Carolina car trouble parking and handicapped spots reckless driving. WRL investigates the latest concerns regarding the UNC football players behind the wheel. Sunny skies mean a beautiful afternoon, but our range chances aren't quite over. I'll let you know when we can see some showers through the weekend. Canvas cut. Wake County schools suspend access to the learning system after a global data breach. WRL investigates how this could impact your students grading as well as end of year exams. We have gorgeous weather in our forecast this afternoon, but expect a few showers this weekend. Good afternoon. I'm Laura Levine. And I'm Chris Levin. Thanks so much for joining us. We actually want to go ahead and start with meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner for your weekend weather forecast. Elizabeth, I'm sure people want to know if this rain is going to affect Mother's Day plans or even graduation celebrations. And certainly depending on the time it's possible, but the amount of rain that we end up seeing this weekend is going to be very light. We take a live look at apex and you can see how gorgeous it is right now. Plenty of sunshine out there. temperature. Our wind has been out of the northwest and that's keeping our temperatures cool behind yesterday's front. Our highs will climb into the low 70s this afternoon and then this evening it's Friday. Maybe you're going to be out and about. We'll drop down into the low 60s pretty quickly. Here's future cast for tomorrow. We have graduation ceremonies and it's just a big weekend for a lot of folks. This is 8 a.m. and notice a little sprinkled down in the south. This is noon Saturday and potentially in the afternoon. We'll have a little shower that lifts across the area. It doesn't look like it would have major effects. Certainly, most of us won't even see it, and it won't really add up in the rain gauges for any helpful rain like we saw yesterday. Sunday, it's possible. Best chance of rain is likely to be Sunday night and into Monday, but it looks like we might have some showers late in the day. We'll walk through Futurecast for Sunday coming up. Elizabeth, thank you. Speeding, reckless driving, and now complaints about parking, including in handicapped spots. A new WRL investigation into UNC's football players raises concerns about actions off the field. Well, and this is something WRL sports is Pat Welter has been digging into this. And Pat, we have seen the speeding trouble before, yes, but now we are learning about months of parking complaints. Yeah, Chris, this dates back to reporting. We did since last season. UNC staffers tell us they've spent months taking photos of cars and handicapped parking spaces. They have reason to believe these cars belong to UNC football players. Now, they've shared their photos and email correspondence with us, parking attendants, and UNC administrators have been emailing back and forth the last couple months about this. And this all started with the tip I got from a professor, Mark Pfeiffer, on campus, who's been... A professor there since 1992. He's always had a great relationship with UNC athletes on campus. But he told us some anecdotes and some stories that he's documented the last couple months at the Bell Tower garage. He went five feet past me, stopped, reved the engine so it shot flames out the back, went around the corner, opened his window and cursed me out.

Officials with this concerns provided photos, but says it did little to change the driving behaviors. You could read those email exchanges between Pfeer and UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham on www.com. WRO Investigates also found, just like last year, many of the teams do high-profile transfers as well as returning stars. Continue to get pulled over for speeding and reckless driving. All of those details are online right now. All right, well, thank you for digging into that for us, Pat. North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis urged Campbell Law graduates to lead with integrity during his commencement address today, and he cautioned them about the deeply divided climate they're entering. The Republican Senator recently split from parts of his own party on issues involving President Trump and the courts. Thom Tillis emphasized the need for empathy, principled leadership, and working through differences. Don't cut corners. Don't let your work go out the door if you're not confident in it. Don't let someone who is counting on you down. Thom Tillis challenged graduates to stand firm under pressure and become leaders. People can trust. The longtime lawmaker is not seeking re-election and does not plan to run for political office again. Happening now in the W Area Live Center, sticking with the graduation theme, some very exciting news of some NC State grads this morning. This was quite a surprise for the graduates of NC State's Wilson College of Textiles. During this morning's graduation, the keynote speaker Anil Kachar announced he and his wife, Maryland, will be covering all student loans taken out for the students this school year. Coach Kachar's father arrived at NC State 80 years ago to further his textile. education to help honor his memory. Gachar and his wife also established three endowments for students and faculty. This was quite the graduation gift for those students. Certainly. Thank you, Ken. Well, graduation weekend is full of excitement for families, and NC State is one of the local schools that will soon have a new class of alumni. But as WRL's Monica Casey report, she shares why families and students will also see a lot of security at graduation. It's an exciting weekend for graduates and their families, but security is top of mind at universities around our area. That is especially true at NC State this weekend after a man was arrested last month for allegedly threatening to shoot Duke Energy's CEO during his commencement speech. That speech is scheduled to happen on Saturday. 24-year-old Luke Hoover has no connection with NC State, and as a condition of his bond, he cannot go. on any NC state property. Now in response to this NC state has released a statement saying the safety of graduates, families, and the entire campus community is their top priority, adding they have a robust security plan in place. Reporting in Raleigh, Monica Casey, WRL News. NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis will give a commencement address tomorrow at NC Central. He'll speak at the ceremony for the College of Health and Sciences, the School of Business, and the School of Education. Just head to WRL.com and download the WRL News app. You can also check out our Triangle Graduation Guide. It has the info you may need for the day, including travel tips and important venue details. Well, today we are asking school districts how they plan to finish the semester. And this is happening because hackers shut down the Canvas Online Education.

