on, daycare centers at families could be out of money. It is. unfathomable that we're in this situation and we all need to speak up. Congresswoman Brittany Pedersen let a call featuring single mother, Robbie Bamash, who would quit her job if she lost assistance to enroll her son in daycare. I won't go on Facebook or any of the other social media places and have a stranger watch my son. The Trump administration says Colorado is one of the blue states allowing widespread fraud and is demanding documentation justifying the spending. Rob Dawson, K-O-WA news. President Trump says he is set to cut all. All federal funding to sanctuary cities starting February 1st, saying they protect criminals at the expense of American citizens. The Justice Department has identified 12 sanctuary states, which include Colorado. The Summit County Sheriff's Office is in a budget crunch right now, forced to eliminate 13 positions. The reduced funding also limits deputy training and equipment. The Sheriff's Office insists no frontline detention deputies or patrol deputies have been laid off. Aurora police looking for a truck driver who sped off after crashing into the RTD A-line truck yesterday at Sable Boulevard and East Smith Road. Most people on board the train weren't quite sure what happened at first. I just was wondering why the train was stopped. I don't think anybody on the train felt it. Probably just, honestly, there's a huge train. It's like you can't really feel that much.

Only one person reported minor injuries and was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The train stopped for a few hours and had minor damage, but it did not derail. Enrollment in Colorado public schools down slightly this year, that according to the state's October student count that used to determine state funding. There are about 871,000 students enrolled in pre-K through 12th grade in the state, a decrease of 10,000 students from last year. But we are seeing an uptick in graduation rates. And dropout rates are down. The latest data from the State Department of Education for the last school year shows Colorado's four-year graduation rate. above 85%, the highest in more than 10 years. The dropout rate declined by 0.3% to 1.5%, the lowest in 10 years. But education officials warn persistent gaps remain across race and ethnicity and specific student groups. Brenda Stewart, K-O-A news. The state's vet's office searching for horses that may have been infected with a rare EIS virus after a positive equine test in Adams County last week. But they say there's no risk to the hundreds of horses in Denver right now taking part in the National Western Stock Show. State veterinarian, Dr. Maggie Baldwin, says the state coordinates with the stock show. A lot of that is going to be on entry requirements for animals coming into stock shows. She says the recent EIS cases serve as a reminder to horse owners to get the required animal tests for their horses. New clashes between protesters and federal agents in Minnesota over the immigration crackdown. Now several federal prosecutors in Minneapolis are stepping down. At least six federal prosecutors have resigned over how the case is being handled by the government focusing on investigating Renee Good and her ties to protest groups. The Trump administration claiming she was a domestic terrorist, state and local officials. Officials outraged saying the FBI is not sharing evidence. That's ABC's line of Mouye's, Minnesota and the Twin Cities have filed lawsuits claiming ICE agents were told to quote, push the envelope. President Trump says he's weighing the options for U.S. response to the deadly protests in Iran. More than 2,500 protesters have been killed so far as the regime continues its violent crackdown, a nationwide demonstration. One death is too much, but I hear much lower numbers and then I hear much higher numbers, but I say save their names because they'll pay a very big price. As anti-regime protests spread, the Iranian government is blocking the Internet. Many security forces have been given shoot to kill orders. Actor and director Timothy Busfield has turned himself into authorities in New Mexico after prosecutors accused him of sexually assaulting two boys on a film set. The U.S. Marshals actually began a search in the cat skills of New York State. That's where he lives with his wife, Melissa Gilbert, who's also a famous actress. What he says is that he learned about these charges on Friday. He says he had to hire a lawyer and then he drove 2,000 miles across the country to turn himself in. That's ABC's Trevor Alts. Busfield maintains his innocence. Actor Cuther Sutherland has been arrested, accused of assaulting a rideshare driver in Los Angeles. Police say it happened just after midnight, Monday morning at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue near Hollywood Hills. The star of the TV series 24 was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats and was released after posting a $50,000 bond. He's due in court on February 2nd. Yeah, the president is slamming Fed chair Jerome Powell after a DOJ probe into renovations by the central bank. I think I could have done that job. I could have fixed them up for $25 million. He's into billions and billions of dollars. In an interview with CBS News, Trump says he felt Jerome Powell wasn't the man for the role. And it looks like they won't open for a long time. And he's either corrupt or incompetent. The central bank buildings have not been renovated since 1950. with the cost rising over two to over two billion dollars since renovations began in 2022. The Fed has cited changes to building designs and rising material costs. Renovations are projected to be done next year. President Trump says his administration is making America affordable again while speaking to the Detroit Economic Club in Michigan. Trump said the future is bright. The head of Iran's judiciary has indicated that there will be fast trials and executions for protesters being detained. In a truth social post, President Trump told Iranians that help is on the way and to keep protesting, more than 10,000 people have reportedly been arrested since the unrest started. Members of the Aurora City Council are exploring the idea of creating a civilian oversight group for the Aurora Police Department. Council members Giannea Horton and Amy Susie Wiles held a listening session yesterday to talk about creating an independent oversight group. However, specifics on how it would be structured will not be discussed until January 29th. Pueblo police say a suspicious package delivered to Pueblo Fire Station 1 on January 13th was a pipe bomb. Firefighters discovered the device outside of the station near 7th Street and Greenwood Street. It never detonated. