31 segmentsSenator Tommy Tuberville joins us now to talk about a number of different things. Coach, welcome in. Thanks for being here. Good morning, J.T. How's it going? Pretty good. How's Crazyville? Getting crazier every day. It's just, you know, it's amazing sometimes when. When the other side, and you hate to say the other side of our country, but the other side, which we are so divided now, thinks that they're winning, thinks that, you know, by stopping Donald Trump from, or trying to stop Donald Trump from doing anything to help the American people, they think they're winning. And so that's the problem we have up here. There's no sense of reality. There's no leaning and say, whatever we've got to do, let's up the American taxpayer. It is all a divided game right now. and it's not working. Well, the SAVE Act was a key sticking point, and the government shut down. You know, the Democrats don't think it's necessary to have an ID to vote or be a U.S. citizen. So Chuck Schumer and the rest of them said, nah, we're not going to go along with it and didn't budge. So shut the government down, sure. And then he says the Republicans don't, you know, care about the people. Chuck, you just shut the government down because of what you're not agreeing to do here and where you have to have an ID to pick up tickets to go to Atlanta Braves game. So picking up a... ID? I mean, and to say it's racist, I've talked to black people about this, that comment that they make all the time, and they said that's the most offensive thing in the world. I've got a driver's license. Every black person I know has a driver's license. You know, there's ways to get ID. So where are we on the shutdown? I mean, it looks like the Republicans have decided to kind of roll over a little bit now, just kind of get things back open again. And I mean, so where do we stand on this? Because the recess is right in front of us. Yeah, well, we've got to do something for the American people. These long lines, everything going on, defunding are basically our national law enforcement with Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA, all that. It's absolute nonsense. But the Democrats are looking for teammates. Donald Trump got 77 million votes. We got a lot of African-American vote. Got a lot of union vote. They lost a lot of their base. So now their base now is the crazies or they're looking for illegal aliens. And that's the only way they can win. And so they've got to have those 25, 30 million of them to vote for them. They're going to work to get them out. They don't have an ID. Most of them don't. Now, some of them have fake IDs that Biden gave out. At the end of the day, they're just looking for players. They're looking for players to join their team, and they're going to hold out. And they know they're not going to get the true American taxpayer across this country to side with them. So they're going after the weirdos, the communists, the socialists, and the illegals. Well, 100%, but inside the Beltway, what is happening at the Capitol with the process and all this? John Thune seems to be, you know, messing things up, trying to, you know, get everything going in one direction, but then all of a sudden, you know, it falls apart for him. He's not sticking to his guns on a lot of things people are saying. And then you've got John Fetterman from the Democratic side of things coming over and going, look, we've got to get this government, you know, shut down over with here. But so what's the key sticking point right now as to what needs to be done? You know, because...
We agree to do something for Chuck Schumer and next thing you know, well, okay, well, I'm going to move the goalpost now. I need something else. Where are we in this political process? What needs to happen next in the chess game? Well, first of all, you brought up a very important point when John Fetterman is the sense of the Democratic Party. We got problems. I like John. He's had problems, you know, health problems since he's been here. But he's a good guy. He speaks his mind. But you have a lot of them that's just going to side with the other side. But the process right now is Democrats, they've got their team. We're trying to find our team on the Republican side. And John Toon is trying to juggle the rhinos. and all of us that really want to help the American people. And at the end of the day, the only reasonable way to work this out is bust the filibuster, is say, listen, you know, we've gone long enough with this. Democrats are never going to go with us. We're never going to fund DHS in the next 100 years if we don't do something. So now at the time say, enough's enough, we can bust the filibuster. go to 51 boats, and then we'll have to beg to three of the rhinos to go with us. I mean, that's the problem. It's not a given that when we do that, number one, we can get it to pass with 51 votes and then get them to vote for it. It's just, I mean, John Thune has got a tough, tough job. He wanted it. He got it. And I don't see anything working out. I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel right now unless we try to make something. work with 51 votes because we can't get 60. It is impossible with these lunatics. Well, then we've got to do that, and you're right. It's not the Democrats so much at that point. It is people in our own party that are kind of putting hurdles and blockades up in front of this whole thing. We need to coalesce as a Republican Party when it comes to the rubber hitting the road in this. So, you know, for them to hold out and still saying, well, you know, it's the Republicans got to take some of the blame for this as well. They're not getting it done. Yeah, the only chance we got here without busing the pillowbuster, do reconciliation. We've got to figure a way through that jungle. Another problem with John Thune and our leadership. cause was when we took over majority, you get to pick your parliamentarian and all that. Well, we kept the same people. We kept the same people that have not, that lean the other way. And so we'll have to fight through the parliamentarian of making sure when we do everything, which are called the bird baths, which everything that goes in that reconciliation, that the parliamentary can ever say, yeah, can stay or no, it's got to go out. And that's worrisome. But I think with everything going on right now with the long TSA lines, and you've got these idiots from the left going, Hakeem Jeffries, Broomenthal, Chris Murphy, Senator saying, oh, ICE is going to start shooting and killing people in the airports. I mean, you know they've lost it. They're grasping for straws. But it just makes you sick in his stomach what, you know, we have done for 250 years.