platform and put millions of students and teachers data at risk. The app is typically used for managing assignments, and WRL investigates Destiny Patterson has been covering the story since we learned of that cyber attack Destiny. This app is a backup and running, but we know that not all students are affected that are here in North Carolina. Chris, just in the last 15 minutes or so, I heard from a Wake County district spokesperson. They tell me that they are still waiting on guidance and timelines on that canvas restoration. That's because here in Wake County, they disabled access to Canvas and they are still actively encouraging people to not try to access it at all if they can. In addition to that, the Department of Public Instruction, they have also took away access to Canvas's access to its sign-on portal until... they deem it's safe to do so. This time of year, though, the Canvas app is really integral to assigning final grades. I'm talking about tests, quizzes, grades, and assignments. All of that is often found inside of Canvas. We know at least some teachers have reached out to parents, letting them know that students will not be penalized for certain assignments in Canvas. And we did talk to a Wake County student about what she's seen in terms of her teachers trying to manage amongst all of this. I've heard some a couple of my teachers. They're like trying to assign other assignments on other websites. Wake County confirmed students in the district. have received this ransom note from the hackers themselves, threatening to leak information if they don't get paid. This impacts schools across the country and across our state. That includes Durham, Orange, Chapel Hill Carborough, Franklin, Cumberland counties, as well as major universities like UNC and Duke. I just also heard from UNC. They tell me that they are encouraging their teachers to download anything that they might need out of the campus app while it is still operational in case it goes back down. Of course, we're reaching out to districts and universities throughout the day to see how they're going to proceed if they do decide to not use canvas for the rest of the school year. Destiny Patterson, W. A.R. News live in Wade County. The legal team of the man accused in the White House correspondent's dinner shooting want top DOJ officials removed from the case. They argue there is a conflict of interest because they were present during the incident. Lawyers for Cole Allen specifically want U.S. Attorney for District of Columbia, Janine Piro, an acting attorney general Todd Blanche disqualified, saying there is an appearance of partiality. The team says the two may approve significant developments in the case against Allen. The motion also features a quote from FBI. I director Kash Patel in which he says this one hits a little differently. We were all there. Alan is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