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage as they continue searching for the person responsible. An auto worker at a Michigan Ford plant suspended for heckling President Trump. The president was touring Ford's River Rouge complex in Dearborn when 40-year-old T.J. Sebula yelled out that Trump was a pedophile protector. A viral video of the incident shows Trump extending his middle finger after hearing the comment. Cebula says he has since been suspended from his job because of the outburst, but that he has no regrets. The White House says Trump's gesture was appropriate and called Sebula a lunatic. I'm Mark Mayfield. And Scott Adams, author and cartoonists of the Dilbert comic strip, has died at the age of 68. Adams was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in May. The comic strip centered around Dilbert, an engineer in his white collar office. However, back in 2023, many newspapers said they would stop running the comic strip due to racist comments made by Adams. To be honest, I'm ready to rock and roll, ready to continue to do what I do best, and that's protect the people that I need to protect and get out in, you know, the running lanes and create holes and block my butt off. So I'm excited to be able to do that coming up here on Saturday. First off, we got home field advantage. That's the most important thing. And then playing here, it's hard when you're coming, especially from the East Coast and, you know, a quick turnaround. And then obviously, you know, just up-tempo. try to run the ball as much as you can, sustain the run, sustain our drives, and continue to play up temple to keep them on the field. As long as we keep them on the field and keep number 17 off the field, we're going to give ourselves the best chance to win. I like what your quarterback, Bonick, said, talking about starting fast. You know, for you guys, as you've experienced a whole season of football now, what does that mean to you? We've got to start fast. Obviously, we got to put... points on the scoreboard. You know, we can't just go in the red zone and kick field goals. You know, field goes, you know, in the playoffs. I mean, yeah, I mean, they can win games at the very end, but they're not going to, you know, win games, especially the big games against, you know, the best. And, you know, when you want to be the best, you got to take down the best. And that's our whole model this week. And we got to sustain our drives. I mean, that's the most important thing. Make sure that we're, you know, we're not third in 10. We're third in five or third and two. And we're getting those first standards, we're moving those changes, and we're keeping that defense on the field and making them suck win. I mean, really, that's our ultimate goal is, you know, go on those long drives and put up points and wear them out. And when we get in the fourth quarter, we know exactly where we want them. And that's our ultimate goal is to try to get them in the fourth quarter, run as many places we can in the first half, get as many points as we possible, you know, punch it in it, and then obviously wear them out in the fourth quarter. Garrett, last, I mean, you guys play these guys last year in Buffalo turns into a game that the bills got control of, and they went at 31 to 7. Is there anything or are there things, even though it's a different year, that you can take from that game in Buffalo? Some of the guys are the same. I don't know about schematics, but are there a couple of things, if any, that you can take from that experience and utilize to your benefit on Saturday? One of the things is we're not scared. You know what I mean? Like we just taste the playoffs last year. I mean, be honest, we had to win against a bunch of, you know, second string, third string, fourth string guys that the chiefs had to even, you know, cleanse the seventh seed. And then we went out to Buffalo and got our butts kicked, to be honest with you. You know, scored that first touchdown. Everything fell good. And then everything fell apart. You know, we know what our goal was, and that was to get home fielded band. That was to get the number one seat, when our division got the number one C, that's what we did. And I think it just speaks volume of the type of players that we have in this building, be able to go out and do the things that we love to do. And, you know, obviously, you know, sustaining drives, controlling the ball and doing all those things. you know, bills, they're a different team. Obviously, they have the same offensive playmakers. They have one of the best quarterbacks in football. Everyone knows that, what he's capable of doing. They just played a very physical game in Jacksonville, you know, and they're coming against another physical team of where we are. We're a very physical team, and we're going to punch you in the mouth and wear you out. I mean, that's our ultimate goal. And so this team's different. You know, they're not as big and strong like they were last year up front. You know, obviously they lost some guys in free agency.

