12 segmentsDemocrat incumbent Jon Ossoff is facing a challenge from Republican Congressman Mike Collins. Susan Collins emerged from a crowded Republican primary after winning the endorsement of President Trump. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News. More for the campaign trail now is Fox News Radio, excuse me, Fox News National Campaign Reporter, based here in the ground at state. Paul Steinheuser joins us on the HRC, your neighbor credit union guest on. Good morning, Steining. Good morning. Mike Collins is going to need all the help he can get. He's down big time when it comes to fundraising to Jon Ossoff, who was able to sit back and just put a massive amount of money together. And he's also down in the mid single digits in the polls. But let's move our attention to the main Senate race because we had some major developments over the weekend. It looks like, you know, they're having that convention, Chris. This upcoming Saturday in Bangor, Maine, this is the Maine Democratic Party. This will be the 601 delegates and they'll decide who the nominee is, who's going to replace Graham Platner to take on Susan Collins and that other crucial Senate race. But it looks like it's over because Troy Jackson, the former Maine state Senate president, had an amazing organizing weekend. And basically, 500 delegates were chosen by the 16 counties over the weekend. And the vast majority of those delegates are along with Jackson and two of his top rivals, Ralph Shaw and Shana Bellows, both dropped out of the race as did a couple of other candidates. So he's effectively the nominee now. They'll make an official next Saturday in Bangor, Maine. But it sure appears that way. If you're not familiar with Troy Jackson and most mayors probably aren't. He's a longer from way up in the northern part of the state, Alighash, Maine. Used to be a conservative Republican, but changed his registration to Democrat about 20 years ago. And he was an ally of Graham Platner. He was backed by Bernie Sanders when he ran for governor this year. He was unsuccessful there. And he is definitely considered the most kind of the most progressive, most populous person, you know, gunning for to replace Graham Platner. The question is, and I think this will be for most Mainers and folks across the country, does he have any baggage? We don't know yet. That's a great question. That's a great question. I think we know enough about him. He doesn't appear to have the baggage the Graham Platner had when it comes to. So many areas. We don't think he's got a tattoo and not see a simple tattoo. But, but again, there's going to be a lot of reporting about just who Troy Jackson is going forward. I think that's going to be key, right? Because if he ends up having some significant flaws or detrimental characteristics as well, that could be very problematic, obviously, given this needs to be kind of a clean handoff from Graham Platner, who is maligned with significant issues, but also attributes as well, which allowed for him to win the primary.
The person has to be, and in this case, Troy Jackson, pretty much a mirror image when it comes to the policy issues and the populism, but can't really have any significant baggage or this could head south for the Democrats in Maine, correct? Absolutely. But one of the reasons that he was so successful this past weekend in organizing and getting all those delegates on his side was, you know, the Graham Platner supporters who, he made the case that he was basically Graham Platner when it comes to policy. And him and Graham Platner kind of lined up on so many things when it comes to key issues. And he was able to get that movement behind him. And that was one of the key reasons why he was able to grab all these delegates. Now, these delegates are not obligated to vote for him next Saturday, but with all his major rivals dropping out of the race, yeah, he's effectively the nominee now.