Happening now on the WRA Live Center, a major setback for Democrats in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Take a look at video of that Virginia Supreme Court today, striking down the congressional redistricting maps approved by voters back in April. The maps were in attempt to counter the pro-GOP reshuffling of voting maps led by President Trump. Now, in a ruling responding to a lawsuit brought by Republicans, the court found the legislature made procedural errors in how it placed a question on the ballot. We've not heard. The last of this, of course, the November elections coming up. We look for any new developments in this case. Look for new reporting starting at 4 on WRL. Well, the future of elections in South Carolina is up for debate in the state house. The state currently has six Republican districts and one Democratic district. The new map aims to divide Democratic voters in the sixth congressional district to create seven Republican-leaning districts. Supporters of redistricting filed a bill to delay the primaries back to August 11th for those seven U.S. House seats. The Carolina Hurricanes are now just one win away from Eastern Conference finals in the Stanley Cup playoffs after beating the Philadelphia Flyers in game three of their series last night. Captain Jim Jordan Stahl scored first to give the Cains the lead, but the Flyers answered with the goal of their own in the second period to tie the game. After that, it was all Cains. They scored three unanswered goals to come away with the 4-1 win. They now lead the series three games to none and have won all seven games. They've played so far in the playoffs. They'll look to end this series. tomorrow night in Game 4 in Philadelphia. Looks like the price of celebrating Mother's Day and graduations will likely be more this year. Inflation, rising costs from the war in Iran. These are just some reasons why. Depending on where you shop, the cost of gifts like flowers is higher. Treating the family out to a meal is expected to cost nearly 4% more this year compared to last. And grocery store purchases are close to 2% higher this year. Coming up next at noon now, unpaid child support penalty. The punishment someone could face if they owe thousands of dollars and why the longstanding rule is being enforced now. Plus, shelter after disaster. We're going to show you more of this home that's even smaller than a tiny house and why the students behind this say it's a game changer for emergency shelters. And Haunted Virus crews ship saga. Where that vessel linked to positive cases is now where it's going and the effort to stop it from disembarking. The man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk is set to appear in court as two key decisions are expected. A judge in Utah will decide if Tyler Robinson's preliminary hearing should be delayed to give his lawyers more time to review DNA evidence. The judge is also expected to decide whether to allow cameras in the courtroom. Prosecutors say that would help fight public misinformation about the case. Robinson's lawyers argue media coverage of the case so far has been prejudicial. Kirk was killed while speaking at a turning point USA event in Utah last September. It looks like people who owe thousands of dollars in child support could have their passports revoked. A federal law going back to the 90s gives the State Department the authority to do this. However, it hasn't been strictly enforced. The initial threshold for enforcement was $5,000 in unpaid support, but legislators cut that in half back in 2005. The State Department says revoking passports for those who owe child support strengthens compliance with U.S. laws and supports the welfare of American kids. Well, as we head into hurricane season, one of the hardest questions isn't just how to rebuild. It's where people live while doing it. That's where a group of engineering students from Harvard and MIT come in. After a hurricane, a wildfire, or a flood, these 60 square foot structures can be shipped anywhere in minutes. This uplift micro home costs $21,000 to build. The units come with a bed, a bathroom, hot water, and a kitchen. Each is equipped with Starlink, so all the systems are powered. powered naturally. What's special about the uplift micro home is that it will be able to provide service, a dignified place to live very quickly after that disaster. The whole water system is completely internal. So it has a freshwater tank that houses 30 to 50 gallons. Then as you use your shower or you use your sink for cooking, it naturally just drains to a gray water tank. Very impressive. The units are designed to fit four or five on a flat bed, then a forklift places it where it's needed. Once it lands, it levels itself, no foundation, no construction necessary. I mean, it's astounding, and, you know, it makes me think about after Helene out in the mountains, so many people needed homes just like that. So, you know, God bless those guys for trying to make something good come from this. Weather-wise right now, it is gorgeous outside Elizabeth. Yes, it started a little cooler, but things are warming up for us. Yeah, they are. It's going to be a really pretty day. You can see outside just how gorgeous is. It is lots of people walking around there on Fayetteville Street as we take a look from our Jimmy V camera. So enjoy the afternoon while we have it. It'll be a little bit more unsettled as we get into the weekend. Our temperature right now 65 degrees. So it's pleasantly cool out there. Our winds are calm, but we will see a northwest wind as we get through the day today. Check it out rainfall. Of course, this is from yesterday, but we're still talking about it. Of course, temperatures, of course, are nice and mild. But this is a look at the rainfall that we saw yesterday. Springs both saw over an inch of rain yesterday. Garner it around an inch, Jay Clayton it around an inch, zebulin at an inch. The northern part of Wake County, as well as Durham and Chapel Hill, we're a little closer to half an inch in terms of the rainfall. So I know a lot of people are thinking today, well, we had all that rain yesterday. Now, are we out of the drought or are we closed? Do we make a dent in it? Well, the answer is no, not really. The only thing that we really see after that much rain is a slowing down of the drought. So it's not likely to continue to get worse, but we'll just hold right.