and things of that. And, you know, we got to take advantage of those opportunities when we can, when we can expose them. And obviously, there's holes in their defense that we can attack. Colorado Democrats. are laser focused on this session to pass legislation that will drive down costs, especially for housing, health care, energy bills, and child care. House Majority Leader Monica Duran also pledging to pass a balanced budget this year, but Senate President James Coleman says it'll be tough considering who's in the White House. We define what we do. with information based off of what's best for the people to state of Colorado. We did work with fear that there would be federal backlash. And in the end, regardless of what we did, we still see there's federal backlash. State Republicans are planning to lay out their agenda later this morning as the opening session will get underway at 9 o'clock. President Trump threatening to cut off all federal funding to Colorado and any so-called sanctuary state that tries to block his immigration enforcement policies. They do everything possible to protect criminals at the expense of American citizens. This comes as the anti-ice demonstrations continue in Minneapolis over the death of Renee Good, federal prosecutors in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis, I resigned over an investigation launched into Goods Partner. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser says he's creating an online portal where you can report alleged misconduct by ICE agents. Wiser calls the conduct of some ICE agents outrageous using the recent deadly shooting in Minnesota as an example. He says there needs to be a way to protect the people of Colorado. So he'll launch the portal on his government website next week. Brenda Stewart, K-O-A news. Issues continue to pile up for drivers hoping to get reimbursed for the damage created by contaminated. fuel. Jennifer Coggins says a third party administrator handling Kink Supers claims that the offers to cover her insurance deductible. But the company Sedwick said that by accepting the $500, she would have to sign a waiver, releasing them from any future claims. I take that money and that's a risk that my car might never be the same or might have issues further down the line that are more expensive. And I'm not sure if it's worth it just for a $500 reimbursement. Other drivers also say the offers don't fully cover their losses and their insurance would likely not pay those costs up front. The Adams County Sheriff's Office launching a new human trafficking unit targeting prostitution, exploitation, and human trafficking across the county. Here's division chief, Alex Condos. It's a form of modern day slavery, and it exploits vulnerable individuals for labor, for sex, and other illegal activities. He says two detectives will be assigned full-time to the new human trafficking unit. The team will focus on unincorporated areas of Adams County, including Aurora, Brighton, and Commerce City. The CBI has identified three more bodies found improperly stored at the Davis mortuary in Pueblo. That brings the total of individuals identified from six to nine. The latest three are individuals who died between the years of 2010 and 2012. The CBI saying 15 more bodies remain unidentified. They're currently undergoing forensic genetic genealogy with the help of a Colorado-based tech company who's helping identify everyone free of charge. Now the investigation continues for multiple containers.

Health officials say they've recorded 124 new measles cases in the state's outbreak just since last Friday. And health officials say they are seeing a rapid escalation. In just the past week, they saw an increase of 223 confirmed cases. Measles is considered one of the most contagious diseases in the world. Health officials continue to urge people to get vaccinated. At least they haven't told us that, but boy, it is slowing traffic quite a bit. It's southbound only. They're going to detour you on to ICE. 70, 60 to go over to Pecos or maybe Sheridan to work around this. So try to avoid it if you can. Northbound will be affected, but at least you can get through. He didn't really give a lot of insight as to how he thought they were going to balance that budget. He just talked about things he didn't want to cut.
