It's Tuesday, September 9, 2025, sunny skies, high 76 degrees, low 55. It's primary election day in Charlotte. City Council candidates on both sides of the aisle will be decided today. And as we've established, if you don't turn out and vote now, don't try to complain later. Elections have consequences even in the primaries. And these are the agencies closest to you. There may only be a few races on the ballot. City Council in your district. City Council at large, and also in the mayoral primary. So get out there and vote. I'll be at the polls working there today. We start at 5.45 a.m. Atrium and Novant health systems hold a lock on the big health care systems in the Charlotte area. You probably know this if you've lived here. But Michelle Crouch at the Charlotte Ledger reports there's a third player entering this marketplace. Duke Healthcare is already in Morrisville in the Lake Norman area and has plans to expand into Charlotte, the ledger along with the NC Health News, its partner, quote, experts as saying a third choice in Charlotte could give patients more options and possibly accent on possibly lower prices. Our home county of Mecklenburg has called a two-hour meeting tomorrow with its partners to talk strategy for addressing sharp cuts in food and medical services as part of the federal budget demanded by the president and passed by the Congress. Now the locals have to pick up the pieces. They're meeting with affected agencies tomorrow morning from 9 to 11 at the government center. FBI director Kash Patel is invested in Charlotte-based Krispy Kreme, The Assembly. The statewide news organization reports Kash Patel bought $50,000 of stock in May. In June, the FBI announced it was launching an investigation into cyber attacks against the company. Kash Patel says no connection, no conflict of interest here. Nothing to see here, folks. Just business as usual. In today's Washington, move along. Local attorney Russell Robinson II, who built the powerhouse law firm Robinson Bradshaw in 1960, died last week after a short illness. The Charlotte Ledger reports Robinson devoted 53 years of his life.
to the law firm and literally wrote the book on North Carolina corporate law. It's called Robinson on North Carolina Corporation Law. Russell and his wife Sally met in kindergarten. Their 72nd wedding anniversary was September 4th. He passed away on the 5th. Russell Robinson the 2nd was 93. School buses, watch out for them. State officials are working to make sure you understand the traffic laws around the school buses since school is back in session. WFA reports there were more than 1,400 school bus crashes in North Carolina last year. Half of those happened between January and June of this year. It's not complicated. School buses stop a lot, and when they do, most of the time, you cannot pass a stopped school bus, especially when the red stop sign is extended and the red lights are flashing. On two-lane roads, both directions. All lanes must stop. On two-lane roads with the turn lane, again, everybody stop. On four-lane roads with a median... Only the traffic traveling in the same direction as the school bus has to stop. The penalty for passing a stopped school bus is a $500 fine and five points on your license. The University of Michigan head football coach, Sharon Moore, is suspended for the Wolverine's next two games against Central Michigan and Nebraska, a self-implemented punishment for Moore's involvement in a sign-stealing scandal from a couple of seasons ago.