15:31

where we are. We still need 11 to 15 inches of rain in a month's time. And it looks like maybe a half an inch to an inch. And we won't see that over the weekend. Our two rounds of rain that we could see Saturday and Sunday are both likely to be very light, less than a quarter of an inch. Let's go over Saturday. Again, here's a look at future cast. Notice we cloud up pretty quickly. There are graduations on Saturday morning and Saturday evening. So we'll be watching it closely. That's 8 a.m. The rain that we see on Saturday morning is mostly going to be down in our southern counties. And at lunchtime, we're looking good. Again, late in the afternoon and evening, most of that is likely to be in our southern counties with maybe a quick sprinkle right around 4 or 5 o'clock. Now, of course, the models aren't always that good as to time it out that well. So what you really need to know about Saturday is there may be a quick little wave of some sprinkles in the morning and another one in the evening. We do have a couple of weathermakers. This one down here. We've got sort of two waves coming in. You can see the showers and storms that are developing here along the Gulf Coast and the deep. New Mexico. New Mexico prosecutors want a judge to impose sweeping changes to meta's social media apps and algorithms in an effort to protect children. This is the second phase in a wave of legal pressure surrounding social media companies. Leah Waldman details to fight for accountability now. To a certain extent, phase two could be even more consequential in our fight to hold this tech giant accountable. After a jury found in March that META violated New Mexico law by failing to warn users about the dangers of its platforms and protect children from sexual predators, State Attorney General Raul Torres is now asking a judge to decide if META's platforms, like Facebook and WhatsApp, pose a public nuisance. That's a case that involves damages to the entire community, which New Mexico is saying is in the billions of dollars. 3.7 billion. dollars to be exact, according to documents filed by META. Law professor Adam Zimmerman says this definition of public nuisance has been used before in cases that impact public health, such as tobacco, opioids, and even climate change. But he believes this case is unique. We're talking about the modern electronic superhighway and how that's regulated. New Mexico's AG is asking for a sweeping list of changes he says are related to alleged psychological harm, including limits on addictive design features, algorithm recommendation changes, and improvements to age verification. Real age verification is what allows the platform to curate a different type of experience for young people and make sure they're safer online. is expected to last three weeks.

18:24

And that was Leah Waldman reporting. META has vowed to appeal the $375 million jury verdict in the first trial. It also warned that it could eliminate service in New Mexico entirely if forced to comply with impractical mandates and multi-billion dollar remedies. Well, Apple is reportedly working on the company's first wearable device designed for the AI era. Bloomberg said Apple is developing new AirPods with built-in cameras. And we're told the cameras are not designed to take photos or videos, but instead they're kind of kind of active. like eyes for Siri. Basically, the technology will allow the user to ask the digital assistant for information and anything in front of them. Sorry, I had to check my phone, make sure my Siri did not go off just now. All right, well, looks like humans are not the only ones looking for a deeper spiritual connection. This week, a humanoid robot joined a Buddhist ordination ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea. That robot is named Gabby and made its official debut ahead of the Buddha's birthday. It's expected to serve as an honorary monk for the upcoming celebratory season. Some monks, though, who attended the ordination said that Gabby's presence made them feel like the era of robots walking alongside humanity as partners has arrived. And the robot monk is reportedly an effort to keep the age... religion relevant in the modern world. Very interesting. Interesting and scary a little bit. All right. A cruise ship affected by a hanta virus outbreak is set to arrive in the Canary Islands this weekend. The World Health Organization confirms five of the eight suspected cases are positive with patients being treated in various countries. Yeah, a lot of people paying attention to this right now. Seven passengers who left the ship earlier have returned to the U.S. They're not showing symptoms at this time. Here's NBC's Danielle Hummagen with a look at the latest. Well, here in Tenerife, this is an island that is heavily reliant on tourism. And as locals have told us, all it takes is one case of the virus and it could be a disaster for residents. Despite protests across the Canary Islands and despite opposition by local politicians, this is happening. The ship is on its way and is expected to arrive here at noon on Sunday. Now, as we speak now, there are no symptomatic passengers on board that ship, no doubt a huge relief for everybody on board. well for health officials around the world. Among the 17 Americans on that ship is a doctor who is actually there as a guest. He spoke to NBC and he told us how he had to step in to help when the virus broke out. But he also told us there are two experts from the World Health Organization to infectious disease experts from the Netherlands. So they do feel like they are now in good hands. Now of course we know that nearly 30 people disembarked on April 24th, which means that they are scattered all over the world. We know that there are Americans and now across five US states who are being monitored but are not showing any symptoms.