This group is trying to bring it to its knees in just a matter of weeks. I mean, look, I get everybody wants to go home and have Easter with their families. That's fine. Go for the weekend. But they've got to get back on Monday. They can't take a two-week recess with this government shutdown. No, he's exactly right. We can't get anything done on the weekend anyway. That's right. And I propose that. Hey, let's go on a weekend. Come back on Monday. There's no reason to go home. We can get our work done. We can show the American people where we stand. But if you go home. And you go home for two weeks, you're not trying. Yeah. And, you know, it's not against the rules to work, you know, overtime. And I did that for 35 years of working seven days a week. That doesn't bother me. But let's come up here and show the American people that at least we're trying. My God, if we go home, it'd be a disaster for everybody. The American people are frustrated on both sides about this whole thing. It's really coming to a head, that's for sure. Hopefully, this government shutdown will be over sooner than later. By the way, quickly, Coach, who are these rhinos that seem to always go the other direction, especially on this current situation? How many are there? Do you know who they are? I mean, I'm sure you do, but do you have the names right there handy? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I got them. I've dealt with them for five, six years. So is President Trump and the rest of our group. I think most people know who they are. But there's a half a dozen that we've got to fight every day just because some of them, you know, they've got their reasons. But the reasons is I always bring up does not coincide with the people that elect them in their states because they're conservative Republican states. But they. They run their own agenda, and that's just unfortunate up here. I vote for people Alabama, you know, and that's what you should do. Well, I have Hannah to send me those names because I've got to start getting these folks called out. This is just crazy. But all right, quickly, NIL. You've introduced something here, and I love the idea. You know, you get to transfer once, but let's talk about the NIL and portal. I'm good with guys getting paid, but, you know, the NFL has got more control on these players than college football does. So where are you? on the NIL part of it and also the transfer? Well, I'm simply, you know, I've been, you well know, I've been working on six years and it's a disaster and it's getting worse. It's not getting better. I've talked to the President Trump. As a matter of fact, I went to Delaware with him other day and on the Air Force One. We talked about it. And I'm putting out a bill today, a student athlete act, put academics back into this because there's none as we speak. So basically it's two things. When you start your clock, five, you've got five years to play five years. That's it. No waivers, no excuses. You know, you can't do it. I mean, if you, you know, you get past that five years, you're done. Then the other one is you get transfer one time. You transfer that one time. You can transfer again, but if you do, you go back to the old rule. You got to set a year after you transfer, and that's not going to work. This would solve 80% of the problems. You're still going to have some problems, but we've got to get back. To taking high school kids right now, people are taking all transfers, taking very few high school kids. It's eliminating women's sports, Olympic sports. It is a disaster. If you had a President Trump had a roundtable the other day, I was tired of the photo ops, but you had foxes in the henhouse. They're worried about more money for conferences and all. Hey, let's go back to work and educate these kids and have good football and athletic programs.
Get fans back involved. Fans in college sports. are the thing that make it work. And they're running them. They're running them out of the business. Yeah. And it's going to be a sad day when that happens. Well, I was talking to Michael about it. And then he said, Dad, listen, I said, how often can they transfer? He says, they can pretty much go anytime they want to these days. I said, that's insane. I don't know how you guys recruit. I don't know how you guys, unless you got a checkbook standing right there. And it's getting a little bidding warrant. Well, I'll pay you $700,000. All right, I'll come play for you. I mean, it's insane. It's insane. All right, quickly, Kenneth Peters has filed a lot. lawsuit against you. A couple of attorneys I talked to, including Brian Taylor, who's been on Governor Kay Ivey's legal team and also handled a case similar on a residency issue with John Wall and one for John. But another attorney as well I talked to said this thing ain't going anywhere with trying to come after coach on his residency. He's got a home in Florida. Sure he does. He's got a place in Alabama as well. So your thoughts on that lawsuit. And D.C. by the way. So at the end of the day, I would not have done this had I not been eligible, surely to God, people. And even this guy would recognize the fact, why would I ever try to do this if I wasn't qualified? I mean, I've got all the documentation. So that's no worry of me whatsoever. And most of this is pushed by dirty money from outside the state. And that's fine. I mean, they're not going to make any headway. So I'm looking forward to. Being the governor this time next year and helping our state and working with President Trump to continue to bring things like what we brought last week, building submarines and muscle shows. You've got to be kidding me. We pulled that off. We worked on it for a year, 2,000 jobs. What a coup that was. Absolutely. And we've got to keep Sharia law out of the state, too. Oh, my God. And let me say something about Iran. Folks, Iran is a mess. It had to be done. It's going to be old with. We're not going to put truth on the ground unless we kind of guard something or whatever, not to fight. But President Trump is doing exactly what he needed to do. We do not need to continue to fight these terrorists all over the world. Put Iran in her place. Now we've got more allies in the Gulf because they have run all their neighbors off. He has won the war. Now we've got to win the peace. We've got to get peace back in that area. But Israel continues every day to kill their leaders. I'd hate to be a leader over there right now because they've got a target on their back. But they are evil people and they have to be stopped. 100%. Senator Tommy Tuverill. Coach, thank you so much. Always good to catch up with you. All right, JT. Thank you.