23:13

This morning the UK confirming it is monitoring one suspected case and Singapore monitoring two possible cases as well. Now on Sunday when this ship arrives here, Spanish officials have made it clear they do not want any contact with the public. They'll be taken straight from that boat that won't be docked here but anchored nearby, straight to the airport to a cordoned off area where they will board repatriation flights back home and in some cases. They will have to quarantine for up to 45 days. Danielle Hamamjan, NBC News, Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Raleigh Police are investigating after a person was hit by a train this morning. It happened at Oakdale Drive near Hillsborough Street just before 2.30. The W.R.E.L. breaking news tracker saw several officers at the scene. Police say the details surrounding what happened remains unclear. Happening now in the WRA Live Center, the results of a major operation by the Durham Police targeting violent crime. Here's what we've been able to find out about Operation Spring seizure that happened over the course of three days last month. It was a situation involving the Durham Police organized crime division as well as the FBI. So here's what we're told that they found. They seized more than dozens of pounds of marijuana as well as other drug paraphernalia more than $13,000. They also arrested more than... about 29 people and seized more than two dozen firearms. This was the result, police say, of concerned citizens and crime stats. Wade Avenue and Raleigh is back open after work to repair a utility pole after someone hit it. The crash happened just this morning before one near Dixie Trail. Duke Energy teams finished their work to repair that pole before seven, but it's not clear if the driver who crashed will face charges. They were also working to learn if anyone was hurt in this crash, a car into a home in Durham. Police say the crash happened just before 10 last night on University Street near Summit Street, University Drive, I should say, near Summit Street. But it's unclear what led up to that crash or whether anyone was in the home during the crash. Today is the last day to apply for Camp Ignite. This is the third year the towns of Apex, Carrie, and Worseville are coming together to inspire the next generation of female firefighters. The U.S. Department of Labor says women made up only 5% of firefighters in 2025. During the week-long camp, girls will get a hands-on experience what it's like to be a firefighter. That includes house or hose operations and ladder work to first aid and problem solving. If you are somebody that is looking to see what it's like, challenge yourself, step out of your comfort zone a little bit. I promise you you have an amazing time and you will learn skills for a lifetime. And also what's great about this, the camp is free. High School girls in North Carolina, ages 14 to 18, can apply. Registration closes today at 5 p.m.

Parental mental health is foundational to family health. A parent's mental health condition, including depression and antisocial behavior, can increase the risk for psychiatric disorders developing in childhood and adult life. Here's Gary Baumgarten with more. No matter how much love there is, it can be safe to assume that parenting isn't always a walk in the park. Challenges can be even more intense for guardians if they're not in a positive state of mind. And with May marking Mental Health Awareness Month, psychology experts say a parent's well-being can influence their children's emotional regulation. Caring for you is caring for your child, right? But even though it can be hard for caregivers to find time to focus on themselves, Dr. Kelly Elliott of the University of Denver says they should still try. Whether that's taking a few moments to take a few deep breaths to regulate our system before we interact with our kiddos so that we can respond more sensitively, that is caring for our kids. When parents put their well-being on the back burner, it can negatively impact a child's development. When parents are struggling with their mental health, we might see kids experience anxiety or mood disturbances or behavioral challenges, right? But what's really important is also on the flip side. When our caregivers are doing well, it's one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in children's lives. Besides raising awareness, psychology professionals are also encouraging parents to end the stigma about seeking help. Knowing when you need support is a superpower, right? We should be asking family and friends for help, whether that's watching kids for just a couple of moments, right? So we could go finish something up, right? Or that goes all the way to asking for some more professional help. That was Gary Baumgarden reporting. And some employers now offer mental health benefits such as paid mental health days and third party services for stress management and counseling. Coming up at 1230 now, digital therapist, a new tool. ChatGPT is rolling out to help someone dealing with mental health needs, how the company is letting a real friend step in. Happening now in the WRA Live Center, a bar that's at the center of has a history of violence. in that particular bar temporarily shut down today. We're talking about the Star Bar, and here's a look at video of the most recent deadly shooting that happened there back in March. A judge, this is as a result of a joint investigation between the Mitt Romney Police Department and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division. This action today, the judge says, is meant to address Star Bar's history of controlled substances, fights, assaults, and shots fired. Now, a hearing will be held within the next 10 days where the judge will consider if permanent restrictions are necessary if the property or if the property is fit. The current use will continue to have any new developments on this story and keep you updated here in WRA Live Center. A pretty big update.

Well, OpenAI is adding a new safety feature to help prevent others from possible self-harm. Now, listen to this. Trusted contact is an optional feature on ChatGPT that lets adults choose a person to be contacted if the user discusses self-harm with the chat bot. In the event of a potential crisis, the trusted source will be notified by email text or in-app notification to check in with the user. OpenAI says the service doesn't replace professional care or crisis services already being recommended to users. Well, the age of AI is impacting nearly every facet of life, including emergency call centers. One agency in Minnesota is rolling out a new AI-driven system to deal with non-emergency 911 calls. Leaders say this will free up human dispatchers to handle more serious situations. Eric or Erica, depending on who answers, will ask the same questions as dispatchers. Humans are training the system to handle off the actual emergencies to real people. I think I may need an ambulance. I might be having a heart attack. I'm transferring you to agent. I look at it as a force multiplier. They're able to focus more on the emergency incidents coming into the center. The communications director says the system will not replace humans. In fact, she says they're using it to keep them in their seats. The Golden Globes is laying out rules regarding artificial intelligence just days after the Academy Awards made its stance on AI pretty clear. The use of artificial intelligence will not automatically disqualify a movie or show from the Golden Globes. AI and similar technologies may be used as part of the production process, but they may not replace the core creative contributions of human talent. All submissions must include a disclosure describing any generative AI used anywhere in the production of the completed work. The Globe ceremony takes place on January 10th, 27. A lot of people want transparency when they're going to movies. Yes, definitely. Here's a look at what's ahead now. A fight on the front porch. A Florida homeowner thought her home was being burglarized, but what she found left her in shock. What wildlife officials say prompted an alligator altercation. You know, I knew it was going to be Florida when you started. Yep. And for the love of nature, Sir David Attenborough introduced people around the world to animals great and small. Yes, today, that lovely voice, he is a hundred years old, and we'll talk about how scientists are acknowledging his birthday today.

A Florida mother has a warning for neighbors. After getting quite the scare this week, she heard noises on her porch and thought someone was breaking into her home, but it was even more terrifying. As she approached the porch, she says the noise started getting louder by the second. When she looked outside, she was shocked to find two large alligators, not one, two. They were locked in a violent fight. The gators slammed into the screen enclosure, tearing through it, leaving behind twisted metal and shutted mesh. I thought somebody was breaking in because I never thought that the gators were going to enter my porch. It was scary and I just warned everybody else in the neighborhood, like watch your kids, watch the dogs because it was fast and they were powerful. As a Louisiana girly, I can tell you the Florida gators are built different. No one was hurt. Wildlife experts say this kind of behavior isn't completely unheard of even though it's alarming. Alligators tend to be more aggressive during mating season, which, by the way, is right now. All right. Well, let's go ahead and take a look outdoors. Check in with meteorologist Elizabeth Garner. Elizabeth, thank goodness. We don't have to worry about anything like that here. That's right. Down closer than the coach, yes. We don't have any of those right here. Well, you take a look at our forecast for it today. It looks absolutely beautiful, sunshine, very comfortable. Temperatures comfortably cool out there. We warm up over the weekend. Our highs will end up being back into the 80s. And we're looking at the potential for a few weekend showers. We could see that Saturday, Sunday, and then. potentially into Monday as well. We take a look at Futurecast starting here in Chapel Hill. Look at all the people out walking around. I mean, it really is an absolutely beautiful day out there and people are enjoying it. It's a busy weekend too. Of course, we have graduation ceremonies at all of, I think almost all of our universities, either today or tomorrow. So lots of family in town enjoying our pretty weather and hoping that it holds for graduation. We're going to walk through the timeline for that. 65 is our current temperature. We're looking at 73. for our high temperature this afternoon. It's 69 and Apex 68 in Holly Springs, 65 and Garner and 66 in Rollsville. Around town, we're looking at temperatures in the low to mid-70s for this afternoon. Again, lots of sunshine, so it's going to feel really nice out there. It's going to be a great day for a Durham Bulls game. 71 degrees at 6 p.m. first pitch is at 6.45 and at 8 p.m. 64. So we are looking at, of course, just a really pleasant evening for baseball. look at our next weather maker. We have a cold front that's up to the north and that cold front to the north is going to swing through. We also have this precipitation that's down to the south. These are going to come together to help to bring us some precipitation as we get into the weekend. Both days, Saturday and Sunday, it looks like it'll be fairly light. Best chance on Saturday is likely to be early part of the afternoon. We couldn't rule out a few isolated showers in the south later on. And then on Sunday, I don't think we'll see much rain, but if we see it, it's likely to be fairly. really late in the afternoon. Talk about commencements for Saturday. Both Meredith and NC State are in the morning at 9 o'clock on Saturday. Temperatures likely to be close to 60 degrees and then UNC 73 at about 7 p.m. which should be nice and dry for the most part Saturday morning and just a slim chance of a sprinkle in the evening. Mother's Day planner looking at 80 degrees Saturday and then on Sunday it looks pretty dry either day. Don't be surprised if there's a sprinkle here. but we're not likely to see any significant rain. It's going to be a warm day 84 on Sunday for Mother's Day. After that, we do have a better chance for rain late Sunday night and into the day on Monday and yet another chance with a front that comes through late Wednesday into Thursday. So we ended up with a good soaking anywhere from a half an inch to almost two inches of rain across our area yesterday. And we have more chances hoping for it maybe to all total up as another inch. And we can use all that we could get.

Every drop of rain, we need it. All right, thanks, Elizabeth. Well, Mother's Day is just days away. And have you ever noticed that when you're anxious or maybe upset, you tend to call mom first? Well, there's a good reason for that. Babies are able to hear and become familiar with their mother's voice, even in the womb. This is why the feeling is so comforting even from the start when you hear your mother's voice. The brain is wired early on to make a connection between safety and security and her voice, which can last into adulthood. That's why I call my mama several times a week. Psychologist at Cleveland Clinic says hearing your mom's voice can release a hormone called oxytocin, which can make you feel loved and connected. At the same time, it can also reduce your stress level. So when you're upset, it's best to pick up the phone and call your mom if you can't see her in person. Save a voicemail from your mother. This is something that you can pull out in moments when you're feeling stress and she is not available. You can also imagine your mother's voice if she is not around. Your brain stores the memory of her voice and turns it into an internal dialogue that can be comforting in moments that you're feeling stressed. And studies show texting does not have the same soothing effect. That's because our brain responds to the warmth and comfort of her mother's voice, not just her words. You know, earlier we asked you which phrase reminds you most of your mom? Yes, read the answers and percentages here. I'm so surprised I'm not your little friend and get much love. That was a staple in my house. Yeah, I was a little surprised about that one. Okay, mom's like, listen, you're talking to your mother. Because I said so, I think, is one I'd probably vote for for this one. Sit up straight too, yeah. All good options. All right. Well, coming up next now, cash for college.
